An action packed film fitting to end the prequel trilogy, it has an over reliance on CGI, a perhaps rushed story eager to fit in all the action, but it captures an adventurous and new Star Wars feel, worth any fan's time

Una muy buena película. Narra el acabose del jedi más poderoso de la galaxia de una forma bastante acorde a la visión de Lucas respecto a su obra maestra de 1977. Muy emotiva y de acción satisfactoria. Totalmente recomendable. Diez de diez.

Directed and written by George Lucas, it has the participation of Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen, Christopher Lee, Samuel L. Jackson and Ian McDiarmid, among other actors.

This is the last film in the second trilogy and, therefore, binds directly to the original film of the first one. The script is good and establishes this connection in an interesting and credible way. The actors performance wasn't very good and this is, perhaps, one of the worst elements of the film. Natalie Portman disappointed, with a dull interpretation, as Hayden Christensen, who achieved a poor and too theatrical performance. On the other hand, Ian McDiarmid knew how to surprise and gave his character a huge dose of cruelty and coldness, capable of raising the skin of any audience. The special visual and sound effects were perfect. The costumes, make-up and scenarios didn't disillusioned Star Wars fans. Thus, Star Wars ended his second trilogy of a fruitful and positive way, up to the early films of the saga, and the wishes of the public.

The origin story of Darth Vader and the Empire is a beautifully tragic one, and there was a lot riding on Episode III being the one that would save the prequel trilogy from the lackluster, meandering storytelling of the first two installments. Thankfully, it mostly delivered.

From the opening sequence of Revenge of the Sith, it's clear that the filmmakers have a much stronger grasp on their ambitions. The special effects in this one are leaps and bounds better than those of Episodes I and II, and it results in a much more lively, vibrant, believable visual portrayal of the galaxy we came to love in the original films. Though Revenge certainly does still suffer from the same trend set by its predecessors of digitally constructing entire sets even when it's completely unnecessary, it's not quite as distracting as it was in previous films. For the most part, it works. In addition to this, John Williams' score (as always) is breathtaking. It's arguably the best of all the Star Wars films, adding beautiful emotion to the tragedy of the fall of the Jedi.

Speaking of tragedy, the plot behind the prequels has always been exactly that, but it just was not as compelling as it could have been in Episodes I and II. In Episode III, the plot develops much more quickly and it's fascinating to witness how the dark side of the force manages to seduce everyone and tangle people of all sides of the conflict in their own good intentions. The moving story is further anchored by strong character arcs that make every individual equally relatable, even the villains.

Despite its many strengths that make it stand out among the Star Wars films, however, Revenge of the Sith does suffer from many flaws that it just couldn't shake from its predecessors. The most prominent of these flaws are the acting and dialogue. Both are still much better and more believable than they were in the previous films. Ian McDiarmid is creepy and effective as the Chancellor and Ewan McGregor sometimes shows plenty of meaningful emotion as Obi-Wan. But the line delivery is still just awful at times and the dialogue is written in such a way that it seems that Lucas doesn't trust his actors to convey emotion on their own. Every character must say what they are feeling all of the time, and it's not believable. It's forced and still worthy of cringe and laughter.

Revenge of the Sith is not a bad movie. I would even argue that it's an above-average one. It has a lot of rough patches but most of them are smoothed out by chilling visuals, some forceful character development, and a politically astute narrative that's surprisingly thought-provoking and intelligent.

So I recently rewatched the entire Star Wars Prequels, including this one. So I figured, why not write a review?

First of all, I am a BIG Star Wars fan so I would love this movie even if it would be really bad, which it isn't. Allow me to explain. I see a lot of people complaining about the acting of Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker). I thought he played the character formiddable. Anakin is supposed to be monotone, dark and impatient. He played this perfectly. Even George Lucas himself said, and I quote: "Poor Hayden. His perfomance was great, they just didn't like the character". The same goes for Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and the other characters. The story was refreshing. I never saw a story fold out like this one. It was not the best, but it was certaintly not bad. It did stick with me after the movie but the build up still feels slow especially since we have had 2 movies before this one explaining the story of Anakin. Effects were great, CGI is great (during the time of making). Film technical I don't have any problem with it. But, there's one thing that does bother me, a lot. And that is that the technology in this movie is so much better in ROTS that in ANH that it looks unrealistic. The ships are more viable and better defended, the troops have more weapons and look stronger and overal the combat technology looks advanced. I know ANH came out about 30 years prior to the prequels and that thus the effect and stuff look worse but that's not what im talking about. Im talking about the machine we see and how it operates. Just rewatch the movies and you will see my point.

