The Heat attempts to flip the buddy cop genre on its head by making the two leads female. To some extent, it succeeds. Unfortunately, the most original thing about this movie is that it's two leads are female. It's filled with laughs yes, but this is really just a somewhat less amusing version of The Other Guys, which managed to be wittier and have a better plot, all while sticking to a PG-13 rating.… Expand

What a disappointment. I was expecting great things from this movie. I thought McCarthy was great in Bridesmaids and likewise Bullock in Miss Congeniality. This movie failed not because of these two talented actresses, but because the screenwriters were just flat out lazy. The story was terrible, and the jokes just lame. I believe I lost all respect for this film when they introduced an albino character where they continued to insult him on various "white" jokes. Just lazy. There were some funny moments in the film, and just one I would consider hilarious. Overall, this movie had a good concept, but the filmmakers blew it.… Expand

All funny scenes we saw in trailer, the rest of the movie is kinda dull and stupid. An ok acting combined with badly written plot equals average comedy!

It seems they can not produce a very good comedy these days, forced humor, the story is not a strong thing in it. I do not lay out in laughter. Weak medium.

Melissa McCarthy got hot after "Bridesmaids," which was directed by Paul Feig who also did this. She's been on a roll since, but her style is wearing thin. This trite buddy cop pairing has potential for comic situations and there are some amusing, even funny moments. The dialogue is crammed with McCarthy's foul-mouthed litany of insults and threats, but they're simply too much. While the abuse sometimes produces laffs, the situations and writing is mostly contrived for best comic effect. Sadly, it fails more than it succeeds.… Expand

Well, you can forget about expecting any kind of plot from this movie. Pretty generic stuff. As for the comedy, there is some chemistry between Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, but it doesn't make up for the few laughs in this flick. When FBI agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) is sent to Boston to track down an arms smuggler she is paired with Boston detective Shannon Mullins (McCarthy) and the two use their interesting police techniques to bring down the illusive villain. Bridesmaids had the benefit of having a huge cast of extremely talented comedians while The Heat is quieter but still stuffed full of comedy. Bullock is excellent as the buttoned up agent as she manages to use the improvisational approach to the filming to benefit her characters nervous nature. While it takes a while to get going, the film is really built around its finale and its really is a fast paced, joke filled climax that lives up to all the setups. It lacks the comic timing of Kristin Wiig but McCarthy picks up the slack aplenty but its still not quite the same. Mullins is an abrasive character which unfortunately makes McCarthy's comedy very loud and ever so slightly ear shatteringly screechy. Another problem is the volume does remove any sense of subtlety to the jokes. However Bullock and McCarthy make an impressive comedy duo towards the end thanks to some much needed character development in the 2nd act, but the opening with its growing pains is dull as dishwater and it drags on the rest of the films riveting comedy antics… Expand

Paul Feig's follow-up to Bridesmaids is certainly miles away. Much of The Heat rests upon it's too very funny and gifted actresses. There's a certain magic between Sandra and Melissa--it has us craving for more.

The Heat is boring with a drop of funny. But the worst is Melissa McCarthy being abusive, obnoxious, vile, over the top and begins to grow irritating every minute the movie goes by. By the end the entire movie is irritating.

Comedy is a difficult thing to deliver, and for the most part The Heat is constantly enjoyable and quite funny. However, the story was not all that interesting.

Some fun funnies. Some editing problems. Some plot jumps. Very predictable. Good comedy if you have superhero origin story fatigue. This is the type of movie you can see being played on cable tv over and over later this year.

There is also a reliance on profanity and coarseness which is tiresomely juvenile. Sandra Bullock works hard, but Melissa McCarthy is beyond the pale with her all too familiar antics again on display. Her character is awful and she is awful. Still, at least she is consistent in her characterisations being despicable and unsavoury in everything in which she appears.… Expand

I'll get the good out of the way first. The movie does eventually start to pick up comedic steam after a while and comes up with some pretty funny scenes..., eventually. The way in which Bullock and McCarthy are complete polar opposites is the engine behind most of the laughs. However, I'd say the funniest character in the movie is an always angry, albino policeman. Now here comes the problems. For a while the movie is actually kinda awful. McCarthy's character annoyed me so badly that I just wanted her to get killed off as soon as possible. Needless to say, the screenwriter didn't want her to for some reason. So much time in this movie is wasted on her just dropping F-bombs like there's no tomorrow. F this. F that. Triple F this F, and etc. This is probably the most foul mouthed film I've ever seen. At this point in the game movies should stop doing the buddy cop formula for comedies unless they're so hilarious that no one in their right mind would care. This movie isn't quite funny or consistent enough to dodge that bullet. Actually, that bullet probably hit a main artery. I'd watch the far funnier and more inspired 21 Jump Street instead, which uses meta-humor to criticize its own formula, rather than acting like it's still fresh.… Expand

'The Heat' is interesting and at the same time is obvious, you will not die laughing in no time, unless you laugh at anything, but the main pair has a strong connection that carries the film on his back.

I went in the theater thinking that it might be a little stale u know full of cliches but they turned 70% of those cliches and gave them a cool hilarious twist Damn funny more than likely be buying this

On the surface this movie probably isn't as bad as it seems, however it seems to be a modern day spoof on 'Lethal Weapon' without the appeal and unfortunately stereotyping women as loud and annoying or demure and weak.

An Odd Family Reunion.

Feig's generously light case is an engaging goofy investigation that never proclaims its comic genre completely on its face. There is a lot to admire and lot to roll eyes on. Katie Dippold, the writer, is on the trial for the most part of the film. Not only is the structure of the script ripped off from your usual buddy cop films but even the elements too are eerily similar, the sassy introduction, a break-in on some criminal's house, a valuable friendly asset that is on the other side of the door and a melodramatic act that splits apart the somehow formed equation of the lead.

The only fresh ingredient is the involvement of Melissa McCarthy's family, in order to make it more personal and effective immediately- that was not planned. Paul Feig, the director, keeps his film neat and clean for us to skip in a rhythm that is his one of the best skill which makes his movie flow smoothly. Sandra Bullock jumping on a comic note after a while is a refreshing experience for both her and us. Although she is painted as a professorial know-it-all workaholic, her physical comedy is no match to the verbal abuse.

Speaking of which, McCarthy is the real gem of the film, from cussing like a sailor to body shaming herself, this is once again a home run from her. The expectations of a dynamic duo like McCarthy and Feig is over the roof now, and they may fulfill what the fans needs in some moments, but this is definitely a far fetched shot in their collection. The Heat is not something you ever feel, but as I said before, come in with a light hearted generous tone and you might end up having a good Friday night, if not remarkable.… Expand

The two women can hardly be more different: Sandra Bullock plays the good FBI agent who is way ahead of any male agent. Even in front of dogs. It always acts according to rules and regulations and is pretty much buttoned up in the process. The other policewoman is Melissa McCarthy is gross, cursing all the time and wants nothing to do with the men. Two opposites attract. There have certainly been many buddy movies in the past. Classics like Lethal Weapon, Only 48 Hours or Bad Boys. The idea that two women are now taking over the sceptre is not bad! Unfortunately, the various clichés prevent the fun. Bullock utterly spiilful and McCarthy utterly unsympathetic. Sure it has a gag or another in store and makes for a smile. On the other hand, the film promises nothing new and the actresses then annoy with time.
The action is well executed and promises some crackers. The plot is self-evident and does not promise new surprises. Unfortunately, the leading actresses and the other stereotypes are normal and long times with time. Verdict: Well suited for a rainy Sunday afternoon. Prefer to watch a classic Buddy Movie!… Expand
