Much better than I was expecting! Terminator has been disappointing since T2 but this feels like a decent contribution in many respects. Linda Hamilton carries it and Mackenzie Davis does a good job too. Don't get me wrong - it isn't aMuch better than I was expecting! Don't get me wrong - it isn't a classic like T2, but worth watching. Only real issue with it is the overuse of CG effects. Common problem in a lot of films now, I guess because it's a lot cheaper than it used to be. Not an excuse though for the gravity defying fight sequences that really aren't necessary. Oh well. Not the first recent film to have this problem, so best try to ignore and enjoy the rest of the film.… Expand

Storyline was messed up, but the action scenes was pretty good. The new terminator was great, its cool when split into two terminator (solid form and liquid form) something different.

Tbh, I wondered about the user **** I found the flick ok. Was it perhaps because I did not expect so much?

I found the characters very good. Grace is really badass and plays her role pleasantly authentic, without much cringe. Arnie and Linda also surprised me. Arnies deadpan humor is adorable. Both were set in scene in an appropriate way. I guess producers could have made many things worse. I also found it cool to locate the first half of the story in Mexico - the chase thru mexico, featured like a roadmovie. I liked that.
I guess the story (in principles of the whole franchise) is the only real downside. The overall topic is always the same, somebody arrives from the future to prevent the judgment day (in the broadest sense). Now producers have to carefully make up their minds on how to proceed with the franchise.

Bottom line: The topic of the Terminator franchise (incl Dark Fate) unfortunately comes without intriguing elements. It is solely due to the theatrical performance and the well-drawn characters that I can still recommend the film!… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's preface my review with some context: My first glimpse of the Terminator universe was Arnold Swarzenegger on David Letterman on Jun 7, 1991. I was five years old, laying on the livingroom floor playing with a toy firetruck.

Weird foreign dude, blah blah blah, cut to the trailer, which was the bike bar scene with the cigar. It blew my mind. I wasn't sure what was going on, but it was badass.

Never saw the movie until many years later, I think. I knew what it was, I knew it was a big deal, but never saw it in its entirety, for sure, when I was in high school. It is an amazing film - without a doubt one of the biggest and most impactful films of its time, and of all time.

I grew up on Rambo and Die Hard. Die Hard is my favorite film. It's just well done, and was from the end of the pre-cgi era of film making.

Cut to the point, before this movie, there were only two true terminator films. The original, and T2. I've tried to watch 3, 4, whatever and never got through an entire one. I saw Genisys in the theater and was so frustrated. Jai Courtney is franchise poision - he killed Die Hard as well. Genisys is not a Terminator movie.

When I had heard about Dark Fate, I knew that it was about to change, and they were going to right the various wrongs that had happened to the Terminator franchise over the years. With Linda Hamilton back, it was guaranteed to be good.

That being said, the movie wasn't spectacular. There were holes in the plot, the new rev 8 Terminator guy was kind of DOA character-wise, although after reading about him and his involvement in the production, I have respect for him. You just can't outdo Robert Patrick - that was a performance for the ages. Mackenzie Davis was great, but I am an existing fan of her other work like HCF. Linda Hamilton goes without saying, was great, although she set the bar quite high with T2...

All in all, yes, it could have been a better movie. I do consider it the first legitimate Terminator product after T2, and I accept the plot and the trajectory it puts the characters on. I will be buying this on Bluray or something when the director's cut comes out, and I would not hesitate to go see a follow-up movie. Wasn't planning that for Genisys, and I rejoiced when it was cancelled.

If only James Cameron had done this instead of Avatar, 15 years ago...… Expand

It was better then I expected. This movie gave me no anxiety. Had some funny moments. Arnold was a nice surprise. Not bad for a moment when you are tired and just want to shut your brain off for a few of hours.

Wasn't as bad as I remembered it being at the pictures it is a very fast pace with plenty of action and the story which was the main thing I disliked at the Cinema when I first watched it wasn't as bad as I remembered. Never really understood why this had so much criticism because I enjoyed it and that's all that matters to me. Even my wife liked it and she's usually picky about, just about everything.

Going into Dark Fate I had very low expectations. The last Terminator movie that I actually loved was T2: Judgment Day, and I honestly didn’t think this film would change that. I had accepted the idea that I was never going to see another engaging Terminator film.

Coming out of the film I was earnestly shocked at how much I enjoyed this film. I definitely had my issues, I won’t go into spoilers, but overall I had a really fun time.

Don’t expect a masterpiece like the original 2 films, but if you’re a fan of the franchise I think you may be surprised at how enjoyable this film really is.… Expand

This is a Terminator movie, so you already know what you are in for. Killer robot goes back in time to kill someone in order to change history. Humans in the future sent back a guardian to protect that person. Lots of car chases ensue.

The franchise is stuck in a rut of repeating T1/T2 plotlines, and this film is exactly that, but with updated tech because we all think about tech differently than we did 35 years ago.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton are fantastic, and do a lot of the heavy lifting here.

