Cheap feminist propaganda does not allow us to revise this creation
If Cameron had a goal to bury the franchise completely, then he coped with his work on a solid 10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’m sorry Tim Miller, I’m sorry James Cameron. But seriously, what were you guys thinking?! Thank you guys, thank you for ruining T2, one of the greatest films ever. In the beginning, you guys decided to take out John Connor. Words couldn’t describe how much I hated that, and also it completely destroyed the purpose of the T-800 being terminated in T2, and is just such a middle finger who have been big fans of the franchise for years. Then you just decided to replace a relatable, great, character, with some random Mexican girl named Dani. Why? Plus, a new terminator! Rev-9! He wasn’t interesting, but was alright I guess. Also Arnold Schwarzenegger (T-800) and Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor) are back, but Arnold is some ‘happy, funny, family guy’, and Sarah is a raging and depressed lady. And also there was another random girl named Grace, aka ‘a strong female warrior!’ Idk why they added her, probably just an excuse to make the characters feel badass, but then they go up against the Rev-9, the happy funny family guy fades away, and the end. Terminator: Dark Fate is a waste of time cashgrab, disguised as an action film. The one good thing I can think of is that the action scenes are pretty good, but the rest of the film just has bad writing, dull characters, ruined characters, and it completely destroyed the purpose of the first two amazing movies. The franchise is dead, the franchise SHOULD have ended at T2, but my god, they had to make more. This film had so much potential but sadly was a huge flop and disappointment. Honestly, how can this even be called a terminator film?? Expand

Expand

So we are finally at the end of the franchise and does it leave on a high note, no it doesn’t well I mean it’s not terrible at all but it’s just there it’s like Salvation it’s just there. I love that Linda Hamilton is back as Sarah Connor she is as much of a badass as the T2 and it’s awesome to have her back. I do like the R rating again but it’s just a more vulgar version of Genisys, obviously Arnold is back and he is still awesome and he is getting so old it’s crazy which then gets me to the part I don’t like, THE CGI. The CGI looks terrible I obviously get it for Arnold because he is in his 70s but still it’s bad looking it looks like the Resident Evil movies. If you saw the scene breakdown with the director Tim Miller with him, Linda, Arnold and James Cameron all coming back this should have been the next T2 but it’s not. Anyway he was describing how they did it and he just said this car was CG, this actor was CG, these sparks were CG my jaw was on the floor when he said this was CG, he was CG, MY **** IS CGI. Overall the movie is nothing terrible it’s got some funny parts good action, great cast, great score and good way to end the franchise. Btw I actually have no problem with the T-800 killing John Connor just me. Ranking Good. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Missed opportunity here. The casting of Mackenzie Davis really ruined this movie. I think it's fine if you kill off John Connor, but....wouldn't the movie have been more interesting if Legion went back in time to kill a young Kyle Reese instead of the unknown Dani? How would an aging Sarah Conner react to a young Kyle Reese knowing what she knows? There's so much more that could have been done with this but instead we get a amazonian adventure story. There are other major holes in the movie. Sarah Conner is wanted by the FBI and known and wanted criminal, but Arnolds Terminator who blew up Cyberdine and killed multiple cops is allowed to be a plubmer and no one knows who he is? Geesh. This movie was good enough but not great due to the holes, feminist's direction and plot weaknesses. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Good actions scenes, however nothing we haven't seen before in the terminator franchise. In fact there's nothing in this film we haven't seen done before, and done better. I was astonished they killed off John Conner, the hero of the resistance, early in the film and so casually as well. It reminds me of when they did the same thing in the star wars films; retconning Luke as a grumpy hermit. The new John Conner is a Mexican woman, but we don't see any reason why she is so important. The new Kyle Reese is also a woman, it's like they decided to put women in the strong roles for the sake of it - it's almost at the point where seeing a strong male protagonist would be as unusual as it used to be seeing a strong female protagonist. Arnie is terribly emasculated, basically a doddery grandpa family man. Linda Hamilton returns to do a lot of shouting; basically a grandma from hell. The evil terminator is yet another "liquid metal" variant. Overall if you're going to retcon important story arcs and characters in a beloved franchise you should have a good reason for doing so other that gender-swapping for the sake of it, and this film doesn't provide any good reasons. I had some expectations for this film: with the return of names as reputable as Linda Hamilton (who play Sarah Connor again) and James Cameron (not to be the director, as I would have preferred, but as a producer), I hoped that this filmI had some expectations for this film: with the return of names as reputable as Linda Hamilton (who play Sarah Connor again) and James Cameron (not to be the director, as I would have preferred, but as a producer), I hoped that this film could relaunch a franchise that seemed to be in decay. Unfortunately, that's not happened: it is a terrible film, and the box office results seem to agree with that assessment.

