This movie is AMAZING!!!! It is very fast paced with a lot of action, comedy & pretty decent special effects too! It is very entertaining & extremely enjoyable.

This was an amazing film. With a mixture of indiana jones, humor, horror, great storyline, great setting, music, and superb acting from Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah and Arnold Vosloo, you have got a great summer horror-adventure film.

Looking back on this film I'm not sure why it didn't have a better reception. Perhaps it was meant to be darker. Perhaps critics who had seen 1932's the Mummy were disappointed in the direction of the film. I'm not quite sure. I find that many of the complaints from critics were actually the high notes for this movie for me. It terrified me in the theaters as a young child, in my teens I watched it multiple times with various friends, now I watch it at least twice a year and quote it constantly. The Last Great Adventure Film
Don't get me wrong, we have had lots of great movies since '99, but I really feel that this is the last one where it was just 10 for 10 great. And it was a great way to end the 90's, which I still believe to beThe Last Great Adventure Film
Don't get me wrong, we have had lots of great movies since '99, but I really feel that this is the last one where it was just 10 for 10 great. And it was a great way to end the 90's, which I still believe to be one of the best movie decades; we knew how to make great movies and we knew how to make great trailers for those great movies--not just rapidly flashing scenes with drums and clashing and building violins, but REAL trailers edited to perfection with great music.

"The Mummy" just packs it all; from Adventure to Horror to Fantasy to Drama to Comedy, and in my humble opinion, it succeeds superbly in all five genres. It is just such a FUN movie! The sites (and sights), the sound design, the CGI (while I won't say it's perfect), and, of course, Jerry Goldsmith's masterpiece of a score which can take Alan Silvestri's for "The Mummy Returns" to the cleaners any day of the week.

While "The Mummy" was a blockbuster, it is sadly one of those unappreciated movies. Shortly after its release is when movies began to take a turn for the worse and become darker, and for what ever crackbutt reason, darker is what the American Audience wants. Audiences just want movies where everyone dies (a lot of the time including the hero(es)), the music is heavily synthesized, and the plot is simplistic.

"The Mummy" is an epic adventure from beginning to end. And I can only hope that our movies return to this movie-type some day soon. While I do like "The Mummy Returns", it was a little too silly for me. And "Tomb of the Dragon Emperor"? No comment. The first one just captures the fun-ness that movies are SUPPOSED to be; a movie that grabs you out of your world so you almost feel as if you're IN the movie (he said, at the risk of sounding either cheezy or loony), very much in the tradition of "Jurassic Park" and its sequel.

It's just truly a classic, and will hopefully remain so long enough to see a day when it is appreciated again.… Expand

This movie is so awesome! A great plot, awesome action, and Rachel Weisz make this movie totally cool! Rachel Weisz is super hot as Evy, a librarian who awakens Imhotep, the mummy, and then has to stop him. She is captured by Imhotep in order to be sacrificed to bring his love back. Now it's up to Rick O'Connell, played by Brendan Fraser, to rescue her. With tons of action and a totally cool plot, this movie is a great edition to any movie collection. Fraser is awesome as O'Connell, who knows something is alive under the sand of Hamunaptra, City of The Dead, and then he has to stop the evil from spreading. He is a funny action hero, and he does his best work in this movie. Rachel Weisz does a super job. John Hannah plays her brother Johnathon, who is some of the comedic support. Kevin J. O'Connor is also awesome as Beni, a little weasel in league with Imhotep. He is very funny. All in all, this movie is great and is one of my favorites!… Expand

I've never liked Brendan Fraser as an actor in any movie, and this is no exception. The movie was actually pretty good, with a good story and okay script, but Fraser is marginal at best. There's something about him that makes it so that II've never liked Brendan Fraser as an actor in any movie, and this is no exception. The movie was actually pretty good, with a good story and okay script, but Fraser is marginal at best. There's something about him that makes it so that I can't take him seriously in any movie. The stupid, bad comedies he's done (Furry Vengeance, I'm looking at you) have damaged his reputation. The Mummy is a pretty serious movie, but I can't take Fraser seriously in it. He could play a businessman in a Wall Street thriller and I would still think that at any time he's going to resort to slapstick humor somehow.… Expand

Oh my god, what a bad "indiana Jones wanna be". Actually some of it was ok but i hated the "good guys". I have never wanted the "bad" guys to win more then this movie. I know that time has not been kind to this movie and critics really ripped it to pieces, but I remember watching it on opening night and I enjoyed it immensely. The visuals (at the time) were fantastic. Acting: so-so. Story: corny but full of adventure and action cliches, to the point that I think it is mocking itself.

