It was great to see Speed Racer on the big screen. I grew up with Speed Racer and I wanted to share the experience with my kids. I highly recommend the film if you are a fan of Speed Racer!

Very much loved the movie. Most enjoyable movie I've seen in ages. However it is not the best. There are bits which are a bit childish and wont appeal to adults. Likewise, there is alot of complex dialogue that wouldnt appeal to kids. Very much loved the movie. Most enjoyable movie I've seen in ages. However it is not the best. I loved this movie It really hit me in the part of my mind that is 7 yrs old still. and I hate that the critics are so wrapped up in art house bores to know that they are seeing fun entertainment with a lot of heart and imagination. I'm very, very picky about movies, but I had an absolute blast at "Speed Racer" and I'm not ashamed to say so. The movie never snickers, condescends, or mocks its story or characters. The story had a lot of heart as well, it brought a tear to my eye on more than one occasion, to my great and pleasant surprise. The critics missed the mark on this one, and I'm glad to see so many MC users give the film the praise I think it richly deserves. Absolutely top notch and dead spot-on casting all the way around as well. I found it hard to resist a movie made with so much obvious love, affection, and visual creativity. "Speed Racer" is a misunderstood minor masterpiece, in my ever so humble opinion.… Expand

A visual feast that's not anywhere near as bad as haters will have you believe. Just don't go expecting the deepest plot around and just go see it to have fun and you'll definitely enjoy it all. My family loved this movie. I think it has been unjustly criticized--it's a movie about a cartoon racer, it's not trying to be "Schindler's List" people! Just relax and enjoy it for what it is--a thrilling and beautiful ride!

Great entertainment........as a Speed Racer fan since I was 10 years old, I could not have asked for anything more....except maybe even more scenes with the mach 5. Stunning, gorgeous, exciting, thrilling, the funnest time I've had at the movies in 5 years. Yes, the plot is thin, but the emotional moments pack a punch. Everything in this movie was ridiculously over the top. It's the cinematic equivalent of cotton candy laced with espresso. I LIKED it! Incredibly entertaining movie despite the surprising low reviews. What the critics don't realize is that this is a stylized film that is like an anime come to life. BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY EVER!!!! GO WACHOWSKI BROS!!!

John Goodman fights a Ninja. That's worth 10 bucks right there. It's completely absurd but it's fast and fun and it captures the spirit of the old cartoon. It boggles my mind how poor the ratings are for this movie. I've seen it twice already and cannot wait to purchase it on Blu-Ray when it comes out. I enjoyed the camera work and the silliness of many parts. There was very little in this movie that I did not like. I find it hard to believe that so many "critics" rated this film so poorly. I thought the Wachowski brothers hit all of their marks. I grew up on this show, now my kid is watching the DVD's. The movie hits it dead on, is vastly entertaining and awesomely colored visuals. Nice message about the importance of family. Lots of fun. The critics are too cool for school.

I went with my girlfriend not expecting a whole lot but in the end the movie won me over with it's style and heart. It wont be everyone cups of tea but give it chance. I don't know what movie the critics saw because I thought this movie succeeded on every level it was aiming for -- namely transforming a cartoon/video game world into a fun big screen experience. Fantastic movie for what it was. I came in expecting another Iron Man-esque retro cartoon hero turned modern, but was pleasantly to find it stuck to its' roots. I have been a fan for years since I was a kid and this lived up to everything I wanted it to be. The final race was a bit short but I almost didnt notice since it was so intense. I can honestly say that I haven't been that amped coming out of a movie since the original Star Wars!! It may be due to the love it or hate it aspects of it, in any case, this is definitely one of those situations where you're going to want to ignore the critics on this one. Earlier this year, I watched Horton, and that movie was so awful I actually walked out of the ending. How did that movie get good ratings?! I suspect foul play; I don't trust critics. If you're ever looking for an example of how to bring a Japanese animated show to life, I can't think of a better example than this film. Everything felt extremely well-balanced. The heavily-criticized opening scene, which involves a montage of Speeds' life and his defining career race well established the plot while fully immersing viewers into the action. I'm also a big fan of John Goodman, and I believe the heart-warming scene between him and Speed is probably among my top five film moments this year. Almost overshadowed by the ensuing race finale, which was, at the LEAST, one hell of a rush. Common complaints may be the length, which I believe derives from the desire from the directors to not have to take out anything conducive to the plot without compromising the plot development and over-all set-up for the films' thrilling finale. Or that the film was "experimental" and often "too colorful". Yes, it was a different experience than most typical movie affair, yes it seemed like someone over-did it on the ecstasy, but any of that hardly detracts from the experience. I love when movies strive to break out of the norm, going so far as to screw what the critics will think, and I loved this movie. I watched it about twice and fully enjoyed it both times. I've seen the ending several times already; every time I see it, it hits just as hard as the first time. Some may really hate this film for whatever reason, but I implore you: see this film! Note: IGNs' top film critic, Todd Gilchrist, submitted a very good review of this film. I'd recommend giving it a read.… Expand

