What makes it so engaging though is its die-hard commitment to "keeping it real" so to speak. He's about as far from the James Bonds of old or the John McCain's of forever as you can get. He is understated, subtle, and unlike other action stars who forget all character development once bombs start going off, Damon never breaks from his character's resistance to and confusion of his surroundings. Smart, never boring. See it. Expand

Lousy film snobs with superiority complex will give in occasional 1 and 2 (out of 10), but do not be bothered by them. This movie is easily the best of its genre in recent years.

I left the theatre satisfied. The ending was a little rushed, but that's about it. @ Pedro G. - I'm sorry, but your comments are ridiculous. All the movie was doing was asking how far a government should be willing to go in order to protect itself before it's morally unsound. Maybe you didn't catch it because you seem to be someone who sees the world in black and white shades and assumes everyone else does. Calling the director of this film as a Hollywood propagandist is laughable, especially considering he was accused of being a mindless Bush supporter last year when he directed "United 93". Expand

Not a wasted scene, tight action and script. No sentimentality in this action thriller. Best of the Bourne trilogy, they must end the series here since Bourne does not want to kill anymore.

Great action movie. It's amazing what can be done when good actors are used and scripts are kept focused. The chase sequences are nail-bitingly long and expertly paced. This is an excellent and appropriate closer to a top-notch action trilogy.

The plot is fast-paced and keeps you interested all the way through till the end, the action makes you go "Whoa! That was awesome!" and the acting is just plain good. I have been a fan of the Bourne films but Ultimatum is to me the best one and a great way to end the Bourne films. My only problem with the movie is that it goes on for too long at over 3 hours and it can get kind of boring at times but the action and story still make up for it and length is not a big problem at all. Overall The Bourne Ultimatum is an amazing movie that I would highly reccomend watching, yes it is long but the action, story, and acting will keep you enthralled till the end. Score: 8.5 out of 10. Full awesome action that thanks to it's great editing and directing, is easy to follow despite all the shaky cam and quick cutting (the amazing fight between Bourne and Desh is a huge step up from the headache inducing kitchen fight from Supremacy).

Small moments like Bourne repeating The Professor's line at the end and the implication that he and Nicky may have been in a relationship before Treadstone give this movie and its predecessors a lot more weight and emotion on rewatches.

I haven't seen Legacy and it's been forever since I've seen Jason Bourne (though I don't remember liking it that much), so I might watch them too, but honestly, as a trilogy, this is one of the best. Each entry is better than the last one and it has one hell of an ending. More sequels were not needed.

Greengrass and Damon really make this film--but Greengrass probably deserves a huge chunk of the credit. The action/suspense is very satisfying though the dialogue isn't the best (but it's spar, so it doesn't distract too much). The hand-held camera works well for most of what it's used for though I did get too jarred in the final car scene where he keeps the camera at the level of the headlights. I had to avert my eyes---which, honestly, almost never happens--maybe the Blair Witch project was the last time I had to look away from too much camera shaking/movement. I loved the end and was very glad it didn't feel dragged out or too long---at 2 hours, it's still tightly paced/edited--which also describes Damon's performance. As cinematic as these stories/films are--Damon is absolutely credible--he's what you think of in terms of special ops agents--something very sparse and efficient about him. This is definitely a must see in the theater and probably worth owning on DVD as it's just a great/entertaining film to watch (repeatedly). Expand

Much of the appeal of Bourne is the way he's bound by the normal rules of human existence: he's very strong, fast, and smart, but he's not superhuman. That was stretched a bit here - how many high-speed crashes can he walk away from without a scratch? The movie was at its best when Damon and Stiles shared quieter moments - reminiscent of Damon and his love interest in the first movie. I wanted more of that in between the undeniably impressive action scenes. Still, while not quite as good as 1 or 2, it remains a great action film for thinking people, far superior to most in the genre. Expand

It's a very fitting end to such an enjoyable trilogy. Solid acting by the cast, The movie is the perfect mix of action and story, The action itself is entertaining and fun to watch. It's simply a good film.

Excellent. From action and suspense, to plot and character development, The Bourne Ultimatum improves on everything that made the first two films great.

