Without a lasting legacy to leave behind, the whole film feels rather pointless and unnecessary. However, the story it tells is one that comes full circle in the span of under two hours. It's a complete story filled with great character interactions, awesome spectacle, and hard-hitting, but limited, action sequences. And although Edward Norton's performance was a one-off, he does an admirable job at bringing conviction to Banner. The eventual recasting of Mark Ruffalo, and the bleaching of the film in general, makes it such a strange movie. The ending, while somewhat reference in later Marvel endeavors, feels wasted and Dr. Samuels, aka Leader, feels even more-so.When recapping the entire saga, this is the single film that feels utterly awkward to view, despite the complete script. The cast seems bored a lot of the time, despite including talent like Edward Norton and Tim Roth. There's a surprising lack of urgency given the situations the characters find themselves in. Of course, there's nothing wrong with giving a movie time to breathe, but here, there's not much interesting going on. I found myself yearning for excitement on more than one occasion. At the end of the day, The Incredible Hulk is the kind of totally fine movie that you put on in the background when doing something else. Expand

Not as comic book epic as the first Hulk movie, but Edward Norton is a class actor and he had two great adversaries/actors to play off from. This is more about about cool character interactions than a good overarching story for sure.

This the best movie the MCU as to offer. I have watched every single movie Disney made with marvel (with the exception of eternals) and nothing has topped this. I wish norton continued playing the hulk.

More of the same.

This film seems to me to be a sequel to the film made in 2003 around the same character. However, apart from the characters, I was unable to discern any obvious connection between the two films. It is, for me, quite clear that, to be a sequel, it was made by others than the original actors and crew. When this happens, in general, the feeling of unity and continuity ceases to exist. And so it was.

In this film, Bruce Banner is a man on a mission: while remaining hidden from the American authorities, he tries as much as he can to find a cure or remedy for the genetic mutation he has and that leads him to transform. Interestingly, he is in Brazil, with no explanation as to why he is living in a favela in Rio de Janeiro, where a foreigner draws attention like an elephant in a china shop. Perhaps the director, Louis Leterrier, does not have a clear understanding of what these areas are like and how Brazil works. But we will continue ... and we will watch several attempts by the American army to capture Banner, which almost always end up in the same way: a lot of things destroyed and Hulk giving a brutal beating to the G.I.´s. The ending turns out to be easy to predict from the middle of the film.

Edward Norton is an extraordinary actor but he never seemed cut out for me to play this character, and I think he will have realized that himself later. Despite his talent, he never goes beyond average. William Hurt also looked very bad, in a cardboard villain that never proves to be credible or more than a walking cliché. Tim Roth was a casting error starting with the fact that he was not even American, or was able to disguise his accent. Liv Tyler was cold and unable to maintain good chemistry with Norton.

Technically, the film has qualities. Taking advantage of the large budget available to him, he uses and abuses CGI, special effects and sound, action scenes loaded with broken things and beating. Like the first film, the strong feature of this film is the pure and hard action, without any consistent plot. The result of this is a forgettable film, weak enough to not even be an option when we just want to spend some idle time.

A bland film at best. Edward Norton as Bruce Banner is good, as well as the other cast, but the story does not strike compelling nor different from any other action-blockbuster film.

Overall this is one of the more dissapointing movies out of the MCU, but not horribly bad either.

The Incredible Hulk was a let down compared to Iron Man. Hulk took itself way too seriously that it ended up being really cheesy. The slow pace of the movie and the miscasting of many characters hurt this movie imo.

After 'Iron Man''sIt's funny that even though 2008's The Incredible Hulk most likely **** the MCU timeline) took place in 2010 and after Iron Man 2 and was released the same as Iron Man that this film wasn't as good as it could have been. After 'Iron Man''s success, I would've thought 'The Incredible Hulk' would have been just as good if not better than 'Iron Man'. I also don't think it helped that the film was released just a month after 'Iron Man'. This movie isn't bad, but it's definitely not great. There are plenty of issues with it. Like Spider-Man's Norman Osborn, Bruce Banner wants to prove an experiment works and tries it out on himself. Except in this case, Bruce is exposed to gamma radiation and turns into a green monster filled with rage. Because of this, he's on the run from the United States Army, and the general that wants him locked up just so happens to be the father of his girlfriend.

