The bad **** isn't bad enough. The "good" cool guy stays the same throughout the movie. And the lead just isn't quite dynamic enough. However, the two leads are extremely likable, and it's fun to root for them. Expand

The movie is preachy and predictable but at times came across genuine among the two lead actors. The DUFF is basically Mean Girls 3, only not as funny.

I had to choose between an action movie and this one, i wish i had chosen the former. The Duff turned out to be a teen comedy, so if you're 17 and below, this movie is for you. Felt like watching 2 episode of a disney channel series. TheI had to choose between an action movie and this one, i wish i had chosen the former. The story is fun but childish, it's about a high-school girl who discovers that she's the designated ugly fat friend (duff) and wants to change that and un-duff herself. cool Expand

The DUFF is quite entertaining and has a really nice poignant message. The film captures life, I mean the characters, and I'm mostly refering to Wesley (Robbie Amell) and Bianca (Mae Whitman), are realistic, humanized. The film captures life, I mean the characters, and I'm mostly refering to Wesley (Robbie Amell) and Bianca (Mae Whitman), are realistic, humanized. I got a weird sense that I was watching people I knew and not a stereotypical film version of them. The movie has that documentary feel to it and it's due to how the leads portrayed their characters and how easy it is to relate to them.

The only real disappointment I have with the movie is that I thought it would be funnier. It's still a comedy but it's a little more serious than I expected. Watching the trailer I thought that I would laugh a hell of a lot more, specially when you look at the established comedic cast in it. Whitman and Amell do have good comedic timing and The DUFF is fairly funny but the quality of the jokes are not as high as I hopped they would be.

The story is intelligent, insightful, and kind of funny but it's still very predictable. The DUFF is on the edge of being great but it’s not.

Was surprised by this one. A meaty performance from Mae Whitman pushes this past regular teen fodder into a fresh comedic space, even if the ending is predictable.

Enjoyable, but overall very predictable. I still recommend it to all teens out there looking for a movie - it deserves a watch. But i'm giving it a 5/10 because it was a decent movie for me and i can't tell if you'll like it or not.

This movie stars a bunch of talented young Hollywood types that do a fairly good job, but for me it came across as an upscale Nickelodeon special. Not my cup of tea.

There's just enough fun humour, character development and good acting to keep you engaged - it's just a bit of fun that carries a slight whiff of serious theme and relationship development to carry you along.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: Overall, it's by no means the most exciting, funny or interesting film out there by any stretch of the imagination. It's plot is unbelievably one dimensional and cliched, and the ending is horrible - but these are all things which won't really affect you if you don't get too into it (which I certainly didn't)
VERDICT: You can have a bit of fun with this movie, but you'll forget about it as soon as you've seen it. 'The Duff' is a thoroughly average teen flick with little exciting to offer.

Completely generic and full of clichés, how many times have we not seen this story? The thing that distinguishes and saves the movie a little more is the nice performance of its protagonist, Mae Whitman.

Honestly the film does not expose

Honestly the film does not expose anything new but is a pleasant comedy for a weekend.

I would say that anyone who wanted to watch this movie could probably consume the same quality media by reading a sub-par teen romcom on wattpad. Expand
