Science fiction without the fiction. The wild story of a group of astonishingly practical dreamers. Reminiscent of the ingenious astronaut growing potatoes on Mars in The Martian.

Even if not, Spaceship Earth will change your mind. Those who built Biosphere 2 in 1991, clearly heard scientists predicting dire effects of climate change with foresight denied even today. Quarantined voluntarily, unknowing then the threat of future pandemics, they demonstrated what could (can) be accomplished with a small group of practical and future thinking people. Expand

Biosphere 2 may have been ahead of its time, but is critically relevant now. A magnificent project that evoked small-minded criticism from some who do not see the big picture for insignificant flaws. See this film to see the stunning history. Expand

A beautifully made film that is a multi-dimensional experience about a multii-dimensional event - the creation of the extraordinary experiment in closed-system living in Tucson's Bioshere 2 during the 1990s. Absolutely gripping and fresh from start to finish. Simply not been a film like this. The people are in many ways as remarkable as the event itself, providing a prism on the highest human aspirations for sane creative living that might make a tremendous difference to humankind, while at the same time showing up with the human flaws that created the conditions they sought to address. So there's beauty, inspiration, wisdom, vision, heart, plenty of drama and a chunk of self-realization ignited by the Biosphere 2 tribe and the sweet art of filmmaker Matt Wolf. Expand

It says at one point in the documentary that it is an experiment and it will take two or three times before something like this will be successful. I don’t understand why the media attacked them so much for being brave enough to try. Expand

An inspired and inspiring film. Gives the back story which spans several decades to Biosphere 2. Sad the US media tried to trivialize and discount the project - so timely for where we are now with Earth's problems and the pandemic.

Not a very good documentary. Doesn't deal with the more interesting parts i.e. design, construction, finance, personalies etc. Spends a large amount of time on a uninteresting backstory. This doc explores that great experiment in1991 where 8 people lived for 2 years inside a giant structure meant to replicate Earth's ecology. The story starts with a group of hippies that formed a commune in the 70s and follows them thru their other endeavors, which culminated in this mostly-failed experiment. As documentaries go, this one is average. The subject is fascinating, but the structure and style is rudimentary and the pacing is too self-indulgent. It's an interesting look back at that unique event, but this telling could be trimmed more tightly. Expand