Hugely enjoyable. I see no reason as to why the big guys are slamming this one. Sure, it's like driving your 200 mph supercar down the road to insanity, but it's a fun trip. I personally got dragged to this movie and thought it was gonna suck based on all the bad reviews it got. Other than some bad acting trying to be like the original this movie rocked. I'm not really sure what the people who hated this movie were expecting. It pretty much lived up to everything I wanted from it and more. The story is extremely simple and really only provides a basic framework for the stunning visual feast that is essentially the real content of the film. The acting is competent but never great -- Matthew Fox is especially wooden and Emile Hirsch isn't quite the hero he ought to be -- and given the A-list actors here, it's understandable that people may be a bit underwhelmed by the performances (which could be potentially blamed on a so-so script)... But those racing sequences are so insane and mesmerizing that it's hard for me to not love this movie. I usually hate kids' movies and the humor here wasn't so much that it turned me off. The story-telling was clever in its flashbacks, always jolting you in one direction or another, just like the wild anti-physics of the racing itself. Despite any of the drawbacks of the film, I still really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who's looking for an entertaining, light but visually arresting experience in the theatre. (This won't translate well to the small screen.)… Expand

Excellent representation of TV Show. Great effects. Story kept you interested. Dying to see it again. First movie in years I will pay to see again. Whoever rates this movie poorly either never watched the TV show or is too "grown-up" to see movies.

It's not high art, it's pop art, a make-believe world where every color is saturated, every race is dream-like speed, the good guys look good, and the scruffy bad guys look, well, scruffy and bad. The aesthetic is an amalgam of anime/american comics/video games. And it's over-the-top funny, with lots of pokes at itself and its genre(s). C'mon, the Viking-dressed race team, who get their payoff as a big trunk full of furs - that they then run lovingly over their faces? That's funny! The critics (some of whom I greatly respect) who don't get this movie .... just don't get it. It's meant to be fun, light, over the top eye candy. That's all it is. And the back and forth time lines with the overlayered foreground talking heads to explicate plot lines and change scenes? Confusing at first, but then it makes sense: it's that comic book thing coming through. Mark my words, this will be a film people either love or hate - and in a few years, it'll be a cult film. Just a 10 to balance out the 0's. Otherwise an 8 or 9. I thought the movie was very enjoyable and it came across as the Wachowski brothers intended. You go to a movie like this expecting a movie like this; and if you have low expectations due to the critics' reviews you will be pleasantly surprised. Please note, I'm also the kind of guy who bashes idiots for getting bored watching flicks like "There Will Be Blood." So now it is my turn to say that the critics mainly blew it on this one. It is not the best movie ever, but fathers can't go wrong taking their sons to this. Even if their sons are in their 30's, unless they are so uptight they can't remember what it was like to be a kid.… Expand

It´s a good movie for what it intents to be: a Japanese cartoon ive action. It is fun and it captures the spectators attention. If your´re a speed racer fan it´s fantastic. A beautiful symphony of sights, sounds and movements. It has a genuine sense of awe to it and is more moving than most films I've seen this year. Terribly misunderstood; a cult classic in the making.

I could not believe how great this movie was. The ending alone was the best reason for seeing this movie the whole thing was like comparing it to the first time you hear a good Elton John song, the lights the cheering the explosion I could not believe how great this movie was. I love this movie regardless what the critics said. It was fun and I was surprised by the deep family story. Made me tear up at the end when Racer X revealed his true identity.

yeah, its awesome. the cast fits perfectly, the races were top-notch, and I got to listen to that kick *** song in the ending credits and I got so thrilled! so forget about the bad grade the critics gave to this movie.

