Sadly doesn't good as Casino Royale - Decent, watchable, bearable... these words was floating in my mind while watching to the end.

Filmaço, uma super produção assim como todos os filmes da franquia, o ponto negativo é que o filme é longo demais!

It should be held up highly to other films like Pulp Fiction, as it is a movie that was able to create something so monumental from a genre that had seemed to be completely rinsed of ideas. If any spy movie from the past century is revered in the coming decades, this movie should be it. Quite the anomaly considering the time it came out was all about sell-out movies like Pacific Rim and even its prequel, Quantum of Solace (which is definitely a dud), but the tone of the movie was able to encapsulate an intense mood so foreign to Western media that watching it is definitely like breathing in fresh, musky, rainy English air after seeing it's sequels (which, like Quantum of Solace, miss the mark). The stand-out roles aren't even Daniel Craig (although he is great), but the supporting cast like Judi Dench, Javier Bardem and Ben Wishaw that make the movie so alive and gripping. 10/10 Can't see James Bond ever returning to such a high-point, when every good thing a future 007 film could do was done here. It's definitely one of the best Bond films. The characters are really well fleshed out, the action is practical and really well shot, as is the entire film (Roger Deakins my goodness), and a riveting story about Bond getting old and still trying to make a living as an agent in the field. I think Skyfall is peak sexy and badass Daniel Craig and my god he is glorious as Bond in this film. Judi Dench's M, Ben Whishaw's Q, Naomie Harris' Moneypenny, Ralph Fiennes' Malory, and the absolute standout Javier Bardem as the deliriously depraved Silva are all interesting when they are on screen. This is a shoutout to a brilliant script by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, John Logan who penned a masterful character study for all of these characters all interwoven into the central plot. The opening Istanbul setpiece is one of the best openings in an action film you can really ask for. The Tennyson sequence is cinematic masterpiece and Thomas Newman's score in this sequence in particular is nothing short of exemplary. The plot about Bond getting old, him really not wanting to admit it but still being such a raw, manly MI6 agent is really what makes this Bond so attractive. No matter how many times I watch it, Skyfall is just simply spectacular. Expand

What a perfect movie to celibate the 50th anniversary of James Bond 007 as it is easily one of the best Bond movies, has a great plot, characters, and villain, and is easily Daniel Craig's best performance as 007.

There are various landscape shots of London and other countries which are quite stunning and there are many quite slick camera angles used which help make this really quite an engrossing movie. Given its running time of just over or around the two hour and twenty minute mark, its quite a feat to keep viewers entertained and intrigued throughout, without getting bored and fidgety but I found that I had my eyes glued to the screen for certainly the majority of the time, which, for me, is good going lol.

As I say, I found it to be very atmospheric, particularly with the asian casino scenes and in scenes by the asian waterfront (strong colours used, high intense colours seem to be something Sony are into judging by their latest camera advert - its clear Sony make or heavily fund the picture given the numerous product placements for Sony items seen throughout, such as various Vaio laptops - I've noticed this in previous Bond movies) and also notedly during the long battle scenes in Scotland, where the color was drained down to a mere grey/blue. Plus of course it wouldn't be a Bond movie without the long, artsy animated or cartoon-esque opening titles, which are quite psychodelic and have a spooky theme which relates to what we witness at the end of the first scene. I wouldn't say it came across as especially low budget, though it is a bit 'tales of the unexpected'-esque but if you've seen previous Bond movies then you likely know what to expect (which is a bit of a pun, I suppose(!)).

As is expected from a James Bond film, it features some pretty slick dialogue, some funny and some poignant and also various good fight scenes (gun and hand on hand, I believe). I had a very quick glance at reviews of the movie before I left to see it and I thought I'd read that there weren't much in the way of car chase scenes but that turned out to not be the case - ok maybe in terms of conventional car chase scenes there aren't many but at the start there's a long scene which involves chasing a suspect including different forms of public transport (I'm trying not to give away too much information in the way of spoilers). I think this is how most Bond movies start? but it was quite gripping and my concerns about this movie lacking possibly some of the better elements of previous Bond movies seemed to fade away. Having said that, as I eluded to earlier I wouldn't say this is a perfect movie in terms of the Bond franchise - for me the downsides include a bit of predictability in terms of locations and character types (which ok perhaps we're expected to take as a given and some things I do expect to see and would be sad if I didn't but one or two token scenes such as parts of the world and types of people involved, just seemed a bit too obvious, a little old hat? I don't know, maybe im a little harsh but I remember thinking that and I don't always criticise movies much, so having thought of it I wanted to add it to my review). The other negative for me, I felt, were a couple of plot developments I found especially hard to believe - don't get me wrong, I know that these movies aren't meant to be taken too seriously (what agent could possibly not have aged much and still be on active duty some 40 or 50 years after the first movie came out, apart from anything else?) but I felt it was perhaps a bit like the Bourne movie(s) in one or two parts where I could feel myself thinking that seems very unlikely - its hard to explain more without potentially spoiling the story, so I'll leave that there but ultimately this is a movie to thrill and entertain and as far as that goes, it does its job pretty well. Also in its defense, as well as some parts being a little especially unbelievable, its also true to say that the good guys don't all come off unscathed (like in some American movies you sometimes see and think if that were real, they'd have never walked away from there - they wish(!)).

