Bogie's considerable charisma is visibly weakened by his tired appearance, and the strong cast is never really allowed full rein by Dmytryk, whose abiding concern that fair play be seen to be done, with regard to all the characters' various motivations, makes for a stodgily liberal courtroom drama.

Excellent film de mutinerie qui n'est pas sans rappeler un certain Bounty (celui des années 80, mon préféré), car comme un agent d'assurance, il répartit les torts dans les deux camps, celui de l'équipage un brin jean-foutre (il faut bien le dire) et celui du capitaine... assez frappadingueExcellent film de mutinerie qui n'est pas sans rappeler un certain Bounty (celui des années 80, mon préféré), car comme un agent d'assurance, il répartit les torts dans les deux camps, celui de l'équipage un brin jean-foutre (il faut bien le dire) et celui du capitaine... assez frappadingue à tendance fortement paranoïaque (il faut bien le dire... aussi). Bien sûr, on a un léger doute sur le dédouanement du Capitaine, assez appuyé à la toute fin, afin -sans doute- de brosser la Navy dans le sens du poil... car, diantre, on ne voudrait pas laisser entendre que la glorieuse Navy américaine a dans ses rangs des commandants un tantinet cinglés...

Pour autant, il est important d'apporter un éclairage humain à la personnalité de ce Capitaine maniaque et obsessionnel, concomitamment à l'interprétation magistrale d'Humphrey Bogart qui campe ici un type au bout du rouleau dont la parano n'est que l'un des symptômes les plus prégnants. Et cela, le film le fait très bien.

Passionnant à suivre, cet Ouragan montre également la parano des officiers à l'égard de la parano du capitaine : une double parano qui s'entretient réciproquement : certainement un cas d'école... On peut regretter néanmoins les passages de l'andouille principale avec sa morue, des passages inutiles dont on a rien à cirer ; on déplore aussi cette musique patriotique de défilé très con qui revient sans arrêt... pour faire plaisir à la glorieuse Navy sans doute.

En tout cas, un film percutant et... souvent drôle également, car plus on est de fous, plus on rit sur le bateau ivre !… Expand