To begin with, I did not like the fact that this film makes a clean slate of all the films released after 1991. I was left with the feeling that James Cameron did not respect the work of all those who endeavored to relaunch the franchise, like those children who just want to play with a toy so that no other boy can play with it. Therefore, I am better able to consider this film as "non-canonical" than all the others. I am sorry that the film industry is so subject to vanities and personal egos, but the world is just like that.

Then, we have a bad script, which basically gives us a reconstruction of the whole story after "Terminator 2": Skynet was stopped (how? "Terminator 2" ends with the clear idea that it hasn't happened yet) but John Connor was murdered and Sarah is undone by the pain. Decades later, in Mexico, a new terminator appears to kill Daniella, a young girl who knows nothing of what awaits her and is unexpectedly saved by a stranger. As the film progresses, we discover that, in the future, there will be a new Skynet, called Legion, bla bla bla end of the world bla bla bla war against machines. Where have I seen this before? Was it in the first two films in the franchise?

The cast is good and features, as usual, Arnold Schwarzenegger in his role as Terminator. However, this humanized and very "good" version of the character not only seemed totally false and unconvincing, but it was out of step with the rest of the narrative, such as a piece left over in a machine or a dissonant chord in a melody. The actor is not to blame! He is very good and is courageous in his effort to return to the character despite not being as young as he was. The problem is the conception of the character itself, and the material given to him. Linda Hamilton also seemed to be doing well, giving us a Sarah Connor marked by age, social ostracism, the loss of her son and a future that did not happen. I really liked Natalia Reyes, especially because she doesn't deny speaking in her native tongue, and she takes on the role as an action heroine, not a damsel in distress. On the negative, I saw nothing truly remarkable in Gabriel Luna's performance and Mackenzie Davis does not seem at ease with her character.

