It was so fast paced and had many funny moments such as the wedding with the only issue being the movies too fast paced, eg: tails and knuckles are meeting sonic in the same few minutes. Overall fun and great movie just a shame it didn't have more time to breathe… Expand

A good film, but I'm not sure it has improved on the original. It's great to see see Tails and Knuckles in it, and Jim Carrey is excellent again as Dr Robotnic. However James Marsden seems to get a much reduced role this time, and there's aA good film, but I'm not sure it has improved on the original. However James Marsden seems to get a much reduced role this time, and there's a pointless subplot about a wedding involving a very minor character from the first film. Knuckles is constantly going on about "honour", basically acting as though he's a klingon. The effects are great but they come at you so thick and fast it's quite relentless by the end. Anyone who stayed after the credits know we have Shadow coming up for the next film. I just hope they bring in Amy as well and have more comedy moments. This film had too much of Sonic dodging Dr Robotnic's missiles and not enough quiet humour.… Expand

Great movie. Almost started right where the last movie left off. Story is equal to or better than the last movie despite what Critics say. But why would fans of the sonic movies listen to critics?

Amusing, silly and fun. This was a noticeable improvement from the first movie packed with some fun Easter eggs from the sonic games and general pop culture. Jim Carrey brought his comic book a-game to robotnic and the returning cast and newAmusing, silly and fun. A truly good sequel. Like the first movie it has a great cast with an amazing Jim Carrey, good humor and fan service that brings a smile to the faces of Sonic fans. The first movie is one of the very few good videogame adaptation and theA truly good sequel. Like the first movie it has a great cast with an amazing Jim Carrey, good humor and fan service that brings a smile to the faces of Sonic fans. The first movie is one of the very few good videogame adaptation and the second is one of the few sequels that rivals the first movie. I am still undecided which one was better. It is a continuation of the first movie with new characters and the strengths of the prequel to give a short description. Several months have passed since the conclusion of the first movie. Dr. Robotnik is still trapped on the mushroom planet but is still trying to get back to earth to get his revenge on the blue hedgehog while Sonic lives with the Wachowskis in Green Hills. He has problems as he uses his powers to be a hero but is a bit to reckless and makes not the smartest decisions (= Unpolished diamond with hearth of ghold like many hero's). Meanwhile Dr. Robotnik used his resources for a way out when he gets the attention of a new character. I am a bit vague to avoid spoilers but the movie poster spoils everything already so I am not sure if it would count as spoiler. However it is time for a rematch. The story is enjoyable, a great vessel for the humor and garnered with hearth warming scenes atop good fan service. I don't know why fan service is hated in movie studios as you please fans with it especially if done right like in this movie. The movie is entertaining from start to epic finish would be my final description for the story while I admit that there is a least a serious logical error (Think about the time for the set up for the wedding and resolve). The characters work again amazingly well. Be it Jim Carry as Dr. Robotnik who is so enjoyable and entertaining. It is Jim Carrey at his best and we want to see him return. Sonic and the two other characters I wont spoil work amazing and are completely believable. They are as good as we want them to be and we had higher expectations. James Marsden and Tika Sumpter as the Wachowskis are adorable good. Lee Majdoub as (Agent?) Stone is a hidden gem and Shemar Moore together with Natasha Rothwell are amazing too. We have a great cast and I cant complain the slightest. Please let everyone return for the next movie. The humor works so well and I think there was no misfire. The first movie has the better moments but this one is also truly good. The special effects are top notch and give a great style of the iconic characters. Overall this was better than anticipated and for a sequel truly amazing. I round it up to a 10/10 because a good sequel should be praised as there are so many awful sequels out there. Watch the credit scene to be hyped for the sequel which is in production if I read it right.… Expand

Overall, I liked this movie. 6/10, light 7. They did Sonic, Knuckles and Tails PERFECT. I LOVED Jim Carrey as Eggman, again. Except for some super cringe parts he did. Also, the whole parent thing with Tom, Maddie and Sonic was, in my opinion, super unneeded. I wanted Sonic and Tails and Knuckles. Show me more, in-depth, of Sonic and Tails' friendship. There were some other super cringe scenes that I didn't enjoy and 2 pointless characters, but the 3rd act was amazing. Made me enjoy it even more. Children will definitely enjoy it. I am still looking forward to a 3rd Sonic movie. I hope they focus more on Sonic and his world/friends rather than humans. I don't care about humans anymore.… Expand

I loved it! It gave us almost everything I wanted to see in a Sonic The Hedgehog movie. It had Tails, Knuckles, Eggman’s logo, his big Egg-mobile, Giant Eggman robot, the Chaos Emeralds and of course our surprise guest at the very end.

