It falls short? Yes, but not for lack of intent but because it would be impossible to encapsulate in less than two hours a 50-year old career, but for a fan like me, it was quite enjoyable.

It may not be an epic documentary, but I enjoyed
It falls short? Yes, but not for lack of intent but because it would be impossible to encapsulate in less than two hours a 50-year old career, but for a fan like me, it was quite enjoyable.

It may not be an epic documentary, but I enjoyed it, and ultimately, that's what counts.

"The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart," the music documentary directed by Frank Marshall about Iconic band The Bee Gees, shines when sharing so much of the brilliant and successful music of The Brothers Gibb, much of the film"The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart," the music documentary directed by Frank Marshall about Iconic band The Bee Gees, shines when sharing so much of the brilliant and successful music of The Brothers Gibb, much of the film narrated by the sole survivor of the band, lead singer and songwriter Barry Gibb, proving that their music is truly timeless. But, I found the film faltered by not diving deeper into the struggles of the band, including only a brief spot focusing on their early breakup, no mention of Bee Gees starring in the 1978 Robert Stigwood produced, failed musical film, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," and short on the brothers various struggles over the years with addictions, leading to the losses of brothers Andy (1988), Maurice (2003) and Robin (2012), briefly focused in the film. I didn't really feel like I learned anything new about The Brothers Gibb from the documentary that I didn't already know. Still, the documentary thrives by including all the iconic, great music and I especially enjoyed what director Frank Marshall shared on The Bee Gees early Miami years, Criteria Recording Studios and the Gibb Brothers tremendous contribution to the Miami Sound and the Disco Era. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Beautiful, poignant and electrifying; "The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" is the music documentary of the year and one that is about your songs that have long been bigger than your life itself.

This documentary explores the facets of the Bee Gees' history, with some never-before-seen footage and interviews with Sir Barry Gibb "the last man standing" and archival interviews with the late twin brothers Robin and Maurice.

The documentary tells the story of the Brothers Gibb, from their beginning in Australia to the unforgettable Sixties as they emulated their idols the Beatles, the painful separation and their grandiose comeback as pioneers of the disco sound to innovative studio technology and the invention of the drum loop.

Frank Marshall has created a period document with never-before-seen concert footage from the 1979 Spirit Having Flown Tour, and the scenes that unfold in the studio are some of the most unforgettable moments in music history.

This documentary will leave everyone reminiscing about the much-loved band and, by extension, your childhood, but will also take younger viewers on a journey they won't soon forget. An honest and heartbreaking look at the history of the Brothers Gibb and their genius as one of the best songwriters in music history, equal with Lennon/McCartney.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To make a two hour documentary on The Bee Gees and not even have one sentence of narration mentioning the Sgt Pepper movie is absurd. To instead spend 15 minutes blaming their commercial decline on disc jockeys is disingenuous to the point of falsehood. Expand
