Intelligent, superbly stylish and most of all hilarious, The Big Short is a triumph for its outstanding cast and a game changer for director Adam McKay.

Smart ,educating , brilliant i love a whole of it.
Perfectly describe the human nature how colourful if the money and power walking into the picture and how lazy as well if they feel safe.
Of course i learned a lot what exactly happened back then.

It's not a movie for everyone; the financial terminology (which is an integral part of the storyline) may be difficult to understand. Even so, it's still a thoroughly entertaining movie driven by its compelling screenplay and stellar performances, particularly from Steve Carrell, Ryan Gosling, and Christian Bale. Expand

This is a brilliant biographical comedy-drama, with all 4 main actors working well to provide an entertaining narrative to the 2007/2008 financial crisis. Funny, shocking and provocative in all the right places.

A poker of aces -Bale, Carell, Gosling and Pitt- in the roles of the harbingers of doom whom predicted the financial catasthrope of 2008. The info talking may be confusing for the rookies but not boring. A shall to see.

The Big Short is smart, funny, timely, detailed, well-acted, confidently directed and delightfully unconventional. It's a relevant piece of filmmaking that demands multiple viewings.

This movie has lots of numbers and a complicated and precisely detailed plot that will bore some unless its presented in an entertaining way - And it is. Completely random famous celebrity cameo's come out of nowhere and explain certain things to us. However i felt that The Big Short did try maybe a little too hard to dumb it down for viewers. But one thing for sure is that the cast is AMAZING. Steve Carell, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling whose character although well-acted and entertaining just felt like he was there to be the narrator. He breaks the fourth wall a lot, and so do a lot of other characters. Sometimes it works but not always.
My biggest flaw would be the direction; It has a documentary-style, and is designed to look unproffesional. Sometimes it works really well in movies like City Of God, and here it does work at times, but overall it just got on my nerves and felt a little gimmicky.
Overall i thought The Big Short was a very good movie that made me care about banking while watching it. It's quite entertaining and has a magnificent cast, and i'm going to give it an 8/10.

It has some great performances and some very intelligent scenes, and it conveys it's subject very efficiently. It's not for everyone, I'll say that, because it really doesn't follow the traditional style of films, but it is definitely worth a watch. Expand

The Big Short is a film that deserves to be seen.

More or less, most people in the US and Europe suffered with that. The film focuses entirely on the way it all started: the American housing bubble, the way greedy banks were ignoring danger signals in order not to compromise profits, and the way a very small group of economists and speculators realized, with some time to prepare themselves, what would happen, and the repercussions that such a big bubble would have for the whole world.

The film is good, but it is very complex and on a theme that will not please everyone. The economy, with all its own professional slang, is not something that comes to our mind when we think of entertainment. Even so, the script did an excellent job by trying to create a story over a seemingly indigestible topic and making a remarkable effort to explain everything in an easy-to-understand way. The subplots have been used very well and help to make the film appear to have more stories to tell than it actually has.

The cast is good and full of actors that we easily recognize from other works. For me, the two most notable artists present here are Christian Bale and Steve Carrell. Both did good jobs, giving life to two economists portrayed in an unorthodox way: one is an amateur drummer and an unconditional hard rock fan; the other is conflicted and easily gets into trouble and arguments. Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt also did a good job on this film, although their characters are relatively unremarkable.

Technically, the film has immense quality points: it has a good cinematography, with well-achieved colors and excellent light. The sets and costumes do not disappoint, but neither are they surprising. The pace of the film is relatively fast and the feeling that prevails is that it is necessary to review some parts of the film to fully understand what is going on.

I love how this movie tries to dumb down the complicated ecomics to the point of literally using Jenga blocks to explain them and I still have no **** idea what anyone's talking about. It's like I'm watching Primer all over again.

This movie really creates a sense of impendending doom, and I really like how it gets more and more serious as it goes on. The editing is incredibly jarring but feels very on purpose.

All the actors are great here, especially Steve Carrell. He's the best of cast. Brad Pitt in this film is a 2020 mood. Christian Bale is my spirit animal. Ryan Goslin reminded me of Jeff Winger from Community for some reason. He pretty much calls the audience a little **** for the whole movie and honestly, I'm ok with that

I think that, despite an overall well performing cast, that successfully mirrors the personalities of the eccentric characters depicted in Lewis's original story, there are some flaws related to the evolution of the plot, and the progressive disclosure of Wall Street's fraudulent system: some details are left apart (I'm referring to what happened to Househould, or the first Ninety's bubble that involved Eisman/Baum); CDS and CDO are explained only superficially, and if the audience is not informed of the fact that the subprime mortgage system pivoted on palming responsibility off investment banks' clients, something may not balance. The epilogue is quite weak too, and doesn't fully stress the repercussion of the collapse of Wall Street on the individuals (not only the common people, but those who detained actions and titles in the failed banks). However, a good point has to be given on the "performing" part: Gosling was superb in interpreting Lippmann/Vennett, and the same can be said to Steve Carell and Christian Bale. Definitely suggested. I got lost in it myself a few times, although it's cool that the film tries to explain some of the ambiguities in a slightly funny way. Still, it's quite a mess. That's all there is to it. So if you know your stuff and are interested in what was going on in the world economy at the time, then a cool movie for you. For others, I would rather not recommend it. I, although I didn't know my way around here and there, was quite entertained and for me a good film. Expand

The style of this movie threw me off but at the same time it gave a personal feel. I got the feeling that they were trying to expose the crisis of 2008. Appreciate the variety in characters.

Incredible cinematography and an all-star cast are accompanied by a film that feels a little tiring to watch at times, leaving you waiting for the climax again and again. From a cinematic standpoint, I feel as though it relies on the all-star quality cast too much at times, with Bale, Gosling, Pitt, and particularly Carell providing excellent performances. I'm a fan of Adam McKay, particularly his strategy for cinematography and design. However, unlike my support for the pacing of later film Vice, there were times where I (an avid "fan" of investing, the stock market, economics) was hoping the film would push the pace. Timing aside, The Big Short is both one of the greatest finance films of all time, as well as one of the greatest films of 2015. Expand

It took an extremely complex financial crisis that changed the world as we know it and explained it in an easy way while keeping it really entertained. The separation fo 4 parts were well done especially the screenplay considering how there were 4 and they managed to keep us hooked up to the main 3. The acting too was incredible and the casting was spot on. However many parts were just left behind and it may have felt over-complicated in many scenes for an average joe even with the explanations (which were needed :)). But other than the minor flaws took a complex concept into a great movie. Well done Expand