Overall:
The Mummy is a fun movie not meant to be taken seriously. Flawed, but enjoyable.… Expand

Few people know that this film is the remake of a classic horror film of 1932, with Boris Karloff in the role of the mummy. The film is directed by Stephen Sommers, who also wrote the script along with Lloyd Fonvielle. It has the participation of Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah and Arnold Vosloo.

The mummies and their curses are part of movie horror paraphernalia since the dawn of cinema, but were eventually pushed aside for decades. This film, though not of terror but of adventure, made a redemption of these elements and brought again the mummies to the cinema. And there are hundreds of them. The film is excellent, it's very fun, has no dead moments and makes an intelligent use of the mysteries of Egyptian civilization to thicken the suspense in the plot, that is lightened by several moments of humor. The performance of the cast was also very good and the soundtrack, although not particularly surprising or memorable, do very well her role. The special effects and makeup deserves a special positive mention, as well as computerization and digital resources, because they knew perfectly how to enrich the film without dominating the attentions.

This film is funny, smart without becoming inaccessible to the general public, and has suspense and some strong scenes, without being too strong for kids. So, it's a great family film, suitable for almost all ages and to see in almost any situation.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A good action movie. Visuals are great even if some special effects are a bit aged. Characters are attractive, especially the best one, the heroin's brother (John Hannah) which is hilarious. I found it hard to have some empathy for the main male character because he belongs to this sort of category in which you can find so-called hardcore men who kiss passionately the lady at the end and wait for the gold to rain. Apart this guy, the whole cast is awesome, even if a bit stereotypical (yeah, I'm thinking of this greedy and fat Arabic man). It goes the same way for the only one female character of the movie, who simply can't defend herself and screams way too much.
Scenario has something of already seen but manages to be original and unexpected at some point. Unfortunately the plot ends up messy as hell. How can you explain that a mummy so powerful loses against a bunch of unarmed guys ?
Clearly full of flaws but isn't unpleasant to watch.… Expand

Quite a fun action and adventure movie with some good little laughs along the way and you can tell Brendan Fraser's having a hell of a time during this movie.

Really good movie. Has some comedy with a Lil bit of horror. Those scrabs are crazy. How they go through people's bodies and kill them.

I can't understand how this got so low from the critics. This movie is alot of fun, i guess people spend time trying to compare it to something? I just enjoyed the movie the sequel is also amazing and i can't wait for the new one.

It is so amazing, a bit corny but its a huge funfest of a time, every second is interesting or either appealing. Its the year's best film.

The Mummy is not an oscar worthy film, but it is a great one at that. The Mummy is a remake of the 1932 original( also produced by Universal studios) the original Mummy stared Boris Karloff as Imhotep, but the difference between the original The Mummy is not an oscar worthy film, but it is a great one at that. The Mummy is a remake of the 1932 original( also produced by Universal studios) the original Mummy stared Boris Karloff as Imhotep, but the difference between the original and the remake is that the story and some of the character's are different but the the mummy remains the same, all be it the visual effects are much better now then they were then but the basic plot of both the movies mostly remain the same. The Mummy stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah as a group of egytologist searching for an ancient city lost beneath the sand a century ago. without warning or regrade for what they have done they released a 3,000 year old mummy for his grave. Now them and a group of ancient warriors have to stop Imhotep from engulfing the world in total darkness for all time. The mummy is a completely engrossing horror thriller with some of the best visual effect ever seen, it's one of those film you'll be watching over and over again. And it will never get old no matter how many times you watch it.… Expand

Awesome movie the CGI and comedic moments are outstanding plus I really enjoyed the action.
