Soft and Quiet review: A Histrionic Lesson in Toxic Femininity and Trite Social Commentary

I find it so disappointing that a film with such drive and passion, which had the potential to be one of the best borderline personality disorder criminal psychopathy home invasion films I've ever seen, had that potential wasted on critical social commentary and cinematic cultural astroturfing.

They should have named the film Gas and Light. I felt like I was watching a caricature of a **** fever dream written by patronizing sanctimonious socialist activists. Like anyone would bake a swastika pie, really next level autistic.

It's ironic the film is called Soft and Quiet because the subtext of the film is saying the quiet part out loud. This is literally a diagram of how the radical left sees anyone who doesn't agree with their DEI agenda. Remember, anybody whom doesn't agree with the radical left are all just a bunch of hate filled psychotic Nazis.

They make sure to highlight that the one lady is a teacher, meaning you never know who the racist boogieman might be, and they may even be teaching your kindergarten kids. But who are the ones teaching kids gender isn't real and giving them hormone blockers and life altering surgeries and doing drag queen story time?

They dressed up radical socialist woke propaganda as the ever present danger of ethnonationalist fascism lurking around every corner of society. This film made me feel sick for all the wrong reasons. I give this film two swastika pie baking soccer mom's out of five.

It is a very obvert movie. And not a very good one if that… The themes in this movie could’ve been captured and portrayed much more subtly. If they just worked out the script a bit more, I mean, Jesus goddamn dialogue was terrible. I’m not saying it’s bad for freshman feature film I just am saying a few more revisions on the script and a bit more thought into the story and the progression of it would’ve sufficed. Expand

A film critic on RT stated that this gave her a panic attack, so I had to watch it. I went in expecting something gruesome and difficult to stomach, given the praise from critics, but overall it was a "meh" experience.

The most ironic thing about this movie is that its existence proves some of the points it attempts to condemn: that minorities in America are given special treatment and whites are demonized. I'll address this last, however.

Noting the anti-feminist remarks by the main characters, their support for the nuclear family, the on-the-nose commentary regarding conservative strawman arguments, and the fact that it is tactfully released for streaming four days before US election day, I have to call this what it is: liberal propaganda. And we all know who it's targeting: conservatives. Its liberal, misinformed director, Beth de Araújo, states this rather clearly in an interview: "The idea is traditional women, traditional family models, which is the guise for saying, ‘We want strong families,’ meaning ‘We need Aryan families, Aryan Christian families." Ah, here we go again, where every conservative idea is a dog-whistle; every ideal is some thinly veiled racism. Beth seems to be ignoring conservative minorities that have traditional values when making statements like these. Maybe if you're the one that keeps hearing the dog whistle, you are the dog.

The film succeeds in maintaining interest for at least the first 45 minutes, though. Its single-shot feel is highly effective until its characters begin acting just completely stupid in every action. So, for the acting and presentation I'll give the movie a few points and will rate it on the merit of filmmaking, not for its message.

To address the irony of this movie, let's imagine instead a movie of black supremacist commies committing acts of violence against asians. Something that happens statistically at higher rates and is therefore more realistic - but that would be racist, wouldn't it? You couldn't release a movie like that four days before US midterms election and you know it. So instead you affirm the beliefs of white conservatives: that we are condemned and viewed as racist just for existing. Great.

If you're a liberal that is afraid of white people, hate yourself, and hate whites, you will love this movie. It will be "real" and "scary" to you. But the strong points of the movie (acting/pacing) don't offset the propaganda at play.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 2022 thriller movie. In the movie, a group of women from various professions hold a nationalist-themed meeting among themselves. Then they break up the meeting and the 4 of them decide to go to someone's house and drink wine. One of them is the owner of the market. When they come to the market to buy wine, two immigrant women come as customers. They humiliate women. Immigrant women also swear at them when they leave. In these, they all want to go to the immigrants' house before them and make jokes, and they miss the point.

An extremely frustrating movie. At the same time, it reveals what kind of disease fanaticism is.

The movie has sexual implications but no nudity.
