Following the furore caused by Parasites, this South Korean production had a lot to say in its favor. It over-extends its stay, but Space Sweepers was an impressively ambitious sci-fi film.

There are several segments that are quite messy, and the story itself is not that solid but for the most part I think it's an experience that offers aptIt over-extends its stay, but Space Sweepers was an impressively ambitious sci-fi film.

There are several segments that are quite messy, and the story itself is not that solid but for the most part I think it's an experience that offers apt and competent thrills. It could be better? Of course.
With a better consistency it could have reached better levels but truth be told, I never found myself disappointed. I give it extra points for being a nice and interesting option outside the mainstream and the big franchises.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is 2092, Humans have vacated earth and now live on an orbiting home called UTS, located in upper earth orbit. Tae-ho, Captain Jang, Tiger Park, and a robot named Bubs are the crew of the ship Victory, a junk collecting ship that trades space junk for cash. While on a routine mission, the crew discovers a cargo ship containing a dangerous humanoid child named Dorothy. UTS' top security is looking for Dorothy which puts the crew right in the middle of the action to save earth from complete destruction. Tae-ho being the main hero, we get to see a glimpse into his backstory, but I do wish we got to know the rest of the teams' past a bit more, as the film gives us just enough to be invested in them. Captain Jang is a badass leader who does not take any **** from anyone. Tiger Park had some amazing moments, especially with Dorothy, who by the way, is my favorite character. Played by Ye-Rin Park, she adds such an entertaining dynamic to the crew. The film is filled with highs and lows as the crew find themselves in many insane space fights and also share a lot of wholesome family moments thanks to the presence of Dorothy. Bubs is one of the coolest robots you will ever see, and he is packing a punch worthy of any anime character. It reminds me of Saitama from One Punch Man; a funny hero that is packing a massive amount of power.

Filmmakers need to stop casting British actors as villains because as soon as I heard Richard Armitage speak, I knew he was playing that role and it ruined a very compelling speech as the film introduced him. I also felt his character was much more interesting without wanting to destroy the Earth. I also found the backstory connection with the crew a bit unnecessary, since it felt a bit forced to have to history with the villain.

I found myself immediately surprised by the space action as soon as the movie started, I was not expecting such impressive visuals from a film with a $20 million budget. The space traveling and fighting is so much fun, although I did have a bit of trouble following along at some moments. Many of the best sci-fi films make spaceships incredibly unique to distinguish between them, but because the majority of the secondary cast pilot similar ships, a few fights became hard to follow along with. The sets and production design were fantastic and I found myself fascinated with looking at the details within the sets, especially inside the ships. One other very cool detail the film addressed is how language would be spoken in the future. With no official language, everyone speaks their native language but they are translated through earpieces. We the viewer get a unique experience hearing multiple languages at once. My favorite parts of the film were all of the fun family humor on board the ship. With the addition of a major villain, the film makes a major shift in tone, and by the end, it seems to be a bit confused about what it wants to achieve. Though it is a really fun and entertaining film, its desire to explore every aspect of this future, takes away from its most interesting qualities like Space Sweeping. Overall, Space Sweepers has a few issues but it's still a very entertaining space movie with a great cast and epic space fights. If you are a fan of anime like Cowboy Bebop or Planetes, you will have a lot of fun.… Expand

A surprisingly enjoyable movie. The writing is nothing new to anyone in to sci fi, however the innovation tech on display are quite novel and offer a convincing look into a possible future. Despite being a Korean production you may hardly recognise it because while the main crew that we follow is korean we see and interact with ships and people from all nations. ingeniously the movie chooses to keep everyone's native language at all times because in this future everyone wears a translater. The subtitles are managed well for this. The cgi is really great as are the sets. There is a lot of production quality here and for the main cast the acting is great. Nothing special about the sound and I kept expecting the villain to be something special but alas, he was not. Not much room for a sequial here but I will be waiting for more sci fi from this studio.… Expand

Sweeper was a fun scifi movie. The story was really interesting, but the ending was too confusing and not really focus. The FX were really amazing, at the level of some AAA titles. I mean the space sequences could be compared to the Expanse,Sweeper was a fun scifi movie. The story was really interesting, but the ending was too confusing and not really focus. The acting was fair, some better the others, but overall very respectable. The sounds weren't really great and the soundtrack was forgettable. The robot was maybe, the best voice over into the movie. Really some emotional moments here and there that cemented the story. I give it 75%. A bit too long, and I think we didn't get enough of the villain backstory. A quality movie with a so, so ending.… Expand

It's like a live action anime with surprisingly good effects and excellent interior designs.

I enjoyed this movie a lot. It had great special effects, a good story line, and well liked characters. And while I may not think this deserves a 10, I'm giving it 1 because of Racist people with no taste in movies giving it a 0 justI enjoyed this movie a lot. this was one of the best space movies i ever seen, i saw the crit, i thought it will be bad, and like american movies and etc, but it wasn't like this at all !, it may make you feel that the movie is like cowboy and etc american movies atthis was one of the best space movies i ever seen, i saw the crit, i thought it will be bad, and like american movies and etc, but it wasn't like this at all !, it may make you feel that the movie is like cowboy and etc american movies at first, but every 10 mins you can know that what you are watching is different, VFX Is the best thing in the movie, the story was very amazing, the characters , and the acting, i give it 8/5 , but because people are hating this show for nothing i'll hit it with 10, because this movie have to be trending, more people most watch it, stay away..