It's a pretty good film, but don't expect anything groundbreaking here.… Expand

So much so, that after a while, it lacks punch (pun intended). Joining forces with an enhanced super-soldier from the future and a battle-hardened Sarah Connor she must find a way to survive. Essentially acknowledging the downward spiral the franchise has found itself in Dark Fate ignores everything that happened after the first two movies, but this only means comparisons to the excellent Terminator 2 are inevitable, and it does not come off well. As a stand alone action movie Dark Fate is decent but the now common over-reliance on CGI robs many scenes of their effectiveness and it can often be very hard to even tell what's going on in many of the more action packed scenes. There is also something missing when it comes to The Terminator as well, every time Robert Patrick was on-screen in T2 there was a real sense of threat but that just never comes across here. All in all it's this is a relatively entertaining movie, but its far from essential viewing and I doubt many will really remember it all that well in a few years time...… Expand

In fact there's nothing in this film we haven't seen done before, and done better. I was astonished they killed off John Conner, the hero of the resistance, early in the film and so casually as well. It reminds me of when they did the same thing in the star wars films; retconning Luke as a grumpy hermit. The new John Conner is a Mexican woman, but we don't see any reason why she is so important. The new Kyle Reese is also a woman, it's like they decided to put women in the strong roles for the sake of it - it's almost at the point where seeing a strong male protagonist would be as unusual as it used to be seeing a strong female protagonist. Arnie is terribly emasculated, basically a doddery grandpa family man. Linda Hamilton returns to do a lot of shouting; basically a grandma from hell. The evil terminator is yet another "liquid metal" variant. Overall if you're going to retcon important story arcs and characters in a beloved franchise you should have a good reason for doing so other that gender-swapping for the sake of it, and this film doesn't provide any good reasons.… Expand

As terminator fan that grew up watching T2 religiously, the pointless events in the beginning are utterly pitiful for the franchise. The shock factor attempt that MIller/Cameron pulled is the worst move of the franchise so far and is why this tanked. Now once you can force yourself to try to focus on the remainder of the film it does have some visually intriguing moments, but still seems hollow until Arnold shows up. I found Grace's character as serviceable and somewhat interesting, But Dani's character is unbelievably awful and you can never imagine her as the new leader of the resistance. It was nice to see Sarah Connor back in action as well. Until Arnold shows up this film was somewhat dragging. The Rev 9 was a visually cool villain though never once had the same unstoppable ferocity that T1000 had. So when the T800 finally shows up this film actually feels like a Terminator film and the conclusion is is easily the best part. While it never comes close to being a successor to the first 2 classics, it does have tremendous action towards the end. Overall with all the money and people they had behind this film it should've been written better and still seems like a cashgrab. John Connor deserved better and fans did too.… Expand

Chill people. The movie is entertaining, well paced, good action and makes sense. No it is not a classic like T1 and T2. I followed terminator movies until genisys. This one really is destroying the legacy of T1 and T2. Everything is rebooted into alternate reality like. That this movie is at its worst a "mostly entertaining" entry in the franchise overall, just as "Terminator 2" was, and that that's all it needed to be? That this movie is even worthy to be mentioned in the same sentence as the other successful "Terminator" films? That this movie has somehow undone the years of inadequacy and lunacy we've had to endure since "Terminator 2"? It's a desperate, simpering notion, with the emptiness that is this movie backing it up. This is a pretty decent action movie, but a woefully misguided and -- at times -- laughably conceived "Terminator" film. They've run roughshod over the lore and spit in the eye -- I feel -- of so many who admire the second film, making the mere idea of this movie having a favorable connection to it in any way an absolutely daffy one. I'm only feeling lucky in that, as a casual fan of the films, I eventually turned my brain off and disconnected from it all, ultimately coming to the conclusion mid-viewing that this still isn't a real sequel to "Terminator 2" for me. Just like the others haven't been. But I can only imagine what some of the franchise die hards must be going through. Again.… Expand

“Terminator: Dark Fate” was a totally serviceable movie in the franchise. If “Terminator: Genesis” had never happened, I bet more people would have given this a chance, because that movie really made me want to give up on this series, but if“Terminator: Dark Fate” was a totally serviceable movie in the franchise. A solid not bad, but could have being great. Nope, the waifi is right, the tests was breathtaking, solid action, espectacular Physics, we really experienced the IMAX factor.

I enjoyed the movie but is not a T2 succesor, it is more like an improvement of the T3-T5 formula.… Expand

Dark Fate is the natural progression of the franchise that has become so stale it keeps eating itself. Not to say Dark Fate isn't guilty of the same tired tropes of the last several Terminator sequels, but it is at least trying to doDark Fate is the natural progression of the franchise that has become so stale it keeps eating itself. Not to say Dark Fate isn't guilty of the same tired tropes of the last several Terminator sequels, but it is at least trying to do something this time. Dark Fate attempts to soft-reboot the franchise, and it's largely successful while revealing that the first 2 Terminator's that are so cherished, really aren't that great. Dark Fate follows the plot of T2 almost exactly with new "characters" that are absolutely fine. The return of Sarah Connor is largely wasted, she gets to curse and shoot big guns, but her role is reduced to macguffin finder (the macguffin being Schwarzenegger's T-800). The action is typical of the era; fast moving, muddy, and confusingly shot. The new killer Terminator is ridiculous and once again proves the failings of action movie sequels: just because a villain is more powerful doesn't mean it's more compelling. Dark Fate had a lot of great things going for it, Mackenzie Davis and Natalie Reyes are really quite good and provide a nice anchor to Linda Hamilton's over the top performance. However, the lowest common denominator script that both talks down to the audience and under-explains things at the same time make the narrative messy and aimless unless you know its just T2 again again. I haven't had this much to say about a Terminator movie in decades, so that's a good thing, right?… Expand

Full-sized review:

If you have not watched the original two movies, then this one is a fun, switch-off-your-brain action film, and I could see how this could be a 7 or even an 8 for you.

If you are a fan of the original movies, though, this film rewrites the story in such an insulting, infuriating way that you will probably give this a 4 or a 5. I do not think this movie deserves less than a 4, though, even with all its flaws.

The acting is uneven, with Linda and Arnold being excellent and the other two main performers having ups and downs, but not bad overall.

The action scenes are a bit over the top but, this being a Terminator movie, is to be expected. It requires some suspension of disbelief, but if you've watched any of the Fast and Furious movies (especially the most recent one) you will not be surprised.