Also if I were to compare it to the previous Bond films starring Daniel Craig, I think its better than Casino Royale, which seemed to slump for me mid way through if I remember right, this one kept my attention more and seemed a bit more solid, its probably roughly on a par with Casino Royale, although all Bond films feature there own quirks and other peoples opinions may differ on this but thats my thought anyway.

This is definitely worth seeing on the big screen ie at a cinema, like I did. Some films can't fully be done justice (as it were) by watching it on a large TV say 32" or so, I think alot of the appeal of this movie, the fact it managed to keep me engrossed and seemed visually stunning, was definitely aided by being shown on a large cinema screen.

Having watched 25 Bonds from Dr.No to Spectre, I place Skyfall at 4/25.

Now to be clear, I'm rating it as 4th as a Bond movie, because I have certain expectations from a Bond movie, which Skyfall did not really want/try to satisfy. If I rate Skyfall simply as a "movie", it is the best movie in all of James Bond. It's simply the greatest movie they made.
The emotional weight, the characters difficult decisions, the visuals, the direction, the music (Adele!), the action, everything is just brilliant. They even brought back some of the old style Bond madness, not necessarily its best parts, but it was still a lot of fun to see.

Skyfall is simply an excellent, emotionally striking movie, with so many gorgeous scenes and moments it needs to be seen.

The only reasons it's not a 10/10 are:
- the movie starts with a lengthy sequence that ultimately brings nothing to the plot (and lasts 25 whole minutes)
- the villain isn't as great as some say, I found him good rather than great
- the classic Bond silliness does come and is great, but it also comes around and is just silly, especially the ending battle where really, there's no reason at all for it to happen this way

These minor points shouldn't push anyone away from watching Skyfall, which may not be the greatest "Bond movie" but is the greatest movie the Bond franchise ever produced. Sam Mendes and Richard Deakins at directing and photography particularly deserve a special mention, but Judi Dench, Daniel Craig, Naomie Harris, all deserve mentions too. Skyfall is simply a top tier movie. If I could give it 9.5/10, I would.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This film blew me away the first time I saw it. The cinematography makes this movie one of the most visually appealing Bond movies ever! Bond's relationship with M is what truly makes this film move forward, and the film took a big risk by killing off M, and it worked. The villain, Silva, is another example of a great villain who can be intimidating without being physically threatening. The film strays away from spy and more into generic action in the last third, but besides that, the action scenes and presentation make for a truly spectacular film, one that arguably surpasses the greatness of Casino Royale. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Numerous Plot holes, contrivances, poor storytelling, character logic&motivation;

1. The stolen agent list macguffin; Made famous in M:I then overused in films&TV shows; CharliesAngels2 etc - halfway through the film they just forgot about it

2. Hacking magic! Hacking can be done well; goldeneye,swordfish,diehard4...Not just an easy contrived plot device. Can we have a proper explanation &the rules&limitations of Silva's hacking ability in this fiction? For all I know Silva can make satellites fall on people.

3. The irony of the 'can Bond operate in an internet world' theme...he failed twice and got M killed...so he can't?

4. How out of place the above theme is; Bond is mature but always current. His a walking encyclopedia (watch the start of any Connery/Moore film). In the last 2 films he was using advanced mobile phone tracking systems...adding hacking does not suddenly make Bond take on the 'modern' age. Are economics or funding civilwars outdated?

There was hacking&computers in 1995's Goldeneye..all of a sudden, NOW, there are no more shadows? Did MI6 stop evolving in the late eighties?

5.They have a meeting to discuss MI6? This was relevant in Batman, a vigilante was trying to inspire people- It was intertwined in the narrative&theme. Skyfall enquiry was just Sam Mendes ripping off Batman

6. Silva's planned capture; Another overused device that was coincidently in Batman. So what did Silva achieve? A conversation with M? When this is revealed shouldn't we look back and have everything make sense? But, NO, I was left wondering why they tried to kill Bond twice in China.

7. Why was a hacker in a cell controlled by a computer? Why is Q so stupid he plugged in the laptop to the building? Why was the trap door on the inside of the first glass door? why was there a trap door? How did Silva evade an armed MI6 guard 20 meters from his cell?

8. Super calculating (hack crazy)Silva's plan at the end was a firefight? With a backup plan of another firefight?

9. So they figured out Silva was dressed as a cop and no-one told anyone? The irony of M defending herself (reading a poem) knowing her own ex agent was about to shoot up the place was lost on critics&writers alike.

10. Could Bond not take a Sim free phone or'radio' &call backup when Silva arrived at the end? Instead they had their Home Alone moment- even Macaulay Culkin eventually called the police

11. Silva is supposed to mirror Bond. But compare Bond's 'betrayal' to Silva being handed over for torture... Some forced connection is made considering they never met before. Silva tells a story of 2rats so we know what we are supposed to think.

12. Bond's betrayal is M ordering Naomi to take a risky shot. Bond later tell's M he heard the order... why didn't he get out the way then? he just kept fighting like an idiot. &did Naomi only have 1 bullet?

13.You can't make Bond survive 2 gun shots and a fall like that. His already an established character. The Punisher&Bourne are special BECAUSE they survive. It can't happen to them again mid film/ mid franchise..

14. Bond follows an assassin&lets him kill innocent people! How is this in his character?! The previous 2 films already rebooted Bond to show WHY he doesn't let innocents die.

15. Naomi is a forced character..appearing randomly to remind us she still exists so we can think it's 'clever' when she becomes Moneypenny. Money penny gets demoted from field agent to secretary?!! not even analyst. If she is that hopeless why is she on the most important mission ever? I think Sam Mendes hates women.

