Has some strong scenes and is well-filmed but also totally unbelievable at times.

I thought this was a charming family film with a great story (based on the novella by Colin Thiele). Just to warn that it's sad in places, so potentially not for younger kids.

.A film for everyone

A visually stunning Australian film that has worldwide appeal for people of ALL ages. The themes about family, friendship, love, loss and loneliness are universal and rounded out with a message of hope for a better future. This is a throughly enjoyable and emotional "retelling" of Colin Thiele's book of the same name which has been in print for over 55 years. This is not a remake - this is a retelling and should not be compared to the 1976 version. This film stands on its on merit, it is beautifully shot and superbly acted. It's a remarkable film that will stay with you forever.

Second film adaptation, after Henri Safran's 1976 one, of the 1964 classic of Colin Thiele's children's literature, which has also become an opera for theater and video games, it is a quite mediocre fairy tale full of good environmentalistic intentions that does not benefit from the comparison with other coming-of-age novels together with an animal or with the more adult and mature "The Pelican Brief" (Pakula 1993).

This is a nice, interesting family friendly drama film set in Australia. I liked the cinematography and the musical score, plus the little boy's acting was very good.
