It was worth all the hype it deserves which makes it another one of the best of this year and the only movie with such a score automatically makes this one of the best films of this year in my opinion. What makes this film truly deserves the score are the surprises it gives us. Like literally, they are completely unexpected and aren't forced onto the film unlike every other film that were released this year I see as a joke. To tell what it attempts to do is completely difficult to say in a couple of words because they keep changing as the film progresses to its end and I got to say, it was worth waiting for another great film of this year. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is like a kombucha. It has a sharp taste in there somewhere, but it's still good, and very healthy. Acting is great. People complain about Rose, but I think she's a really good character. Her and Finn's side story could have been better, though. It could have been tweaked to have a bit more impact, as well as the fact that nothing really comes of it in the end. I mean, I guess Phasma dies... but really there isn't much outcome to that plotline. The rest of the movie is fantastic, though. The film subverts expectations in a careful way, being radically different to what we know, but in a way that, in my opinion, still feels incredibly respectful of what came before. (not like Rise of Skywalker's random shamble of ideas coalesced into a confusing mess of spectacle that retcons the plot of half the previous movies.) With fantastically written characters (Luke especially, fight me) and a phenomenal final act, it's a movie that, while I couldn't call it a masterpiece, is great. There is a strange feeling throughout, though, of a weird unenjoyable-ness relative to the movie's quality. Overall, great movie.

It’s impressive how much better this movie is in comparison to the prequels yet people seem to think that the sequels are worse? This tries to have deep themes, change up the pattern and it actually have something to say.

A divisive film that hasn't been understood and that doesn't accept third ways, is either beautiful or it sucks. I like all aspects of Ep 8 except for the over density of the script, resulting in an unjustifiably longest Star Wars film to date. Resistance is on the brink of destruction. And again, a distant, distant galaxy. Luke Skywalker returns after a huge number of years, back to the screens, and it's hard to judge whether it turned out well or badly. The film itself was shot perfectly, the script also turned out to be fascinating and almost 2 and a half hours fly by unnoticed. What caught my eye was stupid and unnecessary jokes in many places. When the intensity of passions seems to be already at the limit and such a joke flies out and immediately everything goes out. Otherwise, The Last Jedi is a good continuation of the franchise with, as always, a lot of fights and various planets with creatures. Expand

The last Jedi:

Go off SIS!!!!!!!!! Rey is the definition of slay. The way she totally Owned that boomer Han was exactly what feminism is all about. Sure Han Solo had mastered space travel and knew the ins and outs of his own space ship, but the second my gurl got the sticks she showed that white boy what’s up. Even showed him something he didn’t know about his own ship #girlboss. I totally loved Luke owning up to his misogynistic ways and being a total beta boy. Only complaint is the lack of LGBTQGFY women of color smashing the patriarchy. 11/10

I reallyAs I've said before, we're not all film critics, and listening to whatever someone says online about a film and treat it as fact. I definitely enjoyed this film. Not my favorite in the sequel trilogy, but an enjoyable film overall. I really do wish they had explored Rose more, and that the casino scenes were a bit more fleshed out. The loss of the Admiral was truly painful for me, and it did suffer from the same problem all of the second movies in each Star Wars trilogy suffer: long, drawn out scenes that otherwise feel less important to the story overall. Personally, I don't see the reason for the insane hate for this movie, especially when Episode 2 exists. Could it have been better? Sure, but so can every Star Wars film. And for those who have complained about politics, every Star Wars film contains political themes going back to the originals, so saying that this movie has made Star Wars "political" shows how little people pay attention to history and film. Overall, I liked this movie. It didn't blow me away, but it was interesting, and the ways they really explored the force reminded me of Episode 5 with Yoda. It's definitely not Episode 5, but it's good. Expand

HOLY ****
So, I may be the biggest **** in the multiverse, but by every single rewatch, The Last Jedi gets better and better. And now, in 2022, I even feel bad for **** hating this movie back when it came out. Compared to the 9th episode, it's amazing, and, imo this is the best of the entire trilogy. It's like another example for the Watchmen-effect. The film ages like fine wine. At least, this movie got huge balls, great action sequences, a brave plot and some story as well!!! Kylo's character was still great, Rey was still annoying af, and Luke was still destroyed in many aspects. But for some reason, the film feels great. It works. And it provided an excellent foundation for a never-done 9th episode. It's flawed, really, but not a mess. There was some complete **** as well in the movie (Holdo, Canto Bight), but at least they weren't pointless. Overall, I'd say it's much better than we remember, but still "only" a good movie. And I can't believe I'm writing this, but now I almost agree with the critics who praised The Last Jedi "anno". And it gets a 7 from me. Somehow. Don't ask. No idea why.