16. Bond doesn't even blink when the girl he just bedded a few hours ago gets shot in cold blood. He identifies Severine as being sex trafficked&abused- He then just jumps in her shower. I had little problem with Bond tricking a woman into bed in live and let die- but the sky-fall scene should land him in the S-offenders list.

17.They traced the shrapnel in Bond's chest to a 'special'bullet that only 3 people use? His a 'ghost'...but we have his full flight manifesto. This is how they advanced the plot? wait a minute....didn't that bad guy shoot up half of turkey..? A contrivance& a plot hole in one plot device, that takes some doing.

18. One minute he can't shoot...10 seconds later he shoots everyone in a 360 arc? so what happened? oh we are just abandoning that theme mid- se..

The script makes no sense, the themes are inappropriate, Bond's character&decision making has been altered &they have confused mature with dinosaur. Die another Day was almost a Bond parody, but this one is simply a mess,&a betrayal of Bond.

Shame on critics too impatient to appreciate QoS for not spoon feeding them everything & praising sky-fall because of poorly scattered themes& metaphors on a plot that makes no sense, just because it makes them feel clever

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Skyfall is one of the best bond films yet. There’s not shortage of great chase scenes and shootouts. I know lots of people have problems with Silva’s escape, but I thought it was exciting and never failed to disappoint. Then that leads to the court room shootout which is just a brilliant scene. I personally love how this film goes further into M’s past and doesn’t just focus on Bond. The whole entire theme about old vs new worked and was great. Seeing bond actually losing a step in the first act was great. Then of course there’s the great third act where it takes Bond and M to Skyfall. I love all of it, except the fact the M and Kincade left there stupid lamp on. I personally think this was a phenomenal movie and would most definitely recommend it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Watching "Skyfall" again last night I’m left with the same horrible taste in my mouth like first time around, stemming from the disgusting scene in which the Chinese sex slave Bond girl is murdered by the villain while Bond callously quips "what a waste of good scotch". Despite being awfully bad storytelling in itself (Bonds kills all the goons and captures the villain within 30 seconds after the murder, meaning he could have easily prevented it), how is such a scene a thing in the 21st century, and why wasn't that already a bigger controversy in 2012? It might be somewhat amusing re-watching Sean Connery dragging a masseuse against her protest into the shower as an (albeit still painful) artefact of his time. But how are we allowing a supposedly modern Bond be imagined the way Skyfall does? This scene singlehandedly ruined the movie for me. I give a point for the great visuals, but that’s it. Expand

Mendes has a ground breaking method and chilling ideology to make them sweat, switching into old style beat, gadgets are tagged out and drama in the ring.

Skyfall

Mendes is the game changer. He sees what a rich character like such deserves. And creating an ugly yet polished world, offering a palpable environment for Bond to survive, Sam Mendes, the director keeps the job, a job. Despite of being the most personal and emotionally driven content, the mano-y-mano perspective let's you fill in on their shoes giving you the up close 3d experience with three dimensional characters which none of these hokum comic books extravaganza can give. This is also probably the first complete script of James Bond, in the sense that the linearity is easily followed and synced with crisp relevant action.

The Bond girl Berenice Marlohe leaves a resonant message in her brief appearance, also since this is the only Bond girl with almost no flirt talk, her fear makes her hand and voice shake and the film takes a steady U turn. This is where we catch up with Javier Bardem, who is celebrated with no care in the world by the writers, where you can see them bending the rules and even the script to make sure, he comes off as a magnetic righteous leader.

And if he is poised in every step of his plan, M, played by Judi Dench, makes him rubble every time, he encounters her and this cat and mouse chase is spiced with a love track that you not only don't see it coming, but also practically go wolfish to have some more. And amidst all the new recruits to the old employees striking horn for some noble agenda, Daniel Craig, gets overshadowed which too is foliated nicely by Mendes making him the empathetic character, just like Ryan Gosling in Blade Runner 2049 or even Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry to some degree. The ultimate question is, Is Skyfall the best in Bond collection? Yes.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. i find it hard to watch the entire thing as the climax is boring as hell and cheap seeming. I do like however the fact that Bardems character doesn't like taking orders from old women which i can relate to big time. I feel like they should have somehow shown bond contemplating living a normal life before coming back. The poetry scene is embarrassing and retarded. I like the way they beefed up the Q character but it seems as though they failed to follow up on it. The adele song is pretty bad ofcourse. the name Money Penny is so stupid that bringing back the character and name only with a black face is almost racist the way they were obviously trying so hard to not be racist. the idea of the fight in the casino is just preposterous seeing how they wanted him to come along for the boat ride. a good thing they did was to show how Ms choice for money penny to take the shot is clearly a thing that has caught up to her from the past and she catches flak. s problem is that i feel like Bardem's character would have way more henchmen and what the hell ever happened to having a crazy lead henchmen like odd job and jaws? one last thing is that it makes little sense that you would try to hit someone with a train by derailing it. also the scorpion bar scene would have just been cooler without the scorpion.. Wilson, it has script by Robert Wade, Neal Purvis and John Logan. This is the twenty-third film in the franchise and the third in the new era of James Bond, embodied by the participation of Daniel Craig as 007. It inherits the central cast of the previous films, which joins Ralph Fiennes, in the role of Gareth Mallory, Naomie Harris, in the role of Eve Moneypenny, Bérénice Marlohe in the role of bond- girl Severine and Albert Finney in the role of Kincade. This film marks the end of Judi Dench in the role of M (although she appeared on video in the movie "Spectre"), and the resurgence of the character Q through the talent of Ben Whishaw. The role of the villain was handed to Javier Bardem.

