Namely the romance between Padme and Anakin. Anakin spends most of the movie sneering and acting like a bottled up psychopath... And yet we're supposed to swallow that someone as smart as a senator falls head over heels in love with him? Unconvincing to say the least. Aside from that, however, Attack of the Clones impresses with some great action scenes, a terrific final reel and an appearance from Christopher Lee. Which pretty much balances things out in the long run. Expand

But its not a New Hope, an Empire Strikes Back, or even a Return of the Jedi...sadly. Attack of the Clones succeeds in many areas but fails in many more. As said with the Phantom Menace review, the key things that made the original trilogy so magical were its story and characters, universe, and the good acting. Attack of the Clones ties together many, many loose ends lying around with the series, and brings in adult Anakin Skywalker played by Hayden Christensen, who is ultimately dull and boring as an actor and feels sadly even worse than his younger version seen in the Phantom Menace.
Ewan McGregor is however, much better in AotC than Phantom Menace, seeing an overall stronger performance. Natalie Portman has improved slightly too, but still gives a bit of a "I'm only here to fill in the role" look off. The performances are overall average, and nothing compared to the original trilogy.
The characters are interesting and while Jar-Jar Binks is briefly seen we don't have to deal with his abomination of a character on screen for long. We see Boba Fett's father, the birth of the stormtroopers, and Anakin Skywalker's looming fate, and its all very great. The new CGI produced Yoda and other aliens makes the experience all the more realistic and is cool.
But when it adds up for what it is, AotC is still a very, very, very flawed piece of work, that while action packed and fun, lacks the flair or audacity of the original three, and what made them so great.

My least favorite of the Star Wars movies. Yes, the special effects are once again undeniably impressive, but the whole romance story is boring and the dialogue is sometimes ridiculous.

To me, people who have a major hatred towards this film look at the originals with nostalgia glasses on. While Episodes V and VI are great, A New Hope is horrifically bad at times. Featuring awful acting and even worse special effects and writing, the original Star Wars film seems to be the basis for the prequel trilogy, as Attack of the Clones has some awful, awful writing (particularly the cringeworthy romance scenes) and some bad sequences of CGI. However, I will say that the special effects on the whole are vast improved. The acting, while not good, is nowhere near as bad as it was in the original. The original felt like amateur hour. In this one, you can tell these people are professionals, while is good. The action sequences in Attack of the Clones are all very good and the fight choreography is vast improved when compared to its predecessors. Finally, there is some killer cinematography in this one that really underscores how much time was put into making this one good. Overall, Attack of the Clones is not as good as the best of the Star Wars franchise, but is far from being the worst entry in the series. Expand

The battle sequences are nothing short of brilliant. What I have a problem with, is the love story between Anakin and Padme. For how much it tried, it just couldn't convince me.

The story is outstanding, the lore is incredible, and the dialogue is complete and utter garbage. Doesn't mean that it isn't good, though. This is where it really shows how the Republic is disintegrating and how Anakin is unstable.

Too much stuff going on and little to no character development. The goofy characters returned, but the humor this time around was a little more successful, unlike the previous film, which sometimes felt too corny to generate laughs. In spite of overabundance of plotting, I was actually invested in what was going on, especially when action and special effects came into play. Obviously the Star Wars franchise always had a knack on this department, and clearly shows it here.

Maybe I'm nitpicking here, but I found myself bummed how the scene transition never changed. Too often this movie switched from one subplot to the other subplot, with the same transition, and sometimes those scenes were so short you could blink and miss them. Perhaps not a problem factor for some, but for me it was just irritating.

The force is with this movie, and while not in its fullest, Episode II delivered the thrills 5 times better than the predecessor did.

Final Score: 6.5/10

Certainly a step above Episode I, but it's still a fine film plagued by iffy character development and poor acting. A good step in setting up the original films, but it's still just a bit above average on its own.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can usually sense how much I like a movie for how long I will stay up at night to watch it. This episode took me nearly three days. While I certainly enjoyed Attack of the Clones more than The Phantom Menace, I hesitate to say that it truly was a superior movie. George Lucas tries to bring a sense of imagination and distance to each film, but in this case the aspects of Star Wars that originally made me love it were glaringly absent.

The plotline of Anakin and Padme could not have been more predictable, and with each passing minute I grew to dislike Anakin more and more. Knowing he will turn to the dark side, his character development is apparent, but not exciting, not memorable. The Attack of the Clones is not particularly clever and it reminded me strongly of being made with sadness rather than the wonder I sensed in the original trilogy.

