While it was a good movie I think the user score is a bit too high. Some of the jokes were funny but there was a good bit of Gen Alpha humor, Sonic honestly felt like anyone that's in high school so he did feel kinda cringe but he wasn't aWhile it was a good movie I think the user score is a bit too high. Why is this live action? it hurts the movie a whole lot. I've been a Sonic fan practically my whole life, I've experienced it's missteps like Sonic 2006 (underrated game, just saying, but I'm aware how bad it did) and Sonic boom rise of lyric and it's successes (like Sonic Unleashed, Sonic generations and the latest Sonic Frontiers). Did this adaption of the iconic blue blur disappoint? No. The story is charming and great to follow, there are countless game references that will make any fan fall in love and Sonic's final design was amazing and not a monstrosity like the original design we got back when they showed the first trailer back in mid 2019. Jim Carrey did a great job as Dr Robotnik, which was to be expected. Fans will love it, kids will love it, the whole family will love it.
My only criticism is the lack of music from the games. Sonic Unleashed's Endless Possibilities would have fitted very well in this film and the narrative.… Expand

I did genuinely have fun watching this in theaters, but Sonic was just a little too immature for my tastes. Good movie, but nothing mind blowing. I really liked Tom way more than I thought I would. Robotnick is around 1/3 of the movie and I loved every second of it. For a movie that got the butt-end of the jokes while it was in production, I must say. They did a good job fixing up our blue hero's face. Sonic The Hedgehog, in my opinion, is the definition of a 7/10 movie. It does everything it needs to do and more, making both casual audiences and fans happy, and only has a few problems holding it back from an 8/10 rating. The story is well-paced, while being a bit run-of-the-mill, the characters are heartfelt and well-written, the action is exciting while onscreen, but the use of the source material is rare, only showing up as Easter eggs or minor details. That last point, however, doesn't detract from the quality of the film. All in all, I think that Sonic the Hedgehog is a good - and almost great - film.… Expand

I think this movie is a must for every Sonic fan out there.

Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik/Eggman is just comedy gold, you can't take the characters he plays seriously afterwards, but I've never been able to do that with Dr. Robotnik/Eggman.
He also fits in very well with this mad scientist Robotnik/Eggman with his crazy nature.
Sonic's behavior is like that of a teenager who often cracks jokes, many of which I remember but others were also strange.
Whether you like the story that Sonic had to move from another universe to planet Earth because the echidnas hunted him down is up to you.
Video game adaptations are mostly bad than good, but this film convinced me otherwise that video game adaptations can be better than expected.… Expand

First Ben Schwartz as Sonic I’m so used to Roger Craig Smith as the Blue Blur he brings the entertainment that you only see when you feed your child so much sugar that he just runs around that a crazy person. The special effects look great finally the original design of Sonic looked horrible and the director listened to us and redesigned the character and did a great job. James Marston has a thing for CGI animals right because he was in Hop and now this but he did a great job. But of course everyone is saying about Jim Carrey and he was amazing it’s amazing to see him being a funny crazy dude again. Over all Sonic the Hedgehog is the best video game movie I have ever seen and I need a sequel go watch this movie in theaters now.… Expand

Didnt expect much, so I was surprised. It is a nice entertaining movie where the gags are working. Jim Carrey fits well to Dr. Robotnik, only Tika Sumpter as Maddie is overacting and annoying. Why does this have a +8 audience score? It wasn’t as bad as everyone thought, but it was far from good. It had predictable tropes and plots, and was overall generic. The only genuinely great part was Ben Swartz having a blast voice acting as Sonic.

Luckily, my cousins were watchin' this movie, so I got to see it. It was... alright, but story-wise it ain't nothin' special (pretty common for Sonic). The one thing that would've made me drop the score to a zero is Sonic doing the flossing thing from Fortnite. Not even the fart joke, the **** Fortnite dancing. As if the movie needed some reasons for me to hate it. When you resort to Fortnite "jokes" for laughs, you know you ain't **** when it comes to humor.

Also, Sonic isn't Flash nor Quicksilver (although comparable). He doesn't generate energy as he runs and he can't run so fast that time seems to stop so he can **** around with everyone or everything in the vicinity. Actually, there's a few times where he ain't even runnin' and time stops.