In this film, James Bond will protect the MI6, threatened by a huge leak that compromised the lives of several agents in the field, but he quickly finds that the responsible is pursuing directly M, and that they have scores to settle related to her past.

This is one of the most impressive Bond films since the sixties. Rotated and released during the celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of the franchise, it couldn't avoid the good memories, some of which have an important role in the plot, as happened to the "old" Aston Martin DB5 that Bond used in several films since "Goldfinger". Daniel Craig was excellent, giving life to a mature agent, unable to field missions under normal conditions, despite his perseverance and willpower. And if Judi Dench showed, in other films, that she is a tough and demanding boss, she showed now as she was also careful with her agents and her work. It's interesting and moving to see the way that she and Bond gradually collaborated, despite his arrogance and her criticism. Ben Whishaw surprised in the role of Q, giving his character a breath of fresh air and a much more realistic approach, appropriate to the age of technology. The villain, however, exceeded expectations. Bardem surpassed himself, and all he had shown in previous works. He could truly give life to his spiteful, vindictive and almost effeminate character. From here, the sky is the limit for this actor and the doors are open for any project he chooses. Interestingly, this is one of the few Bond movies where bond-girls lose their usual relevance, but it wasn't negative. By seeing the movie we will not miss them. The opening sequence is, in my opinion, very impressive and one of the best in all the franchise. It's accompanied by the song "Skyfall", composed and sung by Adele, one of the best British singers of today. With this song, she got an Oscar and one of her biggest hits to date.

For a filmmaker known for art films such as American Beauty and Road to Perdition, Sam Mendes directs his first full-blown action picture like a seasoned pro.

Marking the 50th anniversary of the characters cinematic debut, Skyfall takes on a much more contemplative approach to it’s story by examining the question of what place does a character like Bond have in the modern era. It’s a question that was brought up before in Goldeneye but personally, I feel this movie’s execution of that theme was much more satisfying.

From the great opening motor bike chase on the rooftops of Istanbul followed by the visually arresting title sequence, I knew sitting in the theater that I was in for something special.

Everything about this movie was lighting captured in a bottle. It’s by far the most gorgeous-looking of the Bond films, there is sincere thematic depth, and the acting is spot on with Judi Dench giving her best performance as M.

Javier Bardem’s turn as the devious Raoul Silva is literally one of the best villains in cinematic history.

Not much more to say except….it is the crowning jewel that perfectly encapsulates everything I love about this franchise.

For me this was a hard choice, because Daniel Craig seems as though he was born to play James Bond. All the films he's done have been fantastic, but I can see why Skyfall won. This film stands out for many reasons, most importantly it gives us a rare look into the childhood of James Bond and for the rarest of moments we see Bond scared and on the edge of possibly giving up, but you know how the story ends, he's James Bond. If you missed Skyfall, the film is like many other stories, where an old enemy reappears, but in this case, the enemy isn't looking for world domination, he's looking for revenge against his former employers, the British Government and in particular the Double 0 program. Bond films are often times so similar that we tend to rate them based on the villain and the song, well, the song doesn't get better than the gem produced by Adele, but what about Javier Bardem? He is an Academy Award winner and for good cause, this dude was one of the scarier Bond villains to come around in a long time. The others in the Craig Bond movies were some pretty bad guys, who had done some horrible things, but no one was what anyone would call truly scary, not like the villains used to be. Bardem had that special something though, that not only made him a bad guy, but that kind of bad guy that can make audiences cringe. The Bottom Line, Skyfall wasn't my pick, but it was a close second, as this was probably the most personal and emotional Bond film perhaps in the entire series. Daniel Craig is still very much at his best, Javier Bardem is a villain who will always rank in the top ten, and who better to sing a bond theme than Adele. Wheather or not you picked Skyfall, there is no question that it is one of those Bond films that won't ever be forgotten. Expand

Marking the 50th anniversary of the James Bond franchise, Skyfall delivers well. The plot basically stands on its own without much necessary backstory or foreknowledge. In fact, Skyfall was actually the first 007 movie I saw. For those experienced with James Bond, the unconventionality of Skyfall is its best feature. Scenes feature fascinating visuals while we scratch our heads trying to uncover the plot. For example, Skyfall depicts a night scene in Shanghai at one point. Bond fights an assassin with beautiful jellyfish graphics floating in the background. As the two brawl, we have no idea who is who because of their nearly identical silhouettes. A handful of other interesting artistic subtleties such as this appear later. This is actually fairly typical of a Bond movie, but seems to be particularly well-done in this one. Skyfall's other strong points include the villain and Bond's critical relationship with M. Prepare to be both shaken and stirred! Expand

Six years ago in Casino Royale, Daniel Craig's first outing as Bond, we learned that 007 owes his perpetual bachelor status to the loss of true love Eva Green. Skyfall, Craig's third Bond film, again aims to flesh out the backstory of the spy, with the globe-trotting terrorist hunt this time literally revisiting the site of the childhood trauma that apparently pushed Bond to seek out that license to kill through which he has funneled a love of country bordering on psychosis. Also unearthed: the deep-seated parental issues that have caused him to cling to MI6 adviser M (Judi Dench).

