This third outing for Denzel Washington's Robert McCall finds the former assassin on the shores of the Amalfi coast, starting life anew as he strikes fear into the hearts of some of the mafiosos situated there. I guess if I were to put a number to this one, it's somewhere along the lines of "2," but for different reasons. This is a serviceable action flick, with a stunning locale and as likable of a Denzel as you'll expect to get. I think where I fall out of love with things is in the slow-burn towards the action that we end up getting, all of which doesn't really amount to anything we've already seen in this franchise to date. Nothing in either of the other two "Equalizer" flicks tops the hardware store climax from the first one and, unfortunately, this might also just happen to have the weakest final set piece of the three, too. Again, an enjoyable movie — with a fun "Man On Fire" reunion between Denzel and Dakota Fanning — just not the best I've seen from this IP.… Expand

Don't go into the theater thinking "The Equalizer 3" will change the world. It won't. However, it will give you 2 hours of thrills and kills. Loved it. Denzel in fine form. Very violent but in a good way. Enjoyed it on the big screen & looking forward to seeing it again.

Trilogies tend to end with not much fanfare, but I have to admit the Equalizer Trilogy ended with a message that if you were paying close attention was building from the very beginning. Flawed, mildly entertaining Denzel Washington showcase movie with a great opening and some good tense action scenes. Feel like it could have been much better, if the characters had been fleshed out more and the scenes more coherent. This film starts with Denzel Washington quietly sitting in a dark room waiting for a group of bad guys to show up. Natch, he quickly dispatches them all and calmly staggers away. Since he was wounded, he spends time recovering with a kindlyThis film starts with Denzel Washington quietly sitting in a dark room waiting for a group of bad guys to show up. Natch, he quickly dispatches them all and calmly staggers away. Since he was wounded, he spends time recovering with a kindly doctor in a charming little seaside Italian village. Before long the local criminals emerge to terrify the locals, which he tolerates until he can't. While the brutal encounters are spread out, it's wonderful watching Washington enjoy this quiet life, while falling in love with the community. There are fewer fights than many current action flicks, but they're brutally effective. Director Antoine Fuqua has taken what could have been a by-the-numbers plot and expanded it to create a compelling character on top.… Expand
