I've come to expect great things from Dennis Villanueva and by god does he deliver with this movie. Direct hit! Sicario is exciting from start to finish. The atmosphere, the music and the individual characters and building blocks, everything seems threatening. You are actually on the edge of the seat all the time. An incredibly good film.

This is hands down the best movie of 2015. Sicario is the only war movie that I can stomach, and in fact, I enjoy the movie despite it being quite depressing. Sicario is an unorthodox war movie because it encompasses a modern war not fought on fronts: the drug war. Villeneuve presents war as a dehumanizing evil force, one that takes and never gives. Blunt and del Toro both give great performances, presenting souls tortured in different ways, getting more mangled throughout the movie. The casting was well done, and the costumes department also did a great job. The changes that the characters undergo are shown through the gradual darkening of their clothes. As the world grows bleaker and stakes escalate irreversibly the dark truth starts to bleed into all aspects of life, love, leisure, and relaxation. Sicario paints the world with a meticulous and bleak brush. The movie’s cinematography, sound design, and score make it a visceral watch, bubbling with tension. Villeneuve is a master on the rise, if not a master already. Sicario is both allegorical and cautionary. It rings perhaps too close to home for the modern world.… Expand

Le "style Denis Villeneuve" s'affirme sensiblement dans ce Sicario, avant de se développer davantage dans le Blade Runner 2049 ... sans mentionner bien entendu le Premier Contact mais celui-ci m'était passé par dessus la tête et m'avaitLe "style Denis Villeneuve" s'affirme sensiblement dans ce Sicario, avant de se développer davantage dans le Blade Runner 2049 ... sans mentionner bien entendu le Premier Contact mais celui-ci m'était passé par dessus la tête et m'avait assommé plus vite qu'une boîte entière de somnifères ; le Blade ressorti de la tombe, quant à lui, était atteint d'un mauvais scénario et de longueurs terribles... bien que d'une beauté formelle sidérante, certes.

Mais ici avec Sicario, sa mise en scène très posée, articulée autour d'un scénario ici très malin, fait le poids et largement l'affaire. Et bien plus encore. Cela reste de temps en temps un peu lent mais on apprécie les ambiances que veut imposer le réalisateur, des ambiances fichtrement efficaces. Monsieur Villeneuve n'aime pas la musique, il aime les ambiances sonores, bizarres et soutenues pour illustrer ses images.

Il aime aussi beaucoup filmer avec le drone et je suis d'accord avec lui : les vues aériennes, c'est beau. Quant à l'action -quand il y en a- elle est toujours montée correctement et la caméra reste stable : tu as bien raison, Denis, la steadycam, c'est le bien. Et le cadrage, à savoir profiter du cinémascope au maximum, ça ne peut pas faire de mal non plus.

Pour revenir sur le scénario, il est des plus malins en effet de par sa capacité à nous mener en bateau mais se révèle hélas vers la fin un peu trop "hollywoodien", voire à la limite de l'incrédulité à la manière d'un bouquin de Tom Clancy... à moins que ce ne soit un clin d'oeil à Hitman, le jeu... C'est que sous ses habits très élégants, Sicario n'en demeure pas moins une grosse machine dans le petit monde des films triple A sur les gros trafiquants de drogue.

Mais on s'y complaît volontiers, surtout lorsqu'il est servi par l'excellent Benicio del Toro toujours d'une intensité extraordinaire ici, le sympathique baroudeur Josh Brolin et la si jolie Emily Blunt qui s'affirme comme la nana en vogue à Hollywood, ou l'une des très rares nanas qui méritent la vogue pour leur talent évident, leur charisme naturel et leur personnalité. Emily, forte et vulnérable à la fois, incarne à merveille ce personnage témoin d'une narco-guerre où tous les coups sont permis...

Un film de grande qualité donc, on l'aura compris, qui brille par sa réalisation originale et bien léchée avec une superbe Emily qui sait quand il faut la fermer... (j'en rigole encore, de cette scène, d'une tension exceptionnelle !).… Expand

In the lawless border area stretching between the U.S. and Mexico, an idealistic FBI agent [Emily Blunt] is enlisted by an elite government task force official [Josh Brolin] to aid in the escalating war against drugs. Led by an enigmatic consultant with a questionable past [Benicio Del Toro], the team sets out on a clandestine journey forcing Kate to question everything that she believes in order to survive.

A great fast-paced, dark and powerful story, with an amazing direction adding some very talented cast, but with a couple of flaws, this is how Sicario was born.

