It not only flawlessly continues the compelling story of "Star wars", but gives the old characters much more depth, introduces several new iconic characters like Yoda, Boba Fett and Lando Calrissian, and marks Darth Vader as the greatest movie villain of all time. The new soundtrack is absolutely beautiful, the lightsaber duel is much better choreographed than its predecessor and the battle of Hoth remains a feast for eyes, regarding special effects, to this day. The darker tone of this film, the probably best-known and biggest plot twist ever and the evil Darth Vader (masterfully spoken by James Earl Jones) make "The empire strikes back" the best entry of our beloved franchise and, in my opinion, the greatest movie of all time!… Expand

The voice over performance from Frank Oz was great. The visuals, puppets, and animatronics were gorgeous especially Yoda and R2-D2. The writing, storyline and plot were all done spectacularly. The musical score was amazing just like in the first one. This is my 2nd favorite Star Wars movie and one of my favorite movies of all time. A+… Expand

I love Han and Leia's relationship, especially the "I love you I know" scene. The music is incredible and always makes me super nostalgic. Yoda, Chewie, C3PO and R2 are some of the best supporting characters of all time. The final fight on Bespin is possibly my favorite scene in Star Wars, period. This film is the continuation of the story of the first. The war between the rebels and the Empire continues, while Darth Vader Luke demand throughout the galaxy. The war between the rebels and the Empire continues, while Darth Vader Luke demand throughout the galaxy. Directed by Irvin Kershner and written by Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan, this film has the participation of the same actors from the first film.

The film inherits most of the qualities of his predecessor. It has a carefully chosen cast and consistent performances, with some emphasis on the work of Harrison Ford, actor who was already highlighted in the first film and now consolidates his success. Action scenes are excellent, thought of meticulous way and the fight scenes with lightsaber remind us some great duels of piracy and swashbuckling films. The special visual and sound effects are the best that existed at the time and fulfill their role with great merit. The only difference between this film and the latest films of the saga is, in fact, this technical issue, given the huge advance that, in a few decades, the techniques and special effects achieved. The soundtrack was again in charge of John Williams, which continues the excellent work started in the first film of the saga. In fact, the first main theme of the chords of the saga became one of the songs that instinctively comes to mind of people when they think of film music, the same way as the "March of Darth Vader" has become one of most songs instinctively associated with the image of any movie villain. The point of greatest merit of this movie is the script. It is a deeper script, more psychological and intense than the script of the first film, and this contributed decisively to the success of it, and the franchise itself. The use of cinematography and action is just one part of why this movie is critically acclaimed. In my life, I have seen many movies (good and bad), but it is rare to find a sequel that is just as good if not better than the first one. Luke in this movie is the best Luke Skywalker we have seen in any type of media, the way Hamill performs when he is training with Yoda on Dagobah, the way he battles Vader on Cloud City is just a testament to his greatness. There are very little movies that have their B plot just as exciting as their A plot, it is incredible. This movie just gets better with age and it never gets boring. From the beginning scene on Hoth to the final scene with Luke and Leia, it is a joyride, to say the least. 10/10… Expand

The visuals are increased and the universe feels a lot bigger, the story has pacing so fast and the plot is so entertaining the movie feels like 30 minutes. The character work is superb and I have never been so invested in characters like this. The darker tone and twists and turns make it even better and The Writing and dialogue feels natural.This film is the perfect sequel because it expands on the original and also introduces new ideas without sacrificing what made it great.… Expand

But why limit oneself to this one? The entire Original Trilogy of Star Wars is an epic tale of an evil empire, underdog heroes and space wizards. Try to catch it in its original, correct theatrical version, and enjoy everything from Han shooting first to Yub Nub and all that happens in between!
Just be ready for the Star Wars experience to take a nose-dive from there if you decide to keep following after Return of the Jedi. Catch the Prequel Trilogy for a ho-hum experience with high highs and low lows, then if you absolutely must, allow Disney to stab you in the heart with the Sequel Trilogy.… Expand

This movie is indescribable. An incredible exploration of wonder in a film. Star Wars's Magnum Opus. I have absolutely no qualms about calling this not only the objective best Star Wars movie but my favourite movie of all time.

It's honestly so beautiful watching this movie on the big screen and after 40 years this movie holds up very well, it's so good.