7/10 it's great long live Darth Jar Jar.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. An absolutely fantastic and heart-wrenching conclusion to the Prequel Trilogy. It had to work to make Anakin a quality character after Episode II, but boy, did it. He's legitimately more likeable and relatable in the movie where he turns into a planet destroying supervillain than in the movie where he's supposed to just be a goodhearted teen with anger issues. It's beautifully terrible to see Palpatine manipulating him, promising him help just to take power for himself... The visual design and effects are breathtaking. (Seriously, how is this the one Star Wars movie not to be nominated for Best Visual Effects?) The worldbuilding is fantastic. The writing and characters are the best they've been since Vader and Luke in Return of the Jedi. It does have a few flaws: the Kashyyk part feels a bit like fanservice/filler, the very final moments of Anakin's fall are a tad confusing, Padme's death feels a bit dumb, and the Order 66 scene is less impactful if you haven't seen the CG Clone Wars show, which hadn't come out yet by the time of the film's release. In my opinion, it's a more significantly flawed film than Episode I. But it's highs are so very high... The score, as in all of the Prequels, is fantastic, and when Obi-Wan says "You were my brother, Anakin! I loved you!"... Oh my gosh. This is truly a beautiful film in so many ways.
9/10.

It starts out with the long-awaited death of the Sith Lord's dark apprentice Count Dooku and the end of the fiendish droid leader General Grievous. It then takes an unexpected turn as the Supreme Chancellor Palpatine slowly comes to reveal his true identity to the Jedi: the Sith Lord Darth Sidious! Things then start to heat up as Sidious pushes Anakin Skywalker to turn to the dark side. Anakin eventually gives in and becomes the one and only Darth Vader. The clone army is then turned into the storm troopers and, along with Vader, turn against the Jedi and kill them off, leaving only Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and Senator Organa (who have hidden from the storm troopers) alive. Sidious then sends Darth Vader to the volcanic Mustafar system, where he finds Obi-Wan, whom he challenges. His wife, the beautiful Padme Amidala, tries to intervene, but Anakin, twisted by the dark side, is convinced that she is only trying to help Obi-Wan kill him and force chokes her nearly to death. And so, the battle between Anakin and Obi-Wan begins. Meanwhile, Yoda confronts the evil Lord Sidious. Yoda starts out strong, but the Sith Lord won't be beaten that easily. Soon, Sidious unleashes his true power. Yoda is overwhelmed by his power; yet, he rushes to safety, hides and escapes. Back on Mustafar, the battle between the two Jedi knights and former friends rages on. Anakin pulls of some good moves, but ends up being burnt in the lava while Obi-Wan walks away, convinced that all hope for Anakin is lost. Meanwhile, Sidious is able to reorganize the Republic into a Galactic Empire with himself as the Emporer. He then travels to Mustafar and finds the disoriented Anakin on the ground. We now learn that this is how he got the breathing mask and suit he wears in the old movies. We, then, find Padme giving birth to her (and Anakin's) twin babies: Luke and Leia Skywalker. Because of the prior damage Anakin did to her, Padme barely survived to give birth, but afterwards died. Vader and the Emporer are then seen overseeing the construction of the Death Star. To ensure that the Emporer does not sense their presence, the three remaining Jedi seperate Luke and Leia from each other and go into hiding themselves, knowing that their attempt to use Anakin (the chosen one) to finish off the Sith had failed. Finally you must A True Gem in the Star Wars Universe Viewing the saga through the eyes of a Star Wars fan, I have rated this movie based on many factors. First you must understand the story. Second, you must understand the entertainment. Finally you must understand the message. The story seems to blend and transition well into Episode 4: A New Hope. Never before (in my opinion) has a SW movie been so entertaining. I truly was overwhelmed witnessing the final movie fold open before my eyes. Not only were the graphics/Visual Effects truly beyond their time, but the whole movie in general had humor and scenes of battle that entertained me to the very core. Finally, the message that this movie brought was unlike any other. A message of hope. A message of integrity. A message of honor and duty to ones beliefs. A message of redemption to come, which Lucas seems to implement at the end of every episode. The only downside I saw to this movie were perhaps 3 lines quoted by Hayden (Anakin Skywalker) that I felt were slightly childish and untalented. However, actors make mistakes, and these mistakes I am speaking of weren't even worth saying more than I already have. They were minor. Overall he played an amazing roll in the transition towards Darth Vader. I give this movie a 9.4/10, feeling slightly unique compared to the many other reviewers who have reviewed this movie based on the common "review methods" instead of reviewing it as a "star wars movie." Sure, the writing is weak, the dialog is almost laughable at times and the characters are mostly flimsy. Revenge of the Sith, though, is still the third-best Star Wars film, if only for the opening space battle scene, the Anakin-Padme staring out the windows at each other across the city scene, and the final Obi-Wan vs. Anakin fight alone. Talk to a child who was my age when I first experienced A New Hope (about 4 years old) and you'll see that these new fans are jazzed about the new Trilogy the same way. These are kids movies, afterall, and the toys sales and video games prove it. Expand

