Average at best definitely worst one out of the franchise comparing to conjuring 1,2 and this one 3, it has its scary moments but very few and far in between. It's a slow burner leading to a quite mediocre ending. You dont feel that attached to the characters the Warren's In this story. because the story is all over the place. The story revolves around arne a young man who under demonic possession kill his friend and is on trial for murder that could lead to the death penalty. The Warren's have to figure out how to save arne by proving he was possessed when committing the murder. The demon is really a background character. And really serves nothing more then a plot point to the real evil person in this movie. The story simply follows a evil satanic worshiper named Isla who studies the black witch craft and a follower of the cult of the ram.that gives her powers through a curse that binds herself to a demon. The witch needs 3 special sacrifices to the demon, and its not really explained why she needs to perform these sacrifices, just that she does it for her diety. If she doesn't perform the proper sacrifices the demon takes her soul back to hell.The movie is 1hr 52min long when the movie should have been at most 90 min.… Expand

Really boring, really. It's slow and weird mini "boss-battle" just to slow Ed and Lourraine Warren down, the only thing that carries the franchise is Annabelle.

It’s an absolute dud when stacked against the previous two entries in the conjuring series. It feels incongruent with the subject matter. There’s this strange feeling that the entire world only involves the Warren’s and that priest that seems to tag along in every scene. The film is almost too self-aware, and appears to be imitating a diluted gist of the previous movies. Stakes never feel very high, and the convoluted plot approaches nonsense far too often to be taken seriously. And the main villain? Who the hell is this woman? Why do I care at all about her curses?

Everything about Conjuring 3 is weak and dull, and the acting is either melodramatic or silly more often than not. The best I can say is that it is competently made, and some moments were interesting conceptually. With that being said, this movie is generic horror fare, and will impress absolutely no one.… Expand

Sorry folks, I don't like to be the one to hate on a Conjuring movie but honestly this is not good, at all and it might finally be time for The Conjuring franchise to say enough.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is loosely based on the real life murder trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson. When I say loosely based I mean they took the basic premise and completely ran away with it. So Arne (Ruairi O'Connor) is arrested for murder but it wasn't really him it was a demon because why not. Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) need to gather sufficient evidence to prove it was a demon responsible and not just cold blooded murder. Unlike your typical Conjuring movie, the third instalment doesn't confine itself to the haunted house scenario. This one is all over the place in more ways than one. Ed and Lorraine must investigate and this takes them to a whole bunch of different locations but essentially the same thing keeps happening each time. They arrive to a new scary location, Lorraine holds out her rosary beads and senses the evil presence, she experiences a disjointed vision and then something scary jumps out and chases them around the woods/house/morgue. I don't believe The Conjuring 3 adds anything new to the horror genre, it clearly appreciates other horror movies and pays homage wherever it can. Most notably the opening scene reminding us all of The Exorcist, a movie you'd be better off watching to be honest. The most impressive thing about The Conjuring 3 is the opening sequence featuring a possessed child. Using no CGI and instead opting for stunt double and contortionist Emerald Gordon Wulf. Aside from that it's all downhill from there.

I'm a fan of The Conjuring 1 & 2, not the spin offs but I believe this is the point where the Conjuring Universe needs to retire. It's well past its peak now and the standard seems to be just getting worse. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are really the only good thing I can take from this mess. Not recommended, if you're in the mood for a horror movie do yourself a favour and see A Quiet Place Part II instead.… Expand

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do shows a strong change by losing James Wan as a director, since the atmosphere of the films he made is still there, but not the tone, and the most positive points of the film lie more in the work of the main duo, that in what the story and the new director end up doing.

Some things I liked, I admit, but there are many others that just seemed quite predictable to me.
This is more than anything because, although this film changes the style a bit, the narrative continues to be supported by the same tropes, and that's tiresome and boring, because believe me, waiting for something to come out of the dark is no longer effective.

