This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is an action/comedy film, a parody film (more on that later) with themes covered including arms dealing, revenge and ambush. There's plenty of action in this film, as well as slapstick comedy which started almost right away. It wasn't the funniest film I've seen in any time as such, I found it mildly amusing but I certainly enjoyed the fast paced chases and decent visual effects present. The film features a number of somewhat inept, bumbling characters - not just obviously the main character, Susan but also with Miranda Hart, who plays a fellow CIA employee called Nancy. I should probably point out that not only is Susan very much put across as an underdog but her dialogue is often rather immature (the same applies to some other CIA agents/employees), with quips such as 'smell you later' uttered. This makes it probably more appealing, as a film, to a younger audience. Its fair to say that I felt it was a parody of other James Bond style films, films about slick spies working for the government and the like.

Cast wise, Melissa McCarthy plays the main character, Susan. She seems quite awkward at first, relatively unremarkable, looking quite frumpy and not especially sexy. She does well enough at portraying a stumbling underdog type character. While she works in the background at the CIA office (of sorts), it reminded me of the US drama show 24, where a female character was one of the main leads and seemed to spend her time, most of the time in any case, behind the scenes communicating with people outside, in front of the action, as it were. Jude Law plays fellow agent Bradley Fine - seeming much more the stereotypical slick and smooth English spy type. Other cast members include Jason Statham as Rock Ford (him playing yet another English gangster type with his relatively thich cockney accent etc.), Jessica Chaffin as Sharon, Sam Richardson as John and Allison Janney as Elaine Crocker, plus, as mentioned, Miranda Hart as Nancy.

Content wise, the film features very strong language, some sexual references and content and moderate violence, mainly in terms of gunfire and hand to hand combat, although there is the ocassional instance where frightening bloody bodily injury is depicted on screen. Due to this, the film has been given a 15 rating in the UK.

I suppose it could be argued that there's a sexist element to the film, with Susan stumbling around, being scatter brained and struggling to figure out what to do, reverting sometimes to pretty basic girly talk, when chatting with her friend Nancy. The depiction of pretty dizzy, sometimes clumsy women is not great and I imagine won't be appreciated by some. Having said this, to be honest the film wasn't as rude or lewd as I feared it may be, compared with the films by or featuring Judd Apatow or Seth Rogen and the like. I suppose if I had to compare it, I'd say think along the lines of an American female version of Johnny English with more swearing and sex references.

I admit that I wasn't especially looking forward to watching this, not thinking a great deal of Melissa McCarthy from what I know of her in other films and shows but I found it surprisingly watchable and I'd say I enjoyed it more than I thought I might. If nothing else, its got some good cinematography, with scenes including slick camera shots and a reasonable use of incidental music to increase tension at key moments. Its an easy watch. It does have one or two plot elements that seemed pretty unlikely but then again, I don't expect such a film to be entirely feasible, I suppose. I thought the action scenes being quite slick is what really worked in its favour.

I think this is one time when I'd go for undecided, as it depends on what kind of comedy you like and so on. I imagine some people wouldn't enjoy this film and others might think it quite entertaining - I thought it was pretty good for what it is but I wouldn't say its an amazing film by any means. Would I spend more than maybe a couple of quid to see it? no but there are worse films out there, so I'll leave it up to you to decide if its worth a watch.

And they will also be disappointed, because the film has nothing else. Yes, this is a comedy, and it is very difficult to come up with something new and unique in this genre. But the delusivity of the plot and situations causes a desire to interrupt viewing only intensifies. The film is served as a comedy action movie, but I saw comedies here only in a couple of scenes, and the action movie here is toy. The only thing that succeeded in the film is the main character. Melissa McCarthy played her role perfectly. Expand

In this movie, if you are an ugly woman, you make awesome stuff. If you are a beautiful woman, you do crap stuff. If you are a man, you can't make great stuff, you will fail or be saved by an ugly woman. All along the movie, men make sexual harassement on the woman "hero". For the rest, it's just bad written, it's boring. Only the first scene is nice, when you see the spy and his agent (a "normal" person) working together to make the mission successful. They should have work on that. I was out of the movie when the "normal" person started to act like a superhero. It was 3 painfull hours. I almost regret to have watching this crap. I didn't enjoy the movie. It's a bad spy movie. Don't waste your time here. Those great actor skills are wasted in this movie. Expand

Armed For No Reason.

