The slow in the title is the perfect adjective for this arty western about a love struck boy and a bounty hunter who become companions whilst searching for the same girl, although for entirely different reasons. The film’s destination,The slow in the title is the perfect adjective for this arty western about a love struck boy and a bounty hunter who become companions whilst searching for the same girl, although for entirely different reasons. The film’s destination, however, becomes almost irrelevant as the lack of any real dramatic incident leaves one completely indifferent to where events are heading.
Despite a manageable running time this journey becomes something of an endurance test that even the talents of Michael Fassbender and Ben Mendelsohn can do nothing to enliven. What little back story there is doesn’t answer questions like why the girl is an outlaw; how the boy knew how to find her, and how he got from Scotland to America considering his naiveté and lack of funds. A few moments do manage to stir one to attention and the beautiful New Zealand locations and a haunting score provide some compensation. Also, as the boy, Kodi Smit-McPhee gives a likeable and sympathetic performance. Unfortunately, though, these positives aside the film just isn’t either different enough or interesting enough to be memorable.… Expand

C’est une production néo-zélandaise qui a produit en 2014 ce sous-produit et en l’occurrence ce pseudo-western à deux balles dans lequel s’est égaré le sympathique Fassbender pour la gamelle (les temps sont durs !). Mais ce n’est pas lui le « héros », c’est un jeune benêt qui s’en charge (incarné par un inconnu au bataillon) et a fortiori un jeune con et en même temps une quiche ou une tache (on ne sait plus trop mais c’est un champion !).

ça ne dure apparemment qu’une heure vingt et pourtant ça se traîne comme une limace qui s’est endormie sur le bord de la route après une bonne cuite au bistrot ; tout ici pue le téléfilm en solde à deux dollars avec moult clichés à la clé ! Bref, dire que ça sonne creux, dire que c’est bidon de A à Z, c’est rester encore bien en dessous de la vérité…

En vérité, je vous le dis, tout le monde joue tellement mal là-dedans, y compris Fassbender, tout est si raplaplat et si convenu (et attendu) qu’on s’attendait certes à une daube mais à ce point quand même, ça troue le cul ! un « bon » western pour roupiller devant la télé donc mais pas plus… parce que sinon, c’est que du temps perdu, on l’a dans le cul ! (pour la rime… riche).… Expand
