This movie is among Nicolas cages better movies, while it does feel like it was a movie made for Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, I enjoyed watching the movie it's not too boring and I was expecting a lot worse from him, worth a watch I suppose.

A fantastic movie. Do you want to feel the magic of emotions? Watch this movie opening your heart... Much more better than "Sliding doors", another planet. Trust me, enjoy this movie...

Very interesting movie. It presents the "what if"s of life in a great way and it also shows the strugle in dealing with dreams that didn't become reality.

The Family Man is just as well-acted and entertaining enough to cover its predictable conclusion and exaggerated emotions. Viewers may be pleased anyway.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. At the beginning of the movie, Jack sings "La donna è mobile" from the Giueseppe Verdi opera 'Rigoletto'. In the opera, the song is sung by a womanizing duke who describes women as flighty and untrustworthy, when in actuality the duke is the flighty and untrustworthy one. This is similar to how Jack is at the start of the film: a wealthy, irresponsible philanderer who is blind to his own flaws Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Found this surprisingly enjoyable. The plot is not hugely original - the Christmas setting and angel are an obvious reference to It's a Wonderful Life, but Nicholas Cage's portrayal of Jack as the ambitious but hollow and soulless banker is effective. Then as he gets his "glimpse" of the life he could have had, we delight as he chafes against his humdrum suburban lot. Gradually, he is able to look beyond the surface and starts to make meaningful connections with his wife, Kate (Tea Leoni), children and friends. As he starts to realise the love he feels and how fortunate he is, it is all taken away. The emptiness of his old life is only too obvious and he is spurred on to seek out Kate, who is about to leave to live in Paris. In a reversal of roles, Jack pleads her to stay and they have coffee together.
As a film, it doesn't wholly satisfy, possibly it's the ending, where Kate is conveniently single. Are we meant to infer that she held a candle for Jack all these years? That said, the chemistry between Jack and Kate when they are a couple is charming - the wedding anniversary passage is a highlight. Jack's tantrum over the suit, his interactions with Annie and his grief when he realises it's all going to disappear, also stand out. New York is presented as some what twee and perhaps would have been shown differently if the film had been made a few years after 9/11 rather than before.
