There is some sort of nostalgia in film I get when the USSR is involved as the backdrop. The movie is shot well and it has very good actors, but it’s just not very thrilling. The “true” parts of the story are insane and had a very real affect on the outcome of the Cuban Missile Crisis, yet for some reason as amazing as that is it just doesn’t come across as the compelling reason to watch this. The score does it’s job, but with a film that has source cues from Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev it became forgettable by the end. Other then people who like to get their history from amalgamated entertainment this is okay to pass on. I will say that Cumberbatch undergoes a real transformation in this, but I’m not sure if it was necessary. Expand

The style and tone reminded me of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, but unlike that film, The Courier lags far behind.

The committed performance of Benedict Cumberbatch is an excellent incentive to enjoy this film, but much of its passivity is frustrating in points, because it's supposed to be a spy thriller in the middle of the Cuban missile crisis, so it should have been more proactive in terms of tension, and there really isn't much there.

The Courier is a sober and dark film, especially in its second part, but that itself drowns out the drama a bit and doesn't let it breathe better.

It never becomes a bad movie, far from it, but it also never lives up to what its story proposes.

Cumberbatch produces himself in a movie with which he wants to prove that he is a good actor not only in the management of psychic expressions but also in bodily transformations, and chooses a dusty story about the Cold War and the Cuban missile crisis already told who knows how many times and with much more emotion. Modest and ambitious, devoid of rhythm and surprises, Dominic Cooke directs a true story with the perfect reconstruction of the leaden atmospheres of the time and with a didacticism that traps him in a rather anonymous episode of "History Channel".