“Sonic the Hedgehog 2” was a blast to watch and it was even more entertaining than the first movie. You can tell that the people who worked on the film did their homework and know the franchise enough to deliver a fun movie for long time“Sonic the Hedgehog 2” was a blast to watch and it was even more entertaining than the first movie. You can tell that the people who worked on the film did their homework and know the franchise enough to deliver a fun movie for long time fans and casuals a like to enjoy. I can say with confidence that the Sonic movies are the best movies based on a videogames series (Though, I’m not sure that’s saying a lot.)

If there was one thing I didn’t like about the movie, it would be all the stuff involving the Non-Sonic characters. It just felt like they existed to stretch out the length time a bit and they didn’t contribute all that much. Don’t forget to stick around for the mid-credits scene, it will BLOW YOU AWAY!

I hope you bring you’re A-game, untitled Illumination Mario film, cuz the “Sonic the Hedgehog” movies have the bar set nice and high for ya! … Expand

Stupid picture. I am not the target audience of this film and therefore the movie is too childish and stupid for me. A lot of meaningless scenes. But the action is very good.

Why are people complaining so much? This movie was pretty good all around. Not great by any means but pretty solid. And it is suitable for most audiences if you know what you’re going into.

I didn't really like the movie to be honest, I thought there was to much uninteresting parts like the wedding parts, I found there was to much dialogue that A. wasn't funny and felt they took up so much and B. Annoying & over reacting to silly parts like the rings. It kinda felt like they are building up the hype and boom the wedding take's up so much screen time and fought that wow great characters that are not interesting to watch or listen to is now on screen. Just a FYI I don't find Americans funny but in this movie, I felt they tried so hard to make you laugh at silly things. Like the snow part when sonic slows down time to destroy those rockets but the rest of the movie he gets his arse kicked. Now I went to see this twice before I came here first time I seen it I was on my own and second time I bought my daughter and her reaction was it, was childish and wasn't funny or fun to watch. Which is why I'm leaving my review on this movie. If you are going to make a third movie remove all useless characters and just have Sonic, Knuckles, Tails and Robotnik.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There are both streanghts and weaknesses. Personaly, I could not enjoy this movie. I remember a very quiate theater not showing a single reaction. They try very hard to make Sonic funny and every damn joke just lands flat and uninspiring, theres very little character development with Tails, and this movie is overall trying to act like a very lazy kids movie. There are way to many plotholes and very convenient moments that makes this movies look like it was rushed. And the family dinamic and message has been done to death. Hollywood creativity could not die any faster. There are very easy to fix problems in this movie. The fact that they never put the time and effort to fix them showed me just how little they cared avout this movie,or its probably all done on purpose knowing how cheap the audience is.… Expand

There were a few cringe moments, but apart from them, this film is amazing, better than the first (though that was great too) and a masterpiece of a film. 10/10, the acting and the voice acting was great and this film really dug into Tails' personality really well and fleshed him out as a really good character. A smart child who just wants to be noticed and have a friend. It's also great they kept tails original voice actor, Colleen (sorry can't spell or pronounce her surname). Knuckle was also really well done. Idris Elba did a great job voicing him.
Jim carry did a great job (as he always does in his films) with playing eggman again, any film with Jim in it has an advantage BC he is so good. The overall story was really good as well. Tails was a great addition and had amazing character development. And You can't review this film without mentioning the absolutely phenomenal super sonic scene. I mean, WOW!! Just that scene alone was a masterpiece.
It was really funny and the amount of references to past sonic game was amazing, especially the amount that referenced sonic adventure 2. And the post credit scene with Shadow the hedgehog, HELL YEAH. Really makes me excited for sonic movie 3 when it hits cinemas in December 2024. Now hopefully in the post credit scene of sonic 3 will see a glimpse or reference to Silver the hedgehog for the 4th, and that would just be the greatest thing to ever happen.
This film is a must see, and obviously as it was number one film in the world for a while. Well done paramount pictures.… Expand

Ich mag das Franchise Sonic an und für sich, aber wie zuletzt auch die Spiele können mich die Filme nicht ganz so überzeugen. Mir ist das alles zu albern. Das ist aber wahrscheinlich halt auch Geschmackssache.

