I've never played the games, and I probably won't, but I was surprised by how much I liked the movie. It was kinda episodic because it's based on a video game, but I thought the movie was really scary and entertaining.

This film really does a great job of building a tense atmosphere without needing to put cheap jumpscares all over the place. It's mysterious and good even if sometimes it it feels like it may be a bit too complicated. Good movie, I recommend it.

The movie feels like a very extended cut scene but a pretty one at it. The photography is awesome and very much remniscant of how all games look - eerie. The movie would probably have been better in its original state - without any male leads - focusing on the mindstate that is Silent Hill instead of switching back and forth between "real" and "unreal". Very decent videogame adaption though that doesn't deserve as much negative criticism as it has been receiving. Expand

I have all the silent hill games and beat them all 13 or more times. the movie needed more horror where after the school she encounters the living darkness again in the hotel then again in the hospital, and i was hoping that rose weilded weapons like the pipe and bashed the monsters around with it. the speacial effects in the movie matched that of the game and was right on the money yet i noticed a lot of things that needed lots of improvement. Overall i enjoyed it still and do hope for a next one just more horror(screww the plot)( most of the SH games were a bit confusing to understand, the horror kept us entertained) non stop living darkness and horrible monstors. And definitely more Pyramid head popping out of every corner as in SH2!!! Its just the movie failed to define itself as a true horror movie. Expand

Seeing as most movie critics have likely never played through any of the games (Perhaps 10 minutes or so, to prevent people saying they've never played the games) I didn't go into the cinema with any preconceptions or hopes, as most videogame remakes have been either spectacularly poor or ridiculously stupid. Nevertheless, the Silent Hill franchise has always seemed like promising subject matter for a film in my opinion. I wasn't wrong. [***SPOILERS***] The film starts off very quickly, but I feel that more work could have been done to establish the characters for those who haven't played the games. Regardless, the introduction is always going to be the part of the movie which is going to be disregarded, as we all know where the meaty part is going to be: Silent Hill. On reaching the damned town, the atmosphere is very faithful to the games; including the thick, constricting fog which makes the viewer feel incredibly claustrophobic. The 'scary parts' where the darkness ensues, and the monsters come out to play, is very well done. Although there is no shock factor in particular, the segments are genuinely disturbing in keeping with the games. The special effects are professionally done, and don't look fake like some have done in previous game remakes. However, I feel that much more could have been done with Silent Hill. Of the whole time period of the film, only around 30% of the film was scary. The vast majority of the film was rather misguided in my opinion, and it tries to draw the storyline along with the audience kicking and screaming. The ending segment in the church and hospital was very drawn out, and I feel that it nullified the good work that the film does in creating a disturbing and paranoid atmosphere. The large majority of viewers are likely to have played the games, so I think that the huge amount of time devoted to conveying the storyline is slightly unwise. I would go as far to say that this isn't so much a horror film as it is a thriller with elements of horror thrown in. Nevertheless, the areas where the creatures of Silent Hill threaten Rose (Radha Mitchell) are very impressive, albeit extremely disturbing at times. However, towards the end of the film, I feel that too much effort is made to shock the viewer (My mind flashes to the segment outside the church with Pyramid Head), and that the director was trying to make up for lost time by cramming as much senseless gore into the last 20 minutes or so as possible. The acting was passable, although nothing special. Laurie Holden (The cop) was overused, and I feel that the film would have benefitted from isolating Rose much more; which would increase the feeling of loneliness and paranoia ten-fold. So essentially, Silent Hill is definitely recommended for fans of the film; but if you haven't played a substantial portion of one of the games, you will go away feeling either incredibly confused or very angry. Thankfully, the ending leaves the path open for a sequel; with Sean Bean likely to walk the hellish road to Silent Hill. Having seen his performance in this film, I think he could put in a better performance than his female counterpart. Expand

