Another action packed movie. This movie is awesome because it's mostly all action. I also like how it literally picks up right where part 2 left off.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a pretty fast action and suspenseful thriller movie. It, of course, follows a similar pattern to the previous two Bourne movies, with the focues being on both Jason Bourne and his mission to find out where everything started and who he is and the CIA team, desperately using all available means to track him down.

While I wasn't so keen on the previous movie, The Bourne Supremacy, I felt that this one was better. There is more action and it felt more suspenseful. There's lots of edgy, shaky camerawork, to add to the 'on edge' atmosphere of the movie.

The story itself is, as ever, fairly complex, so you'll beed to concentrate quite well to fully follow it and I wouldn't recommend that you watch this if you have no knowledge of the books and haven't seen the previous movies, it probably wouldn't make much sense, so thats worth bearing in mind too.

The movie itself isn't just set in Russia and England, its also set in other countries, including Morocco and the US. There are some nice landscape shots and plenty to see during the chase scenes, including a pretty cool chase scene where Jason is on a motorbike, trying to chase somebody through the narrow streets. There's also a chase scene over the roofs of many houses in Morocco and a pretty exciting car chase scene (which is more like a destruction derby!) in New York too.

While there are new characters present in this movie, there are also some familiar faces that return, including Nicky Parsons (played by Julia Stiles). One of the new characters is Pamela Landy (played by Joan Allen), who works with the CIA and I thought that its interesting the different approach that she had to the mission, wanting to bring him back in alive, rather than to 'eliminate him' like her colleagues wanted (of course this would have nothing to do with the fact that Matt Damon can be pleasing to the female eye, im sure! lol).

This is another decent Bourne movie, which is very fast paced and features multiple settings and chase scenes. The story, while somewhat complicated and you do really need to have seen the other movies to make any proper sense of it, is, as a continued story, alright, its the action that kept me watching though, the story did feel slightly confused in between it all.

Overall, its a good suspenseful thriller, with some interesting characters, a good dose of action and some very good chase scenes in some interesting settings. This feels like quite a high quality movie and so it is well worth a watch.

Paul Greengrass remains firmly in the director's chair, continuing his work, begun in the previous film. Another name that remains is Tony Gilroy, who remains responsible for the script and ensures the logical coherence of the film and its relationship with its direct predecessors.

The script begins with a journalist's attempts to denounce Operation Blackbriar, a remake of the fearsome Treadstone. Jason Bourne is contacted and, realizing that that journalist was being followed by CIA operatives and is in danger of his life, decides to help him escape, without success. From here, we have Bourne again in a race to escape the US agents as they attempt to kill him, convinced he is a threat to his agency's activities.

I really liked the movie, but I confess, I felt some difficulty in adhering to the story. The beginning is somewhat far-fetched, it sounds forced and, in many ways, far-fetched, as if the film needed some pretext for Jason Bourne to be hunted again by secret agents. However, from the moment this is achieved, the film develops very well and the story gets better and more immersive. The action and chase scenes are really intense. Greengrass has his own style of directing and will make the best of it, highlighting the film's most frantic and intense moments.

The cast is, again, headed by Matt Damon, who remains impeccable in the role of Bourne, a character who earned him a deserved acclaim. It is worth seeing this film to appreciate the talent with which the actor, who is far from being one of my favorites, extricates himself from the challenges that lie ahead. Julia Styles is another actress that the film takes advantage of its predecessors, and who knows in this film an increased protagonism and relevance, by virtue of the way the script uses her character. Albert Finney and Joan Allen developed as the script took advantage of their characters. In fact, one of the flaws of this film is the way it wastes the talent of the supporting actors, never giving any real material and screen time to any of them.

Technically, it's an entirely action-oriented film: cinematography tries to use the usual quick editing tricks to make action scenes even more intense, and handheld camera shooting, with its shaky frames, makes motion even more noticeable. And sometimes tiring and irritating. The careful choice of the locations where the filming took place proved to be a happy investment, knowing how to make the best of a series of magnificent places where the story unfolds. The soundtrack is also very good, but nothing particularly new.

