Doesn't Feel Like A Pixar Movie [average CGI, silly storyline...worst Pixar movie I'v seen so far]
Most of the reason I saw this movie is because I will always watch a Pixar movie despite the fact that they have mess up quite a bit lately. This movie, in my opinion, is more proof to show that Pixar has sort of lost it. Thanks to Inside Out, I will still give Pixar movies a fair chance in the future, but if they end up like this movie, I will no longer be giving Pixar a good name. Below average, will be forgotten very soon.

Not only do I not feel it's appropriate for kids I don't even feel it's appropriate for adults. It seems like it's trying to teach a lesson but the only less I got was that you need to kill people when your dad tells you to or you're a wimp that is basically responsible if your family dies. It made even less sense than that when I was in the theatre. It's like the movie makers were on weird drugs and had only read about the real world in comic books. The animation was really impressive but the story was truly twisted and nonsensical with on random disconnected scene after another ending with the longest goodbye scene yet put on film. No more 'kids' films for me! Wow. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I admit this review might be sort of unfair. Why? Because I fell asleep somewhere in the middle. But hey-- that's not a great sign is it??

What makes this film unique and interesting? It starts and ends with the premise. "What if the Dinosaurs survived? What happens then?" Apparently, not much! I don't even know how the premise relates to the actual story... If altering the course of the earth and creating a parallel universe was all just so some little kid could meet up with a dinosaur and become 'sorta friends'.. then I'm sorry, that's just a total waste of a premise.

From there on, you can approach this film two ways: Frustratingly illogical... or just incredibly bland and repetitive. I understand the production underwent a lot of revisions/problems and there were probably 30 uncredited writers on the film. It definitely shows. It feels safe and at times lacking strong direction or purpose. Why's the main character the 'Good' Dinosaur anyway? What did he do that was so good? And why the hell are they farming?? How the hell did they figure out how to farm? How many animals are smart enough to start farming? Why not give them blue jeans and eyeglasses while you're at it?

The worst was the last scene, that was begging to be a tear jerker; in the end the dinosaur and the kid can't be together. The kid needs to be taken in by some RANDOM FAMILY THAT HE NEVER MET IN HIS LIFE. Why would you leave this kid with a bunch of strangers, that for all we know could be cannibals?? Why can't he just stay with his dinosaur friend? Because they don't look the same? Isn't that called segregation?

Ohhh I know. Because they want to make it all sad and touchy-feely. Fine. Whatever. I'm tearing up because of how hard it's trying. It's pathetic. And it's just a terrible message.

Aside from the story, I was not very impressed with the characters designs (aside from maybe the little cave boy) or art direction. They just felt super basic and unoriginal. A lot of the secondary characters felt like they were lifted right out of Ice Age. Sure, the environments felt super realistic and golly gee whiz, that sure is a great accomplishment. Technically. But c'mon.. how about being creative with things? If I want to see a photo realistic flower... I'll watch National Geographic. You just spent millions of dollars trying to make a 3D tree look like a real tree... why not just shoot video of a real tree if that's what you want. Ugh.

The Croods (2013) may have had it's flaws, but it was so much better on every level. Go watch that instead.

One of the worst movies I have watched. Story was boring and unoriginal and the CGI is beyond crap. I was going through torture watching that movie. I genuinely wanted to kill myself watching it. DO NOT WATCH.

Watching this film, i never laughed, cried, smiled...nothing. No emotions evoked at all. Just cringing at the predictable and absurd events that happen.

Apparently being responsible for the death of your own father and almost dying countless times is no big deal -- doesn't phase the main character at all and continues like business as usual.

the only good point is the great environmental animations. The trees and plants look amazing.

The film " The Good Dinosaur " is extremely tense, with the characters
going through life- threatening constantly , several passages
mentioning or showing body parts being torn , etc. One of the film's
sentences say that a character was " drowned in his own blood " ... !

In the movie audience we saw children 3/4 years wept with fear during
the movie , talking to other parents they were afraid , and my 7 year
old girl had nightmares because of the movie ... not attend it, I never
seen anything like it .

The relate-able themes? The originality in presentation? It's like I watched a poorly mish-mashed spam of a dozen different movies over the past 20 years. The "twist" of dog-like humans served no plot purpose and caused this movie to make even less sense. 3/10 because whoever did the environment animations deserves an award. Expand

This film had many moments that pushed the story telling envelope to far. From characters eating other animals on screen, to characters getting high by eating old fruit. I do not believe Peter Sohn has the ability to tell a story in a Pixar way. Pixars other films are relaxed, optimistic and generally playful. This movie was not. It had a rapid successions of peaks and valleys with disturbing story elements mixed in. I hope this is an exception not an example for content we expect from Disney and Pixar. Expand

This movie blows and not in a healthy way. The characters are paper thin and boring, the sets, sequences and scenery all look amazing, but the characters all look like balloon animals in terms of artistic design. The art style for these characters looks beyond terrible, its almost blatantly obvious that they were designed by committee rather than by anyone with actual vision. The music swells, but scenes fall flat with almost no emotional levity. You almost feel frustrated to see this shallow "good dinosaur" keep making mistake after mistake and running away from EVERY CONFRONTATION in the entire film. This is supposed to be character building cinema right? Something positive for kids to admire or look up to? The main protagonist is a whiny, pathetic runt of a dinosaur that gets his own father killed, almost gets killed himself multiple times, almost gets his friend killed and by the end of it he just happens to learn the most important thing in the whole film- NEVER LEAVE HOME AGAIN. This is an embarrassing release by Pixar. It shows that not only do they not respect their audiences, but that they are perfectly content writing bad children's films rather than films that have a lasting appeal to young and old. All style and no substance gets you nowhere Pixar. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't know why Pixar released a movie like this or why it could classified as PG but this movie is both bad & improperly rated.
This movie is filled with cheap forced personality development with little to no reason shown such as is the case with Spot & Arlo. It also feeds into the overused plot of a character down on their luck until someone they love is killed, in this case the father in an exact copy of the Lion Kings Mufasa death with river replacing the stampede with Arlo watching from above (like i said exactly the same).
The movie also has in my opinion to much abuse for a PG movie from the father telling his son to murder the intruder to Alto being slammed around in a river resulting in very vivid bruising.
Another peeve of mine is the scene in which Arlo & Spot eat mushrooms which turn out to inflict a shroom-like effect on them both. Definitely not PG since this include drug abuse.
Overly violent murderous dinosaurs bragging and/or insinuating about how they murder others showing so much more violence than is neccessary for a pG.
Boringly painful storyline to watch, cheap character personality involving teaching kids being murderous is awesome as is the case with the T-Rex family, religiously infused dinosaur becoming murderous or solving your problems with murder & abuse. If they were trying to create a horror film for kids then this would be it as it has too many frightening elements for them.
The only thing I can say positively about this movie is the detail to environmental design otherwise not worth paying to watch either at home or at the theatre.

What a disappointing Pixar film. The Good Dinosaur is very boring, bland and childish. Almost every Pixar film has likeable characters except for this one.

This feels like it could have been one of shorts you saw before the movie started, there's not really enough content in here to keep you interested. Its a bit depressing, both in tone and in the scarce existence the dinosaurs seem to have. Unmemorable in every way and missing the magic a Disney/Pixar movie invests in their stories, there is not much humor, or good feelings about this one. Good riddance, I say.

The Good Dinosaur offers an enjoyable show of great animation, likable characters and funny moments, but at the end, it is cliched, unbelievable, unstable and low-breathtaking.
