Prepare yourself for an up-close-and-personal wallow in the most brutally repugnant murders imaginable. Sadists, masochists and necromancers should love it. For me it was about as enjoyable as a dive into a sewer.

The villain's "God made me do it" excuse is about as compelling as "the dog ate my homework", and the reason for his final victim choice is about as convincing as UFOs in an Ed Wood film; he would have remained a lot more menacing had they never shown his face. Still, the film is great up to that point. Expand

A good one

The 1st shock is a result of brilliant acting and casting, and the 2nd, as good a plot twist as you'll find. The damp and dark, dungeony atmosphere of the movie doesn't add to the entertainment value (tho probably still the right decision), and I could have done with less rain, but the story itself is inspired, creative, and quite captivating from a biblical perspective. Brad Pitt actually stood out to me more than Morgan Freeman, but both were very easy to root for. The cat/mouse intellectual warfare and puzzle solving make you wish the movie would keep going the whole time. Make sure you walk out and enjoy the sun right after watching this! Expand

Somersets knife was a great example of that ,it represents assets of prejudice and anger to an extent. The elements of foreshadowing and suprise were terrific. The ending all though not a happy one was still great as it allowed one to see the ending of that so stop Ian world which they live in. Expand

There are several things I don't like about this movie. The acting is bad, Do you want to talk about the scene with Brad Pitt walking back and forth holding the gun and crying?
That scene was so bad that when I saw it I could hardly believe it. As well as the one where the guy enters the barracks all covered in blood. It can't work that way, if you show up like that, you get stopped by the police before getting inside. Fincher's direction is talented but the film does not blossom, it is simply not credible, with a truly hateful ending.

the first 45 or so minuets of this movie feels the need to have dramatic/tense music playing..
the whole time..even for everything. The acting was pretty good, but the story was very weak.
the two detectives 'work' a case, and by work I mean go to some crime scenes, they only actually get any progress when they use a deus ex machina system to find out who the killer is. all his crimes are themed. and when they finally meet up with him, there is a pretty good discussion about what he's doing and why. and he says he has a big surprise that will 'change everything'. I'm not going to spoil what that is. but it just turns out to be a very generic 'chasing the killer' movie style ending.
before this event, one of the detective even says "you're noting important. you're just a weekend move, no one will remember you after a week" and that's exactly how the ending of this film is. Forgettable, unoriginal, and it dose not really connect with the progression with the rest of the movie.
