This is about as perfect a superhero movie as could be made! So much fun and not just a comedy. It gets DARK in areas. Lots of surprises and easter eggs as well!

really good movie, DC has finally found its feet and they knock it out of the park with this movie, with a more lighthearted tone Shazam is a lot of fun on top of being a great exploration of what it would be like to suddenly gain super powers.

I am quite disappointed that some of you guys felt that this movie is not even worth 1 star. How is it possible ? (strangely this are the same guys that give tens to captain marvel) Seriously to me is very funny throughout the movie. This is all I want in a small superhero movie! It was fantastic, and had a Amblin-like quality and a strong 80's feeling over it. Zachary Levi, Jack Dylan Grazer and Asher Angel all kill it in their respective roles.

First of all, I just want to mention how yes this is a superhero movie but that is just what’s on the surface while underneath it’s a movie about family and I love that. This movie shows that superhero movies can tell more than just being aFirst of all, I just want to mention how yes this is a superhero movie but that is just what’s on the surface while underneath it’s a movie about family and I love that. This movie shows that superhero movies can tell more than just being a funny superhero movie but also a serious film as well, as long as they do it right. This leads into the character development that happens in this film, mainly with Billy. From the beginning to the end Billy doesn’t stay the same but he changes. Now, I have to talk about the acting of course and what else can I say other than its spectacular. Everybody in this film does their job at a hundred and ten percent. I want to mainly talk about Zachary Levi and Jack Dylan Grazer because they were the main ones you follow. First Zachary Levi was a perfect choice to play Shazam because he had fun with this role. He played it as if it was a real-life teenager who just got superpowers and doesn’t know what to do with them. He had great chemistry with Jack Dylan Grazer and they could easily bounce stuff off of each other easily. They both were hilarious too. Jack Dylan Grazer is going to have a promising career when he gets older. Talking about being funny, the movie all around is a hilarious ride. Whether it is poking fun at a superhero cliché or just a funny line the movie knew when to be funny and when to tone it down and be serious again. My only real problem with the film is the Villain Thaddeus Sivana, played by Mark Strong. Now, don’t get me wrong they do give him a decent reason for doing what he’s doing and he’s played well by Mark Strong it’s just he seems weak compared to everybody else in this film. In the end, this film is great other than the villain and is worth checking out. I give Shazam a 9.5/10.… Expand

Shazam! is without a doubt one of the closest things you can get to a perfect comic book adaptation. Having read a bunch of Captain Marvel stories, it was exciting seeing how much stuff they managed to seamlessly fit into the film. The mostlyShazam! is without a doubt one of the closest things you can get to a perfect comic book adaptation. Having read a bunch of Captain Marvel stories, it was exciting seeing how much stuff they managed to seamlessly fit into the film. The mostly lighthearted tone of the film was great, and they managed to land a fair amount of good jokes, so it was very enjoyable to watch. Though it had just over a two hour runtime, the pacing and entertainment I got out of it made it feel like barely an hour and a half had gone by.

In my eyes, it was both enjoyable as a faithful adaptation of a DC property as well as a film, which is a welcome change given some of the past entries in Warner Brother's expanded universe attempt. I really feel like Warner Brother's is starting to get it right now.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The writing and screenplay were hilarious and it is the funniest superhero movie since Thor: Ragnarok but not as funny. The acting from the whole cast was stupendous especially Zachary Levi, Jack Dylan Grazer, Asher Angel, Faithe Herman, Mark Strong, Cooper Andrews, Grace Fulton, and Meagan Good. The visual effects were terrific and really cool especially The Seven Deadly Sins and Shazam's powers. David F. Sandberg's direction was great. The costumes and outfits were fantastic especially Zachary Levi's SHAZAM costume. The hair and makeup was really good. The soundtrack and the music featured throughout the movie was great. Also I really loved the mid-credits scene where they introduced Mister Mind and the after the credits scene was hilarious. SHAZAM was a lot of fun to watch and it was extremely funny. SHAZAM is one of my favorite movies of 2019, my 2nd favorite DC movie of all time, and one of my favorite superhero movies of all time. SHAZAM is for sure a A+ movie for me.… Expand

Fun, refreshingly original, and super entertaining, Shazam is a breakthrough for the DCEU and comic book films like it in general. It can get caught up in familiar tropes from other leading superhero films, but it manages to break out of them by pushing the boundaries and simply giving the audience what they want - a great time at the movies. Its story is good, and its acting is even better. Zachary Levi plays the part of Shazam brilliantly, and like Tom Hanks in Big, shows a great amount of honesty and humor of being Billy - a kid stuck in an adult body. Jack Dylan Grazer gives another great performance as Billy's 'manager' and new foster brother Freddie. Mark Strong proves to be a strong enough villain for the film, or at least the most thought out villain of the DCEU at this time, and proves to be a worthy foe in this type of film. Shazam is also heartfelt and provides kids watching with a good message by the end. By far, the film is something DC should be proud of, and hopefully something we will see more of in the future.… Expand

I don't understand why people gave bad remarks on this movie. It is definitely very good humor and family movie. Compare to Deadpool, which is not for kids at all, this is the movie choice where you can enjoy it with your children.