Problematically the film explores a different type of villain, but it never decides to go for it all, and is resolved in a sentimental ending.
And that was a shame, because if this franchise is looking for a fourth film beyond its financial success, it really needs a formula change, from start to finish, especially since the spin-offs have also weakened the franchise in terms of ideas.

It's mentioned that this installment is less terrifying than the previous two, but the other two did not seem terrifying either, so the scares depend on you.… Expand

Giant step down for the series. Boring and too long is not a recipe for a good movie. You feel disconnected from anything happening and the Warren's feel like strangers, it's very weird. I'm a huge fan of the Conjuring Universe. I was looking forward to this movie for so long. I'm here to say, I've been disappointed. The best part of the film is the first 10 minutes. I really like The Conjuring 1 and 2. Both are some of my favorite horror films and that is mostly because of Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, and Director James Wan. It feels like a rip off of James Wan style which sucks because he made the first 2 movies so interesting while this one falls into the worst trap a horror movie can fall into; being boring. While the opening feels like something James Wan would do and it’s the best part of the movie, the rest of the film fails miserably to match that energy. While 1 and 2 had some issues, the uniqueness of it and the scares always kept you engaged but in this one, Ed and Lorraine are the ONLY interesting things about this movie. The story falls into a stereotypical horror film with every story beat being predictable and while yes the first 2 films were predictable, it was getting to that end that made you invested but this time you know everything that is going to happen. The first two films benefited from having supernatural elements while this one is just a witch lady who isn’t dead. I really don’t understand why they did this. She isn’t possessed by anything. She just kinda walks around and manipulates people. There were some things I liked about the film though. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga still do a good job with the material and John Noble was pretty great as well. Some of the cinematography looks nice and there is a great shot at the beginning that takes inspiration from The Exorcist. That’s about it. There really wasn’t a whole lot I liked. It was just a very bland, very forgettable, and unscary addition to this flailing universe. If you have seen the first two then you might like this but skip this and just watch the first 2 Conjuring movies.… Expand

The film features the story of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, the first defendant in the history of the United States who claimed to be possessed by a demon in 1981.
In the first 11 minutes of the film, the exorcism of a boy of just 11 years old, David, Debbie's brother, is shown, and it is at this point that Arne invites the devil to possess him. In the first scenes we have many references to classic movies like the exorcist.
Directed by Michael Chaves, the same director of The curse of La Llorona, The Conjuring 3 has many different aspects from the previous ones, mainly in terms of direction. James Wan was really missed in the film because it brought aspects that no other director can bring to horror movies in general. The film does not present what was promised, it lacked great memorable moments and hardly anyone will be afraid watching it, in the previous ones we have Nun Valak, Annabelle and even the crooked man different from these, the main villain of the story is not remarkable and will hardly win a movie for not be as interesting as the other characters.
The plot features Ruairi O’ connor as Arne, Sarah Catherine Hook as Debbie and Julian Hilliard with David who fulfill their roles well as the main supporting characters. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return as Ed and Lorraine doing a great job again.
Warren's flashbacks are well explored here, bringing out how they met, which becomes an important memory in the development of the film.
the conjuring 3 is far from being the scariest of the franchise, it only shows part of the criminal investigation and even Arne's story at times is left only in the background, the ''scare'' attempts didn't work. It ends up becoming good for those who are already a fan but nothing interesting for those who are not a fan of the franchise. The first movie remains the best of the entire The conjuring universe, becoming a horror classic today.

The long-awaited third Conjuring movie moves away from the haunted house style horror of its predecessors in favor of a murder-mystery angle that naturally sports a strong supernatural element. The results are nothing short of a letdown. The results are nothing short of a letdown. Not because of the new approach or anything, but rather the noticeable lack of James Wan at the helm. Director Michael Chavez proves to be a poor substitute for the longtime genre veteran, as despite having a compelling narrative to work with he is unable to bring any real terror to the table making the whole experience far more boring than it should have been.