While the shaky cam can certainly be a bit too much at times, the film is just so well done otherwise that it is impossible to ignore. Matt Damon turns in a traditionally top-notch performance in his famed role as CIA assassin Jason Bourne. However, the direction from Paul Greengrass is what takes centerstage. Well paced, thrilling, and well told the film is never hard to follow, which is impressive. For many action spy films, the number of moving parts can become truly overwhelming. Under Greengrass' assured direction, however, this is never a problem. Instead, the story is coherent and truly entertaining. As with the other Bourne films, the action is stylish and well choreographed and firmly establishes Mr. Bourne as a man you do not want to encounter. Overall, The Bourne Ultimatum is a thrilling and brilliantly executed film that improves upon its predecessors in the Bourne trilogy. Expand

Greengrass ups the anti and gives us not only the most invigorating and engaging chapter yet, but explores character and new, more enticing storylines that lends to being a much more complete and ferocious Bourne film. Buckle up and enjoy.

Paul Greengrass remains firmly in the director's chair, continuing his work, begun in the previous film. Another name that remains is Tony Gilroy, who remains responsible for the script and ensures the logical coherence of the film and its relationship with its direct predecessors.

The script begins with a journalist's attempts to denounce Operation Blackbriar, a remake of the fearsome Treadstone. Jason Bourne is contacted and, realizing that that journalist was being followed by CIA operatives and is in danger of his life, decides to help him escape, without success. From here, we have Bourne again in a race to escape the US agents as they attempt to kill him, convinced he is a threat to his agency's activities.

I really liked the movie, but I confess, I felt some difficulty in adhering to the story. The beginning is somewhat far-fetched, it sounds forced and, in many ways, far-fetched, as if the film needed some pretext for Jason Bourne to be hunted again by secret agents. However, from the moment this is achieved, the film develops very well and the story gets better and more immersive. The action and chase scenes are really intense. Greengrass has his own style of directing and will make the best of it, highlighting the film's most frantic and intense moments.

The cast is, again, headed by Matt Damon, who remains impeccable in the role of Bourne, a character who earned him a deserved acclaim. It is worth seeing this film to appreciate the talent with which the actor, who is far from being one of my favorites, extricates himself from the challenges that lie ahead. Julia Styles is another actress that the film takes advantage of its predecessors, and who knows in this film an increased protagonism and relevance, by virtue of the way the script uses her character. Albert Finney and Joan Allen developed as the script took advantage of their characters. In fact, one of the flaws of this film is the way it wastes the talent of the supporting actors, never giving any real material and screen time to any of them.

Technically, it's an entirely action-oriented film: cinematography tries to use the usual quick editing tricks to make action scenes even more intense, and handheld camera shooting, with its shaky frames, makes motion even more noticeable. And sometimes tiring and irritating. The careful choice of the locations where the filming took place proved to be a happy investment, knowing how to make the best of a series of magnificent places where the story unfolds. The soundtrack is also very good, but nothing particularly new.