The writing... well, this is where the movie loses points for me. Let me try to break it down:

- The script rewrites the whole time line of the Terminator universe, to the point that it renders the original two movies meaningless. I understand the desire to evolve past the original actors / characters, but this movie could have been executed without introducing these major retroactive continuity changes. If you are a fan of the saga, you will feel insulted.

- Identity politics. These days one has to accept that every other movie / TV show is going to introduce some sort of identity politics message, but this movie really goes out of its way to do it. Except for Arnold, all the male characters in this movie are idiots or **** The movie introduces an unnecessary plot point to show very specific views on the issue of migration in the US.

I honestly have nothing against strong female main characters; both Linda Hamilton and Mackenzie Davis and their characters are great. But I do not see the need to spread anti-male sentiment in order to empower women.

In sum, the movie wants to take the franchise in a different direction and chooses to do so in a way that I find unnecessarily disrespectful to the previous works. You will like it only if you have not watched or do not care about the original two movies.… Expand

As a movie is just ok but very predictable. As a Terminator movie is just an insult. Hamilton is really good though but I feel her talent is wasted with such a weak story.

I personally would have written a better story line, something like this:
Sarah is trying to get into Skynet to rescue John who has been captured. They are in the middle of a war and Sarah and the Resistance finally find John whom before dying says to Sarah that Skynet wanted to study more about humans and emotions so they are better armed for a future war. Sarah finds out that a man has traveled to the past, who is that man? The human form of the T1 and T2 (hence why they look alike). This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Terminator: Dark Fate. The so called 'true' sequel to T2. The film was...Okay for the most part. It had the potential to be a solid 7/10 but that didn't happen unfortunately. With the plot being the same exact thing we have already seen. Basically a rehash of T1 and T2. Judgement Day has been delayed, Skynet is no more but a new AI named 'Legion' has wiped out humanity at 2042. A Rev-9 is sent back to modern day to kill a girl named Dani Ramos while an enhanced human named Grace is also sent back in time but to protect Dani. The two get help from Sarah Connor herself and later Arnold to kill the Rev-9. Linda Hamilton is great, Arnold is great, Mackenzie Davis did a good job on Grace too, but Dani Ramos wasn't a good character however and was one of the problems with the film...As for the Rev-9 played by Gabriel Luna, he was fine. But wasn't special or as good as Robert Patrick was as the T-1000 in T2. The action is good, the soundtrack in my personal opinion is pretty generic but some of it was quite good at least, and as for the VFX, they sucked. Some of the CGI looked good, but most of it didn't looked well at all, ESPECIALLY in the airplane sequence. No practical effects whatsoever. Terminator is also known for having amazing action and stunts done in practical effects, right? Now how is the story? It wasn't good. Spoilers ahead but right at the first five minutes of the film, we get a de-aged T-800, de-aged Sarah Connor, and a de-aged John Connor. The T-800 shoots John twice in the chest, killing him. Which to me was disappointing. So who's the savior of humanity in the future war now? Dani Ramos. They should have went for a better idea than this honestly. Hell, they should make a future war film that fans would love and appreciate. HOWEVER, let's not get a future war film taking place in the Legion timeline. Anyways, the film gets a 6.4/10. As a standalone film, it's decent. As a Terminator film, it's disappointing.… Expand

We are back *Terminator voice*. This weekend we are able to give you a review of Terminator: Dark Fate. But first things first.

Let’s catch you up on Terminator history. This movie takes place more than 20 years after Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) met and survived the original Terminator (1984) and then prevented judgment day years later (in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)) (forget about all the other Terminators between ’91 and ’18). We find out what she did essentially altered history and the fate of the human race. Dani Ramos (Natalia Reyes) is living a simple life in Mexico City with her brother and father when a new, highly advanced and murderous Terminator – a Rev-9 (Gabriel Luna) – travels back through time to hunt and kill her. Dani’s survival depends on her joining forces with two heroines: Grace (Mackenzie Davis), an enhanced super-soldier from the future, and an old, battle-hardened Sarah Connor. We follow Rev-9 as he tracks Dani; and, he leaves a trail of destruction on the way. Luckily for them, they find T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) from Sarah’s past and recruit him to help them save the day.

Now that you have the history and a simple version of the plot, let’s give you the good and the bad.

There is tons of action in this movie. There is so much action that some of the scenes were repetitive and could have been cut to shorten the movie. Nevertheless, if you love explosions, constant chasing and fighting, this movie is right up your alley. Forget any of the plot this movie force feeds down our throat and just sit there and enjoy the action. Surprisingly, this movie has a couple (2 or 3) scenes that actually made me laugh out loud – maybe because they were unexpected or maybe because they were actually that funny. Either way, the comedic relief was appreciated as the movie just feels constantly heavy. Arnold really stole the movie and quiet as it’s kept made the movie bearable. Lastly, I enjoyed the women’s empowerment underlying message and highlight of Mexico in this movie. Now for the bad.

The movie felt 3x longer than it actually was. The movie didn’t break the 2 hour mark, but I found myself checking my watch and the pre-teen next to me clearly went from “enjoying this movie” to “get me out of here” by the last 20 minutes. You would think the action would quell those feelings, but ultimately, this is the same exact “Terminator” action and moves we’ve been dealing with for 35 years. The producers could’ve given us something new to make us “ooo” and “ahh”. So, the action was good but nothing we haven’t seen before.

Lastly, this storyline, that they harped on constantly, was just convoluted for no reason. The idea has already been fleshed out in two movies and yet for some reason the writers decided to try to confuse the audience and make the movie seem more deep than it really is. This movie is quite shallow and obvious. Don’t try to trick us as viewers with a basic and predictable storyline when we’re clearly only there for the action and explosions.