This movie certainly isn't perfect, but it worth more then a 3.0. Let me start by stating that the acting and the dialogue in this movie is bad. They really should have put some more work into that. For me, it was the visuals and the story that made Silent Hill a rather interesting movie. I haven't played the first Silent Hill game but I had no problem understanding the story, so either a lot of the critics are mentally challenged or I posses some supernatural story-understanding ability. I don't understand why some people would call the story 'dumb'. Sure, it's not really Oscar material but the story has a more depth then most horrormovies that I've seen in the pas few years. The movie itself looks great. I've seem some flashes of the SIlent Hill games and the movie really reminded me of them. It certainly has its moments of macabre and surrealistic beauty, although they were a bit few and far inbetween for my tastes. Overall an entertaining and interesting movie, that tries to be different from your average teenage slasher flick. Give it a chance. Expand

Silent Hill can certainly defy Mortal Kombat as the best VG adaptation but it is far from being the great cinematographic masterpiece it could have been. A lot of horror and psychological movies are superior and it is sad to see that films Silent Hill can certainly defy Mortal Kombat as the best VG adaptation but it is far from being the great cinematographic masterpiece it could have been. A lot of horror and psychological movies are superior and it is sad to see that films like Jacob's Ladder and Twelve Monkeys are more "Silent hillish" than Gans's flick. The main problem is, instead on focusing on a solid story and putting references here and there, Gans does the opposite. He tries to put as many references as possible and links the whole in a more or less ambiguous manner. I cannot say however that he does not know what Silent Hill is. However, I liked (not loved) this movie even if it is not going to mark a lot of minds and it will eventually be forgotten with time. [***SPOILERS***] For me the main positive thing is the absence of a Mary Sue, something that pissed me off a lot in Resident Evil and Tomb Raider. Of course there is Cybil but at least she got beaten up and expressed negative emotions (ie she does not go fighting like if she was doing her shopping and she does show stressful behavior) Gans said he got older since Le pacte des loups (which I found to be more mature). IMO, he is still a kid. He seems to have focused more on the sentence " I'm putting this because fans will love it" than on the making of a movie. Running 3/4 of the movie and resolving clues might be interesting in a VG. In a movie, we need a story and character development. Most of the critics agree on a point. Silent Hill has beautiful images and camera angles. I wouldn't be surprised if Dan Laustsen or Carol Spier got nominated for an award. However, if most of the critics say they don't understand the story, it is because the dialogue and the editing do not offer that much to allow the moviegoer to care enough for the characters. And a Silent Hill with an average story hurts. And it hurts a lot. Despite it all, 7/10. I can discuss this movie negatively for hours but there is that je ne sais quoi that made this movie entertaining to my eyes. If there is a 2-disc DVD coming up in 2007, I'd probably buy it. Expand

