This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. THE worst Star Wars film... and this is coming for a life long Star Wars fan. There is so much wrong with this film I don't know where to begin. Let's start with the title: Why is this movie called Attack of the Clones? Who are they attacking because they actually come to the rescue at the end of the movie. This title would have fitted the third film better.
The "friendship" between Obi-Wan and Anakin is not believable. Obi-Wan is sometimes a bossy father figure while Anakin comes across as a pouty spoiled brat.
The "love" between Padme and Anakin is also not believable. Yeah, they're both good looking but aside from that why are they attracted to each other? Girls, if a guy cries to you on your first date that he's slain a village full of people, dump him and move out of town. Guys, if a girl keeps telling you she's not interested but keeps wearing sexy clothes during alone time, she's a tease... move on.
Some of the epic battle scenes look video game cutscenes from a PS3 game. Something just looks off. Maybe it's because every clone trooper is CGI instead of an actor in a suit.
Aside from those major issues there's plenty of silly moments like when Jango Fett chooses to kill his bounty hunter partner instead of killing the 2 Jedi that had their backs to him. Oh, and if he is the best bounty hunter in the galaxy then why is he paying someone else to do his work?
Anakin jumps out of a speeder thousands of feet in the air and Obi-Wan says, "I hate it when he does that." Really? Anakin is jumping out of moving vehicles often or just doing stupid things often?
And the icing on the cake: Why would the scheming Sith master create 2 armies to fight each other when he could just use both to take over a galactic government that has no standing army? The entire basis of the trilogy is just plain idiotic.
There's tons more, but I wasted enough time talking about this train wreck of a film.

Incredible Thriller - had me sobbing at the end.

Begun, this bowel movement has.

Easily the worst Star Wars film of them all (yes, even more so than Phantom Menace). A testament to what happens when George Lucas has complete creative freedom and no one there to question him creatively.

Lucas made some bad choices when making this film but the worst was giving Yoda and lightsaber and having him fight in a duel. The CGI fighting looked really bad and it overall ruined the wise and mystical character of Yoda from the Empire Strikes Back and turned him into some bulls*** action hero.

The effects were not quite as good as they could have been -- Yoda was entirely computer-animated and it showed. For a character with a major (and thorougjly enjoyable, near the end) part in the movie, it might have behooved them to spend at least as much money making Yoda come alive as they did Jar Jar in the previous movie. Believe the critics who say there is no chemistry between Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen; they are absolutely right. While Natalie is a very good actress, "much to learn" has Hayden. Ewan McGregor is terrific in his role, and we finally get to see the Obi-Wan Kenobi that will become the man of legend. I enjoyed the film for the most, except for some of the minor details (Natalie never wears the same outfit twice in any two scenes in the whole movie -- even scenes that are supposedly mere hours apart at most). But, as a whole, the movie was good. With a few more revisions, it could be excellent. Expand

Instead of mildly fun"The Phantom Menace" may be a simply a bad movie, this one is unfortunately worse. Instead of loads of tax federation crap, we got loads of Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman having a horrifically forced love story. Instead of mildly fun light saber fights, we get mediocre light saber fights. Instead of bad writing, we get abizmole writing. You see the point I'm trying to make. After "The Phantom Menace" didn't deliver like most people hoped it would, you would at least expect Lucas to actually try with the next one. And to be fair he does try to be different. However, he goes in the opposite direction and writes one of the worst loves in history and a story about clone troopers that doesn't go into effect until the last act. Beyond just the screenplay, the visuals still look hoaky, some even worse than last time. The performances are honestly even worse than from the last movie. If anything, I felt that my time was wasted for the most part. Again, like "The Phantom Menace", there are moments of promise. But there's very little of it. Where as "The Phantom Menace" had its good moments a little too far and in between, "Attack of the Clones" barely has any moments like that throughout the entire movie. With a title like "Attack of the Clones", I was hoping for something fun and exciting even if it was brainless fun. Overall, it disappoints even more so than usual with terrible dialogue, terrible performances, a terrible story, and a terribly God-awful love story. I give it a D+! Expand