I truly wish each character in Episode II would be as well-spoken as Yoda. I felt that the performances by Obi-Wan, but Anakin and Padme in particular, were quite lifeless. I wanted so much for them to light up the screen with their friendship, as we saw with Luke and Han and Leia, but in no way was this the same. All I sensed was disdain and resentment – a demure cousin to what we have known.

If only Lucas had realized that for this trilogy to be magnificent, it must be able to stand on its own and not serve solely as a prequel to the (obviously superior) original movies. Anakin's journey may be similar to his son's, but Luke Skywalker is infinitely more charismatic and entertaining to watch. I love Star Wars, and I always will, but this could have been so much more.

I will admit the dialogue is weak and gets nowhere at times, the plot isn't as well thought out and felt convoluted at best, Haydn Christensen does give a truly abysmal performance as Anakin and although the presence of Jar Jar Binks was toned down here his presence anywhere seemed jarring. Still despite the major flaws, it is a marvel to look at with stunning sets and impeccable CGI. The battle sequences are well choreographed, the pace is somewhat brisker than in Phantom Menace and the performances with the exception of Christensen are very good.

Natalie Portman is quite captivating as Queen Padma, and displays a lot of emotional depth. Frank Oz is excellent as always as Yoda, and Ewen MacGregor is more at home here than he was in Phantom Menace. There is no doubt though that the acting honours go to Christopher Lee as the villainous Count Dooku. Then again, Lee is an exceptional actor who can act anything you throw at him. Plus John Williams' music was outstanding. Overall, a decent movie while the weakest of the Star Wars franchise. 6/10 Bethany Cox

I have heard some call the second film of the Star Wars prequels their favorite of the whole bunch, and while I fully understand from where these viewers formulate their preferences, I also see a certain horrible opinionated oversight therein. That is to say amidst entire worlds of explosion of emotional drama, Attack of The Clones slaughters any true notion of moral obligation and its inherent power. By this, I mean that the united force that is the Jedi Council is at most a colorful group of cerebral inquisitors, while the growing Dark Side is at least a seriously formidable twister of control through deception. Additionally, the confusedness and passionate rage of central character Anakin paints him too soon as the future agent of darkness, sapping out a potential element of surprise that the film failed to utilize. In the end, one should watch Attack of The Clones as a juvenile war cartoon, if one should even watch it at all. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Star Wars: Episode II- Attack of the Clones is a huge improvement over it's predecessor, doing a better job by executing the story well. However, I just hate Anakin in this movie. He is poorly written, acted and he just lacks the charisma of Luke. He's so damn boring. And the relationship between Anakin and the Queen is just so damn corny and lacks elegance. However, I liked the villain here (Dooku), because he was interesting in this movie. As for the bounty hunter, he was nothing special. His personality is almost non-existent in this movie really, but he looked cool with the Bounty Hunter armor. But, the last 30 minutes were badass, and just because of those final minutes, this movie gets a solid 6. I mean, watching Jedi Masters fight together was epic indeed. So, this movie is nothing special, barely decent, but it's still a massive improvement Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok, I agree with the critics about like the love story between Padme and Anakin, the plot in this parth is awaful and i must stand out the Hayden Christensen´s Script is bad, here George Lucas commited an error, theremore it is almost 1 hour the movie, the only dialog that it is effective, it is just Padme and Anakin enter in the Geonosis Arena.

But this parth bad, not cloud all the good aspects that the movie has.

-At first very good, kind of crime film with pieces of Blade Runner.
-The world: Better than the episode I (Kamino,Geonosis, Coruscant, Tatooine, Nabboo...)
-Characters: Dooku,Yoda,Obi Wan, Mice Windu, Jango Fett...
-Politics and War: Geonosis battle follows entertain me like the first time.

Conclusion:
It is a little worse than the episode I, but Episode II is a good movie too.

For the longest time, Attack of the Clones was considered my personal low point in the series, but after re-watching it during a palette cleansing session following the latest entry, I found that it held up a lot better than I thought.

The biggest problem with this entry were some of the casting choices, poor acting, and excessive reliance on CGI for the more nonsensical action sequences like the robot foundry. A lot of people complain that there were too many CGI sequences in general, but the fact of the matter is that a lot of the sequences people think are CGI were actually done with real sets and real props. The blending at that point had just gotten to the point that the two were indistinguishable.

Attack of the Clones fixed some of the problems from the previous entry, but added some new ones of its own. Regardless, I appreciate that George Lucas had an overarching story line for the trilogy and stuck to it. The story is consistent, and coherent, and even challenges your understanding of character motivations, such as with Dooku.