Spy

Feig's take on the James Bond-s of the genre is impeccably impressive with faulty gadgets, dull mobile, questionable action sequences and slow chase scenes. Who'd have thought that compilation of these disasters is what's going to elevate the film into a hilarious zone. His film shines only when he fumbles- deliberately though- and his commitment on mapping out that entire structure for the sake of a laugh is surprisingly admirable. The plot is his weak point though, whenever the storyline advances further there is a sense of disappointment in the air, as you want to stay on that lane only and enjoy it thoroughly as much as possible.

And this makes the last act a bit low on humor, for the time was running and Feig had to bring out the news table where the flips and the turns and petty twists are barely the highlight of it. The physical sequences that it thrives upon is carried out brilliantly by McCarthy. She is just delightful to watch, body shaming herself and demoralizing others with her uncouth language, she makes you fall out of your chair as you burst out with a roaring laughter.

Supporting him thoroughly on that very note is Statham as a boasting guy that praises himself with various references that just keeps getting funnier and funnier, personally his amiability to keep himself superior than others steals away the show for me. Law, Byrne and Hart gets few lines to draw in the laughs but another surprising winner is Serafinowicz as a constant flirt in the screen that charms his way out, no matter what McCarthy says, his petty notions might get by unnoticed but his absence plays a much vital role. Spy is the least a spy ever can be or pretend to be, but there is no secret that the laughter comes in handy in here.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. OK, so this looks like an interes...oh my God! its another bloody Bond parody!! seriously!!! Yes the modern age feminist hipster, Paul Feig, takes a swing at the Bond genre, and oh what an original concept that is, gee I wonder what we'll see here...ugh!

So naturally its an adult comedy with lashings of semi-serious action, CGI blood, swearing and a whole heap of Melissa McCarthy and other actresses. Basically the plot revolves around McCarthy playing Cooper, a desk jockey CIA analyst who helps the very suave, completely clichéd character of Fine played by Jude Law. Yep, if you ever wanted to see what it would be like having Jude Law as Bond, well here you go. After a botched mission Fine is supposedly killed off and the CIA need someone to take his place, an unknown, hence they can't use Statham who plays another totally clichéd agent character we've all seen before. We then follow Cooper around as she slowly but surely sinks deeper and deeper into a mission, which she was never really suppose to get into in the first place (she was only meant to be surveillance).

Oh geez where to start, the plot is unoriginal sure, we all know that, but how about some original ideas...oh too late. From the very first scene I had a good idea what this film was aiming at and how the characters would play out. Spoiler alert! but the minute you see Law as this debonair spy, you know he's obviously gonna die early on, he's clearly the plot setup for McCarthy's Cooper, I mean come on, who didn't see that?! But wait! as the film progresses and more and more characters are introduced, we start to see double agents and characters popping up outta nowhere who are suddenly spies or assassins. All of sudden characters we saw at the start who appeared to just be the butt of a joke or background fodder, are now main characters out to kill the protagonist. Its at this point you know that anyone is fair game and anyone can surprisingly come back from the dead when you thought they had been killed off. So I quickly realised that Jude Law probably wasn't dead at all. Seeing as we didn't actually see him die, clearly he can come back, and he did...*groan*

The plot is a mess of characters bouncing back and forth between the goodies and the baddies. Seriously, there are characters popping up all over the place, getting whacked, and then replaced minutes later by new ones, only to get killed just as quickly. The ones that don't get killed, you just know are probably gonna turn out to be secret agents, but on either side. I honesty thought Law's character of Fine was gonna keep flippin' sides! he was a goodie, then a baddie, then a goodie again, but at this point I genuinely suspected he would turn on Cooper yet again right at the death, and then get properly killed off. Amazingly the film beat me on that one, but this film could of kept spinning these characters round and round, one double agent twist after another.

The actual characters are a completely mixed bag of nuts that all had one thing in common, none of them managed to actually make me laugh...at any point. McCarthy was...well, pretty much like McCarthy is in every bloody movie she's ever done (whilst looking oddly like Dawn French at one point), whilst her sidekick, played by Brit Miranda Hart, was just simply annoying and unfunny. I swear, an early scene near the start has McCarthy and Law in conversation at dinner, they are both talking about themselves and offering basic foreshadowing of things to come. Now initially there are moments that made me smile (as there were throughout this film), but this obviously intended funny sequence just went on and on and on...it just didn't f*cking stop. Like seriously, the moment has passed, the joke is over, its not funny anymore its just awkwardly embarrassing, stop flogging this dead horse!!

