Directed by Joshua and Rebecca Tickell, The Revolution Generation is willing to perpetuate uncomfortable and critically important conversations about the need to amend past systems in order to make way for the future. It takes a largely ecocentric approach to understanding and reshaping all facets of contemporary society that is elevated by the moving narration of Michelle Rodriguez. The Revolution Generation is consistently entertaining and informative, featuring captivating interviews with Corbin Bleu and Shailene Woodley, who are helping lead the way for environmental conservation and equality through policy change. Thanks to this film, it is no longer concealed that everybody has a place in the future of the world – they just need to take the first step. Expand

Refreshing and New!
The Revolution Generation: How Millennials Can Save America and the World gives the audience a refreshing outlook on the youth of America. Directors Joshua Tickell and Rebecca Harrell Tickell put their heart into this film, and you can tell. Millennials have often only been seen one way. This husband-and-wife duo take a sledgehammer to those stereotypes. Through the eyes of millennials, as an audience you receive a new take on issues that we have been facing for years. Narrated by fellow millennial Michelle Rodriguez she brings a special uniqueness throughout the film. The tone of this documentary is one that will bring awareness to the masses while also giving them hope for the future when you leave. You may think you know all of the issues we face as Americans but, The Revolution Generation breathes new life into how you’ll view them. Joshua Tickell and Rebecca Harrell Tickell truly expand your thinking into how and why every so often there is a time where things reach a boiling point. A time where there is no choice but to demand change. The Revolution Generation also uses powerful voices like Shailene Woodley and Corbin Bleu to give the audience familiar faces that they trust. The Revolution Generation tackles sociocultural issues across the board with a major focus on environmental restoration. The Tickell’s direct a compelling story that in the end you’ll be asking yourself what I can do to help make a change for the future.

Those people are theThe Revolution Generation: How Millennials Can Save America and the World is a documentary that contains the discussion of vitally important topics and how their fate are all in the hands of a certain group of people. Those people are the millennial generation. Often labeled as “lazy and narcissistic,” as the documentary notes, they have been sorely misrepresented. They are the hope we need going forward as a nation. The hope that will drive change in heavily controversial subjects, that our nation has been divided between for many years. Just to name a few of such topics: student debt, the environment, and equality between genders, sexualities, and races. The documentary is narrated by Michelle Rodriguez, a millennial herself, with such a lively and passionate delivery that really allows the audience to understand every word she says more thoroughly. The notable directors, Josh Tickell and Rebecca Harrell Tickell have a repertoire of entertaining and informative documentaries. They do an excellent job shining a light on the imperative action that needs to be taken and who is taking that action. Thus, proving that these millennials are anything but “lazy and narcissistic,” because they are the people firing up a canon of change for all those around them, not just like-minded people! Expand

I went into The Revolution Generation: How Millennials Can Save America and the World anticipating a simple exposition on the youth’s contributions to various causes. While it certainly delivered on that, I greatly appreciated the detailed counter to the negative stereotypes that millennials are lazy, narcissistic ingrates. Directors Josh and Rebecca Tickell offer a new narrative about "complaining" millennials, one that praises our perseverance in the wake of a world that’s falling apart - one where our critical words are followed by productive actions. With Michelle Rodriguez’s narration and celebrity interviews (such as Corbin Bleu and Shailene Woodley), the film divulges the unique set of mental health challenges native to the millennial world, from the self-image issues instilled by social media to the anxiety of an impending climate crisis. I was particularly captivated by learning about millennial overmedication due to frequent external stressors, such as our low economic standing. However, Revolution Generation’s main point is that, despite the stress of our lives, we are at the vanguard of the fights for societal justice. The film leaves us on the hopeful note that while millennials inherited a troubled world, we are the ones actively working to heal it. Expand