If I ever had a chance to meet the director i would probably run up to him and give him a very big hug followed by at least four decent slaps across the face. I love the video games and believe that they are the best survival horror games If I ever had a chance to meet the director i would probably run up to him and give him a very big hug followed by at least four decent slaps across the face. I love the video games and believe that they are the best survival horror games out there. With an intense atmosphere and an artistic design that can only be described as grotesquely beautiful, silent hill is a video game franchise that separated itself from other horror games like resident evil and fatal frame by giving us deep characters and a mysterious/intense storyline combined with unimaginable monsters in a living nightmare that disturbes and frightens all players that experience it even today. The director did his job in bringing these aspects to the big screen which made this the best and most accurate video game to movie transition so far. The only thing that didn't appear in the theater was what made the game so wonderful, the very plot. This is when I violently slap the director silly while screaming, "Why o why did you not keep the storyline?" You were going so good, then it went downhill, and in the end I was slightly disappointed. There are many reasons why the plot was changed I believe: copyrights, length of the picture, Rose can't shoot a gun to defeat the final boss and Cybil was already extra crispy (another big mistake that angers me so). But I understand and forgive the director for the plot. The story was very close to the origional, and I have to be grateful for that considering that we could have ended up with another resident evil, that only resembled the game through a virus, an evil corporation, and a lot of shot zombies. In the end real fans of the video game should appreciate and like the movie because of the many details and moments found in the movie that brought silent hill to life, but also wish the main plot ( the birth of a god of a religious cult through the body of an innocent child) was kept intact so that people new to the series can see why we love silent hill so much. Overall, the critics raped this movie like a two dollar whore because they were expecting an oscar masterpiece. It's a movie based on a video game. Don't complain that it's like watching a video game when the movie, believe it or not, is actually based on a video game! In my opinion if it's like watching a video game than thank you mr. director sir you really did your job. In all, if your a fan you will like or even love the movie. If not you might be confused, disgusted and bored while watching the show. Either way I enjoyed it and so did others. Not to mention how funny it was that Silent Hill was number 1 at the box office, but only because, in regards to American Dreams and the Sentinel, American Idol is getting as repetative and old as Michael Douglas' career. It is much like watching someone play the video game. (watching someone actually play the video game is, in fact, quite entertaining in itself though, especially with commentary from an unexpecting gamer) Overall, the movie is great fun with truly sick scenery and atmosphere combined with a great soundtrack from Akira Yamaoka (who also created the soundtrack for the games). Its drawbacks are its somewhat incoherent story (suggest playing the game first for a much greater understanding of the movie),lackluster dialouge at times (though not as bad as critics say) and the aforementioned fact that the video game itself is more engaging than the movie. I must say that, though not that scary, it is superior to most of the recent horror titles out there at the moment due to atmosphere and a plot, though messy, will keep you entirely glued to the seat throughout the movie. They'll be the ones who will grin at all the references to the gamesTakes many aspects of the video game series, but sadly fails to capture the fear. That being said it's not bad and is definitely worth a look for any fan of the video games. They'll be the ones who will grin at all the references to the games like familiar locations, enemies, and characters. By far the best thing that was taken from the video game and applied to this movie is the soundtrack. Just like in the games it adds to the atmosphere and definitely takes the movie one step further to make it feel like it is Silent Hill.

As you might expect of a video game adaption many liberties were taken with the plot, which is loosely based on the first game. Despite an overall feeling of vagueness, which does clear up as it nears it's end, the plot is much more comprehensible than that of the first game, even if I didn't quite get the ending. Still fans will appreciate the many nods to the source material.

What ultimately hurts the movie is that it's just not scary. Meaning that while fans like myself will be eating up every little thing related to the game series, those unfamiliar with the source material will be left unimpressed and possibly bored. It tries hard to pull outsiders in, but this is a video game movie for the video game fans. Others might want to look elsewhere.

As it stands it's not a good horror movie, but it's good video game movie. One that will delight fans of the series. It's a great display of fan service for anyone familiar with the games, and they're the audience that should check this out. At the end of the day that's what a video game movie should do. Too often games are translated into movies that make mockeries of the games they're based on. Yeah, it might not be scary enough for most horror-movie buffs, but this is the first video game movie I've seen that actually comes pretty darn close to capturing the magic of the game and putting it on a DVD. IT's just a shame the scares aren't there. Still, as a huge fan of the game series I really enjoyed it, and I give it a 7.9/10.

But unlike the, to me, quite close to disastrous, Resident Evil remakes (although I haven't seen RE: Afterlife yet) I was pretty much surprised about Silent Hill. The atmosphere in the games is amazing. And I think they managed to convert it into the movie pretty well. The acting isn't bad at all either. Jodelle Ferland who seems really talented to me (based on her roles in Kingdom Hospital Tideland) again is pretty steady in this movie although her role is quite small this time. Same as Radha Mitchell and Sean Bean act pretty decent. You can easily imagine the fear Mitchell (Playing the main character) is experiencing during her forced visit to lovely Silent Hill. Like most horror movies nowadays this one isn't outstanding either but it definitely will not waste your time. Expand

Still a darn sight better than the sequel, and it does at least nail the atmosphere at times.