Let's jump to the flaws.. Emily Blunt's character wasn't so necessary, she had no goal but just going with the waves of this movie, but with her amazing performance, she convinced me -or I pretended being convinced- that her goal is cleaning the world of it's dark crimes, but for me, it's uneven.

Some scenes were so confusing, and there was nothing to give any hope, it's just dark.. from the beginning to the very very end!

These are the flaws of this movie, everything else was well made.. the breathtaking scenes mixed with amazing performances with great story.

Sicario is a great movie, and I'm gonna give it an A-.

I have watched Sicario 4 times now. I love the grit of the movie and they make no bones about getting real. Benecio plays the perfect Alejandro. This movie could have gone on forever and I would have watched it.

'Sicario' has moments of sprawling tension, executed perfectly mostly through Joe Walker's precise editing and a nerve-wrecking score by the late Jóhann Jóhannsson. Of course, all encapsulated by Denis Villeneuve's striking directing style and the great Roger Deakins' highly produced cinematography.

Two scenes steal the show in 'Sicario'. We have the convoy of all black Chevrolet jeeps passing through the Mexican Border. It is a scene presented with cutting-edge camera-movement and is a tense, stressful scene. The ending scene goes full 'Zero Dark Thirty' being a high definition demonstration of American Special Forces procedures filled with radio-chatter, drones and, most importantly, cover-up.

The film has outstanding production values and great performances by Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin. This is a film filled with secrets, eventual discoveries and careful realizations. Throughout all of it, we are being taken through a textbook executed war on drugs yet as we get closer to the ending another story unfolds. Taylor Sheridan's script makes this story work on many levels and as I got closer to the ending, the film accommodated me to the 'means to an end' philosophy of its characters. But then again, in a land where drug dealers mercilessly chop people and put them on display, school football matches being randomly interrupted by gunshots and families being torn apart by narcotics, this was not hard to do.

In the end, 'Sicario' might lack a certain sustenance and its lead character Kate Macer (Emily Blunt) might feel a bit passive, but, as a whole, the film gets its point across in a polished manner. Couldn't help but notice there were more mothers than fathers watching those football games...… Expand

Equal parts police-procedural and action-thriller, Villeneuve (one of the best directors working in Hollywood today) Hurt Locker-style ultra-realistic but artful approach gives way to some of the most intense scenes in recent memory from the opening raid to the masterful almost Hitchcockian border-crossing sequence. And lets not forget that dope night-vision sequence!!!

„Sicario“ was the only movie in English directed by Denis Villeneuve that I hadn’t seen yet. All five (including „Prisoners“, „Enemy“, „Arrival“, „Blade Runner 2049“) have been cult hits and among the most critically acclaimed screen works of given release year.

Villeneuve’s movies are emotionally distant, slow-burning, and usually more dependent on mood than sharp storytelling. I am not the fan of his style – it's too slow, rather uneventful, lacks sharp dialogue and character building – but I gotta admit that it always pays off.

I could also say that „Sicario“ doesn’t really offer any intriguing characters except Del Toro’s (good that he’s gonna be back for sequel „Soldado“) and the best drug war / trafficking stories are just more captivating (especially „The Wire“ and „Breaking Bad“)…

But it doesn’t change the fact that it’s a solid thriller, and a cool movie which makes you gradually more and more thankful that you endured the rather slow first half.… Expand

The movie has striking visuals, well written story & dialogues. The actor performace is amazing, especially Brolin's. The music is very well atuned to the action. Y es que lo primero que destaco son esos planos tan Villenueve, increible fotografía que hace presiosa de ver, aunque el entorno donde tiene lugar, no lo es precisamente. El guión es fabuloso y la madurez tanto del relato, de temas y de personajes es muy adulta y valiente.

Los actores están bien, correctos, aunque tampoco me parece que haya una super-interpretación por parte de nadie. Tampoco hacía falta contratar a John Berthal para dos escenas...

En conclusión, para mí Sicario es un peliculón pero no es mejor que la llegada. Notable alto.… Expand

What starts off as a look into the dark side of the war on drugs, quickly turns into a brutal revenge flick where no one is the hero. As with the director's previous works, the reason things are so enjoyable is because the characters are so incredibly human. Broken and willing to resort to violent means to get what they want, but human nonetheless.