Michelle Rodriguez's narration propels the film forward in a way that is as relatable as it is truthful. This is reinforced by captivating and insightful interviews with activist stars Shailene Woodley, Roza Calderon, and Corbin Bleu, who provide a refreshing portrayal of issues that are normally silenced or marginalized among today's youth generation. Furthermore, the insights provided by students and disenfranchised individuals add a chilling realism and relevance to The Revolution Generation, emphasizing the importance of addressing student debt, which is easily accessible education, and reforming the American political system to best serve the nation Although it focuses on American systems, this film does an excellent job of maintaining a global perspective on the issues it raises through fascinating revelations about the ranked choice voting system used in Australia, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. The Revolution Generation was created with the goal of inspiring our pursuit of a better world, and it has cemented itself as a preeminent source in the potential to facilitate change in the absence of barriers, making every viewer feel as if they play an important role in the future of the planet. Directors Josh and Rebecca Tickell utilize their amazing story-telling skills to encourage inspiration in the audience from aspiring activists of all ages but specifically young people. This film resonated with me in a way that few documentaries have been able to in recent years. Current celebrities like Michelle Rodriguez and Shailene Woodly are able to reach a younger audience and use their influence to speak on the issues millennials are now facing in both political and social spaces. For what seems like the first time, the audience is being provided with an explanation for the state of our current political climate without blaming any one generation as we learn about the 80-year cycle of the 4 types of generations. The Tickell's also made sure to highlight specific turning points or causes for the characteristic of a generation like growing up in war or political turmoil like millennials have. Notably, this film is incredibly accessible with its messaging utilizing visual aspects to accompany the strategic storyline of the film. For me, the most memorable notion I have taken from Revolution Generation is that young people are the leaders and minds of our future and that starts with millennials! Despite all of the misconceptions about Millenials, Revolution Generation provides a fresh and compassionate perspective around these often misunderstood individuals and the hope they provide for our future. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While activist and human rights documentaries are not an uncommon find, the Revolution Generation: How Millennials Can Save America and the World is one of the most eloquent and in-depth documentation of intersectional politics, activism, and generational psychology that I have ever seen. You will find few films that can cover the wide range of history and sociology that Joshua Tickell and Rebecca Harrell Tickell seek to, and succeed at, examining and framing in a way that both informs the audience and vindicates its subjects, being organizations seeking to fight for human rights and the millennial generation that has become the most progressive and active participants in these groups. The film begins with a series of clips and stories citing the millennial generation as “lazy,” and “entitled,” a narrative that has become as exhausting as it has been demeaning. The audience is given a rebuke to these statements, one that features an investigation into the sociology and historical events that create the personas and stereotypes of generations, identifying the economic and political turmoils that have shaped the millennial generation into what it is today. From there, the film jumps into action, exploring the world of activism and politics that millennials are attending in droves, motivated to enact direct and effective change in the corrupt and chaotic socio-political spheres that have left many hopeless. Interviews from several millennial leaders within politics and activist groups, such as Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Chase Iron Eyes, as well as celebrity activists such as Shailene Woodley and Michelle Rodriguez, who narrates the film, illustrate the masses urgently seeking improvements in the treatment of environmentalism and marginalized groups in America. There isn’t a desire to simply give this story, but to imbue it with heart and humanity, to explore the necessity for stigmas examined and understood, and voices heard and uplifted. Expand

Joshua and Rebecca Tickell have been able to really take millennial issues seriously in this grounded and informational documentary, all while adding humor and cultural relevance to the film through Michelle Rodriguez’s fun and on-beat narration and the star power of Corbin Blue, Shailene Woodley, and even Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Don’t let the good humor fool you, though. The issues tackled in this film, like Black Lives Matter, climate change, and women’s rights, are all handled with the gravity they deserve, and with the explicit truth that millennials have played an instrumental part in these movements over the last twenty years. The way that this film dismisses the common stereotypes of millennials in the first few minutes is already enough to make you crack a smile, but what keeps your eyes really glued to the screen is the clear dedication to representing these complex issues from a millennial perspective, all while carrying a clear message of hope from beginning to end. They touch on the history of generations, and how we all don’t stand as alone as we think we do. Each generation falls into an archetype based on a historical cycle that repeats itself about every 80 years. This film specifically takes a deep dive into the background of what shaped the baby boomer and gen x generations, and how the turning that we have come into presents a crisis that millennials are destined to now become the “heroes” for. This film is so beautifully nostalgic in the sense that we are shown a lot of old home videos that highlight the childhood days of these three generations. This is then contrasted to the present we now face, where millennials feel betrayed by their reality of insurmountable student loan debt, stagnant wages with rising inflation, and social issues at every turn. Making this shift is what really shapes and defines this movie and compels the audience to beg the question, how do we cope? The answer is presented through powerful leaders and influential people like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Tulsi Gabbard, Shailene Woodley, Corbin Bleu, Chase Iron Eyes, Roza Calderon, Christin “Cici” Battle, and many more. These living examples embody what it means to be a millennial, to be someone who is destined to save the future. This film is deeply reflective and moving, yet inspirational and entertaining in the same breath. It is a wonderful documentary that is sure to invigorate the mind of any audience that watches it.