You say you've been let down by Lucas time and time again, yet you still give him money to see his movies. If what you're saying is true, you really don't stand for your beliefs. The bottom line is: if you weren't a Starwars fan going into Episode III, you really didn't have any business being there in the first place. If you're like me, grew up with the films, and actually hold some things sacred, this movie gave you everything you wanted to see and more. If you went into this movie expecting good acting......well i just don't know what to tell you. To be honest, this movie could have been a lot worse and I still would have enjoyed it. After all, I'm a StarWars fan. However, it wasn't. It was a rich story changing pace as it went and considering it was the end of a 6 episode trilogy, I'd say it wrapped everything up nicely. If you've been waiting since your childhood to see the Emperor fight Yoda, the birth of Luke Skywalker, and the first breath of Darth Vader, you've come to the right place. If you're looking to bash George Lucas which is what some people set out to do long ago, save your money and just say what you said about the last two. No one's listening anyway. Expand

There's no question that George Lucas on his own cannot write good dialogue as some of it here is cringe inducing terrible and since this is when all the story threads come together, it's all the more disappointing when it doesn't land. Episode III is saved by its stunning visuals, music and action set pieces that easily make it the most entertaining and somewhat satisfying entry to this trilogy of Star Wars films. Expand

At least, Lucas fulfills his promise of making a film that 'replicates' the spark of the original trilogy. Nevertheless, something is always missing. The problem lies with Lucas himself. He is more of a great businessman / producer than a director. He pays more attention to his CGI creations than his actors. That's why 'younger' directors such as James Cameron and Peter Jackson have exceeded him at this point. They always bring the 'best' from their actors, making their blockbusters more emotionally resonant. AVATAR has a very simple storyline for instance, but it works because of its actors (and golly gee, they're not even A listers). Revenge of the Sith works in some way because of the nostalgia factor. But it never, ever reach the same heights achieved by the original three. Expand

Even haters of the prequels will admit that this is a good movie or at least an improvement (Some only to themselves;-). All plots come to a mostly satisfying conclusion. There are even less wooden dialogues (One of the main complaints by many). The movie starts strong and doesn't decline. I like the plots and must admit that the Jedi are partly to blame for their downfall (See also Bonus Star Wars knowledge). I will not say they are evil. They are paralysed by their dogmas and cant evolve. The order needed reforms and Anakin would be the right person with Obi Wan and other as guidance. They fall into the trap to easily. I like the portrait of Anakin's struggle. He tries to save his loved ones by means he would never consider otherwise. This is something anyone can relate. Question yourself what you would do save your family, friends or loved ones. Palpatine (Ian Mc Diarmid) is a brilliant plotter and here he can shine. You can see him enjoy the fruition of his plans. If I have a complaint I would say he should make the galaxy a paradise for everyone. This would be an even more ultimate victory and would taint the Jedi order forever (Example: Do you know the story of Darth Sidious the great? The most liked emperor of all times. The man that ended slavery and poverty in the galaxy. The man they erected statues and named hospitals / universities on each world?;-). But this don't affect my rating. My two real complaints are the high ground advantage (Works not on one on one. It works in army size conflicts) and Padmes (Natalie Portman) fate. The explanation for her demise is ridiculous. Like so many times I don't blame the actress. She does an awesome job in this movie. It is the script for this scene that lessens the experience. I will also praise Obi Wan (Ewan Mc Gregor) for his role. I hope they make an Obi Wan movie (At the time of writing it looks like they cancelled it). Then there are the intense battles. . They are the best in all Star Wars. Of cause like always there is the score from John Williams. He is a staple for film music and a real genius. Overall the prequel trilogy is not as bad as fans made it. The new trilogy will even improve this statement. I really enjoyed this movie and did even rewatch it. Bonus Star Wars knowledge: Did you know that being a Sith is totally legal by republic law (Even long before the prequels)? It is freedom of religion. Attacking some one on base of this alone would be comparable to a hate crime in our world. The best traps are the ones that the targets will not avoid comes to my mind. Expand

Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.... the strongest Star Wars prequel, in my opinion. What I liked about the film the most wasn't the action or the special effects (though those aspects remained spectacular as ever), but rather the character development, which was lacking in the previous two films. This movie was truly about Anakin and his transformation into to the Dark Side of the Force, and the movie consistently built up to the classic final showdown between him and his former master Obi-Wan, as well to the born of Darth Vader. "Attack of the Clones" was already quietly setting up that big plot point. We saw Anakin frustrated for not being elected as a Jedi master by the Council, and his dilemma on the nightmares he's been having about Padmé's death. From that, he becomes easily manipulated by Palpatine who puts the former against the Jedi.

Now, there's some things I found myself disliking. The acting for instance was mostly bad. I didn't buy Hayden Christensen's performance when Padmé told Anakin she was pregnant. It was also really hard not to notice the over-the-top acting from some characters such as Senator Palpatine, when he killed Samuel Jackson's character, and screamed excessively, way longer than he should have.

Of course, with all of this we had action, pretty nice action sequences combined with eye candy visuals, and sweet color palette. The lightsaber never gets old, and the sound effects were really great. While I'm not a Star Wars fan (at least not yet), I enjoyed much more the story arc around this time, and all that mythology paid off.

Final Score: 7.5/10

Ewan McGregor is such a great actor and is easily the highlight of the entire film but the rest of the cast is really good too. I love the beginning of the movie. I loved Anakin's fight with Dooku. But this movie was just a little off or it would be perfect. I think Anakin killing children was a bit too much of a turn for me. It wasn't believable. I think his turn to the dark side could have been better overall. It works but it could have been better. Darth Sidious manipulates him so much and Anakin wants to save Padme. But I don't think he would actually kill children at this point. The lightsaber fight between Anakin and Obi Wan was too long and over choreographed. I didn't like when Anakin becomes Darth Vader and yells noooooo!!! It was cheesy. But overall it's still a good story about how Anakin becomes Darth Vader. And it's still way better than any Disney Star Wars movie. This is how I rank all the movies 1(8/10),2(8/10),4(8/10),6(8/10),3(7/10),5(7/10),I don't count Disney Star Wars but I would rank them Rogue One, The Rise of Skywalker, Solo, The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi Expand

When Star Wars first hit the cinemas in 1977 the reason it got the amout of hype was because its story and directing stlye was revolutionary for the time and greatly shaped modern hollywood. But in a world where the "Star Wars Formula" is commonly used and further developed Ep 4-6 wouldnt be interesting anymore. The setting "Bad Guys have the power and Good Guys rebell to gain it back" was heavily used in the last 40 years, Star Wars would still be its origin, but that alone wouldnt make it fun to watch. What it lacked was a background, HOW did the bad guys come to power. And ROTS gets into that perfectly. The chancellor manipulating the corrupt republic (based on a war in which he led both ends) and especically the most promising force user in history in the way Ian McDiarmid plays it, is amazing to watch and fills a huge gap in the history of Star Wars, this movie in particular but also the other Prequels are the reason Star Wars is still relevant nowerdays.

While still not as good as the original trilogy, it matches The Force Awakens and it is far better than The Last Jedi. Watching Revenge of the Sith kept me hooked the entire time, with the final lightsaber duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan being the greatest ligthsaber fight in the franchise. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Revenge of the Sith is the greatest Star Wars prequel. The movie takes all of the biggest Star Wars prequel criticisms and completely eradicates them. Revenge of the Sith is not too long, the plot makes sense, the dialogue is far superior to the last two, and Jar Jar only has one line in the film. Revenge of the Sith also keeps the best part about the prequels, the fight choreography, and capitalizes on it.
The entire point of the prequels is to represent how Anakin plunged into the dark side. In the prequels, Anakin is presented as a human with human emotions, not a Jedi that’s subject to the Jedi code. Anakin turns because of loyalty to the man he respects and the desire to protect human life. Anakin must choose between two fathers, representative of two sides. Obi-Wan represents the light and Palpatine represents the darkness. Both sides are using Anakin to get something they desire, both not recognizing him as an equal. This concept is immoral no matter how moral the cause is. Both Fathers fail to do their job, and for that, it eventually leads to their death.