Long story short, I know the Terminator fans out there will enjoy this movie, but to everyone else, this is a perfect movie to watch on FX in six months or so. You won’t have missed anything. This movie is basically Miss Bala with robots chasing her instead of drug lords.

I think it's fine if you kill off John Connor, but....wouldn't the movie have been more interesting if Legion went back in time to kill a young Kyle Reese instead of the unknown Dani? How would an aging Sarah Conner react to a young Kyle Reese knowing what she knows? There's so much more that could have been done with this but instead we get a amazonian adventure story. There are other major holes in the movie. Sarah Conner is wanted by the FBI and known and wanted criminal, but Arnolds Terminator who blew up Cyberdine and killed multiple cops is allowed to be a plubmer and no one knows who he is? Geesh. This movie was good enough but not great due to the holes, feminist's direction and plot weaknesses.… Expand

Let's get the positive side: Linda Hamilton is literally bad ass as Sarah Connor and her performance is the best thing about this film. Other than that, the Terminator saga yet again implemented another 'hard reset' that negates its previous 'installments'. This time it would be better, as promised by the film makers. And boy, do they throw everything but the kitchen sink into this. You have major set piece after set piece being thrown at you, and they are a painful reminder that 'Judgment Day' is still the best action movie around. None of it work until slightly near the end. The biggest problem of this film: it is so derivative of the old flicks that there is literally no point of seeing this beside seeing this franchise 'updated' with modern technology. However...what they had before was so innovative and revolutionary, it even held well decades after its release. It's time for the film makers and its fans to say 'hasta la vista' to this franchise.… Expand

I don't know whats going on in Hollywood nowadays, but they've lost the plot completely trying to please women, lesbians, gays, and what not instead of just making a decent movie. Joker did it right. Transformers (2007) did it right. Cobra Kai series does it right. Terminator Dark Fate does not.… Expand

Some of the CGI sequences could have been better and done in a better lit environment and that being one of my major issues while trying to experience it on the screen. The narrative is not so engaging like it was with Judgement Day. They had Linda Hamilton as a character and could have used it to the core but it gets undermined by the newly introduced characters that don't strike enough chord with the viewers as an engaging experience and that being the main disappointment with this one. It's more like a marginal improvement over whatever installments came after T3. To me, Rise of the machines is more closer to the league where Judgement Day and The Terminator remains. I guess it'd take something more to beat it. Atleast, it's reassuring both the mediocre/below average movies that released after T3 have finally been bettered with Tim Miller's contribution. I'm hoping a sequel would improve upon the shortcomings.… Expand

The first action scene is quite thrilling (if a bit derivative of the truck powering through Las Vegas in Jason Bourne) but as the film progresses it gets more and more into (dodgy) CGI Marvel-style special effects. I can see why fans hate the first couple of minutes - it is a slap in the face to first two films. After that it is basically a Roadrunner cartoon - new Terminator gets destroyed, new Terminator melts back together - repeat ad infinitum. Having the female characters as the main protagonists seems to have drawn criticism from (male) fans too. I think the problem is that producers think that simply by switching the gender it makes everything fresh but it doesn’t (Ghostbusters is a perfect example). The main reason to see the movie is Linda Hamilton who is given considerable screen time and rocks. But that doesn’t save the film from being a huge disappointment. No wonder it has flopped at the box office.… Expand

Dark Fate pretends to bring something new to the table by removing our original protagonist, removing our original threat. And replaces this with a much less convincing protagonist and a much less convincing threat. In this movie we follow the story of a factory worker and her entourage of seemingly invincible super soldiers as they battle against a robot sent from the future to assassinate humanities last hope, for a second time. Because spoiler alert, they killed the last one. Our protagonists are aided by a text sending, carpet selling former killing machine turned family man in a battle against the Rev 9, a robot that looks like it could work at best buy. Now I could be critisized for being nostalgic, but the slow pace and ever looming threat that the original terminators presented are replaced in this movie by absolutely ludicious michael bay style action sequences, so absolutely over the top that they could have the moon crash down on our protagonists heads and you would still expect them to walk away unscathed. I will give the writers of the next installment a tip, fans have been waiting since 1991 for a future war movie, they want HK units, devistating laser rifles, a war torn cityscape with the sky blotted out, and they want John Connor. Not Christian Bale, could be any guy John, but the emotionless machine-like man we saw overlooking the battlefield back in the 90's. The fact is the pacing of these new movies, the outlandish set-pieces, the seemingly invincible and utterly shallow heroes. It just isn't what people want. Seriously, i've seen paddling pools with more depth.… Expand

However there's also a twist somewhere in the movie that might not sit well with some, the likes of which would be more fitting in a spinoff comic rather than a direct T2 sequel where it is wholly unwelcome and unwanted. And like Genysis, a lot of things are straight up not explained so they can be saved for a sequel which is no longer happening. On a related note, the actor for the Terminator antagonist is absolutely wonderful and he is legitimately intimidating. However, our beloved hero Sarah is relegated to standing in the shadows and scowling with the occasional scathing one-liner, which is extremely disappointing. To sum it up, Dark Fate is a deeply flawed movie with great action sequences and a fantastic antagonist, but a resounding ehhh when it comes to everything else.… Expand