The visuals are still on par with what modern audiences expect. Locations are once again fantastic, and we are introduced to more new settings. It progresses the trilogy, but doesn't really blow your mind with any revelations.

Well worth watching, particularly if you have a soft spot for angsty CW quality romance.

It's adventures particularly with Obi-Wan enkindle a strong sense of intrigue and even the emotion with Anakin and Padme carries throughout, but perhaps dwells too much on the romance and not on the conflict of his inner desires. It's corse and rough and irritating.

Attack of the Clones is possibly the worst Star Wars movie out there (although I secretly love it). Like Episode 1 and 3, it suffers from poor dialogue, poor acting performance, some unnecessary over-naive scenes, and a humiliation to the continuity of Episode 4, 5, 6. However, it doesn't have the narrative strength of Episode 3, and compared to Episode 1, much of the scenes are wasted on the awkward romantic scenes. Another problem is one of the main characters, Anakin. As a protagonist, it is very hard to like this character. He's whiny, complains a lot, has a weird way of approaching a woman that he has been obsessed with since childhood, and his arrogance, though makes a great instrument for his journey to the dark side, is very annoying. My favorite part of this movie is the memes.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. George makes many attempts to stretch the film out. The film isn’t that bad apart from this point. Examples of this are shown in the Bounty Hunter chase. It’s dumb that a bounty hunter hired another bounty hunter to send a droid to send centipedes to kill Padme. I’d be lying If I said it wasn’t fun to watch but when you think about the chase deep down you begin to resent it for wasting time. The most obnoxious example of George Lucas stretching the movie is Padme and Anakin. The fireside subduction scene on Naboo emphasizes Anakin’s anger and disagreement with the Jedi code, highlighting the main reasons for his descent into the dark side while simultaneously explaining what is wrong about his love for Padme. The scene is great until you combine it with the other Naboo romance scenes between him and Padme. After the application of the other Naboo romance scenes, the fireside subduction scene is perfect. If the movie were to slightly hint about their feelings in normal scenes, cut out the Naboo romance scenes, and only keep the fireside subduction scene and everything after it, the romance between Anakin and Padme wouldn’t have contributed to the decline of the film’s quality.
Despite being longer than it should’ve, the film is miles better than the Phantom Menace. The film is actually enjoyable to watch and has an understandable plot. The film becomes even better starting with the fireside subduction scene with awesome fights, emotional performances, and even more exciting moments.
One of the greatest moments in the prequels in their entirety is when Anakin exacts revenge on the Tusken raiders. This scene shows Anakin giving in to his rage and murdering his mother’s murderers as his mother dies in his arms. This scene is the turn, the point when Anakin experiences a negative character change. It’s a shame because this scene shows that the Darth Vader we know is evil because he cares. He’s evil because he’s human. The scene gives the most about the history of Darth Vader we need to know and it fleshes Darth Vader out as a character by letting us empathize with the galactic tyrant that is himself. The scene is even better when accompanied by the change in the film’s score and cut to Yoda’s vision of the Tuskan raider’s screams. The scene is also better when accompanied by the fact that the scene after it has the most superior dialogue of episodes 1 and 2. Shmi Skywalker’s death is one of the greatest things to come from the prequels.
The attack of the clones could be better. But It could’ve been worse, way worse. It's great that the film learns from most of the mistakes of the last.

Overall it was fun to watch. More dynamic than the first episode. A lot of nonsense and conventions can be attributed to the setting and age rating of the film. Overall, the film is not bad (except for the sword fight at the end).

The action is cool and it makes it at least watchable, the acting is hit and miss as well when they are trying to act their way around Lucas's ultra crappy dialogue. To this day, Jango Fett is the only character with any appeal to me but unfortunately he was almost entirely wasted in this god-forsaken CGI porn fest. The only reason Jango is there is to probably sell toys and to give Boba a backstory, which is cool but at least give Jango a solid foundation to stand on himself. I don't understand how people say the Phantom Menace was worse than this one because I really don't see it and still don't to this day. The plot is full of holes and inconsistencies, stuff comes out of nowhere and you feel like someone should took Lucas aside and told him "No, this sucks. Stop it." Theres not alot of structure to anything in this movie but the forced and sometimes creepy and awkward dialogue ultimately was what killed this movie, again this movie would have been better if someone took Lucas aside and said, "Stop it, this sucks. This is bad." The only reason I give this movie a 4 instead of a 0 is because its Star Wars and its something I have loved dearly since I was a child. Again, there are thing to like here(Jango Fett) but ultimately its buried by a dumpster full of CGI upped crap. Expand

Also, of course, the growing dispute between the Republic against the Confederacy.
Although this is a nice movie, it’s not more than that. It is just another sci-fi film that, despite all the imagination behind it, when it is brought to the big screen it doesn’t feel as well as it should. The acting seems a little forced and not as good as I would like, the special effects are just fine for the time it was released, and the story is pretty good and imaginative, but unfortunately it wasn’t told as well as I would have preferred. The only thing that stood out a little, was the soundtrack that, as in any Star Wars film, is quite awesome. I recommend this film to any fan of the series, and also to everyone who likes sci-fi and/or action and adventure movies. But do not expect the film of the year because it is far from it.

