The attempt to differentiate itself lies in the title; The power and the lack of it.
And of course in the 70s that scale was not tilted towards women.

The thing here is that this story's attempt has the disadvantage of not choosing a concise path in terms of that theme, when it is seasoned with a narrative of suspense and horror.

When I say this it's because The Power is a film that poses a tale of abuse, but before that unfolds, its chooses to develop a mystery with huge dark corridors and noises that you cannot locate.
Something seems to be terrifying and taking over the lead character, but it turns out that what it's actually trying to do is to communicate.

The problem here is that none of that generates anything interesting in terms of excitement or scares.
The film actually gets help from the dark atmosphere that permeates over the events in most of its duration, but neither the director nor the protagonist manages to sell the situations in a genuine way, much less cohesive, while its climax and resolution felt rushed and anticlimactic.
