A bawdy, laugh-out-loud funny medieval sex comedy that, though a little slow to get going, more than makes up for its sluggish start with a steady stream of raucous though never gratuitously out-of-control humor. Think Mel Brooks with an edge, though one that never slips over the fence into the realm of bad taste and that continually finds inventive ways to infuse originality into material that could easily become trite in less skilled hands. This one surely won't appeal to everyone (especially devout Catholics), but those who appreciate well-developed irreverence will likely come away from this one with sore bellies and tickled fancies.… Expand

I can deal with this sort of comedy, I know it is intended to be foolish, but not taking you for a fool.

This movie is 90 minutes of pretty much nothing, it's lame comedy with lame laughs and lame jokes, it is slow and boring with suchI can deal with this sort of comedy, I know it is intended to be foolish, but not taking you for a fool.

Pretty bearable comedy, which literally and curiously recreates the classics of literature. The hilarious gags and immense sexual acts of the heroines was the best part of movie. I can only recommend because the cast is surprisingly good.

It's not amazing, but it's extremely fun and delicious as the black humor worked so well here, Aubrey Plaza once again showing that she has no gender or character that can not bring life and when it does, it's perfectly done.

I have been fooled again !
I am aware that people have different taste but in my opinion this film doesn't deserve that kind of rating at all comparing with other movies that much better and ending up with lower rating so the plot is lameI have been fooled again !

If so then "The Little Hours" is meant for you.

In the past week I saw the movie of the year so far, "The Big Sick", and a very different sort of love story, "Maudie" taht held my interest from beginning to end, then today I saw the worst movie of the year so far called "The Little Hours" beating out "A Very Sordid Wedding" which held the title until now.

Look at the trailer and after seeing/hearing the first line you think this is your kind of movie go for it but, even though I will always put watching a film on a movie screen versus a televison screen, save yourself movie and watch it on youtube.

I am far from being a prude but I found "The Little Hours" to be distasteful!… Expand

I don't know, expected more of this. Of course it is based on Decameron and the source matherial is quite similar to this, but I expected to see something more funny, but I think the trailer had the most of the funniest parts. Great castI don't know, expected more of this. Not bad, had some good moments in it. This was a raunchy film. Everyone gives a fun performance and you can tell everyone is having fun. It’s a real funny movie too and everyone should get a kick out of it.

"Trash" qu'ils disent sur l'affiche... ça doit faire référence à la "poubelle" en français dans le texte je suppose... parce que c'est le seul endroit où mérite d'aller, séjourner et finir ce film de baltringues.

C'est en gros et en fait notre Camelote -Kamelott pardon- à nous sous la forme d'un pseudo-film d'une heure et demi : d'habitude, on recopie les amerloques mais là, ce sont eux -bien mal leur en a pris- qui ont recopié sur les cancres franchouillards !

C'est donc la même daube qui se croit drôle et... iconoclaste parce qu'elle fait parler comme à notre époque les Bonnes Soeurs du Moyen Age et leur fait même dire des gros mots ! sans compter, cela va sans dire, tous les autres poncifs que le film énumère bien lourdement, à savoir les fantasmes qui concernent de loin ou de très près les Bonnes Soeurs en particulier et en général...

Voilà donc une sous-comédie de très bas étage très conne et fort consternante, à balancer dans les oubliettes de la connerie pathétique, bien entendu.… Expand

I won't reject occasional film like this. This is not a masterpiece that I was looking for, but surely something different than usual entertainment. Very nicely made film, so I appreciate whoeverNot about an ordinary convent of nuns tale!

I won't reject occasional film like this. This is not a masterpiece that I was looking for, but surely something different than usual entertainment. Very nicely made film, so I appreciate whoever involved in its creation. And then there's the beautiful cast. It was so perfect casting, each and everyone did their parts awesomely. So tell me who would bash such rare gem. Then the answer is like usual the film critics.

Aubrey Plaza is not a mainstream actress, but her films still make a stir. I enjoyed all her recent films and here's the another unique one. The third time she teamed up with the director, another decent comedy it was. Loosely based on the book, but it only spoofed. It tells the story of a convent of nuns somewhere in a lonely place. A new gardener joins them and the following events revealed as the thing that gets ugly and nasty. Many dark secrets unfold before it all ends.

I suggest it to you if you are bored with regular comedies. It was not powerful or a tale with full of twists and turns, but watching it once surely works well. It was a film filled with adult comedies. So not suitable for all ages. Especially those who strongly believe in religion would only get annoyed. Just watch it with an open mind, so the entertainment is guaranteed. Not overall a perfect film, yet still slightly an underrated film of the year.

Introduced to the sisters as a deaf-mute to discourage temptation, Massetto struggles to maintain his cover as the repressed nunnery erupts in a whirlwind of pansexual horniness, substance abuse, and wicked revelry. I found this film to be enjoyable to say the least, though it takes a bit to get itself going, it more than makes up for it with great dialogue, out of control humor and a great performance by Aubrey Plaza… Expand

The Little Hours

Jeff Baena, the director and the co-writer of this hilarious I-don't-think-satirical comic film, has all my attention I can give. And there are no regrets. Not even for a second. Despite its ups and downs. I am sure that the film has plenty of different aspects and things that is to be swooned over. But let me focus on one. Okay. So there's this one joke, in an entire film. A comedy film. First of all you've got to take your hats off for that bold move. Now, there have been such rare projects as such that has made its way up to the top. But no one walked on one track, one tune.

And the joke is- I hope you are ready for it- that these characters, the personalities they possess, is not actually how they are and behave. This contradiction between their appearance and nature is the ongoing and the only gag the film has. So now how do you make it last long, in fact, throughout the film. Well, the first is obviously that you push the boundary gradually as the film ages knowing where you are going with these sketches and how impactful the destination is.

And the second one, the surprising factor, the soul reason why it works every single time, is the reaction to these outrageous actions. Not only these reactions or characters are mirroring the enactments of the audience. But also is subconsciously telling the audience how to act in these circumstances. The observer is told to lose it completely in various ways, different positions, situationally. Now was this intentional or a fluke, is a latter matter. The result is that it works. Charmingly it flows by rather than it floods in. The Little Hours is little and feels barely like of an hour, everything in a good way.… Expand

It’s funny in a dry way, kind of an homage to an earlier era. So many comedy favorites in this and it’s a different kind of humor for most of them.

A movie that starts with so much promise but fades quickly in it's second half.
The quality comedic ensemble here seem to be having fun in this production, shame they didn't have a meatier script to work with.