Like 'Phantom', this entry in the beloved 'Star Wars' saga is too much like a video game, and has a terrible script. Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman were wooden, and Ewan McGregor wasn't much better.

The unnatural romance between Anakin and Padme is probably the film's biggest weakness. It portrays Anakin as a creepy stalker, and the script makes it worse. "I don't like sand."

Finally, it's too goddamn long! The war scene at the end becomes so boring, it's easy to lose track of who the hell is who and where the hell they are.

So, while defiantly an improvement on 'Phantom,' story-wise (but only marginally), Attack of the Clones doesn't do this beloved saga much justice.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: It's just so dragged out thanks to politics that'd baffle any non Star Wars fans, poor writing and one 45 minute explosion of CGI action at the end. Plus why Lucas feels the need for the injection of such awful humor is ridiculous.
VERDICT: Not as dull as it's predecessor, 'Attack of the clones' is fairly good until the third act where it's just senseless action.

The worst part of this film is the love story. The worst I have seen in a film since twilight. It had terrible dialog, awkward scenes, and george should have never have written this mess. However, across the stars is a great peice of music, which focused on the love story. There are parts I do like about the movie, like the battle of geniosious. Seening the jedi as a group fighting gave me a exciting feeling. The lightsaber fight between anakin, obi wan, and dooku was pretty good, but the fight between yoda and dooku could have been longer and better. Expand

Cringe worthy dialogue is the biggest problem with this movie. A little too much is focused on anikan and padmeas relationship. It distracts from a well put together story with historical and religious undertones brilliantly weaved into the story. The action is alot of fun and the light saber fight's are well choreographed. So in short a brilliant well told story and great acting from the supporting cast is overshadowed by stilted dialogue and a cringworthy romance but this movie luckily is not unwatchable unlike the phantom menace Expand

And it's incredibly disappointing to say that because the Clone Wars is a time period in Star Wars that I love. The animated TV show was great (and so are many of the comics depicting this time period) but this movie doesn't do it much justice at all. The characters are pretty atrocious in this movie. Anakin finally reached his full potential on the annoying scale, Count Dooku doesn't get nearly as much screen time as he deserved, and Padme is damn near as bad as Anakin at times. The best part of this movie (and the reason it's not rated even lower) is Obi-Wan's plot line, at least it's serviceable. That brings me to the plot, and–uh–it's not good, folks. I get it. It's a love story about Anakin and Padme, but it's a very poorly executed love story. Cheesy dialogue coupled with boring scenes...blech. And even when we get away from the love story, the actual "clone war" is not nearly as entertaining as it could be and the final duel between Count Dooku and Obi-Wan/Anakin/Yoda is very disappointing. I do have to give Attack of the Clones some props for having some pretty impressive CGI (for the time), although I wish not all of the clones were CG. At the end of the day, Attack of the Clones is the most fast-forward worthy film of the franchise. Do you need to watch it at least once all the way through? But the thing about Star Wars is that there is no way you can possibly hate the franchise no matter what it does. Even if there's one bad movie there's still a new hope (ba dm tss!), that probably the next movie does fix some stuff. And I can tell you with a guarantee that Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones is definitely not that kind of a movie. And no, I'm not scared of some kid marking my review unhelpful who probably lives in the basement of his parents' house.

One problem that constantly plagues the Star Wars prequel trilogy is that most of the good stories happen while the camera is not on the characters. There is a scene where Kenobi and Anakin are in an elevator while going to save Padmé from an assassin and talking about their previous adventures. And trust me, all those adventures sound WAY more fun than what we are being made to watch. Most of the characters shown throughout the movie are there just for the sake of being there, without any amount of character development.

That's not to say I absolutely dislike this movie. I really like the whole Jango Fett arc. It was one of the most memorable parts of the movie. There was also the colosseum fight which wasn't good but at least it was memorable. Also the part where C3PO accidentally falls on the assembly line and gets his head replaced by another robot. Other than that most scenes are easily forgettable, not as in I have forgotten they ever happened, but rather I have forgotten whether they happened in Episode II or III. I had to look up the scene I wrote in the above paragraph to make sure it happened in this movie.