While nothing in Episode 1 has any real impact on the trilogy we got this time a meaningful story with huge game changers for the Star Wars galaxy. I like how the story unfolds and the plots start to work. I would say the lines are draw and the long looming conflicts begins to escalate. Like in any good middle movie it answers questions while you get new ones. Then there are the characters. I like the chemistry and interactions between Obi Wan (Ewan Mc Gregor), Anakin (Hayden Christensen) and Padme (Natalie Portman). C3PO and R2D2 are as good as always (There is the fan theory that these two are the main characters in Star Wars;-). The best performance has Ian Mc Diarmid as Palpatine. He is so enjoyable to watch. I purpose the idea of a TV series with him as main characters. A House of Cards like show with many plots, gains and shady businesses. But back to the movie. Christopher Lee is as good as always. He is also a legendary actor and delivers his role as gentleman villain (I think he has some pure motives). Yoda and Samuel Jackson are the fitting leaders of the Jedi Order. Overall I would say the Jedi while not truly evil have their part in the injustice and decline of the galaxy. They are paralysed by their dogmas and are unable to evolve. I would even say if the bad guys waited long enough the Jedi would destroy themselves or become irrelevant (There are a lot of good theories out there). The acting is good for me for the most part with the downside of the dialogues. They are often wooden and unfitting. This is a problem for the whole prequel trilogy. The battles are again top notch. This is one of a few parts where the prequels are better (Rewatch the old trilogy again if you don't believe me). The final battle is a highlight and I have yet to find someone who did complain about it. Of cause I must praise John Williams for the score. He is a legend. Only Hans Zimmer and Ennio Morricone can compete with him. Overall this felt like a return to Star Wars and was enjoyable. It made me want more and kept the interest for the final movie. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was so disappointed in this film. It may have improved over the phantom menace, but that doesn't mean it is good. The worst part of this film is the love story. The worst I have seen in a film since twilight. It had terrible dialog, awkward scenes, and george should have never have written this mess. However, across the stars is a great peice of music, which focused on the love story. There are parts I do like about the movie, like the battle of geniosious. Seening the jedi as a group fighting gave me a exciting feeling. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. From my point of view, "Attack of the clones" is the weakest installment of the "Skywalker Saga" and I find it very hard to find something positive in this movie.
In fact, there are only three things I can enjoy: Obi-wan, the pursuit through the asteroid field and Palpatine overlooking his new clone army. Unfortunately, that's about it! The rest is still watchable, but without a doubt far away from being a good movie. Anakin's storyline and the lightsaber duel in the end really insult me as a Star wars fan...

And it's incredibly disappointing to say that because the Clone Wars is a time period in Star Wars that I love. The animated TV show was great (and so are many of the comics depicting this time period) but this movie doesn't do it much justice at all. The characters are pretty atrocious in this movie. Anakin finally reached his full potential on the annoying scale, Count Dooku doesn't get nearly as much screen time as he deserved, and Padme is damn near as bad as Anakin at times. The best part of this movie (and the reason it's not rated even lower) is Obi-Wan's plot line, at least it's serviceable. That brings me to the plot, and–uh–it's not good, folks. I get it. It's a love story about Anakin and Padme, but it's a very poorly executed love story. Cheesy dialogue coupled with boring scenes...blech. And even when we get away from the love story, the actual "clone war" is not nearly as entertaining as it could be and the final duel between Count Dooku and Obi-Wan/Anakin/Yoda is very disappointing. I do have to give Attack of the Clones some props for having some pretty impressive CGI (for the time), although I wish not all of the clones were CG. At the end of the day, Attack of the Clones is the most fast-forward worthy film of the franchise. Do you need to watch it at least once all the way through? Yes, but after that feel free to just watch the few good parts there are. Expand

Attack of theOne of my favorite films as there is nothing like it packed full of wonder, intrigue, action, metaphors and multiple literary homages and references. I’m always finding something I had missed before on multiple viewings. Attack of the Clones serves as the backbone of the 6 Lucas films revealing Anakins first taste of the dark side, the near sightedness of the Jedi Order and the origin of the Clone Wars as mentioned in A New Hope. I find the Anakin and Padme interactions intriguing as he seeks after her in a 1920s type courtly approach finding comfort and intoxication in her presence. Padme who is remarkably stunning in this film seems to welcome the attention but turns away when she sees first hand how a tender moment alone can be a source of pain for Anakin as he is terrified of loss. He is almost prophesying his life as Darth Vader when he tells Padme, “ The thought of not being with you, I can’t breath.” The final climatic battle is a spectacular sequence that seems to favor our protagonist but Yoda expressed great dismay for the last line of the film as he states, “The shroud of the dark side has fallen, begun the Clone War has.” Expand

The movie is pretty much ruined for me because of 2 scenes. There was something there though, there was a framework for a good movie. Maybe you'll get over those scenes better than I can.