The performances in this film were just okay, nothing memorable. Edward Norton's take on Bruce Banner was fine, but he wasn't a believable Hulk to me. Liv Tyler's performance as Betty Ross, Bruce's girlfriend, was very forgettable. The chemistry between these two is honestly laughable. There is no spark between them compared to Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow's Tony Stark and Pepper Potts. When they are on screen together, Norton and Tyler seem to force chemistry between them, and it doesn't work. Tim Roth's performance as the villain Emil Blonsky, a.k.a., Abomination is also forgettable. In terms of the MCU, he's one of the most forgettable villains and arguable the worst villain of Phase One. William Hurt gave a decent performance, but it wasn't enough for me to love this movie. But I think the worst performance goes to Tim Blake Nelson who played Samuel Sterns. His character was so irritating, and the acting was so forced and laughable. The whole performance was an abomination. (See what I did there?) The funny part is, we didn't see him until just before the final battle, yet he gave the worst performance out of everyone.

The pacing in this film also isn't good. While it's clear that Bruce has been on the run for a while, the film is very slow, and there aren't many exciting moments that help the film go by faster. According to the MCU timeline, Bruce had been on the run since 2005 when he first became the Hulk. I'm not saying they should have established that more, but it might have helped the pacing of the film considering it felt longer than the actual runtime.

There are some positives to this film, particularly the action sequences and visual effects. While I did enjoy them, the final battle was too quick. It was a long battle, but because the battle featured 2 giant monsters fighting that could move quickly, it was hard to study the scene. I felt the Culver University battle had more intensity and better lighting so you could see the action easier.

I also really enjoyed the score even though it isn't the best of the MCU. The Hulk's theme is suspenseful while the Bruce and Betty theme is more emotional, which I really liked.

I'm not a big fan of the costume design. Hulk looks nothing like Edward Norton, not even a little bit. The hairstyle is completely different, which kind of gives it away that they look nothing alike. This is where Mark Ruffalo's Hulk succeeds. It looks more like him. The Abomination also isn't appealing to look at. I get that they're monsters, but they don't really look menacing.

While I did point out more negatives than positives in this film, I still believe that 'The Incredible Hulk' isn't a bad film. It's not great, but it's more of an average film.

I kinda like The Incredible Hulk. Sure, some performances are bad and the choice of Edward Norton as Bruce Banner makes this film feel odd, but the script as plot are pretty solid, and I love the blink and you miss it tie ins. Like it really does a good job referencing Iron Man in a natural way that can be easily missed ( not including the end scene). Also, that scene with Tony, I argue, is more iconic and powerful than the one from Iron Man. To general audiences, that solidified that these two different movies take place in the same world on a great way that just clicks. I love the take on Bruce, a man on the run gives the stakes all the more weight. If he turns, he’ll be found. It just makes sense and balances out the Hulk’s power. Edward Norton is a bad Bruce though. He just doesn’t look the part at all, I much prefer Mark Ruffalo. Expand

Acting is terrific from everyone, especially from Ed Norton (Bruce Banner) and Liv Tyler (Betty Ross). Ed Norton manages to play with finesse different types of sequences that make us feel empathy for his character. The cast really is interesting, even if there are very few characters to get in touch with.

The scenario is great, as the introduction helps us to understand the events of the prequel. The whole movie is well-paced, paved with intense action intertwined with touching (even if one-dimensioned) romance. As a Marvel movie, it tries some jokes, but they always match the atmosphere, some being very funny.

The soundtrack is as terrific as the sound-design, and the movie rightfully uses moments of void and silence (as in the last scenes) to underline the most important scenes.

The quality of special effects vary : some scenes are amazing (particularly the explosive ones) while others (at the end notably) aren't that inspired. It goes the same way for colors and lighting as some shots are very dark or just plain disgusting grey. Fortunately to me the lore and relations between characters do the work.

I like how seriously it takes Bruce's struggle to keep Hulk out of his life. In this movie, whenever he hulks out, it's like he feels ashamed of himself after the fact. The counter of how many days he's spent without incidents is also a nice touch.

Not bad.