This time around, the signature, spectacular pre-credits chase sequence atop a moving train ends with Bond in the crosshairs of a fellow agent played by Naomie Harris. (Despite the euphemism-heavy workplace seduction that develops with Bond, her character's throwback-punchline name isn't revealed until the final scenes.) She shoots and misses; the bad guy she aimed to kill escapes carrying a digital drive holding the names of dozens of undercover NATO agents, while Bond falls off a bridge and goes missing. Back in London, M works on Bond's obituary while the spy himself takes advantage of his presumed death to cash in some R&R on a tropical island, catching up on his drinking and **** Then MI6 headquarters is bombed, a simultaneous cyber attack reveals that the stolen drive has fallen into the worst hands possible, and Bond reports for duty, toting a piece of shrapnel/evidence in his pec that gives MI6 a head start on smoking out the enemy.

Bopping from Shanghai to Macao, Bond gets up to the usual daring escapes and zipless nightcaps, but the peak of the movie is his tête-à-tête confrontation with Silva (Javier Bardem), a former disciple of M turned killer hacker who, we learn, went rogue after bad **** went down during the Hong Kong handover. A catty dandy whose own evil owes to grievous PTSD, Silva taunts Bond about the "unresolved childhood trauma" that turned him into 007 material. In Skyfall, even the Bond villain is obsessively determinist.

The greatest gift director Sam Mendes—working with cinematographer Roger Deakins—brings to the material is staging and imagery that artfully amplify the film's ideas about the world in which all of this is happening. And there are ideas, despite the fetishism and improbability native to the franchise. Bond's world is undeniably modeled after a real one engaged in debates about transparency and obfuscation, in which established institutions find themselves crippled (and, perhaps worse, rendered foolish) by stateless entities who show their power through violent interruptions of both the physical and virtual worlds. A bureaucrat played by Ralph Fiennes, trying to drag MI6 kicking and screaming into the age of Anonymous, contends that the agency "can't keep working in the shadows—there are no shadows." It's a POV contested by the film's most visually stunning action scene, a relatively simple duel in a darkened Shanghai skyscraper, with Bond and the bad guy silhouetted against the neon lights and building-enveloping video billboards outside. The shadows might have changed shape, location, and method of generation, but the conflicts seem to be as binary as they've ever been.

Skyfall's most pressing project is to prove that Bond, a thoroughly 20th-century invention, can function in the new media landscape, on-screen and off. From the undisguised camp of the Silva/Bond confrontation to the nods to past 007 films and rhetoric endorsing "the old methods," the freshest thing about Skyfall is its embrace of its own old-fashioned values. It's a movie in which the villain's secret weapon is a server farm, in which the high-tech gizmos proffered by the new, hipster Q (Ben Whishaw) are quickly discarded for old-school tools. In the body of 43-year-old, visibly graying Craig, Bond's advancing age is played as both an obstacle to surmount and a virtue. Between the action sequences, the pleasure lies in observing impeccably dressed Brits exchanging barbed witticisms—making it, basically, Downton Abbey with cyber crime and shower sex.

But as much as it's open about its paranoia of the new, Skyfall's fatal misstep is its slavish hewing to event-movie trends. Like this summer's Spider-Man, Batman, and Avengers movies, Skyfall seems to exist primarily to set up the events of subsequent films. At nearly two and a half hours long, it's the September issue of Bond movies, bloated with story to fill out the spaces between product placements, with much of that story lardy psychological exposition.

Daniel Craig gives an assured performance as James Bond, Judi Dench is fantastic as usual as M, Ralph Fiennes is great, and Javier Bardem is thoroughly evil. Even more, the villain is well-crafted and ties nicely into Bond's train of thought at the time. The direction from Sam Mendes is typically great and adds an artistic flair to the giant spy franchise. The film also sports some absolutely breathtaking cinematography, especially in the final fight scene (which is also very well choreographed). Roger Deakins is an absolute legend and it shows here with the color scheme, lighting, and general shot composition. The film is certainly the best Craig Bond film and also happens to be one of the more compelling and well made spy films I have seen in a long while. Finally, the music here is great, especially Adele's "Skyfall", which I already knew was great, but was that much better in the film. Overall, Skyfall is not perfect and has some faults, but it is incredibly well put together and a thoroughly entertaining affair. Expand

When James Bond dashed into Buckingham Palace in July to pick up Queen Elizabeth so they could parachute into the Olympic opening ceremony, it was tough to picture what he could do for an encore. Zip line into the next European summit meetingWhen James Bond dashed into Buckingham Palace in July to pick up Queen Elizabeth so they could parachute into the Olympic opening ceremony, it was tough to picture what he could do for an encore. Zip line into the next European summit meeting with Angela Merkel tucked under his arm? Wrestle nude on the frozen banks of the Volga with Vladimir Putin? Turning Britain’s royal octogenarian into a Bond girl was a stroke of cross-marketing genius that profited queen and country both, while also encapsulating the appeal of the 007 brand in the age of aerial drones.

It’s the human factor, to borrow somewhat perversely a phrase from Graham Greene, who worked for Britain’s foreign intelligence agency MI6. In his novel “The Human Factor,” about a double agent, Greene sought, he said, to portray the British secret service unromantically, with “men going daily to their office to earn their pensions.” Bond is wearing a silver-gray suit when he powers into “Skyfall,” the latest 007 escapade, but it isn’t cut for office work. The suit is seductively tight, for starters, and moves like a second skin when Daniel Craig in his third stint as Bond races through an atavistic opener that — with bullets buzzing and M (Judi Dench) whispering orders in his ear — puts him back on mortal, yet recognizably Bondian, ground.