Some parts of the film are over-explained while others leave you in a constant "What the f***". Some parts are just too creepy and shocking, while others get a little boring. Some parts are taken right out of the film, while others seemed added for no good reason. Some acting is very good, while other is very questionable.

This lack of balance is enough to make many people disinterested in the film. Either they think it's too confusing, too gory, too different from the game, too slow, etc.

Although IMO his "Brotherhood of the Wolf" was most definitely a better film, Gans definitely managed to provide something the Silver Screen hasn't seen in a long time : a dark and genuinely creepy Gothic environment with a Clive Barker sense of aesthetics. Too bad the "darkness" had only so little presence in this film, although I guess they had to make it fairly short to make it even remotely possible to survive in there.

In spite of its many flaws, however, I can say I really loved seeing "Silent Hill". It's definitely refreshing after seeing all those cliché American horror films or typical Japanese gore.

Finally a decent film based on a video game, I've been waiting for it for too long.
Although not a masterpiece of the genre, Silent Hill discreetly does its job. A film aimed mostly at teenagers but that does not have a frenetic pace and senseless violent scenes. There are violent scenes, for example the scene in which a woman is torn off by Pyramid Head, but they have a very precise sense of logic.
Good interpretation of the actors, even if Sean Bean is little used and its usefulness in the film is marginal, and in general we can talk about a good horror film that culminates in a very bad, as disturbing, final.

This is probably as good as video game adaptations can get nowadays. This movie tries to capture some of the atmosphere and succeeds most the time. Good actors, great cinematography and suspensefull.
But like all video game movies there is the ambition to have some absolutely unnecessary blockbusters traits. My major complaint is that this movie tries also to appeal to people who have never heard of Silent Hill, it's reasonable, but does this in the wrong way. It spends too much time on literally explaining and breaking the atmosphere completely, instead of giving visual hints or conversations in town on what, why and and how is something happening. Also, some of the lore gets purposely twisted.
I enjoyed watching it and would recommend it.

She lived for 2 years. She was someone who love to live but she lived painfully. She dug her nose ultil dead. Before she died, she put a curse on me. My family helped. They performed a ritual while I was not around. IT was very dirty. She was **** by my family and her nose was eaten alive. She died very painfully. I think it was a Malay Ritual. She was buried at rubbish bin near my house. they swore to take revenge. From that day onwards I saw ghosts. I suffered a lot of mental torture. I died and alive a lot of times. I did not know she was dead until one day. I saw her vision in my body crying very pitifully. She said she was dead. It was very strange. Nobody mentioned a words but my house had changed when I returned back one day. The Mayor must have allowed it. I saw the house is very dark, nobody live and the pathway changed. I think that was the place they performed the Ritual. My door sign was changed to the woman door sign. Until now I still under mental torture.

But I took a chance and I was surprised by the positive. It's not the best horror movie I've seen, but for anyone who does not know the original game, it's intense. The action takes place in Silent Hill, a ruined village that was abandoned in a hurry after a serious environmental incident, and is now haunted by powerful and cruel supernatural entities linked to the village's past. Here, a young mother searches for her missing daughter, knowing only that she went there. The story begins brilliantly and gets better and better as we watch the succession of scary events at that location. It is as if there is a dark and scary alter-ego of the village that only appears at night. The creatures that are coming up are truly the product of nightmares. By day, it's all quiet but wrapped in permanent, stubborn haze. More frightening, impossible. Of course, the film is packed with stately and well-crafted CGI, just like the sound effects. The script, however, lacks solidity and there are several plot holes that the film simply ignores, leaving unexplained to try to tell a totally ridiculous story involving witches. At a certain point, the whole story of the film can only endure if we ignore the incongruities and focus exclusively on what we are seeing. Radha Mitchell gives life to the main character, the mother who seeks her daughter, but does so in such a forced and implausible way that we can only conclude that it was a mistake to put her in that character. Jodelle Ferland gave life to Sharon and her alter-ego Alessa, the great villain. For such a young actress is undoubtedly a test of versatility, but let's face it, they were not very difficult characters. Sean Bean also appears in the film, but his character is so absurdly misused that the actor ends up almost like figuration. Expand