In 2015, we had two blockbuster film franchises returning for more adventures and they were; 'Jurassic World' and 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'. Both of these films, regardless of what everyone may think of them now, had the benefit of being absent for over a decade before their big-screen return. For the most part, they were big in scale and scope, entertaining and epic to the point where they broke many box office records. While the "Terminator" franchise hasn't been absent for that long, after 'Terminator 2: Judgement Day' (1991), we did get; 'Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines' (2003), 'Terminator: Salvation' (2009) and 'Terminator: Genisys' (2015). But this one, 'Terminator: Dark Fate' is supposed to be the big "come back" film mainly because James Cameron - who wrote and directed the first two - is returning as co-writer and producer of this film, while Tim Miller ('Deadpool') is given control as the director. The film, without giving away too many spoilers, is pretty much what you've seen before. It's great to see Linda Hamilton return as Sarah Connor, as well as Arnold Schwarzenegger, but the film lacks a big surprise or suspense. There is nothing in this film except hollow and mechanical scenes which should be riveting and exhilarating, but they just feel passable. The cast, including Mackenzie Davis ('The Martian' and 'Tully') do a good job of what's required from them, but overall, very early on in the film, fans may feel alienated as to how the story begins. You may like this as a sense of diversion, and it is arguably better than what's come before, but overall, this film will make you feel empty, and maybe there is either a hunger for more big "Terminator" adventures, or, you're just done seeing these kinds of stories being told...… Expand

Dark Fate beats everything, in terms of rehashing the same story over and over again, with some slight variations. The cast and crew are all pros and do the best they can with a disastrous story and script. The usual fake-looking "90s video game" CGI also weighs down this film, but the real problem is the catastrophic fail in the storyline and the screenplay.

Obviously the demographic committee wanted to add more women leads and more "diversity". They also decided to show a "kinder gentler" side of Terminators -- as in, retired Terminators settle down and raise a family after they finish their mission. I mean it *might* have been funny as an SNL skit... but as the official, serious storyline in an actual Terminator film? Is this supposed to be a thoughtful, meaningful exploration of human and robot psychology? Epic, epic fail.

Someone at the higher levels should have known to block this crap. It's the misguided "cute ideas" of a desperate, and very pretentious screenwriter having a bad day under deadline pressure. In this case, the screenwriter essentially destroys the entire franchise. A good cast, good performances, and even the great Linda Hamilton herself cannot rescue this totally unconvincing storyline.

Nevertheless, there's another film that needs to be made here. It's the only story that could deliver the same grim, visceral, prophetic resonance of the first Terminator: a film that shows us Judgment Day, the nuclear war itself -- not in a soft, 30-second CGI clip, but in an HOUR LONG, immersive sequence showing just exactly what it would really be like for the human race to destroy itself this way. What it would look and feel like from street level. How things would go down in the days of horror immediately following. A dark film with no fan service whatsoever, a film designed to shock the audience and deliver the same warning as the first one, but amplified by modern cinematography and effects. Such a film could actually help restore the urgency of political opposition to nuclear weapons, and we need this now.… Expand

And the script ... The script is repetitive crap that loads the first two in 5 **** minutes. Even Terminator 3 is better in this section (and still seems the best of the sequels after the first two despite their sometimes absurd and childish humor).

Un destino que ha dejado cabos sueltos, un destino que rompe la línea del tiempo y la convierte en redención, un destino incierto que se vuelve a repetir pero con otro personaje que luchara en contra de las máquinas... Verídicto final de mi opinión personal 5/10 muy decepciónado con James cameron por haberse desecho por quien todos moriamos por el, por el que la lucha tenía esa importancia, años de tanto trabajo, películas de Terminator recreadas para darle el papel más importante de la historia y franquicia, una serie de Terminator que incluso también le dieron muchas cosas que contar con estas crónicas de sarah connor, tanto para esto? A unique element of the Terminator series is the complete lack of continuity among the episodes. Unlike “Star Wars” and other film franchises, the Terminator films have no canon, meaning that people who have died can suddenly reappear or other crucial plot developments from previous episodes may not actually have happened. This sleight of hand (you say sleight of hand, I say creative laziness) is explained by the amazing fact that anything inconvenient to the current story apparently occurred in a parallel history that never actually came to pass. Some days, suspending your disbelief can involve some very heavy lifting.

In “Terminator: Dark Fate,” Grace, a robot from the future, has been sent to earth to protect Dani, who represents the future of the human race in the face of a future artificial intelligence bent on exterminating all human life. Clearly, shamelessly recycling ideas is another key element of the Terminator series.

To be fair, there’s also a lot of good news about this film. First, Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor) and Schwarzenegger (T-800 or Carl) get to reprise their iconic roles. As a bonus, viewers get some really incredible flashbacks, where both characters were digitally de-aged. Current cast members Mackenzie Davis (“Tully,” “Halt and Catch Fire”) as Grace and Natalia Reyes as Dani are appealing, compelling and able to deliver their more egregious lines with a straight face. Also, the action sequences are consistently spectacular. The film’s opening scene runs nine minutes. By the time that first scene concluded, I was wondering if I’d been transported into a new James Bond film. It’s all great fun.

There are a few quibbles: As a mere mortal, it’s totally understandable why Hamilton has aged, let’s make a guess, about 35 years. It’s less apparent why Schwarzenegger, an inanimate T-800 robot, should be so much worse for wear. That’s just one of the many plot twists that don’t just strain credulity – actually, this plot beats the living s*** out of credulity, runs it over with a tank, then throws it off a cliff. In all honesty Arnold's appearance in the second half of the movie is what saved it from a lower grade. Has "women empowerment" all over it. I'm all up for equal rights but this was too much. Way too much shoved in our face.

'Dark Fate' was meh. I mean it's basically the Force Awakens of the franchise just more cash grab. Like...how many times can they keep alternating T1 & T2, and yet it's astounding that it never ruins the legacy of the series.

Despite all that, it's the third best in the series. At least this movie knows that Terminator is not for kids! I had some engagement in the movie, even through the reason being that it follows a familiar plot line.

Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger are both the stand outs. Hamilton playing a cranky bad-ass and Arnold playing an involved machine that has a life of his own. Mackenzie Davis was surprisingly not as annoying as I thought she will be just from the marketing alone. Her character was straight forward in terms of motivation and can take damage.