After "The Matrix" trilogy the Wachowski's finally return to the big screen,the best they have to offer with the film gives us (some) squeaky clean humor and messages about teamwork, somehow the Wachowski's make a cheesy movie but on the other hand they turned the tables around and make a fun pulp action flick; Speed (Emile Hirsch) who lives with mother (Susan Sarandon), and Pops (John Goodman) also his mischievous little brother Spritle (Paulie Litt) with his little chimp Chim Chim (Kenzie and Wily) -- as well as Speed's mechanic Spark (Kick Gurry) and Speed's girlfriend Trixie (Christina Ricci). Speed idolized his brother Rex Racer (Scott Porter), who died in a fiery car crash. A purple clad industrialist Mr. Royalton (Roger Allam) woos Speed an offer, but Speed turns him down and sticks with Pops, Royalton threatens to destroy all the Racers. A mysterious racer named "Racer X" (Matthew Fox) helps Speed out. The film's an marvelous eye candy it isn't a turn your brain off movie, it just wants to entertain you. Who cares if the Wachowskis neglect the story line who care if the effects hurt your eyes. After watching the film it does actually cause some ripple effects, like The film may have a side effect of eating an entire bowl full of suga. The Wachowski's adaption of a cartoon hit is beautiful. I really liked the ending of this movie. The beginning was solid, even though the CGI race tracks were a little bit out there. I thought Matthew Fox was solid in this film. Everything else about this movie sucked--royally.

I created this account just to review Speed Racer.

I watched it in the theaters back in 2008 with my wife, and every couple years we watch it again. It is a movie with heart, a story about a bunch of people who really love each other and,I created this account just to review Speed Racer.

It is a movie with heart, a story about a bunch of people who really love each other and, even if the CGI is not aging that well, the plot and the wonderful group of actors who joined this wonderful film make it one of the best ever made.

Ever since I saw this movie in theaters, it has been my all time favorite film. When someone says "What's you're favorite movie" I say Speed Racer. I cried at the end. I cry every time at the end. I'm 32. I think it's probably the color saturation.

Look l know than this movie, don't deserve a "10"(is more for the nostalgic), there's a lot of cliches,"copy of scenes",bad comedy with a own story than isn't so WOW.

This is a beautiful movie full of action scenes and emotional moments. Often reviewed as 'unrealistic', but since when did we care so much for 'realistic' movies? Every movie has its bits of charm and this one will surely stay in my heart.

It’s 2007 and I’ve just finished my magnum opus of sorts, a hand drawn Mach-5 on my brother’s wall covering it from head to toe, that is how much speed racer was loved in my household so it’s no shocker when a live action adaption of theIt’s 2007 and I’ve just finished my magnum opus of sorts, a hand drawn Mach-5 on my brother’s wall covering it from head to toe, that is how much speed racer was loved in my household so it’s no shocker when a live action adaption of the classic anime was coming and by the ladies who did the matrix no less I was stoked to say the least. Given our situation at the time we didn’t go to the theatres as much as I wanted to we relied on family friends to lend us copies of their flicks from time to time. Speed Racer was one of those flicks and boy did it become something me and my brothers would forever cherish. See in the current landscape of film with such photorealism vfx exist it’s no surprise a film that is entirely green screen would turn off some people that feel as though it doesn’t look real. Yet I always back it up because it was intentional folks the Wachowskis wanted this to be like the anime just with real people and for me it works 100 percent, the races are exhilarating the acting is great , the soundtrack slaps , the colors really pop and every moment of this film is pure heart and madness in the best possible way. Mathew Fox is just acting his heart out as if he’s going to get an Oscar and I love him for it. Emilie Hirsch as Speed was perfect casting it was as if he leaped off the anime. I loved seeing him in his classic blue t-and white outfit. It’s too bad how his career went down he should have been a star. The last 40 minutes are one of the most heart pounding intense moments ever put to film for me. Seeing Speed put everything into wining seeing his family and wanting to change the game is inspiring and makes me cheer every time. In another world we would have gotten a bunch of sequels and spin offs. Love you forever Speed-Racer.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I Love this movie i really do my main issue is it doesnt stick to the source material too much.
Sure it has the characters Speed, Trixie, RacerX, Pops, Mom, Chim-Chim, Sparky, all of them. The rest of the movie besides the races is your typical mafia vs federal organization. Although The Mach 6 In the movie was never in the show, it was a fun car to add in though, i do give them props for creative liberties but the main focus of the show is a kid who feels like he has something to prove and does he becomes a pro racecar driver and finds his long lost, technically dead, brother and in the movie that does kind of happen but its explained in a weird way. The every race is an epileptic nightmare especially the last race sure its cool but it could give anyone a headache especially the zebras. and as a final note the cgi is so-so because you can see where the real people end and the cgi start.… Expand