Something about Anakin skydiving to land on Zam's ship was strange. I'm all for the love story between Anakin and Padme but this movie spent too much time on it, and should have included for action scenes. Obi-Wan vs Jango Fett was alright, too short. The battle on Geonosis was alright too, best part was Yoda vs Count Dooku but even that was a little too short. Overall, this movie missed the mark and contains very few memorable scenes in the Star Wars franchise. Expand

The only character I think which is enjoyable throughout this movie is Obi Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) he's got some memorable quotes but not as memorable as this movie. The fight scenes aren't really that fun and engaging as they've previously been in the other Star Wars Movie's and the only fight scene which sort of felt fun was near the end with Yoda and Count Dooku (Christopher Lee) but apart from that there isn't that much I enjoyed about this movie and the only things I sort of enjoyed about this movie would have to be about Anakins mother and some of scenes with Dex in and he's hardly in it lol. Finally, the dialogue with Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) can be seen as quite cringey throughout this movie and it's not his fault, it's the direction which George Lucas wanted this movie to be in. Overall, it's not my favourite Star Wars movie, far from it.

Also, I forgot to mention, why did they reuse the duel of fates theme when Anakin is going to slay a bunch of Tusken Raiders, it doesn't really work that well.

"The Jedi are taking over"...Oh, wait not yet, Attack of the Clones is a better film than Episode I, focusing on the beginning of the war against the separatist and the Sith, who are extinct.

I would like to say something, from this movie I noticed that the Jedi are incredibly lazy. Yoda can Sense that the future, Jedi and judgement of everything are clouded by the Dark side yet he does nothing.

Anyway.

Now is this a great Starwars Film? Hell yes.

It expands on the existing characters, and plots not to mention the FORCE of the music in this film. John Williams nailed all of the Themes. When you get to the Arena, it's magnificent.

Now about the Women and Children, ok like I mentioned in the Review for Episode I, the memes make the Prequels so enjoyable.

Ok but really, this film is really good, the way George was able to capture his writing and script and then make it memorable is insane. I'll tell you I can remember lines from this movie as clearly as day. To me that's what makes things really good, being able to create scenes that the audience can recognise and remember easily. George was on to something, maybe he didn't realise it but he definitely knew what he was doing.

So 8/10, it's better, it's bigger, and I mean it's bigger.
Compared to today's standards of Star Wars films this is leagues ahead of anything we've recently seen. Force Awakens, forget about it.
The Last Jedi, I laugh at it.
The Rise of Palpatine *cough, Skywalker, No, just no.

Next one, Have you heard the Review of Episode III?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Half of this film is some of the best live-action Star Wars material, ever. The other half... is the exact opposite. This is a film that fails horribly in almost everything it set out to do, and unequivocally succeeds in almost everything else. The action and visual design are fantastic. The worldbuilding... immaculate. Obi-Wan... great dude. The mystery aspect, while slightly improvable, is very well done. Here's the problem: Anakin, the main character, is so profoundly poorly written in this film that it legitimately worsens his entire arc as a character. He's a bit of a weird jerk, for one thing, and also... there's almost no foreshadowing or character development. (Except for the bit on Tatooine, which is fantastic and one of the best scenes in the series.) It literally made Episode III have to work twice as hard to develop his character, since this movie was so hyperfocused on telling a love story that was just as poorly written. Lucas could have easily woven in quality character development in there, but nooo... The closest we get to this is when Anakin and Padme are just gallivanting around, and then they randomly decide to sit down and Anakin declares he wants to start a dictatorship. And the dialogue in these scenes is just atrocious. I was fine with the dialogue style, until this... Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman get a bad rap here, though. Their acting isn't Oscar-winning or anything, but it's really the writing and dialogue that make these scenes so terrible. Acting is solid throughout the rest of the film, as well. More emphasis could also have been put on Count Dooku's character, as he's a legitimately compelling villain. The good overall outweighs the bad for me, though, and I still think it's a decent movie.
Overall, 6.5/10