Technically, the film turned out to be uninteresting: the first two films worked well thanks to the skillful way in which suspense and tension were built and modeled. This film is not capable, at any time, of doing something similar and, consequently, it has the emotion and interest of a grand and expensive video game, with indestructible characters and tons of action, visually grand, but tasteless. The quality of the CGI is good, but it does not surprise us or justify the film. Cinematography is good and elegant, dark in the right measure and editing was also very well done. The soundtrack is uninteresting and recycles the leitmotiv of the franchise.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For itself a good movie despite some flaws. What destroys the movie is that it is a hard reboot of the franchise. Yes you read it correctly. All previous movies are meaningless in less than 5 minutes even the good first 2 (Rest is spoiler free). Many people have quit watching the movie here and will give a 0/10 and I will not deny that they have a valid point. It was a mayor complaint by some critiques and most fans. Often it is credited as “The Last Jedi” of the Terminator franchise. I would give a 8/10 without it. In hindsight we could have predicted it as there was a certain character missing in the trailers and no one in the shown cast could fill the role. Increasingly there were rumors that it will ignore the divisive former movies and continue the story from Terminator 2 which is technically accurate. It was an insane decision to pull this off and the box office and fan reactions prove it. I must again say that it is a good movie with characters that I enjoy but it is hard to get as much invested as to the other characters we cared for decades. As remark: People always like long established characters more than new once especially when the new characters could not shine before such drastic events. After the reboot inducing events the story starts after a time gap in Mexico City 2020. A new Terminator is send back in time to kill Dani Ramos and a female soldier is send back to stop him. It is the standard formula for the franchise and the story develops as before with a few twists. Again I say I like the story but it has a few logical flaws that I cant go into details because of spoilers. Lets say the first 2 movies of the franchise made clear what would happen as follow up of a certain event that happened here at the beginning (And it did not happen). It lacks the consequences and with that weakens the menace. For the actors I have only praise and I blame the flaws on the script. Arnold Schwarzenegger returns in his signature role and gets some new facets. I really like the development but be warned it confused some fans and became a WTF moment for them. Linda Hamilton returns as Sarah Connor and delivers the best performance in the movie. Mackenzie Davis as Grace comes close to the best performance. Sadly the script weakens her performance but like I said I wont hold it against her. Natalia Reyes as Dani is good and delivers her role. Gabriel Luna as Gabriel / Rev 9 is excellent. Menacing and ruthless as he / his role has to be. A great cast and it is sad that they wont get the credit they deserve as the reboot overshadows everything by far. The visuals and special effects are as always remarkable. It is a thing each movie in the franchise does right. The action sequences are great too and I like how they use Graces special condition to get more out of it;-). Overall this enters the realm of good movies were a single (really stupid) plot choice ruined the experience. After the reboot inducing element you cant enjoy it as fan as you just feel the loss and potentially anger. It is a shame but cant be changed. I don't know how this could be accepted as the backlash would be unavoidable and clearly foreseeable. I think they need an idea checker that stops such wasteful mistakes. Expand

Do you love stories that throw away everything built up in said previous films? Well, Dark Fate is the film for you. This nightmare of a movie doesn't just rip apart the lore that the franchise was built on but it pisses on the ashes as well. Honestly, I really have no idea what they were thinking but let it freaking go.

This is the third straight failed reboot of the franchise and for good reason too. It is so uninspired and relies too heavily on a cast that simply doesn't work. It sucks and is shocking even worst than Genisys, which I thought was a feat incapable of reaching.

I was excited for Dark Fate when I heard about it, especially when I saw who was attached to the production. However, I heard nothing but bad things about the film and it disappeared from my radar as quickly as it had arrived.

On a whim, following a brief conversation with a friend regarding the series, I decided to go find an upload of Dark Fate to watch. What I got was a solid, almost old-school action flick: car chases, explosions, sustained automatic weapons fire and a plane falling out of the sky, with pretty good CG throughout, and a surprisingly female cast for a film of this nature. In particular I enjoyed Mackenzie Davis' cyborg commando character Grace.

In retrospect, it's hard for me to sift through all the hate this movie got. I am sure some dislike the writing, and that's probably the most valid complaint. I myself don't know what to feel about removing John Connor from the story so abruptly. On the other hand, Genesys, which I also admittedly enjoyed, had written the series into a corner. When making a sixth installment of a franchise or indeed any sequel after 2, I suppose you are going to have to choose between doing the same but more or doing something different. Dark Fate is actually a little bit of both, perhaps by virtue of time travel. It is not necessarily an ending to Sarah Connor's story, but it is the beginning of Dani Ramos's. Or maybe not, given the reviews.

But I also wonder how much hate the movie got because of its cast and locations. The story begins in Mexico. Of the four leads there are three women and one Arnold, and one of those women, the "new John Connor", is Mexican. Given that you can't walk a half a block these days without tripping over a gaggle of reactionary, regressive idiots that bandy around terms like "SJW" and "get woke go broke", it makes one wonder.

