When it’s time to travel home to be with his family for the holidays, he invites his long-time roomie (Philemon Chambers ) to join him. They also pretend to be lovers, so his family will stop bugging him to find a beau. What’s initially refreshing is that this family is fully accepting of the character’s gayness…no coming out BS here. The amusing script is helped by a wonderful cast with Jennifer Coolidge at her most dizzy and hilarious (her one-woman pagent is hysterical). Even though the plot has no surprises, the end remains effectively sweet. It may sound like a Hallmark original, but this Netflix entry rises above the schlocky style of those. Expand

Who said gay couples don't face the same tedium and simplistic execution heterosexual couples get in romantic comedies?

Netflix tried, but this was basic and hollow.

Single All The Way... it could have shone as a good gay romantic comedy but there comes a point in the movie that you feel it is TOO superficial and not real at all that makes it fall

I mean, of course it looks and feels like a Hallmark Christmas movie, but you don’t go into films like this with the intent of the next When Harry Met Sally. It does its corny holiday charm thing!

A classic, feel good rom-com adjusted with LGBTQ+ audiences in mind. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s enjoyable and we’ll done.

Single all the way

Cliché and predictable, but helluva entertaining and fun. The comedic parts are subtle and endearing. The casting was perfect. (I noticed there was also no antagonist, cute.)

It is a Christmas themed romantic comedy, and those things are by default supposed to be liked - plus, there's Jennifer Coolidge. Instead the problem is how superficial and shallow the movie is, more-so than your average rom-com. It's all just too fake and unrealistically perfect.

The movie is sweet, you get a few laughs here and there - and as most Christmas movies tend to be there's some feel-goodness involved. But the movie is just too shallow and superficial. It's full of stereotypes & clichés, and almost everything is trite. Not to mention that the main plot device that brings the protagonists together (i.e. meddling friends and family) is really not-okay at all, and very questionable.

All in all, it is just a movie: an average one at best. It is thoroughly passable and it struggles to be a decent romantic comedy at all. The fact that it is a gay rom-com is probably its only redeeming bit.

It's nice to see LGTBQ2+ representation, but any magic is lost under the wave of product placement and stereotypes.