And just in time too, given that he looked as if he were on the Bataan Death March in his last film, “Quantum of Solace.” Directed by a surprisingly well-equipped Sam Mendes, “Skyfall” is, in every way, a superior follow-up to “Casino Royale,” the 2006 reboot that introduced Mr. Craig as Bond. “Skyfall” even plays like something of a franchise rethink, partly because it brings in new faces and implies that Bond, like Jason Bourne, needed to be reborn. The tone is again playful and the stakes feel serious if not punishingly so. This is a Bond who, after vaulting into a moving train car, pauses to adjust a shirt cuff, a gesture that eases the scene’s momentum without putting the brakes on it.

That “Skyfall” includes a sequence on a train — a passenger one, no less — suggests that this may be very much like your granddaddy’s Bond, even without the bikinied backdrop. From the initial sequence, one of those characteristic supersize set pieces that precede the opening credits, Mr. Mendes shows that he’s having his fun with 007. The opening doesn’t just take place in Turkey, one of those putatively exotic locales adorned with woven carpets and dark-complexioned extras, it also includes smoothly choreographed mayhem in both a crowded bazaar and outdoor market. There, amid these familiar action-cinema signposts, Bond and another agency operative, the suitably named Eve (Naomie Harris), chase down a baddie as locals and oranges scatter.

Bondologists may linger over that Turkey location. Globe tripping has always been as crucial to the movies as groovy gadgets: it’s an elegant way to map the geopolitical coordinates while providing armchair adventure for the rest of us. Here, though, you have to wonder if Mr. Mendes and the writers Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan have folded some 007 arcana into the mix. Turkey plays a major role in the second, often most critically celebrated Bond film, “From Russia With Love,” which, like this one, includes a lethal fight on a train, a formidable blond male adversary and an island headquarters. But whether the filmmakers want to intimate that this is the rightful follow-up to the rebooted Bond is less interesting than this type of longitudinal thinking the movies inspire.

Mr. Mendes, a British film and theater director whose dubious screen achievements include embalming the American dream in “Revolutionary Road,” gets Bond just right in a story that first turns on a domestic threat and then on a personal one. Mr. Mendes grasps the spy’s existential center, as typified by the ritualistic mano a mano grappling that almost every action movie now deploys to signal that, when push comes to punch, the hero can still kill with his bare hands. There’s brutal death here, but there’s also a pervading sense of mortality that makes the falling bodies register a little longer than they sometimes do in a Bond movie. As a director of films like “American Beauty” and “Away We Go” Mr. Mendes has indulged in a noxious blend of self-seriousness and condescension. There’s none of that here.

Instead he honors the contract that the Bond series made with its fans long ago and delivers the customary chases, pretty women and silky villainy along with the little and big bangs. Whether Mr. Mendes is deploying an explosion or a delectable detail, he retains a crucially human scale and intimacy, largely by foregrounding the performers. To that end, while “Skyfall” takes off with shock-and-awe blockbuster dazzle, it’s opulent rather than outlandish and insistently, progressively low-key, despite an Orientalist fantasy with dragons and dragon ladies.

Not the best Bond film, but then again I am not a big James Bond fan. That being said, Skyfall is up there when it comes to Bond films. Sky fall is one of the best films of 2012

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Skyfall gets an above average rating for me.
It's major positives are the technical direction and the presentation. Director Sam Mendes creates many visually interesting shots in this movie. He is great at creating vibrant backdrops to the scenes like in one fight by a window where a times square style light up billboard creates a soft blue backdrop to the scene, or at the end of the film where they are fighting in the bright glow of a fire. The action in this movie is superb and the choreography feels real and thrilling. However once we get past the admittedly amazing presentation the movie starts to fall apart.
A major sub-plot of the movie is that Bond is falling apart after years of service and fails all the tests M16 gives to him. However this really doesn't go anywhere as the only time he every shows any weakness is when he misses a shot to hit a glass off of the top of the head of a hostage. Seriously. Both M and the main villain Silva talk about Bond's failings but 007 still effortlessly disposes of any opponent he goes after most of the time. The movie tries to give other characterization too but it comes off as flat and uninteresting and serves to make Bond look worse as a character (which Hint: he didn't really have a character beforehand). Look Bind is a cool secret agent that acts all high and mighty and beats people up and has a license to kill. He is not some complicated character so don't try to halfheartedly make him one.
Another major character problem is that the main villain Raoul Silva is not an intimidating villain. Whenever I was watching him be on screen it shattered my suspension of disbelief because he just screamed "WE SCREENWRITERS ARE TRYING TO MAKE A COOL VILLAIN BUT DON'T KNOW HOW!" The movie does so many things to make Silva appear intimidating and evil but it comes off as shallow and boring. And also he is the cause of some of the stupidest plot holes this side of being able to blow up AT-ATs with blasters.
Okay so the plot of the movie doesn't really hold up. In the opening sequence Bond is shot and is presumed dead in a mission but he just appears in a Latin American country later on. This isn't really explained and doesn't make any sense. Like, he was shot in the middle east I think how'd he get to south america? But whatever he comes back to London after MI6 is hacked and their building explodes. Bond goes to track the agent down, kills him, meets his associate who leads him to Silva. Bond captures Silva and brings him back to the MI6's secret underground back-up base. Then the stupidest thing ever happens. It's revealed that Silva's plan was to be captured and then escape. Which is so contrived because it's obvious they';re just copying dark knight and Silva has no reason t want to go to MI6 and then escape. Like, there is no reason to go to the HQ other than it's cool for the plot. Also, the escape plan hinges on the fact that Q will connect silva's computer to the MI6 base's computers. Which is dumb. If you're going through a hacker's computer why would you plug it in to your network? What if he just had a virus that would have wrecked the computers? Anyway Silva escapes through a train maintenance tunnel and Bond catches up but Silva manages to escape because he has a bomb planted that leads a train to fall on top of Bond. Which is stupid! How'd he know that he would be caught up to in that particular place. And if he did it just to put a wall between him anyone behind him, why didn't he blow it directly after he passed the bomb? It's another stupid plot contrivance. Then SIlva manages to invade a government hearing with just 3 guys against dozens of armed guards and tries to kill M. Luckily Bond saves the day and SIlva has to run away. The Bond takes M to his childhood mansion in Scottland. Also they took the crazy machine gun ejector seat car. There they fortify the house with only 2 hunting rifles and some TNT. With this they successfully defend themselves against a dozen of Silva's men with assault rifles. HOW?!?! And why is the groundskeeper their so good at killing trained mercenaries? It's all so CONTRIVED!! I did like it though when the groundskeeper killed a guy and aid "welcome to Scotland." Then a helicopter crashes into the house and, wait. Did i tell you? They had a helicopter with a Gatling gun and couldn't take out two old people and one agent that supposedly failed all the tests. Then Bond kills everyone but Silva, and M runs away with the groundskeeper to an old church that is apparently just 5 minutes away, I guess. Silva comes in and then puts a gun in M's hands and forces it to her head and then puts his head next to M's so that if M pulls the trigger she'll kill them both. WTF?! First off, why did he give M the ability to pull the trigger, secondly why is he suicidal all of a sudden. But then Bond kills him but M dies of a gun wound anyway.