It's quite an engrossing watch, even though I can't claim I followed all the plot intricacies (I'll leave that to others). It did feel like it covers quite a bit of ground, as it were. There are some thought provoking pieces of dialogue present and even some amusing comedic moments, as well as, of course, the numerous fast paced battle scenes. I thought the different landscapes were intriguing. Nearly everywhere seems to have big sweeping vistas. There's one scene in particular towards the end which was quite a gripping watch - two big characters facing off against one another but I'll say no more, so as not to provide 'full blown' spoilers.

Yes I'd recommend this to fans of action sci-fi films and anyone looking for a CGI filled bit of entertainment for the 2 hour and 25 minute run time it lasts (if you stop just as the credits start).

But in the realms of the Star Wars saga, it 100% is. The Last Jedi is everything a Star Wars movie is/should be, and goes even beyond that. Its themes are woven into the fabric of the story, so that while the plot moves forwards there isn't a single moment on screen that does not teach our characters a lesson - or shows that they have failed at learning one. Mark Hamill delivers his best performance as Luke in what is, in my opinion, one of the best takes on bringing back a legacy character to a sequel. Even better: the movies takes unexpected turns for the viewer, that yet make perfect sense for the characters. Contrary to what has been said too many times, it follows perfectly and expands upon most of what was set up in The Force Awakens, while pulling the saga forwards in new thematic directions. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For all who don't know me I'm a Star Wars fan. I watch the movies/shows, read the books/comics, play the games, and on occasion have been known to write some fan fiction. However going into this movie I knew that some things with this franchise needed to change. Don't get me wrong The Force Awakens is my favorite Star Wars film that has come out of the Disney era, but nonetheless I was conscious of how it stuck to the template of the original Star Wars, for better or worse, and hoped that this film would find a way to break away from that cycle and cover new ground. I say all this because I feel like the audience members reading my review deserve to know where I'm coming from as I write this and with that said I'll continue on to tell you that unlike the internet, I actually enjoy this movie. First off I want to talk or write about what this movie does so well: defining the characters of Rey and Kylo Ren. In the previous film Rey is a orphan who was left on the planet Jakku. Although she knows that they're never coming back for her, she holds on to the hope that they are really right their with her in the form of her mentors Han Solo and now Luke Skywalker. Parallel to that is our villain Kylo Ren, who knows who is family is and feels let down by them with the weight of trying to live up to their legacies. People either expect really great or really terrible things out of him and as a result he's conflicted, being caught in between both the light and the dark side of the force. This causes him to idolize his grandfather, the fearsome Darth Vader, while he misses his parents. In the end he chooses the dark over the light murdering his father, but he is left unsatisfied and broken. Both characters are pulled together and realize that they each have more in common then they think causing them to stand together as Ren kills Snoke to fight off his elite guards. When the dust settles Rey has to confront her greatest fear: that her parents are in fact nobodys who didn't give a crap about her. This revelation is great for the progression of the story as it is accompanied by the theme: you don't have to come from somewhere to be somebody. A real refresher for anyone whose been a fan for a while. We also see how Kylo refuses Rey's invitation to join her on the light side and how she refuses to join him on the dark. They are polar opposites. Kylo killed Snoke since he was the last person in his path for power.

But what caused Ben Solo to become Kylo Ren? It was his uncle Luke who thought he could prevent another Vader by neutralizing his own nephew and now must content with his failures. At the start he is a tragic figure who has made the ultimate mistake. The idealists ideals have failed and so he has given up. This upsets Rey as this is not what she or the audience was expecting out of the legendary Luke Skywalker, but through the arrival of Rey and a nice pep talk from puppet, not cgi, but puppet Yoda he finds his way and reconnects with the force. Distracting the First Order so that the Resistance can escape to fight another day. Now with all that said, typed, let's discuss the Resistance in this movie. We see them on the ropes throughout, however Finn and Rose go on a side quest where they end up saving a few fathiers and because of that, "It's all worth it," while their friends are dying at the other side of the galaxy. Face slap. Hey at least from this we get the introduction of D J who is a great character, but that could have been accomplished with so many better plot points. Finn also seems to take a step back from where we left off with him in the last movie, however I understand that he was just in it to save Rey the last time and that this time around he was committee to the larger cause. Poe for the majority of this movie is stuck aboard the Raddus unable to help which is an interesting position for his character to be in, but he that entire position as well as Canto Bight could have all been avoided if Holdo had just mentioned that they had some kind of plan, ANY kind of plan. I also want to mention that Hux and Phasma especially are wasted in this film before going on to compliment Rian's overall vision, John William's score, the cinematography, and the work of the actors before I go on to give this movie a 7.5/10.