The only characters that did offer some genuine giggles were Statham as a dumb, cocky but tough agent, nothing gobsmackingly funny mind you, but reasonable. Next to him I quite liked Peter Serafinowicz as the slimy Italian (yet another secret agent) Aldo who can't keep his hands off the ladies. Sure this character felt like a cheesy 'Carry- On' character (something I would of thought was beyond the realms of acceptance for Feig), but his antics were amusing. Other than that everyone was just there, doing exactly what you expected them to be doing with these character types. Get a load of Law by the way, how much flippin' makeup?? Oh and both Statham and the main baddie fall into the lake from that helicopter at the end, so why does only Statham survive?

I know this movie was relatively successful but I don't really understand why. Yes some parts were good such as the gadgets sequence near the start which is obviously yet more parodies of a certain franchise, and I did quite like how the main female villain was a spoilt bratty Princess type, although again that did become annoying at times too. But in general everything just felt very generic to me and relied far too much on feeble visual gags including male genitals and slapstick, lots of profanity and lots of weight/looks shaming jabs. Even the inclusion of lots of blood and a bit of gore didn't do anything for me, that just felt unnecessary and shoved in to appease the male audience. I would say this was more enjoyable than 'The Heat' which was pretty dire, but at the end of the day, I found this to be an infantile, factory assembly line, cookie cutter of a flick.

'Spy'' is an incredibly hilarious and smart comedy, one of the best in years.
''Spy'' has great characters that are all memorable, perfectly portrayed by the actors. (Jason Statham in particular) It's a very smart satire/parody on the famous Spy genre, making fun of Bond, Bourne and Mission Impossible, which the movie does with ease and not to abruptly. Also compliments to ''Melissa McCarthy'' breaking her stereotype of only playing stupid fat girls that are constantly made fun of, now she plays a strong heroin that you dont want to F with. (there still are moments where there is poked fun at her so called ''large-ness, but those are in the minority) Is the overall plot original, no, is the villain original and special, no, but does this movie bring in the laughs? BIG TIME!

I want to keep it short, ''Spy'' is hilarious, you'll have a great time watching it with whomever, whenever. Is the movie flawless, no ofcourse not, it still has its cheesy moments, but those dont ruin the film. You'll have a great time watching ''Spy''

The thing is, there are plenty of laughs to be had from watching this movie, and not a single one of them comes from McCarthy's protagonist. It's all the same old "joke on her looks/weight" and "a plump woman can kick ass" lame gags. The fun here comes from secondary characters, like Jason Statham and Peter Serafinowicz. Also the celebrity playing themselves gag could've been done better, in case of 50 cent.
Anyway, it's still pretty funny and I'd recommend watching it.

I'm quite confident the last hour of the film will be as good or better, so this film gets a first-ever, pre-finish "9" from me. Expand

Hilarious movie you should watch now. Spy is a great movie, and has a lot of great humor, with good actors, even some you wouldn't expect in a comedy, like Jason Staham but he's still great, and man is that British chick fine.

Mellisa Mccarthy is of corse the main highlight but it's Rose Byrne and Jason Statham who come us as pleasant surprise and not to forget the massive use of F word followed by sexual harassment and dress criticism.
Action sequence are very thrilling as are all of Melissa's get ups and he entries. Writing is impressive and just brings the twists and laughter altogether keeping list of rooms for sequels.
Complete entertainment and 200% worth of money n time.

As a result her characterSurprisingly a movie that doesn't just rely on McCarthy being as vulgar as she can. I mean don't get me wrong, there is plenty of raunchy, vulgar humor with lots of profanity, but McCarthy herself seems toned down. As a result her character is much more endearing, and this very well might be the best film of her career.

To be honest the whole cast is fantastic. Everyone contributes to the jokes in their own way. Particular standouts include Miranda Hart and Jason Statham. They soar as the best of the supporting cast. It's the theme that really keeps things together though. It's a wonderful send up to spy movies. It even has a James Bond style music opening.

