If you love Sacha Baron Cohen and have seen all his movies and know what type of jokes and stupidness to expect, you know that this will be the movie for you! Yes it has some quite weird moments, but they are funny, crazy funny even anyway, so whatever! I don't know what type of humour others here, who maybe haven't seen Borat, Bruno, Dictator or Ali G expect, I mean it's straight outta that alley, so if you liked those, you will enjoy this (even if it is a bit stupid, but I mean Ali G was too for example). Cohen just knows how to make movies that can offend people or make people think how dumb they are, even though they are still funny Expand

Cohen againBalls, elephant dicks, anal invasions: These are the kinds of things that Sacha Baron Cohen thinks are funny these days. Although the action is dynamically directed by Louis Leterrier, the comedy gags are almost all dreadful. Cohen again plays an buffoon (with terrible hair) who's spent 28 years searching for his brother, who turns out to be an MI6 agent. Their misadventures take them on a fast-paced romp to save the world (what else?). With the exception of a few throwaway lines, almost all of the humor is broad, stupid and not funny. The best thing about this movie is the running time (81 min). And if you insist on seeing it, at least stay thru the credits for one final joke. Expand

This is the best sustained comedy since last year’s ‘Trainwreck’. Definitely not a must see for the easily offended or for those who like their comedy sophisticated, but for everyone else Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest envelope pushing exercise in bad taste is a lot better than its marketing would suggest. A few of the actors (notably McShane and Cruz) are underused and the child hood flashbacks add little, but otherwise this audacious conceit will put a smile on your face unless, maybe, you live in Grimsby! The re-titling for the U S market is redundantly misleading. Expand

Sacha Baron Cohen is one of the most outrageously funny comedians to exist in the 21st century and his films constantly bring something fresh to the table, Grimsby is no exception.
No holds barred comedy is SBC's forte and with experienced action-director Louis Leterrier at the helm, Grimsby offers a by-the-numbers action film spliced with layers of comedy gold. However, this gold comes in slightly faecal coloured nuggets and is not recommended for those with a disposition for the finer things in life.
Mark Strong's performance as an MI6 agent on the run is the perfect foil for SBC's compassionate, family-driven, working class layabout and the chemistry of these two carry the entire film.
This generic action film/spy movie parody is elevated by SBC's creativity and balls-to-the chin comedy and is a must see for any fans of his previous work.

Terrible film.... Baron Cohen offers up nothing original and just uses the (lame) narrative to throw in as many jokes about sex, or offer up never ending amounts of extremely offensive stereotyping...
If you like the idea of 2 men hiding inside an elephant's vagina to evade the bad guys but, before they can get/climb out, they find themselves trying to avoid an elephant's penis..... Before getting covered in a gallon of elephant ejaculate.... Yes, it's that level of humour folks, and you'll probably be laughing all the way through the entire movie.
Myself.... I don't find that amusing, nor am I offended by the other 'edgy' jokes which intersperse the film... However, I dislike cheap-shots masquerading as humour, especially when you have seen what Baron Cohen has been able to do in his earlier films.

The Brothers Grimsby is about a MI-5's top spy and has just stumbled upon a threat that could endanger the entire world. Nobby is a hooligan in Grimsby - thickheaded and rough - and the estranged younger brother to Sebastian. Nobby has the great idea to finally reunite - not knowing this unexpected family reunion could very well decide the fate of the entire world.

So I've seen Grimsby about a week ago now (it takes me long to gather my thoughts), and I thought it was alright. If you like offensive humor, gross out scenes and absurd content, then this movie is likely for you. Sacha Baron Cohen dose he's usual thing of playing different characters and that's always enjoyable to watch, and he dose it again in this movie. There were a lot of parts in this movie that I did find funny that some people might not, but everyone has different taste in comedy's. Movies like this I normally wouldn't like or enjoy, but it did surprise me.

Grimsby isn't as clever or well written as Borat & Bruno, because those movies do have a clever hidden joke that some people may not get. For the most part, this movie was very predictable when it came to the story and the characters. Penélope Cruz and Ian McShane didn't do anything special in the movie.

Overall Grimsby (or The Brothers Grimsby) is a decent comedy that might not be everyone's type of film.

It's as if everyone involved realized for the first time in movie history that "oh hey, they got the synopsis from the trailers. We can just start it with the ball already rolling." Obviously there are moments detailing the cause of the brothers separation, but they paced nicely throughout the movie as opposed to crammed into the beginning for a slow ramp up. The result is a comedy that starts off crazy and doesn't stop.

It's a outright laugh riot. The plot doesn't hold up as well as the jokes with it's predictable spy themes and all that, but it ultimately doesn't matter too much. It avoids the spy parody angle I thought it was going to go for and it's all the better for it. It's just flat out, outrageous humor.