But I don't think the movie is that good. All the references to the game had me excited, but when it was over it just kind of felt a bit empty. It is still of a fairly generic movie at it's core. Not to say this film is bad or anything. It's entertaining, but not necessary that good. It is decent I would say, but this is a only for people familiar with sonic should watch. If you don't care for Sonic at all, there is nothing really here for you.… Expand

The sonic movies are kids movies. I like many others may be full grown when we played sonic as kids, but there is no going to see these movies looking for deep thought conversations and complex relationships. I would be totally happy if sonic stayed like this in the movies if only because it does it so well where many other game characters have failed. It is only a total shame Carrey announced his retirement after doing such an amazing performance twice at a time we see so many other big stars try for their big break in the children's movie genre and fail. Compared to the first movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 focuses more on the aspects that the general audience really liked about Sonic 1. A bigger focus on the CG-characters, more Jim Carrey and less humans and forced jokes. Well the latter is still here but more of them land.

The pacing isn't quite up to snuff but only if you're not looking for easter eggs in every scene. Literally every scene features some things that make fans of the source material happy.

Good family movie, awesome movie if you're a Sonic fan.… Expand

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was great, even better then the first. The visual effects are outstanding especially Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. Due to critical and financial success of the first movie, Sonic the Hedgehog returns for the second instalment and this time he is not alone. Joining him in this movie are two well-known characters from the video game series, Miles Power/Tails and Knuckles the Echidna. It is definitely going to be a wild ride on this one.

Eight months after the events of the first movie, Sonic (Schwartz) have been living with Tom Wachowski (played by James Marsden) and his wife, Maddie, as their adopted son in Green Hills, Montana. During his stay with them, he became a vigilante to help stop crimes but always ended up with collateral damage. When the Wachowski have to attend the Rachel’s wedding in Hawaii, Sonic is told by them to behave while they are gone.

While being home alone, Sonic is attack by Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik (Carrey), who have return to Earth have with the help of Knuckles the Echidna (Elba), who seeks the location of Master Emerald from him. Miles Power/Tails (voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessey) shows up in time to rescue Sonic. After escaping from them, Tails ask Sonic for his help to find the Master Emerald to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands which he agrees to help. Meanwhile, Dr. Eggman and Knuckles reunite with the former’s loyal assistant, Agent Stone, to track down Sonic and Tails while the former also secretly wants the Master Emerald for his own use.

Just like the first movie, the movie is great and fun. Even much better than the previous movie. In addition, this movie shows that not only a video game movies can be done right but also maintain the course of retaining the quality instead of dropping it. Some movies have their first instalment did well but in the next instalment, it fell down in terms of quality. This movie did just that and still stick close to their original source materials with some minor deviations.

The movie also give Sonic more screen time than the previous movie while human characters’ screen time are reduced little bit except Dr. Eggman to give him more character development. Tails and Knuckles also have some decent amount of screen time. However, comparing to Sonic’s screen time, while both characters have lesser screen time but they still have enough time for character developments. Nevertheless, it is still great to see them on the big screen with Sonic.

The cast also performed very well in this movie. Idris Elba does a great job in voicing Knuckles and even portrayed the character well when it comes to comedic relief moments. Colleen O'Shaughnessey, who is the veteran voice actor of Tails and only one not recasted, still did a great job in voicing the character in the movie just like how she did in the video games and cartoons. Ben Schwartz still voiced the title character well and even better than the last time. Last but not least, Jim Carrey himself. This man still knows how to comedic roles and have not lost his charms. He is one the biggest selling points in this movie just like last time. His character design is even faithful to the source materials.

This is one of the great video game movies I recommend watching even if you are not a fan of Sonic video game series. Be sure to stay back for mid-credits scene because there is another iconic character in there which tease a future movie.… Expand

Tails is finally here and the crazy thing is that they bring back the game voice actress for Tails, Colleen O'Shaughnesse. It seems that no one can play Tails except her. On the other hand, for Knuckles, they brought in Idris Elba who does a great job in the role. The story is pretty simple and predictable but it's got a nice message and that's good for a movie aimed at kids. I also really enjoyed that a majority of the focus of this movie is on Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Eggman. The rest of the human characters are in the backseat and that is great!

Unfortunately, the sequel does have problems with the first being its runtime. This movie is 2 hours long, 20 minutes longer than the first movie, and it certainly shows. There is a moment in the movie where they decide on a pointless human subplot about a wedding and it just goes on for way too long. There is also an uptown funk moment that kind of goes on for a bit too long. Overall, this is a great sequel and it's nice that they managed to still deliver a good video game movie. I'm looking forward to what's next in the Sonic movie franchise.… Expand

I think there will be no Jim Carrey in the next episodes, even if there is Robotnik. If only they had given him a good ending.

