Far from the blockbuster rhetoric of "Saving Private Ryan" and closer to "Band of Brothers" for the moments of emotion, unfortunately it doesn't know how to avoid many great naivetés.

Like after an hour of movie feels like much has not happened. What I mean is, that for such important topic the movie should be not rushed. It doesn't feel memorable or anything, and at some points even feels like a bit low budget acting. Expand

It has barely anything to do with trench warfare, the most prevalent style of combat in that war, the fighting scenes themselves are utterly laughable, where entire bands of Germans (who are just portrayed as evil henchmen) are mowed down and people fight with their rifles in open fields and ridges. But Ron Perlman, who appears in, like, two scenes and who totally didn't get half the movies' budget is here to save the day, shame he is entirely disconnected from the fighting itself. The phenomenon of "shell shock" is also getting portrayed here, although I've seen better displays of psychological disorders in my highschool theatre class.
But it all doesn't matter, because America is here to save the day, it doesn't matter how many people lost their lives and that the entire operation was just a senseless waste of life, the Germans losing a few square kilometres of land is what matters.
Honestly **** this movie, watch 1917, War Horse, or They Shall Not Grow Old instead.