The Empire Strikes Back is probably the best Star Wars movie ever and it's honestly a masterpiece and a half.It's honestly so beautiful watching this movie on the big screen and after 40 years this movie holds up very well, it's so good.

The Empire Strikes Back is probably the best Star Wars movie ever and it's honestly a masterpiece and a half.

The movie's got a brilliant plot, which pretty much follows on from the New Hope. It's pretty much about Darth Vader (David Prowse) making Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamil) turn to the dark side.

So, Yoda (Frank Oz) trains Luke to be a jedi knight so he doesn't turn to the dark side.

While Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) and RD-D2 (Kenny Baker) try to escape from the imperial fleet before it's too late.

We later get introduced to a new character called Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams), who's the owner of Cloud City and who's also good old friends with Han Solo, we get to see more of his character throughout this movie.

Also, the acting from all the actors/actresses are all honestly amazing and they all do a great job in their roles throughout this brilliant movie. There's even a lot of heart and soul with these characters throughout this movie, especially with Yoda. He's got some great quotes which are very inspirational and a lot of them are very memorable.

The love and hate relationship, which Han Solo and Princess Leia have got throughout this movie is honestly beautifully shown and it's very great.

The dialogue which is given from all the characters throughout this movie is all honestly great.

There's so many great comedy moments throughout this movie, either that being a scene where Han Solo and Leia are flirting with each other or it being a scene with Yoda, Luke and R2-D2 being hilarious.

I even love how we get to see little sneak peaks to what Darth Vader looks like underneath the helmet throughout this movie, it's honestly brilliant.

Finally, the pacing which this movie's got is honestly so good and it's so great for the build ups for certain moments.

The cinematography which was shot by Peter Suschitzky is honestly beautiful and he's done a beautiful job on capturing the scenes so well.

The score which was composed by the man, the myth and the legend John Williams is honestly so beautiful. It works so well with the scenes it's been placed with, he's honestly the best at composing some of the greatest scores for the greatest movies ever.

The action scenes are all honestly great, especially that last one, that one's got some beautiful choreography in it and the music which was composed by John Williams goes so well with it.

Overall, The Empire Strikes Back is honestly a masterpiece and a half and it's the best Star Wars movie to this day. The movie's got a brilliant plot, amazing acting from all the cast and it's even got some great dialogue from all of the characters. It's even got some great humour which works very well, some very good pacing, some very inspirational and very funny quotes. There's even some beautiful cinematography, a beautiful soundtrack which was composed by the legend John Williams and some very great action scenes. I'd honestly recommend to watch this one straight after you've watched A New Hope, it's honestly worth the watch.… Expand

after the fun movie star wars " a new hope " we get this way darker and more serious film! in the first movie darth vader was a badass, but now he is even more badass, this guy is killing peaple left and right ! you feel the threat of the empire ! our heroes are losing all the time wich makes it so exciting, yoda is such a fun fun charcter! and the " no, i am your father " is so epic and iconic !

Star Wars blew audiences away in 1977 to universal acclaim, but The Empire Strikes Back, is what I consider the greatest sequel of all time, there is nothing wrong with this film, the Hoth sequence is tense and on the edge of your seat action, Han and Leia's love story is great, Luke's training on Dagobah is very interesting, and Darth Vader and the Empire is all great, now normally the Special Edition ruined the films but this Special Edition isn't bad, which surprised me. This film also has the most stakes, this is all shown in the Luke vs Vader Duel at the end. This duel is terrifying because Luke is fighting for survival. And probably the biggest twist in cinema.... No, I am your Father! Chills, just chills. Remember when I said this was the greatest sequel of all time, well it's not just that, it's the greatest film of all time, I think I've said all I have needed to.… Expand

The most artfully done film of the Star Wars universe. I'm a fan of the original trilogy and the sequel trilogy (and have done my best to forget the prequels) but the depth of Empire Strikes Back is unmatched. The Last Jedi would be my second choice.

Such a great film. It is brilliantly written, acted and made. The soundtrack is outstanding and the characters are amazing too. It also has quite possibly the best plot twist of any film to date.

But everything else is great, the constant fear of Vader for all of the villains as well as the heroes. Love Cloud city, especially how Chewie acts and Boba Fett.
