Early work from Ridley Scott with an excellent plot. This movie is a masterpiece letting the viewers participate in the end of the 18th century noble honor code, a code which looks quite irritating to us nowadays......

Impressive to be a debut, even being Ridley Scott.
It definitely feels different from the rest of his filmography but that was to be expected. However it's very interesting to see that here there are many glimpses of what would come next for him.

This is by far the best Ridley Scott's movie. Simply visually beautiful, simply as entertaining as a movie gets, simply greatly screenplayed, simply Scott at this best.
