For the first time, in a long time, you will be subjected to material that will not be able to predict. No more Hollywood cookie cutter plots and drama. Whedon is a master. Give us back the series!

It knows how to jerk the heartstrings in one moment and cause a laugh in the next. The characters are so easy to relate to and a person really become attached to them. They're REAL people instead of characters from a story. Joss Whedon is an genius when it comes to things like that and I am anticipating the next 2 in the trilogy. I can't wait to see them though I'm not sure I can make it through them since the Serenity itself made me cry. I would and am recommending to everyone to go see this movie and watch the 14 episodes of the tv series. Expand

I'm a big fan of Firefly, so it's a little hard for me to see Serenity as a movie by itself. I do think that Serenity does a masterful job of both continuing the series and standing on its own as an accessible sci-fi feature. I'm a big fan of Firefly, so it's a little hard for me to see Serenity as a movie by itself. I do think that Serenity does a masterful job of both continuing the series and standing on its own as an accessible sci-fi feature. Whedon's writing is, as always, witty on banter and remarkably graceful on plot. It's amazing how much of Firefly's backstory he manages to squeeze into the dialogue without sounding redundant to the show's fans. Thsi makes for an entertaining, character driven story spiced up with some heated action sequences. On a scale of 1 to 10, it's a Yay. Expand

Very entertaining movie, even more so if you've already seen "Firefly." If you were a fan of Star Wars as a kid and now consider yourself an adult with a soft spot for sci-fi, this is the movie for you. I can't give it a 10 because Very entertaining movie, even more so if you've already seen "Firefly." If you were a fan of Star Wars as a kid and now consider yourself an adult with a soft spot for sci-fi, this is the movie for you. I can't give it a 10 because one of the characters from the TV series gets short shrift, and the editing is a bit rough in places. Other than that, worth multiple viewings, here's hoping there are sequels. Expand

I went into this movie ignorant of the Firefly series and left a true convert. Anyone who enjoys a thrilling action flick with vividly realized characters and a compelling plot will have nothing to complain about. BTW, shame on Zach D for his inaccurate comments! Whedon's script for Alien Resurrection never made it to the screen; his excellent work on Toy Story, among others, did survive in tact and are a testimony to his fine screenwriting. While this may be his directorical debut for the big screen, Whedon has contributed to plenty of great scripts over the years. Get your facts stright, Zach! Expand

From that point on, there are solid special effects, and interesting storyline on a fairly grand scale, and some of the best fight choreography I've ever had the pleasure to watch, but the true highlights of the movie are the comparatively scenes allowing the relationships between the characters to truly play out. Watching adversaries who resepect each other come to realize that their conversation will end in violence, or a brother and sister who really truly care for each other, you realize that basic human interaction is what drives this film. And in the final act, that is where the film takes it's boldest steps...not as sci-fi, but as a solid, character driven drama. Expand

Go out and see the best sci-fi film of the year without delay. Most sci-fi and action movies, I watch them and think if only they'd spent a fraction of the special effects budget on the script, the film would have been a lot more entertaining. Serenity is quite the opposite, money hasn't been wasted on big stupid effects (although the film is visually pleasing anyway) and the script is tight, full of Joss Whedon's patented one-liners, and occasionally graced with something verging on philosophy and situational humour. Plus, the characters are genuinely three dimensional, and how often do you really get that? This is Joss Whedon's debut as feature film director - and it's only going to get better. Way good. Way too awesome to put it to words! Go see this! Hopefully Angel (another Wedon show) will get it's own spin off movie.

Perhaps an accomplished director (this is Whedon's theatrical debut) might've brought more spark to the film and quite possibly could've seen better through the plot-holes (Whedon also wrote the script, which comes in a few notches better than his ALIEN: RESURRECTION draft), but the film is based on a 'little engine that could' TV show that refuses to accept 'it couldn't.' The film delivers more than a handful of solid laughs, but only fans of the short-lived TV outing will fully comprehend what's going on here. Expand

My friend, a self confessed "Browncoat" dragged me along to one of the pre-screenings in Nottingham. I had no real hopes and was kinda expecting some cheesey sci-fi geek fest, but was pleasantly surprised. The characters were all unique and engaging with their own personal flaws that made them human, the action and adventure was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed how dark it got. I love nothing more than a film with a lot of heart and a lot of self discovery, mixed in with action, horror, some hilarious one liners and a great cast who clearly loved playing each and every role during their short run during the TV show. The graphics looked really great considering the small budget. I wasn't a fan of the show before, but after seeing Serenity I borrowed the DVD set off my friend to see what I had been missing, and boy, what a tremendous show it was. I highly recommend Serenity - a great time is guarenteed. Expand

It was rubbish and Josh Weedon sucks! Ha, I joke you. It was great. Add a '1' to the '0' - or, better, read Tom C's review, it's fair minded and accurate.

I've tried to be honest and fair about this. If you are not a fan of the TV show then this film will not deliver with quite the strength and power that it would if you have watched the TV show. It remains a much better than average I've tried to be honest and fair about this. If you are not a fan of the TV show then this film will not deliver with quite the strength and power that it would if you have watched the TV show. It remains a much better than average sci-fi adventure, fun and moving, with a good swashbuckling thing going on too. I honestly think that most people would adore it, and I think it could ignite the kind of enthusiasm that the original Star Wars did if the right audience got hold of it. But I can't say that it would definitely happen. So for people who have not seen the show, I'm saying eight out of ten. If you have seen the show, and enjoyed it at all, then this will blow your head clean off. Ten out of ten - there are flaws here, but they are so over-matched by some heart-in-mouth moments and speeches, jokes and traumas that you cannot, and will not be disappointed. In a nutshell: everyone should be satisfied by this film, and some will quite quickly fall in love. I don't go and see a lot of films twice, but this will be one of them. Expand

Whedon knows dialogue. Serenity is a fast-paced, rollickin' good yarn that you should go see if only to stick it to Fox for submarining the TV series (Firefly) before it ever had a chance (or pick your own reason). You will enjoy this movie.

Finally a sci-fi movie that believes in story line and character development rather than throwing CGI at the viewer for two hours. Funny and morally relevant, Whedon's masterful dialogue and unpredictable action makes this movie a must-see!

Breathtaking adventure far supperior to it's pedigree of "based on the TV show Firefly." See this movie for a great movie in it's own right. This is NOT your everyday tv show movie.