The actual story itself certainly covers some frightening material. Regardless of whether or not you believe in the demonic entities they worship, the existence of satanic cultists isn't something that can't be denied and their inclusion here does add an extra spine-chilling quality to the proceedings. The problem is that this tension never manifests itself onscreen. The attempts at scares are all of the generic exorcism variety and it gets so caught up in its own plotting that it almost forgets to include any for the entire middle portion of the film.

While it lacks the thrills and chills we've come to expect from the series, it does at least still have the Warrens and in one of their more interesting cases to boot. Which counts for more than you might think. It's nice to see that more sentimental nature of The Conjuring 2 was not lost in this follow-up. Once again the bond between the paranormal investigating husband-and-wife duo is a core focus and wonderfully brought to life by the incredibly charming Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga who make these protagonists the most endearing opponents of unholy evil this side of the Insidious franchise. There's a emotional component added to the mix because of this that, along with the sight of child's body contorting under the influence of possession, actually got me a little teary-eyed in a few parts. Although ultimately ending up kind of dull to watch unfold, the concept alone is also fascinating enough to likely keep you engaged until the credits roll. It definitely inspired a desire in me to learn about the real event this is based on. If only to decide for myself whether or not I buy Arne Cheyenne's claims.

If you're a fan of the previous two entries and the larger universe that's been built around them this may still be worth checking out for you. However, it's an unfulfilling continuation to some of the greatest works of modern horror that most devastatingly does little to raise the pulse or cause any feelings of unease in the absence of their original director. Chavez did do a respectable job and shows potential, but Wan's shoes were simply too big for him to step into. Leading to a very promising premise feeling like it went to waste in what is so far the biggest disappointment of 2021.

I should mention at the outset that I don't like horror movies. That's probably why I'm a bit stricter than others in this genre. I did, however, like The Conjuring series. I did, however, like The Conjuring series. From the moment I found out that the third installment wouldn't be directed by James Wan, I wasn't expecting anything special. Unfortunately, the quality of this film fell even lower than I expected in my eyes. The change of scenery will probably be welcomed by a lot of people for trying something new. Personally, I see this change as a negative. The locations, except for a few, did not appeal to me here. The story is nothing special, but just overall I found this movie so meh... I just missed those delicious moments from the previous episodes, when the Warrens were preparing all sorts of gadgets for the demons. This is purely my opinion.. I apologize to any fans or those who liked the movie, but I personally can't recommend it.… Expand

Considering the strength of the original this was a real disappointment. ‘The Conjuring the Devil Made Me Do It’ is by far the weakest entry in the Conjuring Cinematic Universe. James Wan, who made the previous two movies, didn’t direct this time around and instead it’s directed by Michael Chaves, who previously did ‘The Curse of Livin' La Vida Loca’, and it painfully shows.

The Conjuring movies are like ‘the big event’ of these series of movies, while the spin-offs feel like the starters you usually skip to get to the big meal. Unfortunately, this feels like one of those spin-offs.

None of the scares were effective or scary as the build-up was seriously lacking. There was no atmosphere or tension for there to be any evil presence, but instead it felt predictable. Whenever the movie tries to do a U-turn in terms of the build up to the scare, it felt lackluster. The main “evil villain” wasn’t that interesting or terrifying, but I respect the film makers for trying to do something different and not sticking to the old haunted house formula, even if it sucks. I mean, it would have been easy to bring back “Da Nun”. I mean the story had potential. Loosely based on the trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, also known as the "Devil Made Me Do It" case, a unusual case where the first time ever in the United States court history that the defence claim to prove themselves innocent was based upon demonic possession and having no responsibility for the crime. A courtroom drama like ‘The Exorcism of Emily Rose’, maybe? I mean in the trailer it did gave off the impression that the movie was going down that route. However, the movie misses the opportunity to do anything with it. Also, despite the Hollywood label “based on a true story” when it’s like 10 or 20% true. And another thing to note is how none of the actors look like the people they are portraying on screen, but that’s nothing new in the industry of movies.

