Expand

For me she surpasses the only other memorable turn she gave in 'Two Women' back in the sixties. The film itself is packaged nicely in music and production departments. The song Lo Si (Seen) just slays you. If the film doesn't win another single Oscar, the song must. Go Diane Warren. It's about time! Expand

As a streetwise, tough-loving mother figure, veteran actress Sophia Loren (in her first feature film role in 10 years) provides a perfect counterpart to a troubled 12-year-old Senegalese immigrant street child played by newcomer Ibrahima Gueye, helping him find his way and giving him the love, nurturing and support he so desperately needs. Director Edoardo Ponti (Loren's son) serves up a fine effort in his third feature outing, one worthy of the awards buzz it has been generating, especially for his leading lady's stellar portrayal. The story here may seem a little familiar at times, but its execution more than makes up for that, with the 87-year-old Loren adding yet another memorable performance to her storied career. Expand

Sophia Loren proves herself she still the living legend of the Golden Years in Hollywood, with a majestic performance such as this, makes The Life Ahead another excellent film for her filmography

Unfortunately, its characters are not fully developed, the city of Bari is not appreciated enough and it seems like this movie was shot in a random city in the Mediterranean area. Also, all the themes that it tries to tackle are only explored superficially, and as we say here in Italy, "c'era troppa carne sul fuoco". Expand

An example of how love can change everything, and heal. The story may be a bit like what was done before but it has its own light and a memorable performance by Sophia Loren. To see with a handkerchief in hand.

One of these orphans is Momo, wonderfully portrayed by 14 year old actor Ibrahima Gueye. Momo is a Muslim immigrant from Senegal, now living in Italy, who survives by selling drugs and stealing from people in the streets. After swiping a purse and pair of candlesticks off Madame Rosa, Momo is sent to live with her to get off the streets and rehabilitate. An unlikely match, Momo and Rosa grow on each other and soon develop a bond of mutual support, friendship and love. An Oscar-nomination worthy performance from Sophia Loren; a real and beautiful performance from young Ibrahima. Expand

The Life Ahead is compelling enough with what it has, but there's nothing about it worthy of remembrance.
When it ends, so will your interest.

How good it is to see the great Italian actress Sophia Loren as Madame Rosa. The film is a beautiful melodrama, has great performances and a good technical part.

I loved it. We are so lucky to still be able to watch the incredible Sophia Loren acting. She deserves a Oscar nomination as well as Ibrahima.

Touching storyline worth watching, I absolutely recommend it. Good ending. Never judge a book by its cover.