To be honest though, they only reused music from the third game anyway. I should know. I have that soudtrack. 0 points for plot. I'm sorry, but if you didn't understand the plot after 2 hours of the characters literaly TELLING you what was going on then you might need to re-evaluate your critical thinking skills (or really, just your thinking skills). What happened to good old story progression, you know, where the characters act and react in thier own specific situations and then we as an audience get to infer what's going on. Then again, this might be a situation where ignorance is bliss. The writing was generic and devoid of any value, both artistic and entertainment that I feel actual pain at the thought of the storyline. If you haven't played the first game in the series then do yourself a favor and scroll to the top of this page. Click on the link to GameFAQs and search out Silent Hill (Playstation). Read President Evil's Plot Analysis and see what this movie really should have been. 0 Points for the acting. I'll be the first to give it up for Sean Bean and Radha Mitchell. You could tell that they were really giving it their all, considering the material they had to work with. But even thier effort gets draged down by the piss-poor performance of Jodelle Ferland (Shannon/Alessa) and Kim Coates (Officer Gucci). Where did the casting director find these actors? And in what parallel universe is it okay to hire them? Also, and this last part is personal opinion, Deborah Kara Unger (Dahlia Gillespie) is way too attractive to play her role. Now that I think about it....I'm tkaing off another point for the plot. Negative one. That seems fair. Expand

The special effects and CGI are suitably creepy and really evoke the mood of the video games and overall everything is well directed making for some fairly interesting scenes.. Unfortunately however, despite far too much exposition and explaining of back stories, the plot doesn't make much sense and isn't particularly interesting anyway (something which is even more frustrating since the second video game in the series has a pretty decent storyline) meaning parts of Silent Hill can be a bit of a chore to sit through.

Some horror fans may enjoy it but In the end this is yet another example of a video game license being mis-used.

I'm a huge fan of the silent hill series, and there are a lot of things this movie does right such as the art direction and the settings always look great through the whole movie. However there were many changes to the plot that I found unnecessary and caused it to lose the unique touch that the older games had. Also the script writing is very hit and miss, sometimes the dialogue is good, other times it falls flat on it's face. I know SH1 wasn't exactly a shining example of good script writing and voiceovers but that was a game made in the 90s. I will say that it's miles above many of the other game-to-movie adaptations and doesn't just feel like a cheap cash in. It just could have used a lot of improvements and I really wanted to see the actual story of silent hill 1 play out in a movie... One of the most popular horror movies, but i don't like it so much. It's really excessive.

As far as video game movies go, this ain't half bad (or it's extacly half bad, which is still pretty good for a mid 2000s video game adaptation).
It actually tries to capture the spirit of the games, unlike other adaptations of the time.

The visuals are really damn good (though it still can look very cheap at times). The acting is pretty good, though Jodelle Ferland who plays Sharon really isn't.

The film is too long and it loses all momentum whenever it cuts to Sean Bean's character. There's a fanedit that is shorter and removes all of Bean's scenes and apparently it's pretty good, so I might have to give it a watch.

This is a movie that's better to look at than to actually watch. It gets very repetitive and I kept losing interest, but it sure does look creepy.

The sound and music are also very good (though I did notice one line that sounded like it was composited from two different takes and it sounded really bad).

Overall, this is one of the better videogame adaptations, though its flaws still keep it from being more than average, which is still a big step up from other films of its kind.