Despite my criticisms, it’s not a bad movie, as there were some merits. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as the Warren's are always the best part of these movies, so it will come to no surprise that both elevate this material. These movies are about them and it will be a crime if any filmmaker somehow messes that up. They both deliver heartfelt, charming, and emotional performances that you rarely see in these type of horror movies. I thought the supporting cast were good as well, especially Ruairi O'Connor, who plays Arne Cheyenne Johnson, he is one of the stand outs. The opening of the movie was solid and set up the events that would later occur in the movie, despite the payoffs being disappointing. There were a couple of interesting shots that stood out to me. Then again, The Conjuring movies are always technically well made.

And that’s really it for positives. Overall rating: As I said early, it’s the weakest out of the previous two, but even then, it still overshadows the spin-offs. And to end things off, this may come across as random, but this weirdly feels like an ‘X-Files’ episode mix with ‘X-Men’, in terms of supernatural happenings and Lorraine basically having superpowers. The double XX’S. I’m not sure how I feel about that. But yeah, based on a true story.… Expand

The comedy kinda ruin the story, the love story is kinda dumb and mainstream. the ghost or the evil (what ever they are) are not scary at all, the jump scares are so predictable and so cheap.

The paranormal investigators and demonologists, Ed and Lorraine Warren, returns for the eighth instalment of The Conjuring Universe which features the real life court case known as The Trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson (also known as “Devil Made Me Do It” case) where it is the first known court case where the defense seek to prove innocence based on the defendant’s claim of demonic possession.

In the year of 1981, the Warrens were conducting an exorcism of an 8 years old boy, David Glatzel, which were attended by his family including his sister’s boyfriend, Arne Johnson (O’Connor). During the exorcism, Arne invited the demon to enter his body in order to save David which was witnessed by Ed Warren (Wilson) before he passed out due to heart attack.

Months later, Ed woke up in the hospital and warned Lorraine Warren (Farmiga) that Arne is in danger and told her on what he witnessed before he passed out at that time. Unfortunately, it was too late because Arne murdered his landlord by stabbing under a demonic possession and he was arrested soon after. The case was then brought to the court. Arne’s attorney warned the Warrens that they must find evidence on his innocence before his trial or else he will received a death penalty.

The Warrens began their investigation starting with David’s possession. They discovered a witch’s totem being placed under David’s house. To learn more on the totem, they visited a former priest, Father Kastner (played by John Noble), who previously have dealt with a satanic cult. It’s now up to the Warrens to complete their investigation before the day of Arne’s court trial.

Unlike his previous movie he directed, The Curse of La Llorona, Michael Chaves did a great job in directing this movie. He managed to keep the movie with the same vibes as the previous two Conjuring movies previously directed by James Wan. It’s look like he did the right thing by choosing him to direct the movie. In addition, this movie does not filled up tons of jump scares for the sake of trying to be horror like 2018’s The Nun and The Curse of La Llorona which is good considering too much jump scares does not make the horror movie good.

Just like in the previous Conjuring movies excluding 2019’s Annabelle Comes Home (due to their minor roles), Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga gave their best performance and still never lose their touch. Their chemistry together on-screen is was really heartwarming to watch. Their performance made this movie a worthwhile to watch and none of their scenes are boring. The movie have also done well in making some connections and call-backs to the previous instalments of this franchise. It shows that the filmmakers are not forgetting those movies but they also cared for this franchise as well.

As for the story, it’s very a interesting concept to explore of a man committing a murder under an influence from the Devil. Despite that, it was not executed well due to some characters are not well developed. The worst one was the main antagonist of this movie. The movie did not do a good job in developing a backstory for the main antagonist. Because of that, the main antagonist is just a generic villain unlike the main antagonists in the previous instalments. As for John Noble, I felt that he was really underused in this movie because he only had few scenes. A real total of waste if you asked me. Unlike the previous two Conjuring movies, this movie is less scary and the jump scares are weaker this time around.