Anyway, the movie isn't meant to be taken seriously; it's just another Sonic continuity separate from all the other ones. I don't think they should make another one though.… Expand

Everyone in my class used to say their favourite superhero to be Spider-Man, Batman, Superman etc, but when I'd say I like Sonic, everyone made fun of me. Not just because Sonic is supposed to be "childish" as they called it (because ignorance is bliss; they'd even think Conker's Bad Fur Day is childish because it has animals as main characters). And I swore that one day when Sonic gets a movie and all normies start looking up to him then I will mock them.

When the first trailer of this movie was shown I almost had a mini heart attack. This was not just an atrocious design, it was a nightmare! Thanks to the petitions and Paramount listening to the fans, they finally redesigned Sonic. And then when I finally watched the movie, it felt so satisfying. I had never watched superhero cartoons or read the comics, so I suppose this is the same joy Marvel fans get when they see MCU movies. Today was my turn to take the joy.

I really like how they chose to focus more on character development than the story, which is absolutely necessary because they are setting it up for a franchise. They should not rush anything. In the first movie Sonic and Donut Lord have established their friendship and in the post credit we see Tails come to Green Hill looking for Sonic. Also Eggman gets trapped on Mushroom planet in the end which is where Sonic 3 & Knuckles takes place, so it's clear that Knuckles will also appear in the post credit scene of the second movie.

Sonic fans are known to be toxic. And I was also one of them as a kid. So for us fans, this movie is like a dream come true. People here are criticising how slow and cliché the plot was, and even I really hope they come up with something original and more fun in the sequel.… Expand

Not a die hard Sonic fan. I did play the games when I was young but not enough to remember any of the story lines. This movie is fun and caters to both young and adult audiences. I enjoyed it in the theater and own it on Blu Ray.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I didn't expect it at all to be a masterpiece. I just had the deep hope it would not be the mess it actually is.
The beginning of the movie is almost excellent: we are introduced to the plot, Sonic is kind of attractive and lovable, the pace is great, everything is beautiful, everything is fine and clear. Since the beginning there are some really funny jokes, memes and easter eggs.

But as we go further in the plot the movie totally decompose itself in front of our amazed eyes. Firstly it can even stop itself from making immesurable inconsistencies and mistakes. How does nobody see Sonic when he is in 'hyper-speed' mode since he can't prevent himself to leave huge blue trails behind him? Since when can Sonic freeze time? Is he Flash? Don't think so! Why and how is Sonic concerned about some so-called hero leaving a ridiculous town? How does he manage to walk on vertical walls? How can he survive a fall from the top of a skyscrapper? How can he create electricity? How can the total world forget the hero is wanted as a terrorist?

Then comes the bar scene. I identify it as the moment where everything falls apart. Sonic died during this insane scene. How come nobody reacts to this blue huge hedgehog dancing among them? How could Sonic the hedgehog have the sentence 'have a bar fight' in his bucket list? Come one! He is an icon for (young and old) children! Why do we have to overcome all this coarseness and vulgarity? Why does it have to be so childish? Is this movie for adults or kids? Because both of them don't find their count here. After that I didn't even want to know of this mess ends.

As we slowly go away from this awful terrific horrible disgarceful ugly bar scene we begin to see Sonic from every angle. And so realize that he really is ugly! I know they already did an effort on characters' design but hey: we see Sonic's nostrils and they are awful! His spines and 'hair' are disgusting too. The closer the camera gets to him the more repelling he appears.

I guess I have to talk about Carrey as Robotnik in here. So let's do it: he is the main reason I don't give this movie a 0/10. Yes he is overacting like in 'The Mask' or in 'Ace Ventura'. He is the author of 80% of the jokes I laughed at. Doesn't mean he is not a total loser. His button-gloves are terrible and useless. I wonder how many people he killed just to catch a strange hedgehog... He even blast one of the seven wonders! The end in town is particularly ridiculous.

There are some interesting ideas and jokes all along but the final product is really ugly. Plus Sega can't stop putting their names everywhere: at the beginning and at the end just to make sure everyone saw them. Yeah you have a lot of money, congrats you greedy uninspired people. I surely don't want to see this movie again and I guess this is the perfect proof of its absolute mediocrity.… Expand
