It works as a "legend" made stand-up routine, but does it work as a fully-fledged movie, featuring the shirtless wonder that gave it its name? Short answer: on paper it probably did, and someone financed it. Short answer: on paper it probably did, and someone financed it. In reality: nope, when you see it in front of you with the embellisments added to make it more "movie-like".

And the same happens when you re-watch the legendary original special stand-up routine of the same name. It just is not as good, as if you have Bert as a buddy and you're standing next to him re-telling it for the umpteenth time to a new crowd.

I get that the low-brow crowd (which I count myself a part of since I do like his stand-up mostly) wants to like the movie no matter what, but if you sober up you'll see the big headache your punch-drunk stupid night out has evolved to.… Expand

Absolute garbage. Bad acting, bad directing, bad writing. The only ppl who are pretending to like this dumpster fire are die hard Bert fans (mostly overweight drunks), and they are lying to you.
Save your money.

Lots of his fans fawning over it but here's the truth about the movie: we were expecting Borat and got Ishtar. The technical aspects of the movie are okay, but the acting is rough and the writing/story is clumsy. The emotional tone really seemed forced and fake, which is critical for a comedy, just ask Steve Martin and Adam Sandler. The jokes were flat, apart from some throw away lines, and the funniest parts were in the trailer. Bert is great at standup comedy and self promotion, not making movies, sadly. Its hubris. He's relying on all the people that fill auditoriums for him to fill theaters as well. The difference is that his standup performances are vetted and edited over hundreds of performances in front of live audiences. This movie felt like a first draft. I hope this doesn't scare studios off from backing comedian made movies from now on, and I hope other comedians are taking notes on how to promote a film, just not how to make one.… Expand

Just here to add onto the hate of this dogsh***t boomer comedy about outdated stereotypes. I don't who this obese clown Bert is, but I am really scratching my head at how someone so obnoxious became famous or is even considered funny.

Kreischer is on point with his humor in this movie giving dome huge laughs, this movie also has some heart warming moments that night make you tear up. Absolute amazing comedy and movie in general!

As a fan of Burt and the Machine story / comedy I enjoyed this movie and don't at all reject spendy movie to see it! not sure why the critics are hating it but I recommend seeing this movie.

As someone that is not a sensitive snowflake the movie was great. Most people look at it as being bad for all the reasons it is great. Bad acting and cringy stereotypes was the idea of the movie in the first place. People need to grow humor lol.

If you like Bert's comedy, it's a fun ride with fun antics and decent call backs. It gets progressively more wild and out, but that's just like the story of The Machine.

Action scenes are on par with John Wick and some really touching moments. Overall a really good film that doesn't take itself too serious, but gets serious when it needs to.