Sicario is simply an excellent thriller. There are perhaps some pacing issues here and there, but for the most part everything is up to par. It's a great, mature story that's sure to entertain. Particularly if you've enjoyed Villeneuve's other works.

I was curious after seeing the trailer, but really, this was so much better than I could have imagined.

The best film I've seen in a long long time...every expectation I developed as I watched "Sicario" was defied so extremely that I was quite shocked (in the best way) as I watched this film.

I'm not going to give away any spoilers here, but considering how much different a particular scene would be rendered if Benecio Del Toro didn't flick his wrist with such accuracy...because I expected that scene. What I got instead, floored me.

Performances across the board are pitch perfect and director Villenueve builds amazing amounts of tension atop dread (and vice versa) from the opening shot to the credit roll. Considering the intensity level of the film's opening scenes, that is no simple feat.

I see in a mixed review below, a sentence which I quote as: "Pretty much no story whatsoever, the trend of female and black guy continues, both characters absolutely useless and added only for "diversity" reasons." I don't know what film they watched but it was not the same one - anyone who considers this film to have "no story whatsoever" should quit writing reviews because they are oblivious to nuance, shading and subtlety. Perhaps they should also check the dictionary to confirm that they understand what the word "story" means.

I'm not blaming her, she's a great actress, I'm just saying she was wrong for the role and that took away points from the film because she was more distracting than immersed. The final few scenes of the film were so anti-climatic, too, with "Kate" pointing her gun at "Alejandro" yet again when she was warned not to, and the final soccer field scene. I understand what the director was attempting but it didn't measure up to the prior events. Really needs a more worthy ending if/when someone remakes it.… Expand

The main things that stand out from this movie are the acting, directing and the brilliant cinematography from the amazing Roger Deakins who can do no wrong.Everybody in the movie is amazing, especially Emily Blunt, who is traumatized most of the time and this is certainly one of the best roles I have ever seen her play. Benicio del Toro also really surprised me and his character is really mysterious.
The action in this movie, while there's not much of it, it was still great and very intense. Also, the score is amazing by Jóhann Jóhannsson and it totally deserved the Oscar nomination.
However this movie is very slow in some parts and it feels like it's dragging on for quite a while. There are some good intense sequences but at the same time some slow parts that go on forever. The ending is also weird with a surprise twist.
Nonetheless I enjoyed this movie but I wouldn't say it's one of the 2015's best.… Expand

All the actors involved did a great job but Benicio Del Toro stands out by far, he plays a very mystery character that you always want to know more about, The film starts focusing more on Emily Blunt but near the end fades towards Del Toro's side of the story.Sicario is a film that when watching it the first time you find lots of enjoyment and excitement out of the film but even that it's such a well put together film I don't feel the urge to watch it again. This is what films should do - make us think, question, discuss. And Sicario does an excellent job of that.

I think a lot of people dislike how helpless the protagonist (Kate) is, but to me it just adds realism. There are so many situations in real life where the "good guys" are simply powerless to do anything.

My only criticism is that the film was a bit predictable - it was pretty obvious that nothing would happen to Kate, and unlikely that anything would happen to Alejandro.… Expand

This was really a great film. Fighting against the drug trafficking was the theme. The story of an FBI agent who was recruited to work in an elite force that no one knows its existence. Their's aim is to tackle the main source, instead to deal with its lower order. Something that impossible to do without international cooperation. Every raid is done in secretively, sometime if required at any cost in whatever effort to stop it. Like I said, this was an awesome movie, and good to see it after the documentary like 'Cartel Land'.

The story is kind of hard to detail it out, because it was more an action movie than the talking. How a special force unit goes after the bad guys and stops them is the main plot. But the characters were so distinctive, every main roles had their own agenda for what they are doing and that's how the narration dominated with the high standards.

The cast who played them were simply outstanding, including that starts with Emily Blunt, who is someone looks changed the attitude to play physically challenging roles after 'Edge of Tomorrow'. And then Josh Brolin and another one, an upcoming young British actor who I really don't know, but Benicio Del Toro was actually the show stealer.

His part was unexpectedly great, totally raw and aggressive. Especially the his end scene, no one could have guessed it, but that's how the way it is. No doubt any top actors would have denied to perform that, anyway well shot with minimum violence, but the intention was very clear as fighting against the dark forces to cut off the head first. One of the best movie of the year, so definitely recommended if you're interested.

This truly felt like a director's movie, given that we are living in a day and age where a movie feels like it belongs to the studio.