I'm sure series "purists" didn't care for the film either, which evidently extends to at least some of the production staff given their decision to ignore every film after T2. I didn't know what to expect from Linda Hamilton, but her vitriolic, tired old warrior character, with her almost audience-surrogate delivery of simple two word, 50% profanity responses to the insane **** happening to the protagonists was pretty great. She could have phoned it in, and to some it might look like she did- but compare her to Sigourney Weaver in Alien: Resurrection and you'll see the difference.

I enjoyed Arnold in this film as well, even if he was kind of a strange artifact in the story. It's possible his character could have been removed without affecting the plot- but then how would Sarah have found all those terminators?

Terminator: Dark Fate is not a film without problems, but I think it's a decent action movie and a decent Terminator as well. I would put it ahead of Genesys and Salvation. Maybe on par with T3.

I could not even imagine how to spoil the film if I put feminist ideas at the head and make the main antagonist a helpless dumb. And the main protagonist who replaced John Connor is so puzzling at all, her character is not spelled out by the screenwriter at all. As a result, the film has 2 normal scenes and all the rest is either self-copying the series again or the complete stupidity of the screenwriter. The Terminator series is dead, and the saddest thing is that Cameron himself buried it, betraying his ideas.

Arnie's darkly comic turn is absolutely on character, Linda Hamilton is gritty and authentic, and the criminally talented Mackenzie Davis is absolutely convincing as a conflicted super soldier from the future. The opening scene makes a very clear point about the narrative direction since James Cameron was last involved, and whilst I enjoyed those too it's definitely a cathartic opening.