There are many laugh out loud moments to be found. However there are jokes that land with a thud. Especially during the film's slow opening. However once things get going it turns into a funny, if not always hilarious, combination of the spy and comedy movie genres. On particularly impressive thing about the movie is that it does feel like a real spy movie, just with more humor than the average affair. Most combinations on these two genres end up feeling a little mixed as they usually end up feeling like more comedy than spy movie. This one combines them well.

As a result we get some surprisingly well done action scenes. The plot itself is actually very tight as well. The cool thing about it is that it doesn't feel like it's making fun of McCarthy in the process. You are actually able to sympathize with her character. She feels like a real person as opposed to just some laugh sack created for the sole purpose of delivering profanity laced shock humor.

It's McCarthy's best character and arguably her best film. It's got plenty of laughs and an all around excellent cast. While not a laugh riot there is still enough funny stuff here to make it worth a watch, eve if you don't typically like McCarthy's work. Heck, it's even a solid spy film that fans of that genre could check it out and enjoy it, so long as they don't mind added humor.

I give the movie a 7.5/10

Maybe spyIn keeping with the spy theme, and having in recent months seen Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation, The Man from U.N.C.L.E, and Spectre, it is high time to review the film that spoofs them all—Spy, with Melissa McCarthy and Jude Law. Maybe spy spoofs have been done before, but McCarthy makes this one unique, because she is so screwball that you either sit there in dismayed disbelief or keep a box of tissues on hand to wipe tears of laughter from your eyes.

Jude Law is the blond-haired, blue-eyed CIA spy, Bradley Fine, who is so suave and elegant, he could easily stand in for Daniel Craig. Unlike the British 007, however, he cannot make a move without his backup, Susan Cooper, played by Melissa McCarthy, who sits at a CIA office computer with an earpiece, GPS tracking, and surveillance cameras. A trained spy herself, she is deskbound, and her job is to support Fine and give him a heads up whenever he is in danger. Fine is attached to Cooper at his end with his own earpiece, and she directs his every move. She is understatedly brilliant, and he can't function without her.

At the start Fine is acting like the American answer to James Bond, in attendance at a garden party for the filthy rich, wearing a tuxedo, and bent on a dangerous mission. He sniffs out the criminal he is seeking in the basement, the only man who can tell Fine where to find a suitcase nuclear bomb that will cause devastation in the wrong hands. The evil gangster scornfully dismisses the gun Fine aims at him, noting that if Fine kills him, he'll never find the bomb. Fine is equally scornful but before he can adequately reply, he sneezes, accidentally pulling the trigger and killing the mobster. After Fine's WTF outburst, he consults with Cooper via earpiece, who takes the blame for forgetting to pack his antihistamines. Shortly after, Fine breaks into the home of the mobster's daughter, where Cooper, back at the office, is shocked and devastated to see Fine killed on camera. After that, she convinces her boss to send her out into the field to find the suitcase nuke, since she knows who all the players are while she remains unknown to the criminal mobsters.

Thus begins the slapstick world tour of Susan Cooper. Her bosses insist on giving her disguises that make her look even plainer and dumpier than she really is. One frumpy wig and T-shirt ensemble is such that Cooper complains, “I look like someone's homophobic aunt.” In Rome, the Italian men drive around in Ferraris obnoxiously shouting out admiring remarks to beautiful women on the street; Cooper gets passed over without comment. She is not unaware of the fact that she is overweight and considered to be drab and baggy, but she relies on her sharp intellect and self-deprecating wit to openly confront society with their ambivalence about her appearance. (In real life, McCarthy is overweight but actually very pretty.) The silly plot is about a different kind of superhero—the timid, tubby female understudy who is lucky to be even peripherally associated with such glamorous spy activity becomes the chief operative. And she prevails.

(Tiny spoiler—Jude Law's character doesn't really get killed.)

A redefined wonderful spy movie.

I know Melissa McCarthy since 'Gilmore Girls', but never thought she would rise this far, especially to dominate in a movie with the presence of the big names around her, that too in an action film equivalent to top quality. She's one of my favourite actresses, even I enjoyed thoroughly her under-appreciated 'Tammy'. So this is where the action stars become comedians and comedians action stars. Indeed, it worked out so well.

