I didn't read either LA review, I just went to see it based on an email I received. (Before I state my opinion, in the interest of full disclosure, I must admit that I did not see "Snakes on a Plane," and I probably won't.) This I didn't read either LA review, I just went to see it based on an email I received. (Before I state my opinion, in the interest of full disclosure, I must admit that I did not see "Snakes on a Plane," and I probably won't.) This film was marvelous. No, it's not for everyone, in the way that "Pirates of the Carribean 2" is. But if you're like me and you couldn't sit through 5 minutes of "Pirates", then run, don't walk to see "Dogwalker." It probably won't stay long at the Music Hall, these kinds of films usually don't. And then we ask ourselves, how did I miss that? I expected it to be honest, and gritty, and not pull punches. That it was. I didn't expect it to be funny (in many places) and so moving. I am a dog person, and I emplore all dog people especially to get out of their homes (the dogs will understand) and see this film on the big screen! Expand

The film upset the hell out of me....in a good way. Don't get that bad review, even though I can see how people can react negatively to it because it is complex and disturbing...very human. Stuff people hate to see in themselves. But in The film upset the hell out of me....in a good way. But in the end, it's sad, but uplifting. A plain old great film! Expand

Don't get me started on that thoughtlessly hostile review. Even the Chronicle one is lame. I saw the film. I don't know what the hell they saw. I don't know what the hell they saw. Although the story structure is nothing new, the characters are real flesh and blood - deep and contradictory. The film also has a strange, unsettling mood that reflects something beyond words. Perhaps that's what freaks out reviewers, but it haunted me in a profound way. Still with me. Great film! Expand

I read a lot of reviews that ALL miss the point. Even the good ones. They never mention the suppression and emergence of feminine energy, the processing of feminine anger, the sublimation of raw emotion and the film's numerous and distinctive visual/social metaphors. You look at this film in so many ways that most (male) reviewers (and the female ones, too, unfortunately), completely missed. I'm floored that this film was made by a guy. He must be channeling a goddess or something. Or his wife (who plays the lead) is more than just the actress. :)! She was awesome, by the way. And so beautiful it hurts. Expand

Not sure how these reviewers are giving this film a bad review, especially when you look at the stuff they're giving GOOD reviews to. Especially this Olsen character, who seems to have some kind of axe to grind. Anyone who enjoys Not sure how these reviewers are giving this film a bad review, especially when you look at the stuff they're giving GOOD reviews to. Especially this Olsen character, who seems to have some kind of axe to grind. Anyone who enjoys personal indie films with real, compelling, raw characters would at the very least find this film engaging and unique. To call it a chore to sit through? These types of critics should stick to Snakes on a Plane. Expand

I hope few people take Mark Olsen's review of Dogwalker in the LA Times seriously. Although Mark Olsen is both smug and glib in his dismissal of the independent film Dogwalker, he ends up revealing far more about himself than he does the movie. [Ed: Hey Sean, meet John...] A quick sampling of his reviews on rottentomatoes.com reveals that he again and again snubs independent films for being earnest and personal, and he champions mostly ironic, cold, genre films (like May, Inacto, and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang). He gives a nod to only one out of every five independent films he reviews, as his tone is almost always condescending. Although he himself may squirm while watching honest, personal filmmaking, most movie fans will LOVE Dogwalker. Expand

Pamela Gordon gives a hilarious performance as a hard living older woman who passes on her dog walking business and gives a young woman a frickin' life.

Thelemaque's film is told with such a finesse and mastery of craft that it speaks of talent and artistry beyond his years. It is refreshing to behold the work of a true artisian at ease and at home in the prescious moments of bleak realities.

The late Pamela Gordon also gives a stellar performance, as together this team puts a very truthful portrayal, a slice of real life up on the screen. Dogwalker is a touching story about healing old wounds and finding new friendship, love and hope in rebuilding one's life. Thelemaque directs with a master's touch, and his style reminds me of the best offerings from John Sayles. The fact that both Thelemaque & Gaidry are co-founders of Filmmakers Alliance in Los Angeles, and that that very community contributed immensely to making the film, sets them apart in the independent world as leaders who put their money where their heart is, and deliver the goods when they themselves are out in the field. To not see this accomplishment of theirs is to doubt the very foundation of independent filmmaking. And if you're a filmmaker, see this film and celebrate in their triumph, so you can be inspired by what's possible and aim high in your own aspirations. Expand

Powerful and human -- the tenuous, true relationship at the heart of the film stays with you.

Jacques Thelemaque's thoughtful first feature brings us into the world of Ellie, a lost woman who doesn't seem to have any direction. She meets Betsy and slowly learns to care for dogs, and herself. This film is very well put Jacques Thelemaque's thoughtful first feature brings us into the world of Ellie, a lost woman who doesn't seem to have any direction. She meets Betsy and slowly learns to care for dogs, and herself. This film is very well put together, and the cast is refreshing. I love Pamela Gordon's crumudgeony, crusty old woman! Watch out for Diane Gaidry - this hot actress is on the rise and has been in a ton of features recently, and just won an award! Expand