Tim Miller really knows how to direct action scenes effectively and in this movie he delivers some grand action set pieces. However, after seeing the movie a few days ago, only a small selection stick to memory.

Gabriel Luna did a decent job playing the new advance Terminator. They took the "Robert Patrick" approach with picking an ordinary looking guy and making him into the biggest threat of humanity. Although it was a bit hard for me to feel threaten by him as throughout the movie he seemed easily out match by pretty much everyone.

I didn't really buy into Dani played by Natalia Reyes as the main "saviour of the future", mainly because of her stiff acting and everytime she holds a gun it's twice her size.

The visual effects at times looked pretty OK, but the rest looked really bad. It really doesn't help when there's close ups on the effects where you can see the fakeness. At times the movie was a little too dark and I don't mean in tone, just whenever it's night time.

Overall rating: Not as great as T1 & T2, but nothing will without James Cameron magic touch.… Expand

There are so many issues with this movie

John Conner gets killed in the first few minutes, but wait was the T-1000 sent to kill John and the T-800 was sent to kill Sarah? yes.
The new Terminator-Lite has the ability to split, that he never really uses to his advantage.
It feel like they are trying to overwrite the previous Terminator films making a Mexican immigrant girl the new savior, killing John, but still forcing Sarah to raise the "new savior" implying that not only men, but mothers to men are bad.

This movie is woke garbage, but I'm sure it scores well on the Bechdel Test.

Avoid this movie until you can see it cheap or free.… Expand

I had some expectations for this film: with the return of names as reputable as Linda Hamilton (who play Sarah Connor again) and James Cameron (not to be the director, as I would have preferred, but as a producer), I hoped that this filmI had some expectations for this film: with the return of names as reputable as Linda Hamilton (who play Sarah Connor again) and James Cameron (not to be the director, as I would have preferred, but as a producer), I hoped that this film could relaunch a franchise that seemed to be in decay. Unfortunately, that's not happened: it is a terrible film, and the box office results seem to agree with that assessment.

To begin with, I did not like the fact that this film makes a clean slate of all the films released after 1991. I was left with the feeling that James Cameron did not respect the work of all those who endeavored to relaunch the franchise, like those children who just want to play with a toy so that no other boy can play with it. Therefore, I am better able to consider this film as "non-canonical" than all the others. I am sorry that the film industry is so subject to vanities and personal egos, but the world is just like that.

Then, we have a bad script, which basically gives us a reconstruction of the whole story after "Terminator 2": Skynet was stopped (how? "Terminator 2" ends with the clear idea that it hasn't happened yet) but John Connor was murdered and Sarah is undone by the pain. Decades later, in Mexico, a new terminator appears to kill Daniella, a young girl who knows nothing of what awaits her and is unexpectedly saved by a stranger. As the film progresses, we discover that, in the future, there will be a new Skynet, called Legion, bla bla bla end of the world bla bla bla war against machines. Where have I seen this before? Was it in the first two films in the franchise?

The cast is good and features, as usual, Arnold Schwarzenegger in his role as Terminator. However, this humanized and very "good" version of the character not only seemed totally false and unconvincing, but it was out of step with the rest of the narrative, such as a piece left over in a machine or a dissonant chord in a melody. The actor is not to blame! He is very good and is courageous in his effort to return to the character despite not being as young as he was. The problem is the conception of the character itself, and the material given to him. Linda Hamilton also seemed to be doing well, giving us a Sarah Connor marked by age, social ostracism, the loss of her son and a future that did not happen. I really liked Natalia Reyes, especially because she doesn't deny speaking in her native tongue, and she takes on the role as an action heroine, not a damsel in distress. On the negative, I saw nothing truly remarkable in Gabriel Luna's performance and Mackenzie Davis does not seem at ease with her character.

Technically, the film turned out to be uninteresting: the first two films worked well thanks to the skillful way in which suspense and tension were built and modeled. This film is not capable, at any time, of doing something similar and, consequently, it has the emotion and interest of a grand and expensive video game, with indestructible characters and tons of action, visually grand, but tasteless. The quality of the CGI is good, but it does not surprise us or justify the film. Cinematography is good and elegant, dark in the right measure and editing was also very well done. The soundtrack is uninteresting and recycles the leitmotiv of the franchise.… Expand

The movie not even neglects the movies that happened after Terminator 2 as James Cameron said himself it also neglects the very same movies James Cameron created. Actually I truely do not understand why he decided the plot to do that way. I cannot describe it better because I do not want to spoil people but denying the groundworks of the franchise to create a new even thinner plotline is just unnecessary and unforgiving.

The re-appearance of Linda Hamilton was super useless in my eyes. She did not add anything to this movie. Arnold Schwarzenegger saved a few bits due to some charming sentences he threw in. All in all it has to be mentioned that Mackenzie Davis played her part very well although the role does not match the character that J.C. plotted out in the beginning. Feels very awkward and misplaced at times. Also the disputes between each of the roles feels extremely unsatisfying. It is said to say but the movie is (IMHO) not worth the money and a further step back from the franchise at whole. I might even argue that the original Terminator 3 had a more solid and intense screenplay than this one. Of course a Terminator movie will always make money, so we will possibly see another appearance somewhen soon but with this very bad revival from J.C and probably the fading out of Arnold Schwarzenegger this franchise is either drop dead or needs a complete new reboot to get fresh air, new ideas and the chance to develop new iconic characters to develop a new series.… Expand

Inutilement politisés. Un film fais à 100% dans le côté industrie du cinéma sans la moindre fibre artistique, un banal projet lancer avant même d'avoir la moindre idée ou le moindre truc à raconter.