Still, why the laser sent by hundreds of machines does not even accidentally touch, or dozens of rockets do not hit. Animated characters won't die anyway. I'm not looking for logic, but illogicality is too much bro. Yes, I'm a Robotnikist.… Expand

The writing was fun, the action was enjoyable, and the acting(particularly Jim Carrey) was(mostly) great.

There was a lot of the wedding scene without the Sonic characters, but I felt they were spread out enough to undo most of THAT feeling.

SPOILER ALERT

Robotnik's death hits a bit more when you realize not only did the character die, but Jim Carrey's career ends there as well. That added to the scene for me.

The aspects that were good about the first were better here. The main reason I decided to give this a 6/10 and not a 5/10 was Jim Carrey. Carrey once again absolutely steals the show here. His presence and acting really kept me engaged with the film. While I said the story wasn’t great, it’s definitely more competent and well structured but still not 100% formed. The voice acting is pretty good although I felt mixed on was Idris Elba’s Knuckles. Sometimes he worked and sometimes the performance was not great. The action here was pretty fun. A lot more fun than the first film. It was more colorful and interesting compared to the first where the colors felt muted and bland. The visual effects as well were pretty great most of the time. Sometimes you could see the green screen but most of the time, the visual effects looked really great. If you want a dumb fun video game movie then this is the perfect video game movie for you and if you are a Sonic fan then this is a must see.… Expand

The idea that Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails are all hanging out in the real world is really cool, but it ended up being really cliché/cheesy. (I'm mostly thinking about dialogue between Sonic and Tails, which there's a lot of.)

I will say that the scene where Maddie and Rachel infiltrate the government building was hilarious, as well as the scene where Dr. Robotnik first gets the Master Emerald.… Expand

Unlike it's predecessor Sonic movie 2 genuinely feels like a great adaptation of the Sonic games. It has it's ups and downs, but those were far-in-between. Defo worth watching, it's not only an amazing movie, but a great Sonic movie at that.

Начну с того, что кинцо для детей. Да. Но только не пойму для каких? Думаю, те кому от шести до двенадцати лет, кто такой Соник, Тейлз, Наклз и Роботник имеют довольно смутное представление. Ну если конечно ты не родился в японии.
Теперь о самом фильме. Ну это типичный сиквел. Всё, что было, только больше. Вообще все "человеческие" персонажи, в отличии от первого фильма, скучноваты. Честно говоря фильм тащит Джим Керри. За последнее время это его лучшая роль. Жаль, что он решил оставить профессию.
Ну, так как фильм детский, то никто не погибнет, даже не пострадает, ёлы палы даже царапины не получит. Все выживают в последнюю долю секунды.
Ещё в в фильме много сцен где актёры смотрят мимо "нарисованных героев" или машут сквозь них руками. Как то не доработано.
Так же авторы не обошлись без западных стереотипов. Семья теперь это: мама - негритянка, папа - белый и сынок...барабанная дробь......инопланетянин-ёжик! Ну чисто шведская семейка.
Не обошлись и без плевка в сторону Русских. В фильме они живут в сибири, которая почему то находится в горах, там всегда холодная ночь и идёт снег. В фильме эти "русские" это спившиеся имбецилы, грязные и заросшие бородами и щетиной, способные только танцевать какую то "пиванку". Спят они только на полу и говорят с грязным польским акцентом. И если людям с промытыми мозгами это кажется смешным, то мне нет.
Короче фильмец на один просмотр. Может детям зайдёт если первый фильм понравился. В прочем советовать никому не могу.
Кстати, я так и не понял, куда в конце делся Роботник?… Expand

The three scenes (That won't be discussed in detail) had my feelings go like this "I don't know about that one chief, that don't make much sense when we consider the first movie and what (Spoiler name here) did."

"I mean, it's a cute scene but we could have trimmed the fat and maybe cut this scene out, but it was used in a way that helped bond the main characters so maybe not?"

"Nice to see the side characters get a spotlight in this, but given the way the movie was going. That's a bit jarring"

Now, outside of my negative criticism. My personal view of the movie

The music was spot on with an ending song that will forever fill my heart with a warm joy when I hear it. Knuckles was made to be a naïve but intelligent figure who learns a basic character arc that we've seen before. Done in it's own "Sonic way" so to speak.

Sonic is as loveable and charming as the first movie, albeit a slightly more mature rather than some of the direct pop culture jokes done in the first movie it takes a step back to allow an actual story to be built. If we consider the first movie as the foundation for a trilogy. This movie does a wonderful job to build up Sonic for his final act

Tails, if you didn't know from the ending of the first movie or the fact the movie has his 2 tails at the end of the 2, is also in this movie. It feels a bit forced admitted and I wish more was done with Tails, but the original VA from the games coming back to voice act Tails was nice touch and it did not go unnoticed As for the human characters (Such as Donut Lord and his wife) getting "sidelined" was a great choice but still keeping them relevant was in my eyes well done. Keeping Robotnick being who he is, and I assure you gets a fantastic ending in this movie that is well worth the price of admission, makes me wish he will still act for the third movie despite his statement of being done with his career. If this is his end, he went out with a bang!