The main music theme (while overused) is very pleasant, and the gore levels are pretty fantastic (people getting ripped apart, and climactically, muffs being mutilated). The creatures are pretty imaginative too: mangled contortions of the human form, and pretty unnerving to view (especially the gang of "hospital patients"). The special effects, particularly the walls melthing and transforming, are also top-notch. Unfortunately, these attributes culminate the 4 points I have awarded to this movie, which is otherwise severly lacking. For starters, Silent Hill is not particularly scary. And for a horror film, this can be considered a big deal. It's frustrating though, because all the components are there: the horrific abominations that patrol the streets as well as the desolate atmosphere show so much potential, but this is never exploited. The story is pretty weak and pretty ridiculous, culminating in an ambiguous (are they dead or just trapped in Silent Hill dimension?) and deeply unsatisfying ending. Also, the lesbian sex cop sideline didn't seem to lead anywhere, which made for an unnecessary loose end. The acting is pretty offensive too: Sean Bean's laboured American accent is difficult to listen to given my previous respect for the established thesbian, and it baffles me why they would give Sharon (the little girl) would be given so many lines when other films of a similar setup have proven time and time again that children CAN'T act and are unbearable to watch. So ultimately, we're left with a dull, fruitless shell of a film, with so many non-sensical aspects to the plot: why are there creatures roaming about in the first place? Why would you try and escape from a police officer when you've done nothing wrong? These are just some of the questions pulling the sloppy mix of dialogue and action apart. But it was this or Scary Movie 4. I made my choice.....make yours. Expand

I was revealed to a story that was so over the place that i could barely understand what was happening. After later pondering and thought, i could decipher it more, but the entire movie experience was cut short because of the confusion of the story. Now, i know some people will be like OMFG wtf is this person talking about he should have played the game....but the movie director and makers should have filled in this hole for the people that didn't play the 1st games. Also in many parts, it had the potential to be much scarier than it is, but it doesn't seem to take the chance. For example towards the end, it had random things with sharp barb things. THEY WEREN"T SCARY. they were retarded looking. This movie would be decent if it weren't for the non scariness and the confusing story. Expand

The plot wanders in about 4 different directions toward the end, and the film just can't pull everything together in a cohesive way. great job of setting the mood, but poor job of executing the plotlines.

The only time I even came close to jumping is when some birds flew out of a hole--scary stuff, I know. So even though they stayed close to the story, there was no suspense, no ambience, no HORROR! Here is some advice (if fancy yourself a reasonably intelligent human being). DO BELIEVE THE CRITICS (for once). I was SO excited about this movie (being a huge fan of the games) and I read all the IMDB reviews and all the fans saying Here is some advice (if fancy yourself a reasonably intelligent human being). DO BELIEVE THE CRITICS (for once). I was SO excited about this movie (being a huge fan of the games) and I read all the IMDB reviews and all the fans saying "don't listen to the critics, this is the best movie-game adaptation ever! 10 stars!" Well. While it may be the best movie/game adaptation... that isnt saying much. This movie is BAD. HORRIBLE script. These actors have all been good in past roles... so its hard to see how they could suck so bad in this movie. Its true that is it does LOOK GOOD (visual effects)... but... god. What a horrible let down. RENT THIS ... to satisfy your curiosity... but ITS NOT worth seeing in the theater. My 2 cents. Expand

The first two Silent Hill games are as close to art as video games have ever come - themes, motifs, beautiful visuals, and social commentary, all wrapped up in a profoundly disturbing and meloncholy package. The movie, on the other hand, is standard hollywood fare - a dumb incomprehensible plot wrapped up in a beautiful package. The art direction is absolutely incredible, but the plot betrays the games in the most horrible way. You know that you have a bad movie on your hands when A VIDEO GAME IS TEN THOUSAND TIMES MORE SUBTLE THAN YOUR BLOODY FILM. The first hour is promising, and then the last hour turns into a complete mess of a horror/action picture. It moves too fast to be scary, takes itself too seriously to be funny, and wraps everything up in a cathartic grand guignol scene that makes absolutely no sense for the kind of movie this is. I wasn't looking for redemption and catharsis, I was looking for meloncholy and abject terror. Not only that, but all of the thematic material and social commentary of the series was completely butchered in favor of a bunch of silly exposition and gore. That's not to say I didn't have tons of fun, but in no way do I believe this movie was any good, and I was completely disappointed. Expand