Being a big time terminator fan, the first two are gospel. I have to say I'm still a bit disappointed with the progression and twists in the story but the action scenes are mostly spectacular but a little too reliant on cgi that begins to look cartoonish at times. Also the movie gets a little to repetitive in spots. I mean how many times to we need to see the villain come back together. That being said the three female leads are powerhouses. Linda Hamilton's Sarah Connor is a damaged soul fighting for a reason to be relevant, Mackenzie Davis is unbelievably bad ass and Natalie Rayes as Dani is spunky and fierce. Arnold Schwarzenegger is also welcome and inspired in a smaller but pivotal role that fleshes out all of their stories. All in all it's a fun, wild but unnecessary ride that satisfyingly ends the franchise for the most part. It's not really anything you haven't seen but its fun and I do really appreciate that director Tim Miller of Deadpool brings back some much needed grit to the series missing since the first. Sexy Gabriel Luna's Rev 9 is an unstoppable, nightmarish killing machine. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Thank God I decided to watch spoiler reviews of this stupid movie instead of watching the movie in the cinema. I am so glad this atrocity bombed at the box office. I honestly had a bad feeling that John Connor was going to be killed off in the very beginning of Dark Fate according to the leaked rumors before the movie came out, and those rumors actually turned out to be true! Third wave feminism is ruining Hollywood and unnecessarily killing off great, iconic, beloved, straight white male characters (i.e. Luke Skywalker, Iron Man/Tony Stark, John Connor) from our childhoods only to have them stupidly replaced by lame, poorly written female characters (i.e. Rey, Ironheart, Dani Ramos) just to please SJWs! James Cameron is a liar and a **** for saying he was bringing Edward Furlong back as John Connor but ended up just using a young CGI stunt motion actor as teenage John Connor only to have him killed off in the opening scene of this abominable sequel and be sidelined by two random, dull female characters (Dani Ramos and Grace) annoyingly teaming up with Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) all for a stupid woke, feminist, politically correct agenda. I was so stoked to hear him coming back as John Connor only to find out it was a big, fat, cruel lie and watched the atrocious Dark Fate opening scene on YouTube. Edward Furlong should have reprised his role as John Connor but obviously as an adult in Terminator: Dark Fate. Edward Furlong’s John Connor should’ve been a badass adult that uses weapons and is this brave badass, great, cunning, epic, heroic military leader of the worldwide human resistance leading the war against the human-killing machines that the previous canon Terminator films (The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day) greatly and heavily built him up to be and teaming up with his badass mom Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and one of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-101s saving humanity by destroying plenty of man-killing Terminators together like one badass trio in Terminator: Dark Fate. THAT’S WHAT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED IN DARK FATE!!! THAT WOULD HAVE MADE AND BEEN A PERFECT AND LEGITIMATELY SOLID REBOOTED TERMINATOR THREEQUEL!!! The opening scene of Dark Fate is a huge slap on the face and one giant middle finger to all OG Terminator fans! That atrocious scene made T1 and T2 pointless, made Kyle Reese’s sacrifice in T1 meaningless, made the T-101’s mission completion and sacrifice in T2 meaningless, completely ruins the perfect ending of Judgment Day, and completely ruins everything we love about the first two Terminator films. Dark Fate ruined the two beloved, fantastic, timeless classics known as The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Genisys killed the franchise and Dark Fate buried the franchise. Terminator: Dark Fate is a franchise-burying disaster. I can’t believe he was killed off only to have him be replaced by some lame, stupid, short, skinny, random teenage Latina Mexican to please stupid SJWs. Stupidly and disrespectfully killing John Connor off like that in the first five or ten minutes of this rebooted direct sequel was shockingly all James Cameron’s (the creator of the Terminator franchise and the producer, director, and one of the writers of the two fantastic, timeless, beloved cinematic masterpieces The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day which he so fantastically directed, produced, and brilliantly co-wrote, and executive producer of Terminator: Dark Fate) decision. James Cameron is a washed-up, senile old coot and only a shadow of his former self. He is now a grumpy, old geezer who only wants to direct stupid, unnecessary Avatar sequels most people never asked for. Avatar was extremely overrated and boring. Avatar was so boring that I fell asleep through it. He is no longer a visionary, he is just a big idiot and a major screwup. He is now a master of art in ruining things. James Cameron is George Lucas 2.0. Tim Miller (director of Terminator: Dark Fate) is the new Rian Johnson. As much as I love the film Deadpool (which he greatly directed), he was a bad choice to direct Terminator: Dark Fate. He badly directed Dark Fate. He is a wrong director for Terminator movies along with Jonathan Mostow, McG, and Alan Taylor whom all each badly directed a Terminator film. The entire Terminator saga truly forever ended at T2. Everything after Terminator 2: Judgment Day is not canon and only fanfiction. When Terminator: Woke Fate comes out on Blu-Ray and DVD, everyone needs to incinerate every single copy of that garbage! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is absolute disappointment. At first, the villan here is so stupid and makes me think that he's specifically lends itself to the main antagonists. It has so much power and abilities, but he uses them only when it looks epic. For example, his ability to destroy flesh on contact once, when looked intimidatingly, but when Grace was contacting him with her body, he didn't even think about using this ability. He's so pathetic, stupid and miserable. He even can't hit his opponent with spikes, when he was aiming at point blank range. And in this movie, there are a lot of moments when he could just kill everyone, but he didn't because... Idk At second, women characters here are just such strong just because..they are strong. Sarah Connor for example, was a strong woman because of years of training, not because screenwriter wanted it. And there are a lot of such minuses. This is just a try to hit trends, using female characters. *АСУЖДАЮ* Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wasn't a fan of the feminist idea, but I still liked Grace and the return of the real Sarah Connor, not Emilia Clarke but Linda Hamilton.

The story did play it safe, but for a finale, I thought it was mostly fine, especially when compared to Genisys. I wish it did do some things differently, but I enjoyed it overall.

I am mixed about John Connor's early death. It's sad to see this character get killed and the replacement character is Dani, who I didn't care about too much. But on the other hand, this series did start with Sarah, and I thought it made sense to end it with her. Though John still could've lived as well, or at least until the end. Plus, Sarah was killed off in Terminator 3, so I'm glad she got to be the main protagonist again.
Overall, I like this film. It has its shortcomings, but I enjoy it. 7.5/10.