There's just enough there for me to not fall asleep...until all the scenes with Anakin and Padme start. I actually think that's why I give this movie as high a rating as I did Episode I--I always skipped those scenes whenever I rewatched this movie growing up, so I don't even really remember the content of those scenes. Pretty sad, since the original intention of these prequels was to show Darth Vader's fall from grace in becoming among the most evil--yet potentially most complex--characters in the Star Wars universe. Just sittingI was very reluctant to re-watch this movie because I literally have no good memories with this one, or any memories of it at all. That's the film's biggest problem, you can't recall anything in it, it's kind of just "there". Just sitting there, doing absolutely nothing. I feared it would be just as terrible and awful as any other Star Wars fan said it was, but to be honest, I didn't think it was that terrible to sit through.

Now, don't get me wrong. This film was bad, like... REALLY bad, but the writing was so tremendously awful that I found it really entertaining. It's not like "Phantom Menace" where it's sometimes bad and sometimes good. Instead it's sometimes really bad, but sometimes really funny. It seems George Lucas and this second writer (Jonathan Hales) had no idea what the hell they're doing, and it shows... it seriously shows...

There's barely anything I actually like in this movie. Ewan McGregor still does a good job as Obi-Wan and John Williams' score is alright, but it certainly is my least favorite Star Wars soundtrack.

One scene I like in concept and almost in execution was whenever Anakin finds his dying mother. She ends up saying "I love you" and dies in his arms, pretty cliché but it was pretty sad as well. Sadly, it's followed up by two really terrible scenes (one of them very funny).

The first scene is immediately after Anakin's mom dies, he slaughters all the Tuskin Raiders. Why? It's pretty clear Lucas is trying to show the audience that Anakin is moving towards the dark side with all these terrible things happening to him, but why does he have to kill the sand people? It would of been so much better if he had just snuck out of the camp with his mother's body and went back to Padme and his family members without killing anyone. Have him swallow the sadness like Luke did in the '77 Star Wars.

The second scene is when Anakin returns to Padme and has an outburst of how he killed all the sand people and how much he hates them, complete with him tearing up about it. It's so damn funny, but I feel really bad for Hayden Christensen (actor who plays Anakin). I get the impression that he's really trying to give a good performance, but Lucas' script is so terrible that it becomes so hilariously bad.

The digital effects are both pretty good and very bad, mostly suffering by the fact that instead of 20% practical effects it's now around 5%-10% practical, just about everything in this movie is a digital effect. A lot of it looks really bad, especially the greenscreen bits.

"Attack of the Clones" is so much worse than "Phantom Menace", it wasn't as horrendous to sit through like I thought it would be, but I still think it is definitely the worst Star Wars movie we ever got. I am never going back to watch this movie unless I'm in the mood for watching a movie that's "So bad it's funny".

I'm gonna try to make it my goal to see every Star Wars movie in a movie theater, but when I end up only having "Attack of the Clones" as the final movie to see, I hope it's with my friends so that we could have a "MST3K/RiffTrax" sort of commentary. That's how hilariously bad this movie is, I'll never be able to take it seriously.

I didn't even touch on how they gave Yoda a stupid baby sized lightsaber and how that goes against everything he stood for in the Original Trilogy...

Too much stuff going on and little to no character development. The goofy characters returned, but the humor this time around was a little more successful, unlike the previous film, which sometimes felt too corny to generate laughs. In spite of overabundance of plotting, I was actually invested in what was going on, especially when action and special effects came into play. Obviously the Star Wars franchise always had a knack on this department, and clearly shows it here.

Maybe I'm nitpicking here, but I found myself bummed how the scene transition never changed. Too often this movie switched from one subplot to the other subplot, with the same transition, and sometimes those scenes were so short you could blink and miss them. Perhaps not a problem factor for some, but for me it was just irritating.