Revenge Of The Sith, where do I begin, the cast are way better than they were in Attack Of The Clones and Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) is way better in this one. The reasons on why he's better is due to him having better dialogue which works well and it's quite a small thing but his facial expressions when he's taking with other characters show him to be quite an angry and annoyed character, not really shown as the whiny brat he was in Episode 2. Also, the fight scenes here are very fun and engaging not like the ones in Attack Of Clones, we get to meet some new villains and witness some brilliant fight scenes with them. Honestly, my favourite fight scenes throughout this movie would have to be the one where it's General Grevious Vs Obi-Wan Kenobi and the final fight scene where it's Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) vs Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) those fight scenes are always amazing to watch. Finally, the Revenge Of The Sith has got an amazing plot with a brilliant ending which links up perfectly to A New Hope. Overall, I'd honestly say this is my favourite prequel and it might be one of my favourite Star Wars movies, it's honesty worth the watch. Expand

Still not perfect, but 'Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith' is such a more enjoyable entry in the prequel trilogy - which ends strongly.

I had a fun time with this. I do have a couple of (relatively minor) complaints, but first the positives. I'd say this is the best that this cast produced during this run of films. Hayden Christensen is excellent in his role, it's the most I've liked him in 'Star Wars' for sure. Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman give more than solid performances as well.

The special effects look nice throughout, while the score is pleasant. I also found the pacing to be practically ideal, which is a marked improvement on its predecessors. The humour and dialogue still isn't great, yet is also bettered. Crucially, the plot is very good.

With all that noted, I do have two things I didn't love. The first being the event that includes Samuel L. Jackson's character. I completely get the intention and reasoning of what occurs, but how it is shown did feel kinda forced and poorly written.

Another is the end, which overruns ever so slightly. I know it's setting up the original trilogy, but there are a few too many scenes; could've/should've ended on you know who's first breath.

However, all in all, I got a positive amount of entertainment and would class this as a step above the preceding two films. I'm glad about that, as it makes the prequel productions way more meaningful and memorable than they were looking to be based on the 1999 & 2002 releases.

Action-packed and the best of the prequel trilogy. The duels a bit lengthy and dialogue is somewhat appalling. My favourite film in the Star Wars franchise

A delicious taste that we needed to end the Prequel Trilogy, and huge comeback too.

I was very reluctant from watching Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith because of how bad the previous two movies were, but to my shock this one was actually pretty good! Now of course this isn't some absolutely masterpiece movieI was very reluctant from watching Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith because of how bad the previous two movies were, but to my shock this one was actually pretty good! Now of course this isn't some absolutely masterpiece movie that could be remembered for being classic, but at least it saved the entire prequel trilogy by simply not doing anything bad. I had been waiting to watch this movie ever since I began bingewatching Star Wars. I watched this two years back, so the rating is from that time. I haven't changed it after seeing the cult following.

The story is a huge improvement over the previous two movies, although it does stay in line with them. In the last two movies it seemed as though they completely forgot that Anakin is supposed to slowly turn bad, which is something this movie did pretty convincingly. Anakin became Palpatine's bodyguard, and then he heard the story of Darth Plagueis the Wise. This movie's story is so good that I often get confused when I remember the good parts of Episode II, as to whether they were from Episode II or this movie. When I wrote the review for Episode II, I thought Anakin killing his mother's killers was from this movie.

The character development is also another thing that is much better over here. Starting from Anakin of course. He doesn't like sand. It's rough and course and gets everywhere. The Kenobi-Skywalker duo who were the besties in the beginning of the movie became enemies in the end. Mace Windu gets his comeuppance for being so annoying. And of course, how can I forget that my favourite character, General Grievous is from this movie? He learnt the art of dual wielding from Count Dooku himself!

The next big thing was the CGI. It's amazing how come the first two movies had such a bad CGI but it improved so much over here. It's almost like they took some extra time to polish the visual effects. The cinematography is also a lot cleaner now. Unlike the last two movies, I didn't feel like falling asleep in the middle of the talking scenes.

With all that said, nothing is still perfect. The VFX being better than the last two movies is actually a very low bar. The acting is still very campy. In the beginning scene where Kenobi and Anakin are talking after coming back from fighting Grievous (the one from which the "This whole operation, it was your idea!" meme came), they are both speaking such that one person will finish talking, the camera will linger on them for some time, then the camera will transition to the other character and then they will speak. It looked like a school drama. The final fight was fun but the dialogues ruined it.

Star Wars: Episode III is one of, if not the best Star Wars movie. It is kinda sad that George Lucas does not have the cap when these movies are made. It would have been pretty cool to watch these movies in today's time and technology. This is way ahead of the dumpster fire that the sequel trilogy was. Although I have given it a less rating, I will increase it if I rewatch it in the future.