Shazam! was on fire from start to finish. I love the action scenes in the movie, the heartwarming moments was great, and the humor in the movie was dope I was laughing my butt off until the credits. This is the best Super Hero movie to date. I loved the surprising back seat that Shazam took to focus on the family and the villain. The dynamics of the foster family was incredible, and hit home for me and the rest of the audience. TheseThis is the best Super Hero movie to date. These characters are grounded in reality and provide an accurate representation of a family. The villain's family dynamics were also fantastic, leading a a massively underrated and scary villain with opposing family dynamics to Billy Batson. It was incredible to see these characters demonstrate morals and feeling based on their situation. It is the most real family representation in a movie to date.

Beyond this, the super hero dynamics and action was also incredible, with fun and fantastic fight scenes and great motives. This makes Shazam stand out in a crowd of monotonous super hero films in our generation.

Shazam is funny, too. The jokes landed and never felt forced. The jokes were derived from the characters and how they would converse and react. These characters felt so real, and the jokes felt like they came from the characters rather than a focus on jokes first.

Shazam's writing is impeccable. It creates such a beautiful world with characters that feel real and situations that fit the characters. The characters and scenes had beautiful continuity, making everything feel real despite the movies focus on magic wizards.… Expand

Asher Angel is the perfect Billy Batson. Shazam rightly pulls back on the grandeur and delivers a fresh, sharp, and down-right wonderful piece of popcorn cinema. Fresh, fun and magical. What might have been an average movie with the wrong lead turns out to be an excellent vehicle for Angel's budding talent and Strong's experienced charm. Not only is it a fun ride as a superhero romp, but the bubbly pace will also warrant multiple viewings. This is finally a fresh take on a classic hero. Went and saw this movie with my family during the fandango early premiere. It was fun for the whole family. I'm gonna be honest. Before this movie was announced I didn't even know who Shazam was. I had only seen him as one of those "random dudes I don't care about" heroes in the character selection screen of Injustice: Gods Among Us. So you canI'm gonna be honest. Before this movie was announced I didn't even know who Shazam was. I had only seen him as one of those "random dudes I don't care about" heroes in the character selection screen of Injustice: Gods Among Us. So you can assume that I was watching this movie as a blank slate. One of my friends was very excited about this movie. He told me that the critics had seen this movie a month earlier and give it good ratings. I was guessing it must be a children's movie, and that is what it was advertised as.

But when I saw it my mind was blown. I wouldn't exactly call it a children's movie, or even a family movie for that matter. I would put it in the same category as a Pixar movie, something which children and adults will see differently. Just as you start thinking this movie is for children, it throws one such event that the thought gets blown away from your mind, just like Dr Sivana's secretary when she touched the portal door (BA DM TSS).

The story, in spite of having a lot, still manages to go perfectly well with the runtime and not feel like a bloated mess. In just a little above 2 hours it showed Billy Batson's childhood, his character development, how he received his superpowers, how he learnt to use them, how he learnt to use them to help people and not to just fool around, his relation with his adopted family members, their character development, the villain's backstory, how the villain received his superpowers, how Billy and Sivana met the first time, how Billy understood the power of friendship and defeated the bad guy, how his life became afterwards and two post credit sequel announcements.

The CGI was also really good. In fact it was the selling point for me. I often watched Billy jumping from the rooftop and shouting Shazam over and over again because of how fun it was to watch. The seven deady sins also look very scary, just enough to scare children. Seeing Shazam fly and fight with indestructible enemies was like the experience of watching Man of Steel once again, except this time it was much funnier. I still don't understand how is this a low budget movie. It looks far more superior than half the DCEU and MCU movies in terms of budget (for reference, it's between $80-100 million. That's less than Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad and even Birds of Prey if it's on the lower end).

