Cain, I decided to see this film, which became particularly famous not so much for its quality or for the participation of several renowned actors, but because it is much spicier than usual in a 80s movie... in fact, this movie has several sex scenes, some of them quite hot. However, and trusting what I've been reading about the original book, it actually includes more stronger and adult material, so the film has limited itself to doing it justice, and bringing to the screen what the book already had in its pages. Nothing against it! Just be aware, and get the kids out of the room!

I won't waste much time summarizing the script: suffice it to say that it generally maintains the narrative lines that everyone who has seen the oldest film already knows: the forbidden love affair between young Cora and Frank, the way they both conspire, and end up murdering her husband, the court battle to clarify what happened, the constant fights between them... the differences are punctual, but the story is very good, appealing and intriguing, even if we already know it. There's nothing original... we've seen a lot of movies about marital infidelity that ends badly, but in my opinion that doesn't take away from the film's merit since, even so, it managed to present us with a story that is worth it.

The cast has various well-known names: Jack Nicholson was living a very good phase in his professional career, he had just won an Oscar for Best Actor and made one of the best performances of his life (with the film "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest") and was a safe bet for the production. He's actually pretty good in the role, even though I look at the actor and can't see the charisma and physical beauty for the role of a stout heartthrob, somewhat rough but alluring. Next to him is the attractive Jessica Lange, who is also at a very good stage of her career. With this film, she reaches the heights of stardom and gives us a work full of maturity and sprinkled with freshness. She knows how to be strong, intense and sweet without appearing naive (in fact, the character is anything but innocent), and that's something that goes well here. John Colicos plays an important and sympathetic role in the role of the cheated husband, but he, like Angelica Houston, is not here to shine for himself.

Technically, the film has many merits to consider: let's start by saying that the film has a very well executed cinematography, limpid, with good colors and light, and that the sets and costumes fulfill with great merit the tough task of placing us in space and in time. It's not a film where effects are highlighted, but the soundtrack also deserves a note of appreciation since it does its job well, even though it seems forgettable and banal.