The cinematography is also great, and the movie knows how to add suspense without treating its audience like idiots. With a plot that focuses on an FBI agent (Emily Blunt) that is enlisted by the government to track down the leader of a Mexican drug cartel, you know you are in for over 2 hours of brilliant suspense and atmosphere.

It may not be the blockbuster type movie, nor is it the kind of movie that you may watch over and over again, but it's a movie that has quality.… Expand

Sweaty, pulsating with uncanny tension and trumpeting with constant uncertainty, it seems that the land in which Sicario is based on is inhabited solely by the ravenous animals of the desert; and no, it isn’t referring to the four-legged desert beasts hungry for blood.

Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier in the season, Villeneuve’s newest film seems to touch upon a current trend plaguing all new outlets, artistic commentaries and current events; immigration, and not just at a national level, but from a very large and vast international one.

Sicario takes places in the rural desert areas of Arizona and Mexico, setting the tone for a very corrupt and dangerous world where Mexican cartels rule the land, and the sounds of gunshots are as frequent as the cries of wolves. Drug cartels keep citizens in fear, police are as corrupt as the cartels themselves, and the efforts of the United States and their universal judiciary right for “peace” is as subtle as the low-efficiency Black SUV’s snaking their way through the hot highway pavements. With the high exposure of Trump’s high-attention media-driven campaign, as well as age-old conflicts between land, boarders and people in other areas of the world, the issues of immigration are as universal as the numeric system, which makes Villeneuve a perfect candidate to direct a wrought, unbiased and highly effective piece of fiction and reality.

Yet, with all its high-profile media attention and concurrent position in all the headlines, Sicario doesn’t soar to its conventional storyline of corruption and intrigue of mystery for loyalties and alliances; the film itself exceeds due to its honest portrayal of people playing people, dealing in real ways with the abundance of injustice and violence.

The spearhead of these real people is highlighted by the impeccable performance from Emily Blunt. Blunt, who trades in glam for grit, plays Kate Macer, an idealistic Special Weapons and Tactical Team agent who believes in justice and the greater good. During a routine kidnapping raid, Macer and her trusty partner, Reggie Wayne (Daniel Kaluuya), encounter a total of forty-two corpses hidden within the walls of the abandoned home, as well as an explosive device that detonates, killing two officers, and wounding Kate and Reggie. With the aftermath of the explosion behind them, Kate is offered a position working for the CIA and Department of Defence, lead by the egotistical and reckless Matt Graver (Josh Brolin). Using brute force and unconventional and highly illegal methods of dismantling the Mexican drug cartel, the special unit, paired with the help of a very mysterious and highly intimidating Alejandro (Benecio Del Toro), break the rules of law in order to get their men.

Sicario is an uncomfortable film, in every sense of the word. Recommending the film would be a hard sell. If it wasn’t for the always spectacular Del Toro, who chimes in an Oscar worthy supporting performance that requires very little dialogue, but masterful minimalist acting, the film itself isn’t the most commercial in theatres. The intensity of the film stays true to the very blurred lines of federal justice while crossing State lines; constantly being under strict surveillance. Although the characters seem to be always out of their own jurisdiction, Kate seems to be the teams only voice of reason. It becomes quite clear early on, that everyone else in the ops are crossing the rules of the terrain, forcing Kate to bend her very strong and unwavering moral conscious. What might appear to be a very annoying character trait, in reality becomes a selling feature as Kate’s ability to humanize the very barbaric people around her is something audiences admire, not begrudge.

Much like the memorable performance from Del Toro’s Alejandro, Sicario embodies the characteristics of the most memorable strong, silent type characters in cinema. Without over-stimulating the senses in the way Hollywood knows how to, Sicario never lets up its aggressive demeanour, despite its scarcity. Thanks to the wonderful work of Jòhann Jòhannsson (Prisoners, The Theory of Everything, Foxcatcher), who sets an unsettling score with natural sounds of harmful creatures (buzzing of bees, howling of wolves), the film’s score paces the very slow moving material at a very heavy and fluid pace. Matched with the wonderful cinematography of master Roger Deakins, the confident and tremendous direction of Villeneuve, and phenomenal transformation of Blunt as Kate, Sicario is one of the most, if not most, complete films of 2015, in all regards, cinematically speaking.