The Bourne-in-NY portion of the film wasn't as well done as the preceding portion...the element of realism that makes Bourne such a compelling hero was done away with completely with some of the stuff he was walking away from during the NY act (car falling backwards off a roof; the chase-ending car accident; the 10-story leap into the river). Also, was it just me or did the car chase end in exactly the same way as it did in "Supremacy", with one car t-boning the other into a concrete divider? The bike escpae in Tangier was much stronger. [***SPOILER***] Finally, I just felt that Pam Landy's actions in handling the Blackbriar report seemed out of character...I could have seen if she had gone somewhere else within the government (like Jack Ryan did at the end of Clear and Present Danger) to bring down the program, but proclaiming that "this is not what I signed up for" and going to the press seemed ridiculous. A couple of other things that cost this movie some points: 1) note that in the end of "Supremacy", when it shifts to NY, it's clearly not winter as was depicted during the NY portion of "Ultimatum"...some continuity would have been nice; 2) Bourne being chased on rooftops in Tangier by local police...where have we seen that before? Oh yeah...in The Living Daylights, a 007 film. As well done as that act was, it lacked some originality. Overall, very good espionage film, but could have been great if the NY act had been better. I think that with the shaky camera it works and doesn't work, depending on when it's used. In fight and action scenes it's great, but during normal conversations between characters it becomes cumbersome. Those who thought they shaky camera worked are correct, but so are those who say it didn't. It doesn't need to be in every scene. Identity didn't use it and it was a great movie. What ticked me off was when I'd have the back of some character's head covering 90 % of the screen and all I see is gray or black (if someone can give me a reason that this "technique" was absolutely necessary I'd be happy to listen). -The story was thinner this time (a lot thinner) and it was more action-oriented, which is great for most action movies with stupid plots, but with the Bourne series we expect a solid, intriguing story. -I really wanted to love it as much as the first two movies but was a bit disappointed. The ending was great (linking it back to the first movie with Bourne in the water and his rebirth, etc). But really, the only thing this movie was about was Bourne getting the last of his memory back and finding out what Blackbriar or whatever its called was. That's all he's after in this movie, but one plot element can't sustain a two-hour plus movie. -The action and chase scenes were good (nothing as spectacular as Identity's) and it's always nice to see Bourne outsmarting the entire US intelligence agencies (seriously, I'm not being sarcastic: it's not very believable and a bit cliche, but it's still fun to watch). -I wanted to really like the movie, but had to grudgingly admit it didn't live up to my high expectations. Third Bourne movie delivers a knock out blow. Fast, griping and taunt thriller/action film gives the audience possibly the best ride of the summer.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Matt Damon's stoic third turn as Jason Bourne but the film series is starting to slip into Jason Bourne becoming the American version of James Bond with political correctness thrown in. Realism has been the part that has distinguished the Bourne series from the James Bond films and every other action film. But with each movie Jason Bourne becomes more of a machine and less a human being. He's basically becoming James Bond or Jason Vorhees, an indestructible force. The Bourne Ultimatum moves quickly and grips the viewer into the story but slowly devolves as it continues. Bourne 3 is directly in line with Bourne 2 and partially Bourne 1 stories. Fanboys of the original two films can see how previous scenes from the first 2 films are revisited in this film. Which was incredibly cool. Great twist on the ending of Bourne 2 or seperate scene with the same knowledge of that scene but super cool either way. I have to rewatch it to be certain of which way it went.
Julia Stiles is great in this film as is Damon and Joan Allen and the head CIA honcho. As the filme is enhanced from the knowledge of the viewer of the previous 2 films it is also what the heck that wasn't hinted at in the previous 2 films dumb downed by screenplay. The not so subtle hint that Julia Stiles had a previous relationship with Bourne before got amnesia is not any where hinted at in the first 2 movies. She is actually prone killing him in 2 and in the subway tunnel scene when Bourne has a gun to her head would have probably mentioned it to save her life in 2. But still a great scene with her coloring her hair.
In my not expert opinion Paul Greengrass gets way to much credit for directing Bourne 2 and 3. Yes, he did a good job with 2 and 3 and Yes, i thought United 93 was the best picture of 2006. But Doug Liman was the creator of the this film version. In Bourne Identity he started the taunt exciting pacing and realistic action but still made Bourne human. Greengrass has turned Bourne into only a human weapon, a machine. Bourne Identity is still by far the best film in the series.
Two this series is starting to get very political. Bourne books are not political at all, actually treadstone is not an evil organization nor is the CIA. In Bourne ID, Jason Bourne is trying to find out who he is. Not Political. But by Bourne 3, Jason Bourne is not so subtly a political metaphor by a foreign director who thinks he understands America. Bourne symbolizes american power, a weapon that can be used to kill. The CIA bosses are the power brokers who decide who die. The sooldier, Bourne, doesn't even know why he was ordered to kill. Bourne is America waking up from his slumber(American public and soldiers) and saying he doesn't want to kill any more. It's not the soldiers who are evil but the men behind the scenes making the decision that American don't even know about that our evil. America needs to wake up to what it is doing. Cooper, Strahan and Cox all american Cia bosses are the villians in the series. It's the cia's fault and american politics who are causing the problems in the world. Nothing about the people who trying to kill americans. I was waiting for someone to hint that the cia was behind 911. Personally i think the cia should be trying to take out people who are trying to kill americans before they try again. I hope we have jason bourne working for the cia.
The Bourne Ultimatum plays into the Americans guilt with interfering into foreing affairs of other countries and Greengrass' fears of the power of American military weapons and their potential use. James Bond and the english who colonized half the world have no guilt about their foreign affairs so James Bond kills without conscious knowing he's doing his countries work. Jason Bourne lost his mind killing fo rhis country and regrets everything he's done symbolizing americans guilt over interfering in Iraq and rest of the world. It's anti-american values to interferr in foreign countries. And Greengrass' plays into that along with his personal fear of American power.