Shazam is the movie I would see with my whole family and enjoy every time I see it. It is so simple yet so complex, it is family friendly yet mature, it is serious yet so funny. If it had been my way this and Captain Marvel's box office collections would have been exchanged. It is perfect in every sense, with not a single scene of boredom.… Expand

These days, if a comic book movie is not either super serious and well-acted (see: The Dark Knight), or VERY funny (see: Deadpool or the first Iron Man), I'm typically bored to death by them (see: Avengers, Civil War, etc, etc.). Shazam is just a hell of a lot of fun. It's funny, it's quick, and the actors are all incredibly sympathetic. The concept is simple but entirely effective. My sneak preview screening was met by roars of approval, big laughs, and applause at the end. If you're going to see it, by all means, stay for the credit sequence (with a bad-ass Ramones song underlying it). Clearly, the makers of this movie are comic book lovers.… Expand

Move over Wonder Woman, the DCEU has a new saviour and oddly enough it's a 14 year old. Back in 2010 Kick-Ass answered the question of what would happen if a regular dude tried to be a superhero. Back in 2010 Kick-Ass answered the question of what would happen if a regular dude tried to be a superhero. This movie shows us how things would turn out if superpowers were given to a kid. What do they have in common? Mark Strong.

This is easily the most family-friendly superhero flick across any of the cinematic universes. You get a heartwarming tale about a young boy finding a family with the action and humor on average being more wholesome than the typical film of this ilk. It follows the Marvel formula by making comedy a big part of the experience, but I'd argue it does so in a more natural manner than the MCU. It rarely feels like it's forcing the jokes into each scene. Rather the laughters occurs naturally thanks to David Sandberg portraying the kids as just being kids, albeit in a highly unique situation.

I really like how this serves solely as an introduction to the character(s) as it allows the film to stay very tight and focused on the story at hand without getting too bogged down in years of history from the comics. That being said I am left excited by the brief glimpses we were given into all the potential expansion this hero can bring to the DCEU and look forward to seeing his lore explored in sequels. I absolutely love the cast. Zachary Levi is great at capturing that boy trapped in a man's body energy, Jack Dylan Grazer is a gem, Faithe Herman might be the cutest kid alive right now, and Strong makes for a memorable antagonist. His Dr. Sivana might not be any more fleshed out than any other supervillain to grace the bigscreen over the past few years, but he certainly is menacing. Personally, I think he rivals Thanos in terms of fear factor. Shazam! in now way breaks from the superhero movie mold. If anything it's the DC movie that most closely follows the formula established by Marvel's success. Yet, the fact that this character is a fresh face that brings his own unique and exciting possibilities is enough for it to overcome that. It also doesn't hurt that it's so warmhearted and high-spirited.

Shazam is proof that the DCEU has finally found its groove and can now start giving us the quality movies we deserve. At times you'll be in awe, at times you'll be in suspense, and at times you'll just laugh. Overall, I'd highly recommend this movie.

Shazam was an all around fun movie. There was jokes, there was wizards, there was demons, but most importantly there was character development. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and felt it had very good pacing throughout.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First, let’s clarify something here for the younger generation... Shazam existed well before the power rangers and the Marvel family goes back as far as the 1940s, so any copying was on the part of the power rangers. Now on to the review!

This was kind of like Big, if the boy in Big wished he were a super hero. It is genuinely a very entertaining movie for the whole family and it plays out well enough that I would like to see another one.

If you’ve read any of the reviews, you know that Billy Batson is an orphan that is chosen to wield the powers of Shazam, while his nemesis is chosen to be the champion of the 7 deadly sins (a host for demons). Although Billy has some growing pains as he learns to deal with the powers that he’s recently been granted and his lack of maturity doesn’t help. The movie plays out in a predictable way, that is actually comforting, because you would expect nothing less than a bit of immature antics from a teenage boy that’s suddenly thrust into an adult super heroes body.

Overall, it wasn’t too long and it had some surprises that had people in the audience screaming excitedly. If you haven’t seen the movie, I highly recommend going and taking the family if you have one... Just ignore the 0 and 2 star reviews, because it’s clear they haven’t actually watched the movie.… Expand

Eu saí da sala do cinema gritando por dentro a palavra mágica, o filme transmite toda a vibe infanto juvenil dos quadrinhos e sabe explorar muito bem as redes sociais, não enrola, o roteiro é bem executado e o elenco eu não preciso dizer nada né? Melhor elenco que a DC podia escalar e Darla extremamente aclamada por todos da sessão. O que me incomodou um pouco é o roteiro, saí com uma sensação de que faltava algo, entendo super bem a questão do cgi e a história não exige grande ação, porém, como fã eu queria que explorassem mais a mitologia do personagem, mesmo assim foi super didático e deu pro grande público entender tudo de uma boa, o que eu senti falto foi do Mister Tawky Tawny (o tigre que é uma espécie de secretário do mago), quando o Billy sai da caverna da pedra e um cara aparece pra ele elogiando a roupa, eu achei que fosse ele, mas deve ser, ele deve aparecer mais na continuação. Dr Silvana poderia ter sido melhor adaptado, mas entendo perfeitamente essa versão do filme, queria ter visto mais coisas do cientista louco e tal. No mais o filme é cativante, fala pra todos os públicos e funciona super bem pro universo DC, um filme que respeita a era de ouro dos quadrinhos. A DC ta se encontrando de novo e eu espero que os próximos filmes, a fórmula dela seja de respeitar a personalidade de cada personagem e os temas que eles abordam, de forma coesa.… Expand