This movie is as average as it gets which is a shame for this franchise, probably the last appearance of Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron himself.

The movie not even neglects the movies that happened after Terminator 2 as James Cameron said himself it also neglects the very same movies James Cameron created. Actually I truely do not understand why he decided the plot to do that way. I cannot describe it better because I do not want to spoil people but denying the groundworks of the franchise to create a new even thinner plotline is just unnecessary and unforgiving.

The re-appearance of Linda Hamilton was super useless in my eyes. She did not add anything to this movie. Arnold Schwarzenegger saved a few bits due to some charming sentences he threw in. All in all it has to be mentioned that Mackenzie Davis played her part very well although the role does not match the character that J.C. plotted out in the beginning. Feels very awkward and misplaced at times. Also the disputes between each of the roles feels extremely unsatisfying. It is said to say but the movie is (IMHO) not worth the money and a further step back from the franchise at whole. I might even argue that the original Terminator 3 had a more solid and intense screenplay than this one. Of course a Terminator movie will always make money, so we will possibly see another appearance somewhen soon but with this very bad revival from J.C and probably the fading out of Arnold Schwarzenegger this franchise is either drop dead or needs a complete new reboot to get fresh air, new ideas and the chance to develop new iconic characters to develop a new series.

Not to say Dark Fate isn't guilty of the same tired tropes of the last several Terminator sequels, but it is at least trying to do something this time. Dark Fate attempts to soft-reboot the franchise, and it's largely successful while revealing that the first 2 Terminator's that are so cherished, really aren't that great. Dark Fate follows the plot of T2 almost exactly with new "characters" that are absolutely fine. The return of Sarah Connor is largely wasted, she gets to curse and shoot big guns, but her role is reduced to macguffin finder (the macguffin being Schwarzenegger's T-800). The action is typical of the era; fast moving, muddy, and confusingly shot. The new killer Terminator is ridiculous and once again proves the failings of action movie sequels: just because a villain is more powerful doesn't mean it's more compelling. Dark Fate had a lot of great things going for it, Mackenzie Davis and Natalie Reyes are really quite good and provide a nice anchor to Linda Hamilton's over the top performance. However, the lowest common denominator script that both talks down to the audience and under-explains things at the same time make the narrative messy and aimless unless you know its just T2 again again. I haven't had this much to say about a Terminator movie in decades, so that's a good thing, right? Expand

It's so close to being really good! There are just enough things right about it to make you that much more disappointed by its shortcomings.

I also heard it's a sequel to Terminator 2 or some crap like that but after watching it at cinema's I'd say a sequel to Terminator 2 now seems an insult. I hated Dark Fate because 1) The villain Terminator (rev 9) was unimpressive. 2) The film looked cheap. 3) The ending was laughable. 4) The action scenes were not that great and the film felt horrible... They even destroyed the franchise by killing off John Connor which has made the whole series make no sense... Terminator: Dark Fate is a dark mistake and a horrible movie that should never have been made. Terrible Terminator film! Expand

"Terminator: Dark Fate" is an entertaining if derivative popcorn film with impressive special effects, and solid action.

If you want to watch a good Terminator movie or try to feel the atmosphere of this dark future, just watch a 1 and a 2 part of the original dilogy, or play a Terminator: Resistance game, which has a much more in common with this universe, than this disgusting, animated slide show.

I'm a woman, I love wonder woman etc. this is not a case of anti women, it's a case of, I'm fed up of this feminist agenda leaking into everything. I would much rather watch Genisys or Salvation. The Rev 9 is a cool design and his acting is awesome. The action scene where Grace first fights him is really well done. Expand

Very predictable if you've seen the first Terminator movie. It is to Terminator property like Ghostbusters 2016 is to the Ghostbuster's property.

And last, but not least, did you REALLY had to kill John? Was it a feminist symbolism thing? The male savior figure dies and the flame goes to the female savior figure, or something like that?