The CGI, once again is terrible. I don't know what's the problem with the cinematography of this movie. It makes it look so boring. And of course, here's the movie where Anakin and Padmé start getting, well. I don't know what's with Star Wars movies and accidental incest. I get it's supposed to be a space opera, but this goes a little too far. Also the acting is super campy. One person will finish the dialogue, then the next person will speak. And I think it's a good thing because of how high the background music is. If two people start speaking together it will become impossible to hear altogether.

I had said that I'd try giving another watch to Star Wars: Episode I, which is hard because of how cringy Jar-Jar Binks. But here it's hard because only the Jango Fett scene was fun. This is, in my opinion, the worst Star Wars movie made by George Lucas. Trust me when I say I get no joy from saying all of this. I still had the courage to watch the franchise further, and I'm really glad I did since Revenge of the Sith really redeemed the trilogy for me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Better than the phantom menace, still the over reliance in green screen and CGI make it very difficult to buy into the world. One of the biggest things in this episode is supposed to be the romance between Anakin and Padme, unfortunately that's the worst part of the movie, it's an unbelievable romance with two bad actors and it just feels awkward. I'm gonna say it, I like the battle at the end, even if it looks like a videogame. Expand

Not bad, simply unimportant. I didn't really care for most of the plots besides Anakin's journey, which is quite messy btw. I did enjoy Jango Fett vs Obi Wan and the final battle.

Attack of the Clones fumbles the ball when it comes to delivering it's main character relationships and plot points, but still works as an enjoyable sci-fi romp.

This film adds a lot of importance context to the rest of the Star Wars franchise and the second half of the movie as exhilarating action scenes but besides that the movie is ok at best. The acting is questionable and some of writing is hard to watch. Overall it's an ok movie and nothing more but nothing less. Expand

Attack of the Clones has some memorable soundtrack.
That being said the dialogue is meme quality. If it were not for prequel memes and the soundtrack this would be lower. The story is ok to be honest.

Not terrible, but one of the worst star wars movies for dialogue and CGI effects

The Phantom Menace wasn't an awful film, and neither is Attack of the Clones, but by-golly it comes close. HaydenThe Phantom Menace wasn't an awful film, and neither is Attack of the Clones, but by-golly it comes close. The acting is even more wooden than in Episode I, the story even less engaging, and guess what? Lucas still can't do dialogue. Hayden Christiansen sets a whole new standard for drab lead performances. He takes the mopey teenager thing to the extreme (despite the fact he's in his twenties) and the so-called "love" scenes between Anakin and Padme are laughable. Soppy doesn't come close, these scenes are almost unwatchable (especially Anakin comparing his sweetheart to sand). Ewan MacGregor admirably soldiers on through the poor excuse for a script, and does so sporting a fine space-mullet. There is undeniably a lot wrong with Episode II, but it does have a few good points. Temuera Morrison is the very definition of cool, and all scenes featuring Jango Fett are entertaining. The Geonosis area fight featuring an army of Jedi is also a true spectacle. Finally, we get to see Yoda draw a lightsabre for the first time. Fans were divided over whether this is a good or bad thing. I believe the former - Yoda bouncing around like an angry jumping bean with a sword is awesome. Attack of the Clones moves the Star Wars saga dangerously close to parody through the poor quality of the script, acting and story, but somehow, Lucas still managed to make it enjoyable...but only just. There's just enough there for me to not fall asleep...until all the scenes with Anakin and Padme start. I actually think that's why I give this movie as high a rating as I did Episode I--I always skipped those scenes whenever I rewatched this movie growing up, so I don't even really remember the content of those scenes. Pretty sad, since the original intention of these prequels was to show Darth Vader's fall from grace in becoming among the most evil--yet potentially most complex--characters in the Star Wars universe. Yeah, don't really have anything else to say. Expand

The script, acting and romantic theme are definitely pretty weak, but like The Phantom Menace, the entertaining moments and epic battle scenes topple the bad parts

The acting by our romancing characters makes me want to hurl it's up to Ewan McGreggor, Samuel L. Jackson and Count Dracula himself Christopher Lee to salvage the thing but alas the were unable to. The complete miscast of Christensen tanked the movie but as a whole, It wasn't terrible. It had a few enjoyable moments but much like Phantom Menace, It left us wishing for a better end product.

A sizable improvement over the monkey-at-a-typewriter bull crap that was Episode 1 but this is still in a galaxy far, far away from the original trilogy. Expand