Shazam! is a great superhero film that brings a golden age sense of humour and a dark and interesting plot line together. Zachary Levi (Shazam) is great for his role as a kid trapped in a adults body, I did feel as if Zachary Levi was not the best portrayal of how Billy Batson would act if he was a superhero, but that is a small point. Jack Dylan Grazer is one of the best actors in the film, he portrays a nerdy “sidekick” to Shazam but not without its ups and downs. The villain is played by Mark Strong, I thought he was a terrifyingly cool and serious addition to Shazam!. The monsters that Mark Strong (Sivanna) control are a low point to the film, the VFX made them look fake and lifeless ( I get they might have been trying to portray this but i didn’t think it worked.) It’s hard to find a superhero film that is a perfect blend of funny, serious, dark, exciting and entertaining and this definitely meets those standards!… Expand

Honestly cannot remember the last time I smiled so much watching a DC movie. This film combines the fun of "Aquaman" with the heart of "Wonder Woman". truely exceeded my expectation. the trailer looked fun, but i was blown away with how great this film is. obviously made by people who really got into and love the source material, and loveingly bring it to life on screen. Shazam! is a great superhero film, with good action and humor. but when you look under the surface, it only gets better, with a ton of subtext and depth to the story that really makes the world come to life. Billy's story is fun, and relatable, a great adaptation to the modern day while at the same time staying true to it's classic roots. must see.… Expand

Formerly known by his original name, Captain Marvel before he was officially renamed in 2011, Shazam is making his return to the big screen since 1941 in his solo movie as the seventh instalment in DC Extended Universe after many years of development hell that originated since the 2000s.

Billy Batson (Angel) is a fourteen years old teenager and an orphan who has ran away from many orphanages in six counties to search for his biological mother until he was arrested by the police. He is later place under the care of Victor and Rosa Vazquez, whom they also took in five other foster children in their house.

One of the foster children, Freddy Freeman, befriends Billy and shares his love for superheroes with him. At Sivana Industries, Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong) found a way to return to the Rock of Eternity where he first met Shazam the Wizard when he was a child. Feeling angry that he was rejected by the wizard in the past, he steals the Eye of Sin and takes control of The Seven Deadly Sins.

At school, Billy beats up the bullies to save Freddy. When he manages to escape from them by boarding the train in the subway, he is transported to the Rock of Eternity where he meets the wizard. He chooses Billy to be his champion by telling him to say his name so that he can pass on his power to him. Billy calls out his name and he transform into an adult superhero called Shazam (Levi). After the wizard died, Billy seeks Freddy’s help to explore his newfound powers. All is fun and games for both of them until Billy comes face-to-face with Dr. Sivana, who wants his power.

Looks like DC hits another home run for this franchise. This movie is quite awesome next to Wonder Woman and Aquaman. It is also one of the best movies in this franchise and much better than Marvel’s Captain Marvel. I am very impressed with David F. Sandberg’s direction for this movie. Although he had two horror movies in his résumé, he manages to pull off a light-hearted and very fun superhero film. I had doubts at first but he proved me wrong.

The plot of the movie is nothing too cliché and it is full of comedy which I really enjoyed and laughed so many times. Zachary Levi, Asher Angel and Jack Dylan Grazer gave their best performances and they are one of the best parts of the movie. Mark Strong also gave his best performance as a supervillain since 2011’s Green Lantern which he portrayed Sinestro. I can say that his role in this movie earned himself redemption from that critically flop movie.

What makes the movie even more fun besides comedy is it has many Easter Eggs and references to the past instalments including a special cameo which I will not spoil it here. You can certainly enjoy spotting them while watching. The central theme of the movie, family, is very well executed and it is very relatable and connected to many people especially to those who are or were orphans in their life. For a low budget superhero movie, the CGIs were very impressively made and not looking too fake.

Let’s hope that DC and Warner Bros. keep up with the momentum and continue with this trend for all upcoming instalments. I will continue to look forward for the next instalments in this franchise. Before you leave the cinema, there is a mid-credits scene and a post credits scene you would not want to miss them.… Expand

Shazam! Is the most amusing DC comic movie so far that brings fun moment to audiences and it's a promising and almost perfect low budget DC movie. The characters are well introduced especially Shazam's and supervillain's origin story.Shazam! A nice change from the typical Superhero movie!! Had a nice mix of action and comedy, Zachary had a really great performance and made the movie shine.