It shames comedy-spy flicks like 'The Pink Panther', 'Johnny English' etc. From the director of 'The Heat', helmed another perfect female oriented comedy. Jude Law was a decent as usual, but Jason Statham was unbelievably awesome in his tiny part. I had plenty of good laughs, the loud ones after a long time. I still remember the unicorn joke and I can't stop laughing. And roof over a bike, gadgets and so on... I find Melissa McCarthy's line deliverance are so funny and I enjoy her films specially for that reason.

I know they used a stunt double and blue/green screens in the crucial segments for a better result. But still she excelled in all stunt sequences that required physically herself in front of the camera. One of the trivia says, after the end of each day shooting, she looked like fell down an elevator shaft. Her hard work definitely paid off very well.

There are lots of adult oriented comedy, so strictly it is for grownups only and may be matured teens. I'll be definitely disappointed if they won't make a sequel for this. If they do, I hope they retain all the cast, especially Statham along the lead actress. And finally I'm looking forward the director-actress's the third collaboration, 'Ghostbusters'.

TheJust when I thought that Melissa McCarthy had worn out her comedic welcome (thanks to Tammy and Identity Theft, a bad one-two punch), I guess all she needed was her Bridesmaids and The Heat director Paul Feig to get her out of her slump. The plot is very similar to Get Smart (or even Johnny English). When all the other agents are compromised, a lower level assistant is recruited to field work. The difference is that McCarthy's character is very good at her job. And it's the characters she bounces off of and their interaction that makes this movie work, beside the chase scenes and action sequences (which are all staged well) . Jason Statham plays off his macho image brilliantly, with every manly boast getting more absurd. Rose Byrne continues her comedy streak as the **** And just as Fieg introduced Rebel Wilson to American audiences in Bridesmaids, Brit Miranda Hart is great as the gawkward best friend. The plot is not so absurd to get aboard the nonsense train nor realistic enough to be "plausible". Limbo is bad.

The only good thing of this movie is acting, almost all actors are extremely good on their roles, which is why this movie gets this score (for me).

If we look back on 2015; it's easily going to be the year of spy movies. I mean; Mission Impossible, Kingsman, Bond and other smaller original flicks like The Man From U.N.C.L.E, or in this case; Spy. Yes it's a comedy, but does that make the film forced to be funny? Some of the humorous moments are flat and doesn't come as great as they could have come. But I still had a good time with its unpredictable storyline and random & hilarious jokes. But some moments are just slow and non-interesting and the movie lacks heart, especially when it comes to rememberable humorous scenes. Sure there are some of them but there aren't that many. The biggest flaw in my opinion must be the awful CGI and the annoying slomo-moments. The greatest aspect is on the other hand the well chosen actors and it's the personalities of the main characters that totally steals the show! The comedy-genre is a risky business; jokes will always grow old and Spy is no exception. It's an okay movie for the first-timer, but not more than that. I saw Spy yesterday, and yes I had a great time with it but I've already forgotten it, it's just a one-timer.

But it's really enjoyable to watch, even though it lacks heart of a Mission Impossible-alike, and a less messier spy flick.

This was a fast paced, tongue in cheek satire that was clever, intelligent and punctuated by frequent hilarity. Mcarthy is brilliant, and Statham displays a hitherto unseen sense of comic timing that was utilised to great effect. A surprising script peppered with every expletive you can think of, and probably some you can't, and some rather visceral violence ensures that Mcarthy will be thought of alongside other famous on-screen spies. The action sequences were excellent and the dialogue was absolutely superb, with so many memorable lines. In the same league as Kingsmen, though not quite as polished, this was a thoroughly enjoyable film. 8.79/10 Expand

An entertaining and hilarious film where Melissa McCarthy was for once in the limelight and not statham. Overall well acted and met the intentions of being funny.

I think it was easily Melissa McCarthy and Rose Byrnes best comedic work to date. And major props to both Jason Statham and Jude Law who absolutely killed it in this move. If they do a sequel, they need to at the very least get Statham back as his character was brilliant.

I will see this again when it comes out on DVD as I missed a few lines due to audience laughter. FWIW, there's an end of credit outtake that's worth checking out.