Its really disappointing that where this film really shines is when the Hulk isn't in it. I personally believe Edward Norton was a decent Bruce Banner. He really was doing a good job and he portrays the character in a way where you sympathise with his inner anguish. All the scenes where Bruce is trying to control his anger and deal with his inner struggle the film is very good. Unfortunately when the Hulk is prominent in the film it really suffers. First of all the character design and visual effects are dreadful making each scene with him in it looks very fake and that really makes the film suffer. The most disappointing aspect of the film is the main villain the Abomination. His character design is absolutely terrible and the visual effects used to create him look laughably bad. The whole 3rd act is a clusterf**k of terrible visual effects and poorly choreographed fight scenes which makes it a sour viewing experience. Overall The Incredible Hulk is a disappointing experience filled with compelling scenes of inner struggle yet laughable visual effects and poor use of action. Expand

'The Incredible Hulk' is closer to being forgettable than it is to being memorable, but that's not to say I didn't have a solid time watching. It's only really the ending that I felt dragged, yet even then it still has positive moments.

I liked Edward Norton's performance for the most part, particularly early on in South America. Tim Roth is good too, though a few of his scenes irritated me slightly - perhaps more to do with how the film uses him, rather than what Roth does himself. There are a few others, but those two are the most standout.

I did expect more, but there's enough there that I rate.

My board exams had just gotten over so I thought this was the perfect time to bingewatch all the MCU movies so that I could catch up by the time Endgame came up. The very first movie I watched was Iron Man and it was so cool. So I had really high hopes with The Incredible Hulk. And it fell absolutely flat. There are many reasons why I hate this movie, so I'm gonna go one by one through all the reasons.

So first of all, since I was bingewatching all the movies of the greatest superhero movie franchise of all time, the only scenes that stood out for me were the absolutely fabulous ones. This is the reason why I'm easily able to judge which movies are memorable and which ones are not. This one had a very memorable starting, but afterwards nothing huge happens in it worth remembering. Stan Lee died because Hulk's blood fell in a bottle that he drank, some junkies in Brazil thrashed Bruce Banner and got beaten up by Hulk, Hulk ran from the police/army, Bruce was captured and tortured to make him angry, Hulk fought a creature which looked better than him but had the same powers. Yeah, that's all I remember from this movie.

Secondly, the quality this movie offered. I really liked Edward Norton. I have no problem with his role. In fact he looked more Bruce-almighty to me than Mark Ruffalo. But the CGI ruined everything. This is the reason why the movie felt like a drag to watch. Most of the time it was just talking, talking and even more talking. The volume was also very low so I couldn't even take any interest in the talking. There was even a sex scene where Bruce starts turning into Hulk so he gives up trying.

Thirdly the villain in the story was a lot more likeable than the hero, because of which I was absolutely certain in whom I should root for. And it was definitely not Hulk. The lizard dude was looking way better than Hulk. It's kinda sad that this is the only Hulk movie, but considering Hulk's enemies look better than him, there shouldn't be any more either. And lastly, the final result of this forgettable story. What did we get from this movie? It didn't progress the plot forward in any manner. It played very safe with the general superhero movie plot trend - Hero gets powers, tests them out, villain who has the same powers wants to take over the world, hero villain fight, hero wins, roll credits.

It seems weird thinking this movie is a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Because this one looks absolutely nothing like the otherwise colourful, vibrant, story-rich movies. I really wish Marvel remakes this movie by editing the colour grading, CGI, sound etc. Because without that, sadly, you really HAVE to watch this movie if you want to see the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 2008's The Incredible Hulk feels like a more mature but lower quality adaptation of Beauty an the Beast.

The first half of the film feels more engaging than its latter half. We explore Bruce Banner as he struggles with his emotional management issues relating to the Hulk, and it feels like a film about self-exploration, and then we transition to what feels like a big narrative and tonal shift halfway through the film.

The latter half of the film then delves into generic superhero narrative territory, with Bruce Banner facing an antagonist that parallels him, and a big CGI-fest where Bruce gives in to his inner monster.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

Edward Norton and Tim Roth are the only lights in this boring and poorly written movie.

I used to think this was one of the weaker MCU films, wish I could go back in time to when that was true. Compared to the modern MCU output, this is definitely better.

Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.
