Romantic comedic pseudo docudrama which is too silly to be dramatic and too leaden to be funny. It engages every clice of the romance genre with aplomb - so much so that it could almost be mistaken for satire. It engages every clice of the romance genre with aplomb - so much so that it could almost be mistaken for satire. However, it is ironic that the entire plot is predicated on the protagonist disengaging from standard ballroom technique and creating original moves, whilst the movie itself plods along in a predictable two dimensional style.… Expand

Generic and bland. Strictly Ballroom isn't nearly as colorful or inventive as the Baz Luhrmann filmmaking we've grown to love and hold a special place for.

Dull rom-com pseudo-docudrama. that is about a subject that it doesn't even take seriously (as it's a comedy). Shame it isn't in the least bit funny.