It has quite good VFX and the action scenes are quite good. The new villain is quite good in concept and the actor who plays it is serviceable. It is distracting at times when a small, nonathletic woman (without superpowers) singlehandedly takes down a group of people that includes able bodied men. It is also distracting from the narrative when an ethnic minority woman is chaperoned by an elderly woman and a crossdressing woman, while making statements about whiteness and the oppressive treatment of their wombs. I sat through the political posturing so that I could see Schwarzenegger, who has much less screen time on this occasion, do his robot fighting antics at the end. I enjoyed the mindless fun. I am aware that this movie was written and produced by a bunch of white men and is a vehicle for a hyper-masculine white male icon so all this insincere faux-woke political posturing doesn't really hold much weight. If the politics is not too irritating to you, you can turn of your brain and enjoy the explosions and robot skeletons.… Expand

Недалекое будущее. Феминизм победил повсеместно. Идет война женщин с машинами. Роботы и киборги теперь "работают" не на SkyNet, а на некий Легион. Что за Легион, откуда взялся, хз. Всё сопративление это в основном бабы, под руководством бабы, думаю именно поэтому они и пригрывают роботам имея на вооружении супер танки, супер самолёты, кибернетических бойцов и самое главное супер лазерное оружие. (Я правда не понимаю, неужели Кэмерон правда верит в то, что баба 1,5 метра ростом может армией командовать?:)). Теперь о настоящем. Три храбрые женщины и Шварц пытаются спасти мир, вот и всё. Мужики здесь тоже есть, но все они либо сволочи, либо статисты с 3 минутами экранного времени и даже Джона Коннора спустили в сортир в первые 3 минуты фильма! Очень странное решение для Кэмерона, хоть он и не режиссер, убить своего главного протагониста. Но если задвинуть весь этот гребаный феминизм на второй план, то вы увидите достаточно неплохой фильмец. Есть драки, перестрелки, погони, неплохая графика. Как по мне фильм лучше чем предыдущий высер "генезис" и уж тем паче говнища "восстание машин". Тем кто к феминизму относится равнодушно, смотреть можно! p.s. Я честно не понимаю, неужели авторы не понимают, что продвигая этот феминизм, в фильмах и играх, они не только женщин унижают, но и франшизы гробят! Дааааа...… Expand

Alright guys, I think I’m done with the terminator franchise. I mean Terminator: Dark Fate wasn’t as bad as Terminator: Genisys but god damn was it more boring. I love that Linda Hamilton is back as Sarah Connor she is as much of a badass as the T2 and it’s awesome to have her back. I do like the R rating again but it’s just a more vulgar version of Genisys, obviously Arnold is back and he is still awesome and he is getting so old it’s crazy which then gets me to the part I don’t like, THE CGI. The CGI looks terrible I obviously get it for Arnold because he is in his 70s but still it’s bad looking it looks like the Resident Evil movies. If you saw the scene breakdown with the director Tim Miller with him, Linda, Arnold and James Cameron all coming back this should have been the next T2 but it’s not. Anyway he was describing how they did it and he just said this car was CG, this actor was CG, these sparks were CG my jaw was on the floor when he said this was CG, he was CG, MY **** IS CGI. Overall the movie is nothing terrible it’s got some funny parts good action, great cast, great score and good way to end the franchise. Btw I actually have no problem with the T-800 killing John Connor just me. Ranking Good.… Expand

I enjoyed this in the cinema. Would have rated it highly. Upon reflection however, the story seems a bit lame. Leta start off with why it isn’t good. 1. The CGI is overkill and just too much. 2. Character deaths that were unnecessary.. simply put from Tim Miller himself it was for shock value. 3. They tried to Star Wars force awakens this and ended up being the alien 3/ Pacific rimjob 2 of a movie.
4. Everything looks fake. Set designs look fake, too much use of green screens, a netflix style filter over top of everything. It just looks like beauty mode when you take a selfie. It doesn’t look real! 5. T Juan thousand is an awful villian and cant be taken seriously.
6. Regardless of it being rated R fake blood dosnt make a movie good. The original first 2 films were grounded in reality. Practical! 7. They took Terminator into a Fast & Furious over the top action for people with short attention spans. 8. Poor writing, poor script. T-800 loves drapes.
9. They didn’t do anything new with the story, they just tried to copy T2 and force awakened it.
10. Meant for turning your brain off and seeing **** explode. What made T1 and T2 so great is that it was intelligent! It was gritty! It was adult! The action was realistic! The Terminator was relentless! It cant be bargained with! It will not stop! Its basically a scifi/horro! Writing is a dumpster fire; characters are shallow; plot holes galore. Essentially, this movie didn't need to be made. It feels like a pretentious, virtue signaling vanity project for Cameron. Creepy agre-regressed Edward Furlong's John Connor is murdered 2 minutes into the film, by a Terminator we never knew about, years after melting all of the cyberdyne evidence. So Judgment Day didn't happen and Skynet never came to be, but a T-800 shows up and Murders John. Ok. All of this makes no difference, however, as humanity has a new hope; a young Mexican girl named Dani. Why is she the hope? Who knows? She is because James Cameron has told you she is. Why does humanity need a savior if Skynet is never created? Because Skynet is created, but it's called Legion and creates terminators that look exactly like the old terminators, in a future that looks exactly like the other future. So essentially, everything that normally happens in a Terminator movie happens here, but the people and names have changed for reasons that are not entirely explained or explanable, for what appears to be political correctness. We're in exactly the same position as before, for unexplainable reasons, solely so Girl-John Connor can be introduced for no reason whatsoever; because it's the same movie regardless.