Let's star with Directing - I thought that directing was phenomenal. It seemed that all of the main actors were on the same page as far as the movie should go. And portrayed their roles perfectly. All of the actors worked together like a well made Swiss watch. Denis Villenueve masterfully managed to capture the intensity and suspense of this mesmerizing thriller. The director cemented his name as one of the best if not the best thriller masters in Hollywood today. I would rate it 18/20
Cinematography - Was really impressive, and manages to capture the audience from the first shot of the movie and never let go of the viewer. The lightning seems bleak, but that just adds to suspense of the movie. There were a lot of impressive shots, including the very well made aerial shots of the USA - Mexican border. I would rate it 17/20
Writing - A movie is as good as it's script. Well in this case it's marvelous. The movie delivers everything it promises and more. It manages to deliver the thrills and sense of intensity from the start. All through out the movie, viewers are encouraged to question every single character, because the line of good and bad in this movie is very thin. 20/20
Score - The composer Johann Johannson manages to do a very good job. Score is done to perfection. Every bit of sound seems to fit the frames perfectly and just helps to add the thrills. I would rate it 18/20
Acting - A give a very big A plus for all the actors in this movie. Like i mentioned before, everyone fitter the role pretty much perfectly with good casting. All of the actors performed very well, so it is very difficult to mention some in particular. It seemed like every actor added something personal to the role, that made them very memorable. The chemistry between actors was something special, every relationship between characters was really intensifying, and mesmerizing. I would rate it 20/20
Now for the MVP of the movie is: Jon Bernthal, who truly might have slipped under the radar. But his performance was both memorable and amazing. Even though he didn't have very much of a screen time, what he did with what he got, was really masterful. He deliver a bad cop, who does not give a bad impression and hides under a mask. His character is like a wolf, disguised himself as a sheep.
In Total i would rate this movie - 95/100. One of the best thrillers ever made, and one of the best last years movies.… Expand

Unbelievably tense scene building and an endless array of incredible shots thanks to the man, myth and legend: cinematographer Roger Deakins.

It seems like this guy Villeneuve can't make a movie that isn't genuinely exceptional. I did not have an interest in the plot of Prisoners, and it ended up being my favorite film of that year hands down. Same thing with his other incredible film Enemy. I had very little interest in Sicario's story as well, assuming it was going to be bland and derivative, and it ended up enthralling me literally from beginning to end. Could be the strongest director working today, if not easily in the top 5. If he keeps em coming at this level of quality, well he can shut up and take my money cause I'm sold!… Expand

A haunting performance by Benicio Del Toro highlights this, deliberately paced, dark, sinister movie. Some of the dialog was hard to understand, and it took awhile to figure out what exactly was going on. Emily Blunt, who reprises her tough-girl role that she played in "Edge of Tomorrow", isn't given a lot to do.. And Josh Brolin's WTF personality is a little distracting. But overall "Sicario" is solid, adult entertainment. It is one of the top movies of the year.… Expand

I can sign that this was a good movie. The pacing in this movie is fanatic moving seamlessly from slow paced build up to high intensity action. The cinematography is gorgeous and the film is well written.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Confused and crushed sums up Emily Blunt's character in Sicario. And that is how the director intends for the audience to feel. But the confusion prevents us from a deeper connection with "Kate" as we struggle to understand what is happening and why. It is a testimony to EB's skill that we remain involved with Kate/Kat whose curiosity does lead to her undoing. If Sicario had focused more on her moral quandary (duty and greater good versus breaking the law and doing bad things) and less on her drive to understand, she would have been much more believeable. Instead, we want to shout "who cares why, just walk away from this moral morass". I am tempted (a little) to watch Sicario again without the confusion. But no, I'm not that curious.… Expand

Sicario was a superb film that i heavily enjoyed from start to finish. Emily Blunt smashes her role as a morally conscience FBI agent with a need to hunt down the bad guys. Emily Blunt smashes her role as a morally conscience FBI agent with a need to hunt down the bad guys. The films overall tone is gritty and dark, highlighting the harsh reality of the violence and horror that occurs in the modern world of America as well as parts of Mexico. Benicio Del Toro nails it as a mysterious and deadly antagonist and this really shines in his scenes with Blunt, conveying an underling light vs dark and good vs evil theme. Sicario's cinematography is brilliant. The film is definitely one of the best looking of 2015 with vibrant and colorful backdrops, juxtaposing heavily with the dark scenes transpiring in the foreground. Josh Brolin and Daniel Kaluuya also are strong supporting actors, both providing the film with a heightened sense of urgency as well as a balanced level of comic relief which doesn't take away from the films overarching narrative. Sicario is a well written story, however the film does fall short in some scenes with slow moving plot points and a handful of unnecessary scenes. Nonetheless, Sicario deserves praise for a gripping story, stellar and intense action pieces, strong performances in most characters as well as a chilling finish which will leave viewers on the edge of their seats.… Expand

Sicario is a great follow up from Prisoners by director Villenueve. The cinematography is excellent and score is heart thumping. The movie keeps an intense atmosphere from beginning to end.