All this being said. Sonic 2 really does build up on what Sonic 1 did, and brings the action you'd expect given the skill set the cast and crew has and blends it into the combat you see. All building to a grand finale fight that leaves a cliffhanger for Sonic 3 and I truly look forward to the third movie, no longer anxious or worried about it being good if it maintains its course that this movie has set up.

Finally, with all this being said. The movie has flaws, flaws I will admit to, but in my own personal opinion outside of a pacing issue. I will continue to love and re-watch this movie until I finally get sick of it!… Expand

Another great Sonic film! By golly, I think Paramount has a hit franchise with Sega. Great to be back with these characters. Sonic growing up and meeting his best friend tails is just heart warming. To see Knuckles grow in this movie is just a delight. Jim Carry at his best when he just gives his all.

Although, if you are >20 you may find it to be too childish, which is understandable. There are 2 scenes in the movie that seem very forced, a wedding scene thatSimilar to the original Sonic games, Sonic 2 is better than the original in every way. The original was already great and nothing but improvements for the sequel. There are 2 scenes in the movie that seem very forced, a wedding scene that goes on for far too long, and a very forced, unnecessary dance sequence, that also goes on for far too long. However, this is a kids movie so it's kind of inevitable to have some forced cringe scenes. And the rest of the movie more than makes up for it, so many great references to the games, and surprisingly the anime as well, which really did it for me. The CGI is incredible, the ending is amazing, just an overall great movie, and definitely, by far the greatest video game movie so far!… Expand

This movie was good but felt a little disconnected. I mean disconnected, as I think characters from each other didn't feel too tied in as in the first movie. Big sonic fan here, I love this movie (and the last one) a lot, yes I know there were some cringeworthy scenes scattered here and there, but honestly people are getting way too worked up over them and letting it distract them from the entireBig sonic fan here, I love this movie (and the last one) a lot, yes I know there were some cringeworthy scenes scattered here and there, but honestly people are getting way too worked up over them and letting it distract them from the entire movie, which frankly is a near perfect interpretation of team sonic, and Jim Carrey playing one of the best interpretations of eggman I've ever seen. I've seen it multiple times in theaters, I rewatch it at home frequently, it has a killer soundtrack (in my opinion, I understand some people don't like newer music but that's just their preferences, not a real reason to call something bad). Overall, well worth the money I've paid to see this and I cannot wait for a 3rd movie

Also I see a lot of criticism for the overuse of predictable characters/plots/jokes, and childish humor, but to be completely fair this is a children's movie, I don't think people understand that too well… Expand

I haven't watched this one all the way yet, but the yellow fox was pretty cool. The movie could have used more of the little guy, but becouse the fox had two tails I'm doubling the score : D

This movie was a Sonic fan's dream come true. There was way more of the source material and references and things from the Sonic games than the first movie. While not excellent cinema, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 deserves more credit than most people will give it. It is a great successor over the first film and is easily my second favorite movie of this year so far. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Video game films have been almost always known for their disappointing quality, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is one of the very few exceptions. While the first Sonic film felt like your standard "Animal Buddy" film with little actual Sonic story pieces, the sequel includes a lot more from the games and improves the world quite a bit. The best parts of the film are the interactions between Sonic and Tails. They have the same fun chemistry as they do in the games. Idris Elba is fantastic as Knuckles. While I was initially hesitant about the casting, Elba proved that he understood Knuckles' character. Jim Carrey nails Robotnik once again, which is unique because Carrey almost never likes to play the same role twice. I only have a few gripes with the film. The stuff with the human characters isn't really all that interesting, but nothing awful, and I felt like Super Sonic could've been utilized a bit more. But as with the first film, there's a post credit scene. This time the film teases the debut of Shadow in Sonic The Hedgehog 3. The director of the film said that the movies won't necessarily follow the same lore established by the games. Shadow could make way for a Sonic Adventure based film which would please many Sonic fans. Overall, while nothing amazing, Sonic 2 is a solid video game adaption that uses its source material well.… Expand

A perfect sequel to the first Sonic The Hedgehog movie. Knuckles is especially well executed and Tails is fine. Feels more like a Sonic movie compared to the first. Once again, Jim Carrey adds a lot to the film's enjoyability.
