The first one perfectly showed a character who does everything to correct his mistakes and will go to any lengths to do it, and the second one, in the person of Rosario Dawson, perfectly showed a person whose life hangs in the balance, but the optimism from this life does not fade away. But unfortunately the film is spoiled by excessive mystery, due to which the whole picture begins to take shape only towards the end of the film.… Expand

I wanted to like this movie. But the convoluted plot that was somehow dumbfounding and predictable drove me away. Will Smith did a fine job acting but that's about it. This is one of the worst movies I have ever watched. It is pure trash. The plot is incredibly unbelievable and dumb. Seven Pounds

Seven Pounds is a character driven drama about a guy aspiring to help seven strangers, finds himself stuck in his past. Such premise that divides itself into various acts often falls apart vigorously and if taken care with such mannerism, it almost questions its existence as it fails to stand on its self-created weak surface. This is a typical style over substance case, and unfortunately its style is to take things slowly and reminiscence in its pathos ideology with an artsy camera work to make it look more valuable. The last thing that this feature needed is the first and the foremost things that shucks away its credibility and it is the flawed script that makes less and less sense as it ages, since it skips few steps while mending the sequences. The background score is decently scored, the cinematography is daft, the editing is amatuer and the camera work is redundantly busy and handled manually in order to give the personal touch to the viewers. Smith is the only reason to survive this blunder, his looks are impactful and his eyes convey poems but even a performance like such could never save this sinking ship. This ill formed structure is equally to be blamed as the premise where the heart may be at the right place but that is never enough to attain a closure out of all these hokum formulas. The narration by Nieporte is unappealing and incongruent to its tone, to a point that even Muccino's execution couldn't save this forsaken and untouched land that this tale resides on. It overcooks its potential substance and overrides the emotions until it grows numb, its fabrication is pointless and inessential to the gist itself.

Seven Pounds costs more than that it accounts for, to the makers, actors and the viewers.… Expand

One of them wrote "----By the way, the whole box jellyfish thing was stupid. It was put in the film because he thought they were beautiful as a child. Not the best of references. Why not use a shotgun or jump of a cliff? His house was near the sea! Why not take a plunge instead of using the most ridiculous means of suicide in movie history?" I wonder how he's organs can be donated if he did any of these things?! This guy obviously did not watch the film or missed its message altogether! The fact that Mr Thomas used box- jellyfish as mean of committing suicide only proves how well the plot was thought through - from a point of view of medical knowledge and the effects of the venom. It would delight a medical mind with sufficient knowledge in the matter ....but here is another "review" : " Its message is so unrealistic in the end and doesn't have good medical knowledge which you can tell they pulled out of their butts."
I'm afraid I can't take these so called reviewers seriously ...same for some of the professionals / critics / too.
Well done to Will Smith! Never fails to deliver! Good film.… Expand

It begins at the end, ends at the end, and the middle is just everything they left out in between. An absolutely horrible screenplay, the acting doesn't save it, and it's really a wretchedly boring film.

I cried myself to sleep after watching this film, A real masterpiece. This is definately one of Will Smith's better films, Possibly even his best. Definately up there with the likes of I-Robot anyway.

The 4 that I gave was for Will Smith's acting and an almost convincing death scene. ----By the way, the whole box jellyfish thing was stupid. Not to mention the fact that the scenario is a total mess in terms of timing. Begins somewhere in the middle of nowhere, no links with the incidents that's happening in the movie, to end up with the most ridiculous end I have ever seen! I guess Sony wanted a 'Pursuit of Happiness no2' and despite the fact that acting is amazing, nevertheless the structure of the scenario destroys everything positive in the movie.… Expand

Can't figure out why this got so panned - it was slow, but hey, it's a drama. I found myself very attached to the characters, Will Smith always knocks it out of the park. Very much enjoyed the movie. I was so surprised to see such low metacritic reviews. I thought it was an incredibly sincere deep movie. Smith portrayed well the depth of self - hatred man can fall to. It was a very emotional movie, and gave a unique look into a different kind of story. I loved this movie. It was a little slow in parts but otherwise I felt it was very good. Different than any other movie I have seen. Way way way too long, some major editing would have prevented the stretches of boredom. Too slow moving. It's very sincere, but it also fails to convince. The acting is stiff and lacking enthusiasm. Good score.

I don't get the most acclaimed critics... I am very cinical when it comes to movies and I hate bla bla love bla bla romance. BUT... this is not about it. Maybe that's why there are these terrible reviews - in a world full of copied.past scripts and never-ending possibilities with new technology, thus creating virtual (alternative) realities, I think people are losing the real sense of A movie. I can relate so much about it... It is NOT a film without grip of reality - I LIVE a reality very near to this one and it really blew my mind. Of course the movie is "elongated". You have to feel it - unlike other common movies about an alien adventure where you except frames to fly around like crazy. The critics MUST take a break from this technology-based imagery we're living in so that we can appreciate, again, the beauty of thinking and living - experiencing. One of my favorite movies ever - and I don't remember a single one I like with feelings of courage or redemption or whatever. The casting is great and Oh Boy Will Smith gives it all. WELL DONE… Expand

This is exactly why I believe someone should critique the critics. Not one of these movie reviews gave a credible basis on why they rated the movie so low. 1. The movie is too dark. I havent been able to stop thinking about parts of it since. Will Smith excelled as always, and Woody Harrellson is making a name for himself playing terrific bit parts, i get the feeling theres a big role for him around the corner. Its a very good idea and it was so sad. Im not too sure why its got so much bad press. Sure its "corny", it seems a lot of the press dont like that nowadays, but a lot of people still do. Id definitely recommend Seven Pounds to anyone.… Expand

Beautiful movie, I was taken by the entire plot and I had no idea where it was going. Bawled my eyes out at the end. How can anyone give this well acted mature story a bad rap. I loved it!!!

I went into this movie wanting it to be amazing, but unfortunately it was the complete opposite. Will Smith and Rosario Dawson gave wonderful performances, but the movie took way too long for anything to happen. I don't know how people who watched this movie can give it a bad rating. It is probably the best movie in recent years (have I ever seen a better one?). Yes, the story may seem far-fetched, but it is told in such an incredible manner, I don't know how people who watched this movie can give it a bad rating. It is probably the best movie in recent years (have I ever seen a better one?). Yes, the story may seem far-fetched, but it is told in such an incredible manner, that you won't know until the end. My girlfriend was crying a lot during the second half of the movie, and I was trying hard to keep my tears from flowing and comfort her. Will Smith and, especially Rosario Dawson, are just amazing to watch, but that's not the main point. I am no Will Smith fan, but after seeing this movie I have to admit he is a great actor. The main point is idea of this movie, that is only fully revealed in the end (if you're good at guessing movie plots, you might know around the middle, not earlier). Amazing, amazing, amazing! There is no reason for this movie to be rated so poorly. I think that the main reason for this is because of slowly everything plays out, and how little the viewer knows even half way through the film. What a great movie. The poor reviews this movie has been getting is a sham. A beautiful movie that has all the emotion and brilliance of any classic. I think the critics are dead wrong. If you go into the movie without knowing a thing about it, then it's a good movie. The end plot twist was obvious a half hour into the movie, and what was supposed to be an act of heroism was so sadly Predictable, long-winded, and ultimately silly.