It does occasionally get too nasty and immature at times, but for the most part I found myself laughing at even it's lowest moments of comedic intelligence. Cohen and Strong have fantastic chemistry. The rest of the cast is basically just there for the occasional gag, but I still got a kick out of seeing some familiar faces.

It's just a great comedy that's filled with laughs. There's even some great action sequences that are first-person that are really cool to witness. The plot falls a bit short and the morals it tries to squeeze in there at the end fall flat, but at the end of the day it's all about the jokes. In that department these brothers deliver in spades. Stupid, nasty, and hilarious spades.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the kind of film one should expect from Sacha Baron Coen at this point. The film follows the brothers Noby and Graves as they try to stop an evil plot to unleash a virus to "decrease the surplus population". With a few gags and some misunderstandings the brothers must put aside their differences in order to save the day. This enjoyment one can have from this movie solely depends on the viewer's tolerance of Coen's pop-culture- crude sense of humor. The gags are hit and miss with some giving more laughs than others. The opening gag with the bed in the store got a few chuckles out of me and the names of Noby's children (one named Skeletor). The trailer thankfully didn't spoil the best gags much like how most comedy s nowadays do so. The one scene that actually surprised me was the infamous elephant breeding scene. It is crude but it has impressive technical and effects behind it (considering the subject manner). One of the problems with the film were the flash back scenes. Although the child actors do an admirable job giving life to the young brothers, they feel out of place with the tone of the rest of the film. One scene is upbeat which immediately is cut by the scene when the brothers are separated which creates an emotional whiplash. The action sequences may have its fair share of shaky cam but some of the pov shots really immerse the viewer for a few moments. In conclusion "The brothers Grimsby" is worth some laughs although the humor is far from sophisticated it is a fum comedy that is worth your time. Expand

The film stars Baron Cohen, Mark Strong, Rebel Wilson, Isla Fisher, Annabelle Wallis, Gabourey Sidibe, Penélope Cruz, and Ian McShane. It was released by Columbia Pictures on 24 February 2016 in the United Kingdom and 11 March 2016 in the United States.

--Filming:

-Principal photography of the film commenced on 4 June, at North Weald railway station, and around the Epping Forest area in Essex, England. The shooting lasted for six weeks in the UK and then moved to South Africa. On 3 July, comedian Eric Idle tweeted a photo from the set with Baron Cohen. On 10–11 July, Baron Cohen was filming Grimsby in Tilbury, which was turned into 1980s Grimsby. On 14 July, Baron Cohen and Strong were spotted filming some scenes for the film in the streets. A number of residents of Grimsby were angry with Baron Cohen portraying their town as a rubbish-strewn, violent ghetto in which drunks urinate from windows and mothers hand children cans of beer in the street.

--Critical response:

-On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a rating of 38%, based on 114 reviews, with an average rating of 4.7/10. The site's consensus reads, "The Brothers Grimsby showers viewers with a steady stream of Sacha Baron Cohen's edgy humor, but too many gags hit the wrong side of the line between audacious and desperate." Metacritic gave the film a score of 44 out of 100, based on 34 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews". Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "B+" on an A+ to F scale.

Sometimes a movie can be so bad that it's actually kind of fun to watch or there's at least something diverting enough about it to find something to enjoy. That's not the case here.

This is the worst movie I've seen this year, and I haven't been particularly discriminating in what movies I've watched.

Do not watch in the company of someone that wants to maintain any sort of dignity or intelligent demeanor. It's really just gross. Without the gross homour it could have easily been a 6 or 7/10, but it's there unfortunately. Do not watch in company. I myself stopped watching at the elephant scene. I wish I hadn't seen that. The difference this time is that he REALLY wants to make you laugh, and he wants you to know it. Sadly, though, that's the precise reason why this movie ends up lacking so much in a comedic light. When the first joke comes along to push the envelope -- so to speak -- it's shocking, but ultimately funny in a sort of "I can't believe what I'm watching" kind of way. But when the next few jokes come along -- with many of them trying to push the envelope in a manner similar to the first joke -- you start to realize that the talents at hand are just overtly trying too hard to make you laugh. It ruins the fun. Again, it's good to see effort on display, but at a certain point, I'm going to grow tired of seeing you try and out outdo yourself time and time again. Expand

These brothers joining hands mean the world is in trouble.

I thought it might be a spin off to 'The Man from UNCLE', but it wasn't. From the action-thriller director known for 'Transporter' films and this is his first comedy, yet it has some great stunts. It is about the two brothers who meets after a lot time separation. Now they're two opposite kinds, professionally and socially. So coming together means trouble is inevitable wherever they go in the world. Against all the odds how they accomplish their task that forced them to do it is the rest of the film.