Sometimes I wonder, how did not Matt Damon win an Oscar for this film. Also director Paul Greengrass' shaky camera work is still very much unique to this day. And this film has the best chase sequence and the best hand to hand combat sequence I've ever seen. And the story wraps up the Jason Bourne trilogy on a high note, it's a very satisfying conclusion.. Full awesome action that thanks to it's great editing and directing, is easy to follow despite all the shaky cam and quick cutting (the amazing fight between Bourne and Desh is a huge step up from the headache inducing kitchen fight from Supremacy).

Small moments like Bourne repeating The Professor's line at the end and the implication that he and Nicky may have been in a relationship before Treadstone give this movie and its predecessors a lot more weight and emotion on rewatches.

I haven't seen Legacy and it's been forever since I've seen Jason Bourne (though I don't remember liking it that much), so I might watch them too, but honestly, as a trilogy, this is one of the best. Each entry is better than the last one and it has one hell of an ending. More sequels were not needed.

While the shaky cam can certainly be a bit too much at times, the film is just so well done otherwise that it is impossible to ignore. Matt Damon turns in a traditionally top-notch performance in his famed role as CIA assassin Jason Bourne. However, the direction from Paul Greengrass is what takes centerstage. Well paced, thrilling, and well told the film is never hard to follow, which is impressive. For many action spy films, the number of moving parts can become truly overwhelming. Under Greengrass' assured direction, however, this is never a problem. Instead, the story is coherent and truly entertaining. As with the other Bourne films, the action is stylish and well choreographed and firmly establishes Mr. Bourne as a man you do not want to encounter. Overall, The Bourne Ultimatum is a thrilling and brilliantly executed film that improves upon its predecessors in the Bourne trilogy. Expand

I do have to agree with some who want Oliver Wood shot (cinematography indeed choppy) and the direction could have been better (showing parts of a characters face from the back of an others head does not make things more realistic especially when it's done over and over again). The ending didn't reveal much but who cares? and, of course, it is left open for a possible 4th part.

The film stars Matt Damon and starts up where the previous film ("The Bourne Supremacy") left off. To start off, "Ultimatum" had big shoes to fill - "Identity" set the proverbial bar for the franchise and "Supremacy" raised this bar. Does "Ultimatum" live up to the expectations that it was assigned? In short. . .yeah. . .yeah it does. "Ultimatum" is an expertly crafted film that takes every facet of the first two films and elevates them to an exponential degree. I honestly did not believe the claim that these movies got better with each installment. But, hey, seeing is believing I guess. Just when I thought that Matt Damon's portrayal of Bourne was multifaceted enough, he adds more complicated and compelling layers to this character in "Ultimatum" - I mean, layers upon layers of Bourne are presented throughout this film. If you thought that you had gained a strong emotional attachment to Bourne via the first two movies, well see the third because Damon just blasts expectations with this performance. This performance and the overall film as a whole, is built up by the brilliantly written screenplay by Tony Gilroy. This script is the fulcrum of the film. It's brisk dialogue and precious I-Can't-Believe-That-Just-Happened moments make the film that much more amusing as a whole. One of my favorite aspects of the entire Bourne franchise is the score. Whether it's John Powell's fast-paced music or Moby's stylish trademark song "Extreme Ways", the recurring musical elements really help to embed the film into the audience's head. Paul Greengrass' impressive direction is once again a masterstroke aspect of this film's massive appeal. I would say that, in the end, "The Bourne Ultimatum" surpassed my expectations and lifted the franchise to unfathomable heights. Expand

I remembered watching this in the cinema back in 2007, without watching the first two movies. I couldn't understand what the hell was happening. Five years later, this is the best movie in the series, for me. The opening chase sequence was a highlight. But again, this franchise is just not for me.