Silent Hill is a very atmospheric movie that does not entirely live up to the epic video games. It is disturbing, it is frightening at times but it is dull and an overlong experience.

I'm sorry but I had high hopes for this one. The marketing seemed to make it look like a good movie but in the end it wasn't. The marketing seemed to make it look like a good movie but in the end it wasn't. I have played most of the Silent hill games and they were really freaky, which is not what you get here. I will make it simple by pointing out the problems and what it did good. [***SPOILERS***] THE GOOD: -Creatures looked great -World looked and felt like silent hill. -Some faithful setups to the game. THE BAD: -The acting was abismal even from good actors such as Sean Bean. -Dialogue wasn't that good either. -Not Scary. -Not that gory except at the end. -Not enough Pyramid head (He was the coolest thing about the movie) -Not enough use of the static in the phone. (It played such a large role in the game it would have been nice to see it used more). -All this fade to the nightmare and fade back to reality left the movie feeling disjointed. -Editing could have been better especially for the sequences where the characters are in the same place but a different dimension or whatever. -5 minute explanation of what I spent two hours watching.(Should have been done in a way to make me feel like hey cool that is why this happened, not just throwing this scene in to fill all the gaps). -Not Scary especially the girl who was suppossed to be. I could go on and one but I will stop there. Like I said I am pretty forgiving of movies but this one really disappointed me. It had so much potential and it got thrown out the window. I even like previous video game adaptations better than this, with the exception of Alone in the Dark, I didn't bother seeing other Uwe movies so I can't comment. The main problem is I never felt pulled into the movie so that I would care what was happening. I was just watching the way I watch reruns on TV instead of being engaged in a scary experience. Even for a die hard fan I would sadly not recommend this. Expand

Please if you have not played the game, do so and forget about this film ever being made, and shame on you Christophe Gans, you could have taken any other horror videogame. Why didn't you let the Japanese video game writter, write the film. They basically said, lets take some stuff from the first game, but the second game was more scary soooo.... You can't blame anyone else for this horrid movie other than Gans. I don't blame the actors, they were given a chance to be in a chilling movie, but had jerks write and direct the film. I can't believe we had to be given an explanation at the coming end of the movie. If i had one question for Christophe Gans i would ask him, DID YOU EVER SPEAK TO THE JAPANESE CREATORS OF THE GAME?. Aburrida y sin tensión, otra película floja sobre videojuegos que, no se como, logra gustar a algunos. Todo es una sucesión de chorradas que no asustan nunca, es una pérdida de tiempo, pese que la atmósfera se parezca a la del juego.

Granted, the special effects weren't bad at all, and some of the scenes were very nicely put together. But that's really where the honest praise must end, even for fans of the game. I hate to say it, but this was some of the worst acting I've seen in a long time, and again I'm really not that picky. Of course, the script didn't give the actors much to work with in the first place. Perhaps most disappointing was the lack of credibility of the characters. Sure, terribly stupid decisions are pretty much commonplace in horror flicks, but this one really stretched things. I really think a lot more could have been achieved with this cast, budget, and the basic premises of Silent Hill, the game. Too bad, really. Expand

I don't like video games. This was a film with a good story that was elaborated on lousily. The characters did not develop, nor was there any insight in there motives. And the end was just misty, made for part 2, I guess.

A promising starts gives way to something completely unrelated to the series I love. To say it's a disappointing film would imply some kind of expectation from a video game to film cash in, so let's just say it sucked.