I like what Ryan Johnson did hear, it gave more flavor to the new films coming out, while also having reverence to the old films. The characters are great, and I didn't mind Rose as much as other people did, not a wonderful character, but she still tries to be helpful, even if she is very annoying in her decision to save Phinn in the end. But yeah, overall a good movie. It's not trying to be another A New Hope or Return Of The Jedi, but it is trying to make its own identity which is great and I really appreciate. I wish the newer Star Wars films would also try this. Expand

Excellent, one of my favourites from the franchise so far.

'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' makes for an exciting 152 minutes! Sure it probably could've been a little shorter, but at no point did I personally feel it drag. The cast give great performances, while the music and whole look of the film is extremely pleasant.

Daisy Ridley and John Boyega do their thing and are enjoyable once again, Ridley particularly impressed me. I also like Adam Driver in this, while it's always pleasing to see Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher involved. As for newcomers, Benicio del Toro and Kelly Marie Tran stand out.

There are also some incredible shots, the entire sequence at the end thrilled me - there's a particular part involving Laura Dern (even if her character, overall, isn't all that good) that looks utterly superb.

All in all, I felt very satisfied and very entertained after watching this. Quality film, in my eyes anyway.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. despite all the negative reviews, this movie is actually really good. if you learn to look past your own expectations, you'll see that this is the logical progression of the star wars universe. After their defeat, the first order again goes on the hunt and destroys almost all of the resistance fleet. The good guys are on the run now and their last hope is Luke Skywalker. The thing with Luke in this movie is that he feels real. He doesn't feel like a soulless jedi knight like the prequels, but rather like an actual human being who faces regret and depression due to his past mistakes. He isn't the saving grace the resistance was hoping for, and it's up to Rey to convince him to return. He sees the potential that Rey possess and refuses to train her because he isn't afraid of her, he's afraid of himself. He knows that he won't be able to trust himself when training her, like his last encounter with Ben solo. Another thing this movie does really well is expand the character of kylo ren. He feels regret and is second guessing his action of killing his father, and snoke sees it. Kylo feels like a tortured soul in this movie, and the audience actually feels bad for this horrible person. I also really enjoyed the duel on crait. We get the big return of Luke, but not through his lightsaber abilities, but his connection to the force. There's a lot of hard decisions that were made in the creation of this movie, and I commend Rian Johnson for making a lot of the right choices. Unlike the other star wars movies that these 'die hard' fans scream about being the best, this movie has a moral. It shows us the cost of war, and how even though there's a winning side, there are companies and corporations that are winning even more.

With that being said, there are still some things I'd change about this movie. I love the inclusion of force ghost yoda, but the puppet looks a little off. Also, I feel like the death of phasma wasn't earned and felt a little forced.

It subverts your expectations. There are twists. Huge twists, even. Personally, I enjoyed it a lot.

We learn more about Kylo Ren and Luke in this movie. Kylo Ren has an interesting backstory. The Force is expanded upon and we learn about a new Force ability. There are a lot of action scenes. Very cool lightsaber scenes and space battle scenes, there's never a dull moment. There are some funny quips here and there, which I enjoyed. There were also some moments where I actually felt emotional.

All in all, I think The Last Jedi is a fun Star Wars movie. I've seen it multiple times and the more I see it, the more I seem to love it.

Disney realised that 'never change a winning formula' wasn't in place anymore. They needed new values and leave the predictable (and almost milked) concepts behind. The simplicity of good versus evil makes place for something more nuanced. A lot of people will hate this movie. I can only applause it.

By the time the movie ended, it had brought pure catharsis. One advice: go empty-minded and enjoy the ride.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. *** This movie hurt, but it was good. I really couldn't tell where it was going, and that was amazingly refreshing for a Star Wars film. Granted, it wasn't perfect. Some of the writing felt clunky (but really, clunky writing is as much a part of Star Wars as lightsabers?) some of the jokes were great, others felt forced. It felt like the film was overstuffed, too many characters, too many sub plots. The Last Jedi would have been a stellar eight episode tv series, too bad. But still awesome. Loved where they took Luke, loved everything from the island (especially that last bit with the fire). But more than anything, I love that fascists hate this movie. It makes me love this movie SO much more. I'm giving it an extra point just for this. Expand