There hasn't been a comedy this good and this consistently funny since maybe The Lego Movie, but I would argue that Spy is even better than that. Spy is about a CIA analyst, played by Melissa McCarthy, who has to go undercover after her partner falls off the grid to prevent a global disaster. I love Melissa McCarthy, but this is by far her best role I've seen her in. She's an extremely versatile actress, who can make pretty much every type of joke a hit. They're all perfectly timed and delivered so that, even if the jokes themselves aren't all that funny, the timing and delivery made them so much better than they should have been. The plot itself is a little thin, but there are some good twists towards the end. It almost doesn't matter because of how much you'll be laughing throughout the movie. You definitely won't want to pass this up when it gets into theaters in June. It'll be one of the best times you've had at a theater in a while. Expand

The film is suppose to be a spoof on spy movies, but the thing, I don't think the director of this movie really understands what a spoof is. Sure, the movie goes through about every spy-movie cliche within the first 10 minutes, but it's all done in a straight-faced serious way. There is a handful of interesting moments, but for the amount of absolute garbage that surrounds these interesting moments, there really isn't enough here for me to recommend this movie.

Beyond the whole spy parts of this movie, we have Melissa McCarthy trying to be funny.... and that's it. That's all this movie has to offer.

Like I said earlier, if you are into this sort of 7-pm-American-cable-TV-comedy (which attempts to appeal to as large of an audience as possible and in doing so removes any resemblance of character or personality said show might have) then this movie is just for you. Otherwise, just don't watch this movie.

"I once drove a car off a freeway, on top of a train, while I was on fire. Not the car -- I was on fire!" Growls Jason Statham’s Super macho super spy during one of many hilarious scenes in this Over the top spy comedy.

"I once drove a car off a freeway, on top of a train, while I was on fire. Not the car -- I was on fire!" Growls Jason Statham’s Super macho super spy during one of many hilarious scenes in this Over the top spy comedy.

Subtle this isn’t! What it is, is stuffed with Hilarious performances from all the lead actors and an absolutely scene stealing performance from Jason Statham’s as a super Macho parody of his normal action hero persona.

Spy is a raucous in your face Spy comedy that also has really good amount of entertaining action, McCarthy is excellent in the comedic elements and surprisingly proficient in the action scenes.

The standout action sequence being a brutal hand to hand and knife to knife (and frying pan to knife and.... on and on ) that was not only the best fight in the film but on par with some of the best action scenes in the genre (yes I would include the Bourne fights).

McCarthy manages to be swing between awkward secretary and bad ass super spy and does so in a convincing and entertaining way.

The plot plays around in silly spoof territory with just enough serious elements thrown in to make this feel like more then just a spoof but actually a pretty competent spy thriller, between this and Kingman we are having a pretty good year for the spy genre so far 8.5 out of 10 but I rounded the score up to 9.

A Hilarious Movie. It was what it was designed to be a spoof and play off of spy movies. We all loved it. The characters were just cheesy enough. Had a blast watching it. Worth seeing.

jokes that hit one two
but only one lands, the other with a thud
The Beaches watch is the funniest moment
Jason Statham is quite good, though

Well, I'm not fat, and I find it appalling that this movie tries to appeal to the audience through a one dimensional "look she's fat" character. No better than Paul Blart Mall Cop (the first one) to be completely honest.

The movie aims for the lowest common denominator and hits the bulls eye as it does have obvious commercial appeal. However, it is more offensive for that very fact than for the propensity of four letter words that are tiresomely uttered in almost every line of dialogue. This excuse for a screenplay seems as if it has been written by a ten year old who has just learnt how to swear. It is disgracefully unfunny and this constant use of expletives is a sign of desperation which only succeeds in insulting an ‘Intelligent’ audience. It’s sad to find actors like Jude Law and Rose Byrne complicit in this junk. On the other hand Melissa McCarthy is in her element. She is actually a good enough comedienne but this material is, as Miranda Hart rather aptly puts it ‘extraordinarily out of her league’. Miranda Hart, herself, is just embarrassing. Hopefully, this will abort any further chances she may have had of a Hollywood career. Ditto Jason Statham who should recognise his limitations and stick to his unambitious, and usually not very good, action movies. He is way out of his depth here attempting comedy.
The movie also feels very disjointed with scenes created just to hang the limp and unfunny jokes on. If it wasn’t for the opening couple of sequences involving Law this would have warranted a zero from me. The only other praise I will offer is to the music score which deserves to be appreciated lacing a more accomplished film.