The force is with this movie, and while not in its fullest, Episode II delivered the thrills 5 times better than the predecessor did.

Final Score: 6.5/10

the Jedi or the universe.

Five movies in, and I think I've finally come to my definitive least favorite of the series. It's not bad, per say, just underwhelming, although it does have an better plot than The Phantom Menace. In Attack of the Clones, the GalacticFive movies in, and I think I've finally come to my definitive least favorite of the series. It's not bad, per say, just underwhelming, although it does have an better plot than The Phantom Menace. In Attack of the Clones, the Galactic Republic is on the brink of civil war when several planetary system threaten to secede under the leadership of rogue Jedi Count Dooku. An assassination attempt is made on Senator Padme Amidala, so Anakin Skywalker is tasked with protecting her, while his mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi goes to investigate. Luckily, Episode II did deliver on my hope from Episode I in that the plot moves considerably forward, and some of the more notable characters are given more screen time (or less in Jar Jar's case, thank god). Padme and Anakin have a romantic subplot that I didn't mind, and Obi-Wan is always fun to watch, but I thought Anakin's character was much more interesting in this movie. There was quite a bit of foreshadowing of Anakin's transformation into Darth Vader that put the prequels into a better context and made Anakin more intriguing. It'd be nice if Hayden Christensen wasn't so awful in his role. Attack of the Clones does succumb to middle-chapter problems at times. There wasn't anything as memorable as the Darth Maul battle in The Phantom Menace or the speeder bike chase in Return of the Jedi. The fight between Yoda and Count Dooku is pretty cool at first, but watching a little green alien jump around like Sonic got old after a while. Attack of the Clones is still just as entertaining and fun as the other Star Wars movies, even if it's one of the weaker entries. Expand

Worst in the series, instead of it being a memorable Star Wars film it decides to be a forgettable love story. I'm not one to bash on the prequels (I really liked Ep 3) but this is one of the worst Star Wars movies and one of the worst movies of all time (in my opinion). The battle between all the Jedi is kinda cool I guess, but the main story is just so forced down your throughout, and the dialogue is even worse. There isn't anything good about this movie. Expand

Despite the use of Samuel L Jackson, this is the 2nd worst Star Wars film made, to date. There's a galactic war going on, and instead of showing that, we get frolicking?

The Phantom Menace was abysmal enough, but Attack of the Clones is somehow even worse; this film improves upon its predecessor in just one way: There's much less of Jar-Jar Binks, the worst Star Wars character ever devised. But in absolutely every other way, Attack of the Clones makes The Phantom Menace look somewhat okay in comparison. The film is filled with absolutely horrible acting (most notably the atrocity of a performance from Hayden Christiansen), a disastrously over-complicated story, truly embarrassing dialogue, soulless characters, nauseating attempts at romance, more severely dated and fake CGI, mindless plot threads and scenes that go nowhere, and some of the most ridiculous and stupid-looking action sequences in the series. Also, of course, the growing dispute between the Republic against the Confederacy.
Although this is a nice movie, it’s not more than that. It is just another sci-fi film that, despite all the imagination behind it, when it is brought to the big screen it doesn’t feel as well as it should. The acting seems a little forced and not as good as I would like, the special effects are just fine for the time it was released, and the story is pretty good and imaginative, but unfortunately it wasn’t told as well as I would have preferred. The only thing that stood out a little, was the soundtrack that, as in any Star Wars film, is quite awesome. I recommend this film to any fan of the series, and also to everyone who likes sci-fi and/or action and adventure movies. But do not expect the film of the year because it is far from it.

I thought Phantom Menace was a decent starting film that is underrated. This one is overrated for even simply having a higher score than Menace on this site. The story wasn't there, the acting was worse and the characters don't make me care really. Besides Obi Won, who was a great character with what was given to him. The scene with Yoda hoping around was terrible and the action isn't good at all. Jango Fett was a alright character that was thrown aside after one film. Very much like Darth Maul. The effects were actually even worse in this one than the other films by far. The story in this one also makes very little to no sense and just sort of makes you role your eyes. At least it gets better from here. Expand