A lot of elements are recycled from that movie albeit without the same the sense of furious despair that made Supremacy such a thrilling ride. The Bourne Ultimatum does have it's plus points in the form of some great action scenes; the battle in Morrocco and the London Waterloo escapade are both truly excellent sequences. Overall, The Bourne Ultimatum is a descent movie but it doesn't live up to it's classic prequel. Expand

From beginning to end there is never a dull moment, mixing thrilling chases, clever escapes, and more story than usually exists in ten thrillers into two hours of excellence. The plot is intricate yet believable, and one of the best I've seen. I particularly loved how it incorporated so many elements of its predecessors, my favorite being Jason's final quote; a reference to what I remember as being one of Identity's finest moments. I personally like the cinematography; it fits the film. Matt Damon is once again amazing in his role, as well as the rest of the returning cast from the first two and the new characters. And it wraps up in style, with a brief cliffhanger and one of the best movie themes I've ever heard. Expand

The Bourne Identity and Supremacy where amazing but Ultimatum blows them out them water. It raises the bar and set's the standards for all spy, espionage, federal agent franchises - whatever you want to call them the likes of Bond, Bauer and McClane all have some serious work to do. This film picks up from the previous outing with Bourne escaping the authorities and on the run however he inadvertently becomes the target of Operation Blackbriar - a Treadstone upgrade whilst working with a London based journalist. Information from the reporter brings back new sets of memories for Bourne as he finally intends upon finding out about his dark past and who he truely is whilst evading a new ruthless breed of assassin leading to a phenominal finale in the final installment of a tremednous trilogy! This film has everything action from start to finish, superb suspense and a real thriller once more showcasing just how good a recipe it is with Paul Greengrass directing and Matt Damon in awesome form as Jason Bourne. Most of the action scenes are edited in short bursts that you can't tell what's going on the half the time & you're glad when they're over.
The ending is pretty good but a bit of a let down after the first two decent films.

And this is just what is capable of keeping you going on with Matt Damon's tense. There're not many action sequences in the whole film in fact, or what you call fight sequences. Pretty a lot are foot chases or Bourne's tricks to help Ross (a role in the film) run away from CIA agents. However, these non-action sequences are still able to make the viewers fell excited. Near the end of the film there's a car chase, which ends in a similar way that the one in Supremacy did. It's okay but it's not as good. The foot chase on the rooftop in Moroco and the hand-to-hand martial combat between Bourne and Desh afterwards is no doubt the highlight of the entire movie. Like its predecessor, Bourne's intelligence is still the main worth-watching point, which is also the major factor that makes the story brilliant. The major flaw is the camera work, which shakes all the time. It made the car chase hard to see (it's hard to tell how many cars were involved there and which car bumped into which). But the hand-to-hand combats are still okay enough with the shaky camera, unlike that one in the apartment in Supremacy, where camera shakes too heavily. Expand

Damon's minimalist style coupled with director Greengrass's au naturale style are a virtuoso combination. The Bourne Ultimatum (and the Bourne series for that matter) is to the current Bond franchise what Batman Begins is to the old Batman franchise (Batman, Batman Forever, Batman and Robin, etc.). There is a clear difference in the quality, believability and style between them. It is refreshing to watch this film both because film-goers can now expect more from action films, and because (hopefully) lesser type action films will become less common because Ultimatum has raised the bar. A professional reviewer commented that after this final Bourne film, no other Bourne films should be made for two reasons-- 1) because Ludlum wrote only three books in the series, and 2) because inferior sequels shouldn't serve to denigrate the excellent job Ultimatum did to end the series. Prior to watching the film I agreed with this because I thoroughly respect and enjoy Ludlum's work (the initial reason I came to watch the first and subsequent Bourne films). But after watching Ultimatum, I must confess I've changed my mind simply because it would be a sizable loss for film-goers and film-makers alike if we all cannot see many more superbly made films such as Ultimatum.