While Skyfall has great action and presentation the plot is horrible and paces very slowly. 6/10

This is Bond like you've never seen him, almost Freudian in his vulnerability. And a dynamite Daniel Craig, never better in the role, nails Bond's ferocity and feeling. Mortality lurks in the shadows as Craig digs deep into Bond's past. Citizen Kane had his Rosebud. Bond has his Skyfall. What is it? I'll never tell. Don't expect hints in Adele's beauty of a title song. Even Javier Bardem's dangerously thrilling baddie, Silva, has real-world issues. Ben Whishaw is wily fun as a young Q with his own take on gadgets. And Judi Dench, magisterial and magnificent as M, Bond's boss, lets go with the emotional heat she withheld in the Pierce Brosnan films. Bond cries. You might, too. This time it really is personal.

Sam Mendes (American Beauty), the first Oscar winner to direct a 007, teams with cinematographer Roger Deakins (No Country for Old Men) to create images so gorgeous you'll want to lick the screen. The stunts are aces (check that train shootout in Istanbul that renders 007 unfit for duty), the mission intriguing (find a hard drive containing a list of NATO agents infiltrating global terrorist groups), the acting beyond the call of 007 duty (props to Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris and Albert Finney as characters too juicy to reveal).

But what makes Skyfall top off as Bond at his best is the way Mendes and screenwriters Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan use England itself – past, present and uncertain future – to remind us where Bond has been and where he's going. You'll want to be there. Skyfall is smashing, just smashing.

Finding the best balance bewteen modern filmic attributes and the classic thrills of the old films is a wise move from Mendes. 'Skyfall' is a real character driven film and delving into Bond's past is very exciting and gives the action more meaning. The cinematography is just excellent as are all the returned cast and new members (especially Q) whilst on top of that is that fact that the action is mind blowing. But what really sets this film apart is still it's charactisation.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: Silva's plan is very confusing to say the least...
VERDICT: It's hands down the best bond yet - combining the whitty charm of the classics, with the character driven aspects of modern 'Casino Royale.' Sam Mendes brings heart to the Bond franchise

Mediocridad Sobrevalorada

It attempts to explore Bond's psyche, but does it in a rather shallow manner that leads nowhere. The action scenes are a bit rough around the edges, but that is compensated by the beautiful cinematography by Roger Deakins and an innovative soundtrack by Thomas Newman. The actors give strong performances, even though Javier Bardem seems to be in a different film altogether.

Casino Royale is my favorite James Bond film. I place From Russia With Love in second place. Just so you know where I'm coming from.

Skyfall disappointed me. The biggest reason for this is that the bad guy's motivation just didn't make much sense at all. It was the opposite of the motivation in the precise and focused plot of Casino Royale. Then there were the little moments that soured me on it. Here's a few, without giving spoilers of any significance. Bond is after a bad guy. Just before he attacks the bad guy, the bad guy shoots someone. Bond could have stopped him, but didn't. Bond stands by without a care in the world as the man commits murder. And the moment after that, Bond goes after the guy. It makes no sense. He would have attacked just before. He may not be a saint but Bond as Craig has defined him (until that moment) wouldn't let an innocent person be killed that way. Next thing. Bond tells a woman he's going to rescue her from being a sex slave (forced prostitute) if she helps him with his mission. When he shows up at her place, she's in the shower. She doesn't see him. He gets naked and surprises her in the shower - they presumably have sex. This is a woman he's had exactly one conversation with in a public place. So let's recap that logic. He's going to rescue her from sexual slavery but first he pops in naked for a quickie. Anyone other than me disturbed by that? It's freaking creepy as he!!. This isn't some Bond girl he's flirted with. This is a chronic victim of rape. OK. Next thing. In one scenes he's capture but he brings in the cavalry by virtue of a hidden radio transponder in his jacket transmitting his location. Really? Couldn't he have done this with an iPhone? The radio transponder is one of Q's special gadgets, as if we live in the year 1962. It's ridiculous. And why wasn't he searched when he was captured? It would have been found. So disappointing.