If you like Sacha's trademark comedies, you might like it as well. Like always his part was excellent in this, especially jokes were very hilarious. Though the story was weak, but the rest of the film was not bad. The overall film leaned on its comedies and that's how the narration somewhat successfully carried out till the end. An enjoyable film, but you might hesitate to rate higher, because this is not the best film of the year, definitely not for me, I've seen a lot better ones.

Besides, Mark Strong was amazing. He was always been a co-star, but here he's equal to Sacha and he did some good stunts as well. I think the film is passable, because it is one of the recent decent comedy. I can suggest it for those who're seeking some laughs. It might won't bring the loud ones, but surely will raise your cheeks. The film is for adults for the R rated jokes, there are some unexpected scenes that I was surprised for them. I enjoyed it and I'm sure I won't remember it for very long, that kind of film it is.

Sacha Baron Cohen can be very hit and miss. When he hits he can be brilliant such as his Borat! Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan and when he misses? Well, we have Bruno.

In the non-mockumentary category The Dictator was a fairly fun and a surprisingly funny romp and now we have the follow-up miss. The Brothers Grimsby is simply awful. Cohen and his clan of characters are so utterly unlikeable and the gross-out jokes so forced it simply is painful to watch.

Gross out comedy can work. Borat’s naked wrestling scene is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. That movie earned its gross-out scene which came from the characters interactions. This movie forces ridiculous scenario after ridiculous scenario in a bizarre game of one-upmanship.

As for the characters. Well, the idea of James Bond having an incompetent simpleton brother following him around has good comedic potential. Cohen’s character and those he surrounds himself with are simply unlikable and not a group one want to spend any time around.

Sentimental about the classless freeloading scum and gross beyond the point of funny The Brothers Grimsley is a chore to even watch.

Hilarious movie. One scene I lol on. It involved elephants. But the story was relatively weak and a over simplistic plot, but it was Funny. If your a fan of Sacha's films you'll enjoy it

Liam Gallagher: Agente Secreto"

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's not a GREAT movie, but I disagree a bit with those who say it's a complete time-wasting piece of garbage. The jokes weren't THAT bad, some were actually pretty funny and smart (like the final Donald Trump is not HIV positive one). Watch this on a weekend when you're really bored (and when your kid isn't present), there's a good chance you won't hate it. Expand

Not a bad film, but not exactly good either. Most of the jokes/references were funny, but the gross out stuff was too much, even for my tastes.

A completely wrong film on all levels, hey, that's an achievement.

The Brothers Grimsby

Louis Leterrier is an experienced action director. There is no action in this film. None. Usually whenever I dive in on Sacha Baron Cohen's maniacal film, I try and give him the credit at first. But now that he doesn't have his home team in his pocket. I could see the effect that it casts him and us, investing in this film. The project is light, lazy and effortful. Light as in the jokes are staged- just as the loud and cheesy elements that might help the characters later- and can actually be seen far before it punches, by then it is not funny. It is disappointing. Lazy, as in you'd think that the humor that he has based his fame on would evolve in say.. I don't know, a decade!

Effortful as in, at the end of the day, Sacha is a witty comedian and he understands that it is not working and hence all the sketchy sequences reeks of desperation. Desperation to pull off something inedible, offensive, out of the box and just straight out wrong. Another thing I cannot stop myself from noticing was the cast. Sacha has got a big cast. He is a big name. He has a responsibility under his name and peer pressure to respect his fame.

And no, it has not made him sober, he is still high on his dark humorous vocab that made him who he is. But there is something definitely missing, that I cannot put my finger on. He is unstable, surely and incredibly dutiful on passing a major theme. Speaking of which, usually the crass jokes are weighed in by a nuanced eye opening message. But in this espionage comic thriller, even that too is missing. The Brothers Grimsby looks like a tell tale of his, Sacha's, own filmography, I'd rather go back to Borat who was so 2006.

Also, the comedy in this one is pretty good but there's some scenes where it doesn't in my opinion. Finally, the movies got a great choice of songs throughout which was good and some really fun fight scenes throughout and all. My only negatives which I honestly had with this movie would have to be the flashbacks with Nobby (Sacha Baron Cohen) and Sebastian (Mark Strong) in their younger years. Also, the **** elephant scene, it's honestly so weird and horrible to watch and yeah, I know it's meant to be but what was the point in it, it just creeped me out for the most part lol. Finally, don't get me started about that terribly done Donald Trump scene, oh my **** god. Overall, it's got some good laughs throughout and some of the others can be very hit and miss in my opinion, I enjoyed this one more than the dictator I'll give you that lol. Expand