Back to the movie, if the whole movie is supposed to be the final chapter in a triology of who Bourne is why do we get so little incite into who his character was before ....all we get is a weak, unsatisfying conclusion. I hope we haven't seen the last of Jason Bounre and i hope the real Jason Bourne are still on the CIA and America's side.

I do have to agree with some who want Oliver Wood shot (cinematography indeed choppy) and the direction could have been better (showing parts of a characters face from the back of an others head does not make things more realistic especially when it's done over and over again). The ending didn't reveal much but who cares? and, of course, it is left open for a possible 4th part.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a pretty fast action and suspenseful thriller movie. It, of course, follows a similar pattern to the previous two Bourne movies, with the focues being on both Jason Bourne and his mission to find out where everything started and who he is and the CIA team, desperately using all available means to track him down.

While I wasn't so keen on the previous movie, The Bourne Supremacy, I felt that this one was better. There is more action and it felt more suspenseful. There's lots of edgy, shaky camerawork, to add to the 'on edge' atmosphere of the movie.

The story itself is, as ever, fairly complex, so you'll beed to concentrate quite well to fully follow it and I wouldn't recommend that you watch this if you have no knowledge of the books and haven't seen the previous movies, it probably wouldn't make much sense, so thats worth bearing in mind too.

The movie itself isn't just set in Russia and England, its also set in other countries, including Morocco and the US. There are some nice landscape shots and plenty to see during the chase scenes, including a pretty cool chase scene where Jason is on a motorbike, trying to chase somebody through the narrow streets. There's also a chase scene over the roofs of many houses in Morocco and a pretty exciting car chase scene (which is more like a destruction derby!) in New York too.

While there are new characters present in this movie, there are also some familiar faces that return, including Nicky Parsons (played by Julia Stiles). One of the new characters is Pamela Landy (played by Joan Allen), who works with the CIA and I thought that its interesting the different approach that she had to the mission, wanting to bring him back in alive, rather than to 'eliminate him' like her colleagues wanted (of course this would have nothing to do with the fact that Matt Damon can be pleasing to the female eye, im sure! lol).

This is another decent Bourne movie, which is very fast paced and features multiple settings and chase scenes. The story, while somewhat complicated and you do really need to have seen the other movies to make any proper sense of it, is, as a continued story, alright, its the action that kept me watching though, the story did feel slightly confused in between it all.

Overall, its a good suspenseful thriller, with some interesting characters, a good dose of action and some very good chase scenes in some interesting settings. This feels like quite a high quality movie and so it is well worth a watch.

In my opinion this film is the least of the Bourne trilogy. This entry provides a barely adequate end to the series. The frenetic action is not an adequate substitute for the lack of interesting human interactions. Julia Stiles is wooden and her brief interactions with Bourne are bland. Let's not encourage this kind of movie making where crashing cars trumps real human interactions. Expand

Movie is almost all energy, with too little substance. I would have happily done without some of the action, in exchange for more plot and character development. I would have happily done without some of the action, in exchange for more plot and character development. Actually, I could have done with less action, just to have Matt Damon come off more as a person, rather than some indestructible superman. Damon only does about 5 minutes of actual acting in this movie, and spends the rest of the movie either running around, or beating people up. I am also not a big fan of the jiggerly hand-hold camera technique, which are now so popular in action movies, and which this movie does to an extreme. Also, I am getting tired of the whole Jason Bourne character and concept. It was raw and fresh it the first movie, but has grown kind of stale. It might help if Matt Damon was better in the role. And he 's capable enough in it. I can't say he's bad in it. But I also can't say he's ever been exceptional in it. I can't say the role fits him like a glove, like you could say about Sean Connery/James Bond, Johnny Depp/Captain Jack Sparrow, Harrison Ford/ Indiana Jones, Mel Gibson/Marty Riggs, Bruce Willis/the die hard movies. If Matt Damon were replaced for Bourne Identity 4, I don't know that anyone would be that bothered, except for big Matt Damon fans. Still, if all it takes to entertain you are action movies stuffed with plenty of action, and which are not mind numbingly dumb, this should keep you entertained. Expand

What this family-friendly rating implies is that there won't be any scene so intense as to frighten or jolt you out of your seat. For example, if Jason Bourne points a gun directly into a man's face, the cynic in me says, "well, of course he Expand