Connery is the ultimate Bond, Moore is the funny Bond, Dalton is the cool Bond, Brosnan is the suave Bond and Craig is... the ugly Bond?

I have no idea why they came up with the ludicrous idea to pick Craig as the new Bond and why they decided to make Bond movies so dark and boring.

In this movie Craig is coming out of the closet as gay Bond. Javier Bardem wants to kill his rival M, who keeps stalking Bond and following him around on every mission. Bond will be his and his alone...

I was really happy when Judi Dench was finally killed of, that must have been the only positive thing about this otherwise dreadful movie. And I can't wait for the next actor to play the role of James Bond. It can't get any worse than this, can it?

It's not a kind- hearted movie which you would smile when you think about it later ( such as Amelie, Boyhood, ...) but still It's an astonishing achievement. 'Skyfall' is a Bond movie that was worth the wait, after getting off to a fantastic start with 'Casino Royale' (2006) proving that Daniel Craig is the James Bond for the 21st century. But then 'Quantum of Solace' (2008) came in, and while I don't think that it's the worst "Bond" movie I saw, I still didn't like it.

Thankfully, Oscar winning British director Sam Mendes who gave us great movies like 'American Beauty' (1999) and 'Road to Perdition' (2002) (which Daniel Craig did co-star in) is sitting in the director's chair for this one and gives us the most visually stunning Bond movie I've seen in a while.

Daniel Craig plays yet again another struggling James Bond who is more of a physical wreck and cannot perform in the field, but is brought back by M (Judi Dench) simply because she cannot trust anybody else.

The main villain is played by Javier Bardem who was absolutely great in 'No Country for Old Men' (2007) and uses that talent in this movie to the very best.

Plus, I am not a huge Adele fan, in fact, I do find most of her songs to be very depressing...but "Skyfall" is actually one of my favorite songs and of all Adele songs out there, that's the only one I like.

The cast also includes Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Winshaw and Albert Finney. This is James Bond going back to the traditional roots, the one we remember from the past and has now officially come back. This is one of the most explosive Bond movies in the franchise. After 23 movies, and over 50 years of different Bonds in different adventures...this had me riveted from start to finish.

One of the best "Bond" movies I've seen in a long time.

On the other hand, Me and my friend found this movie terribly boring. In fact, so boring that I was desperately trying not to fall asleep in the theatre and crying in my mind for some action scenes to fill in that empty spot of pleasure. However, all the action lasted for only around 1-2 minutes. It's different when you have company and you watch an tenious film when you were expecting some decent action scenes with a great storyline.

Also, this character for James Bond just doesn't cut it for me! He's like this strange emo guy that doesn't fit the classy James Bond role, who in my opinion is a gentleman, clever, mysterious, a bit of a prevent, but still pretty dope if you know what I mean. Daniel doesn't fit any of these traits! Sorry, Skyfall is nothing to me! Other people may like it but for me no!

The only parts of the movie I'd enjoyed was the introduction with Adele singing Skyfall and the "gay" scene. 3.5/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's do a recap of Bond's missions.

Bond promised to save hot Asian bond girl. Failed.
Bond promised to save M. Failed.
Bond try to protect the identity of all agents. Failed.

Super spy Bond decides the best way to protect M is to "go off the grid", yet he leaves a trail of "breadcrumbs" to lead the bad guys to a ...... dump! and you're sitting there wondering, what is this magical Skyfall place that he's leading her to? Must be a bomb silo or underground super bunker or something? No. It's a dump and there's no ammunition. WHY???
Why in the world would M be dragged around like an inept old lady who lost her marbles? Worst of all, dragged into a dump with no reinforcements and no guns.

Illogical plot.
and then... of course, she dies. Why is it so surprising? I mean they chose the WORST possible hideout and lead all the enemies to them?!

What has Bond accomplished? Nothing. He failed his damn mission! He got M killed cuz he basically abducted her to this unprotected wasteland to be hunted like an animal.

A great hero, an excellent villain and a plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat is a recipe for a fantastic movie. Expand

James Bond is back and better than ever. Skyfall is quite possibly one of the finest Bond flicks to date. It combines deep emotion with action sequences far superior to any other spy-thrillers out there. Leave it to Sam Mendes!

I don't have much of problem with the actors as they get the job done; it's more so with the movie itself. I had no clue what was happening throughout the entire movie, and I wasn't going to watch it a second time to try and understand what the hell happened. This movie's villain is probably one of the lamest I've seen in a bond film, shameful and weak is what it is. Comparing this movie to it's predecessor, Casino Royale, is like comparing a brass brick to a golden brick. This movie without a doubt is bad, from it's sheer boring feel, to it's nonsensical story. Watch any other Bond film. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie was better than the original bond movies. In the End, there was a huge house explosion that was so big it was very loud. Adele was good in the song too. Expand

I liked the fact that it showed the toll bond had accumulated over the years. But I expected him to snap out of his lonely old man state of mind and kick some ass.