So you see, this movie didn't need to happen. It is a bad version of T2, with a random female lead that exists solely so the movie can reset with a female lead.… Expand

This movie lost my attention about halfway through (and even struggled to keep it that long). It lacked an interesting plot beyond the usuals (yes, this is, sadly, where we've come to). It lacked an interesting plot beyond the usuals (yes, this is, sadly, where we've come to). They basically remade T2 but took away the emotion and physical palpability of the original masterpiece and substituted it with mundane bickering and surprisingly bad and overused CGI (not terrible, just a lot worse than I expected from a movie I would consider to be a high-profile flick). It suffers from the exact same thing as most modern action movies; the action is so intense and so choreographed, that it becomes silly. It lacks physical weight and feel.

Dark Fate is a moped on a racing track.

RIP Terminator franchise.… Expand

A mi me ha parecido una mierda como una catedral. Mas de lo mismo, pero mal, como las anteriores.

La historia tonta, copiando y en cutre, la paradoja temporal de T1. La protagonista cero credibilidad. A mi no me ha convencido en absoluto.

Básicamente es como otra vez Terminator 1, pero en plan copia china.

Lo único que me ha sorprendido es la aparición de Alicia Borrachero y sus 3 minutos de escena. Creo que también aparece otro actor español, pero no recuerdo su nombre.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For itself a good movie despite some flaws. What destroys the movie is that it is a hard reboot of the franchise. Yes you read it correctly. All previous movies are meaningless in less than 5 minutes even the good first 2 (Rest is spoiler free). Many people have quit watching the movie here and will give a 0/10 and I will not deny that they have a valid point. It was a mayor complaint by some critiques and most fans. Often it is credited as “The Last Jedi” of the Terminator franchise. I would give a 8/10 without it. In hindsight we could have predicted it as there was a certain character missing in the trailers and no one in the shown cast could fill the role. Increasingly there were rumors that it will ignore the divisive former movies and continue the story from Terminator 2 which is technically accurate. It was an insane decision to pull this off and the box office and fan reactions prove it. I must again say that it is a good movie with characters that I enjoy but it is hard to get as much invested as to the other characters we cared for decades. As remark: People always like long established characters more than new once especially when the new characters could not shine before such drastic events. After the reboot inducing events the story starts after a time gap in Mexico City 2020. A new Terminator is send back in time to kill Dani Ramos and a female soldier is send back to stop him. It is the standard formula for the franchise and the story develops as before with a few twists. Again I say I like the story but it has a few logical flaws that I cant go into details because of spoilers. Lets say the first 2 movies of the franchise made clear what would happen as follow up of a certain event that happened here at the beginning (And it did not happen). It lacks the consequences and with that weakens the menace. For the actors I have only praise and I blame the flaws on the script. Arnold Schwarzenegger returns in his signature role and gets some new facets. I really like the development but be warned it confused some fans and became a WTF moment for them. Linda Hamilton returns as Sarah Connor and delivers the best performance in the movie. Mackenzie Davis as Grace comes close to the best performance. Sadly the script weakens her performance but like I said I wont hold it against her. Natalia Reyes as Dani is good and delivers her role. Gabriel Luna as Gabriel / Rev 9 is excellent. Menacing and ruthless as he / his role has to be. A great cast and it is sad that they wont get the credit they deserve as the reboot overshadows everything by far. The visuals and special effects are as always remarkable. It is a thing each movie in the franchise does right. The action sequences are great too and I like how they use Graces special condition to get more out of it;-). Overall this enters the realm of good movies were a single (really stupid) plot choice ruined the experience. After the reboot inducing element you cant enjoy it as fan as you just feel the loss and potentially anger. It is a shame but cant be changed. I don't know how this could be accepted as the backlash would be unavoidable and clearly foreseeable. I think they need an idea checker that stops such wasteful mistakes.… Expand

This film is what The Force Awakens is for the Star Wars franchise: a lazy derivative movie based on the first beloved films. Dark Fate is almost copying T2 to the letter. Highway chase with a truck, liquid metal Terminator, etc. Nothing new in this movie that we haven't seen already in previous Terminator films. This movie is creatively worse than any other Terminator movie. Even Salvation and Genisys had something new to show.

But what's even worse, this movie is a SJW parody. Full of political correctness, pseudo-diversity, and feminist propaganda. It's like taking Tomb Raider or Charlie's Angels, writing the women out and replacing them with men. Ridiculous.

First they write John Connor's character out and replace him with a female leader that can't inspire nothing. Then Arnie's T-800 is sidelined for the vast majority of the movie (can't believe the stupid backstory they gave to this T-800) in favor of a 6 feet high lady trying to convince the audience she's a badass, and her enhanced abilities are explained by cybernetic augmentations. Yeah, a Resistance hiding underground have the infrastructure to perform cyberpunk surgeries while being rampaged by robots sent by a Skynet that's not named Skynet but acts as Skynet. Yeah, Skynet's also out, but only in name. Now it's called Legion LMAO

The only really good thing in this movie is Linda Hamilton, who really came back as T2's Sarah Connor. Yeah, she's back. Unfortunately Arnie's T-800 doesn't speak this line for the first time ever and it made me cringe.… Expand

A trash film that makes Terminator: Salvation a masterpiece.

There are plot holes up the yinyang too, not to mention that all weapons have no recoil and then they teach how to shoot and talk about recoil? Arnold is also a T-800, NOT aA trash film that makes Terminator: Salvation a masterpiece.

Only fair. What are the chances that the last Terminator and the last Rambo have the same love for retiring w/ Latina ladies? lol. I did not like the heavy handidness of the script w/ current politics. A Guatemalan is the new target.Only fair. Starting with a disappointing beginning which insults the previous films, followed by a series of same-same events and ending in one of the most obvious plot "twists" in years, all over not a great film. I'm glad I got discounted tickets