Who are the dead? They in fact already know, but an investigation gets underway nevertheless..
But then something odd happens. In most movies the tension will ease as the investigation picks up and the imminent danger has disappeared because the site is secured by the police.. Instead the tension is kept up with eerie music, a steady drone in the background. And one can feel something is coming, but what, when and how?

And it does.

The movie is tense, not through action scenes and fights, but precisely because of this sense unease. Of digging for water, but finding bloody mud. Of wanting to save someone, but finding scores of mutilated decaying bodies instead. When Blunt, a talented but inexperienced FBI agent who gets recruited by the shadowy Brolin for a job that is all but clear, is part of the team that has to transport a crime boss from Mexico to the US, they pass a group of mutilated bodies hanging from lamp poles. And the transport is guarded by a lot of Mexican jeeps equipped with machine guns. Thus indicating that the Mexican police has no longer authority in some parts, but just the bigger violence to ward against the gangs that would otherwise dare to attack them. There is no law beyond the gun: there is anarchy.

The movie reminds me of a Michel Mann movie in the way it was shot and of No country for old men in the mood of the story. And the music is very well used to set that mood. The acting is just great by everyone involved eith Del Toro taking the biggest share of the credit. A very well written tense movie that is certainly recommended was it not for Blunt.

And there you have the main flaw of this movie. In fact it was such a big issue that, given I use a simple scoring system, I have considered it to be a meh movie and award it a 5..

It isn't Blunt herself, but the role she has to play. This role is so far from the role she plays in Edge of Tomorrow, but also from the role she is supposed to play. This is the role of the sheriff from the No Country for old men. She is passive in this movie. She gets dragged along by Brolin who tells her they go to El Paso but instead they go to Mexico. When a team is about to enter a tunnel she clearly hears that the soldiers, for that is what they are, are weapons free. In other words: can open fire whenever they want. And soon enough she figures out, no wait, she is told that she is now part of a CIA operation that has probably no legal backing except for her signing some paper that everything went by the book while it is clear that Del Toro is probably not much more than a criminal himself.

And so goes the rest of the movie. Blunt's character just gawks, moans and even gets sick but does nothing about it, even when Del Toro at some point shoots her. She is like an old man who is defeated and exhausted and gives up the fight. And thus Blunt just goes through the movie with one expression on her face: a continuous frown. And it just doesn't fit well. I cannot believe that a young promising FBI agent will already have given up, but perhaps I am a fool.

At the end Del Toro tells her what to do: run of to a nice little town, girly. For the wolves have come.

I bet she does.… Expand

Ultimately a grim and strong movie that accomplishes and serves its theme.
The movie is far from a movie that is suppose to leave you in awe, it's a movie that serves to paint the dark and true terror of a very, very real social issue.

Their is a basic plot however the characters were relatable and the audience can feel emotionally attached. When I saw this film, I walked out of the theatre thinking, God, I want to be Benicia del toro. Although what his character eventually does (kill the wife and kids of a drug lord), we can still see the human in him. I remember in the suspenseful scene where the drug lord's family is killed by del Toros character, the audience in the theatre in fact cheered, because it was so emotionally well handled and justified. The cinematography was great, swift, cinematic, intense, the directing was beautiful, acting was great and writing strong (though plot was a bit weak).I loved this film and I believe it is seriously underrated… Expand

Villenueve is an incredible director. With an astonishing opening that’s gritty and visceral, and bringing incredible foreshadowing with the motes of dust you can see why people are pumped about this film.

The gore is brief but effective. The violence is covered and not made to excite, but is extremely effective. Denis shows how insignificant a good person can be in a male dominated world full of deceit and wrong doing. He shows we run in a cycle, and if you change something for the ‘better’, things always end up worse. In a way he shows chaos theory.
Emily Blunt is a great character but it is Benicio Del Toro who is the biggest star of this, and in one scene with him towards the end of the film he had 75% of the audience in my cinema gasp.
An incredible film, although personally I’d say I enjoyed Prisoners a tad more.