While I considered this movie to be weaker than the first two Conjuring movies, this movie is still at least better than 2014’s Annabelle, The Nun and The Curse of La Llorona. If you have watched all of the previous instalments or just the first two Conjuring movies, you may want to catch this one.… Expand

The Devil Made Me Do It is a huge disappoinment and the weakest compared to both 1 and 2. Dumb story, weak soundtrack, predictable jumpscares, and the ghost just fails to scare me in any way.

Los sustos, no sé muy bien qué decir, algunos bien, algunos mal, no miden demasiado bien por lo general.
No te va a parecer una maravilla, pero te va a parecer algo más que pasable, muy interesante, la construcción de la trama específicamente, aunque tirando más al final va perdiendo fuelle.
Cosas buenas: Las actuaciones, se nota mucho la química, es satisfactoria de ver, te quedas contento, y tiene un buen ritmo de narración.
Cosas malas: La historia es muy cerrada, no da pie a otras películas y no es tan aterradora como las anteriores.
Conclusión: Pese a que iba un poco reticente por las críticas que había leído, salí contento del cine, te deja bien la película, es muy disfrutona.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’ve seen the movie that Michael Chaves directed before this, The Curse of La Llorona, which was his feature film debut. The Devil Made Me Do It is a big step up for Chaves from La Llorona and is a much better film; unfortunately, it’s also a big step down from the two Conjuring films that came before this one and is a disappointment in a lot of ways. The writing is really where this movie falters for me, because the story and directing actually aren’t that bad. The dialogue is decent, but the script overall is filled with missed opportunities that could’ve made this movie the best one so far in the Conjuring franchise. In other words, I don’t think that Chaves is entirely to blame for the quality of this film and I think he did the best he could with what he was given. This isn’t to say that the directing is perfect; there are disruptive moments and scenes that could’ve been improved, but overall Chaves did a pretty good job with what he had available to him. TDMMDI is about a man who murders his landlord and claimed that a demon/supernatural presence made him do it, and the film centers around Ed and Lorraine Warren attempting to clear his name. At its core, this is a pretty interesting concept and one that I’m glad the filmmakers decided to explore. However, the way this concept was written out on paper was very problematic. I came into this movie expecting to see a lot of scenes in a courtroom where the Warrens are doing everything possible to prevent Arne, the man in question, from spending decades in jail for a crime he was “forced” to commit against his will. Being that this movie is based on a true story like the first two Conjuring movies, I put the word forced in quotations because we’ll never truly know what happened when Arne killed his landlord. That said, I don’t even think this movie spent more than a minute or two of its total runtime in the courtroom, which for me is a huge mistake. TDMMDI could’ve and probably should’ve been a movie about how you would go about proving that someone committed a crime due to demonic possession in a courtroom and could’ve also had some intriguing insights regarding murderers in the real world, even if those insights were founded in the supernatural. Having scenes with evidence and questioning and cross-examination would’ve been really interesting and cool to watch and would’ve been a unique and fresh direction for the Conjuring franchise. Unfortunately, TDMMDI goes way off the rails from this and takes a totally different approach that for me doesn’t work. Another issue with this movie is that it just isn’t that scary. The horror in this movie is a big step down from the previous two movies. There were a few moments where my heart raced for a second or a I jumped a little in my seat, but not enough to justify this being a Conjuring movie. The first two were terrifying, and because this one wasn’t it felt really boring at times and like a drag; this is something I do blame Chaves for because he did have control over how the scenes looked in the final product and he could’ve upped the ante on the horror. But, Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga were the highlights of this movie and what made it watchable for me. They give great performances yet again as the Warrens and really carry this film from start to finish, and Chaves does a nice job of capitalizing on their chemistry and even giving us a look into their past. Wilson and Farmiga are great actors and I hope to see them again in the Conjuring universe.… Expand

its not scary at all there are scenes where i giggled a little but that was it the rest was spent in boredom even my brother who is scared easily at these types of movies wasnt scared

This is NOT Conjuring. It's a joke. Not gonna rage, it doesn't deserve that. But, still, I'm disappointed. Not after The Nun, that was a mess. A garbage. But Annabelle 2, and Conjuring 2 were great!
