Serenity, although overlooked by audiences, was one of the strongest movies of 2005. The ensemble cast is terrific, the writing is tight and witty, and despite its rather modest budget (for this type of movie in this day and age) the Serenity, although overlooked by audiences, was one of the strongest movies of 2005. The ensemble cast is terrific, the writing is tight and witty, and despite its rather modest budget (for this type of movie in this day and age) the cinematography and special effects are seamless. Although the series has grown on me since its original airing, I felt the movie was much stronger and more cohesive than the TV series. In short, this film exceeded my expectations by a great deal--I was genuinely moved by what Whedon and Co. were able to accomplish. Highly recommended.… Expand

I had never even heard of the T.V. series, Firefly, when a friend turned me on to SERENITY. I loved the movie the first time I saw it. Original, funny and daring with wonderful acting. After my 5th viewing, I went out and purchased the I had never even heard of the T.V. series, Firefly, when a friend turned me on to SERENITY. I loved the movie the first time I saw it. Serenity is the perfect blend of sci-fi, action, comedy, western and drama. As a fan of Firefly, I am happy to see that Joss Wheadon was able to stay true to the original show, without alienating newcomers. I do not know who was really the main character, if it was River, I did not like. And if the main character was the captain, I would not upset. Anyway the bad guy was the best of the movie. I went into this movie ignorant of the Firefly series and left a true convert. Anyone who enjoys a thrilling action flick with vividly realized characters and a compelling plot will have nothing to complain about. BTW, shame on Zach D for his inaccurate comments! Whedon's script for Alien Resurrection never made it to the screen; his excellent work on Toy Story, among others, did survive in tact and are a testimony to his fine screenwriting. While this may be his directorical debut for the big screen, Whedon has contributed to plenty of great scripts over the years. Get your facts stright, Zach!… Expand

Wow. What a great ending to a great TV series. I always thought the Firefly TV show was cancelled prematurely. But I was so excited when it was made into a movie. Let me start by saying I was not a Firefly fan before seeing this movie. My friend, a self confessed "Browncoat" dragged me along to one of the pre-screenings in Nottingham. My friend, a self confessed "Browncoat" dragged me along to one of the pre-screenings in Nottingham. I had no real hopes and was kinda expecting some cheesey sci-fi geek fest, but was pleasantly surprised. The characters were all unique and engaging with their own personal flaws that made them human, the action and adventure was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed how dark it got. I love nothing more than a film with a lot of heart and a lot of self discovery, mixed in with action, horror, some hilarious one liners and a great cast who clearly loved playing each and every role during their short run during the TV show. The graphics looked really great considering the small budget. I wasn't a fan of the show before, but after seeing Serenity I borrowed the DVD set off my friend to see what I had been missing, and boy, what a tremendous show it was. I highly recommend Serenity - a great time is guarenteed.… Expand

Everybody seems to be comparing it to Star Wars (particularly The Empire Strikes Back), but the beauty of the film is that it owes just as much to The Searchers and Indiana Jones. I was pleasantly supprised at just how good a movie this was. Big fan of JW's other shows, but never saw this series. I had certain expectations, but never thought I'd be blown away! The show is awesome, I'll recommend it to everyone I know. As a huge Firefly fan it's hard to see this as anything other than the greatest Sc-Fi movie of all time, but from anyones point of view this is a really really incredible film. The main strength lies in the characters, its a rare movie case where they aren't just characters, they transform into real people that you can actually care about, at times painfully so. Comedy plays a massive part in the film but its still the dark side that shines through giving an extremely powerful movie experience. Even the action sequences, despite the low budget, are excellent and put many huge-money blockbusters to shame. Go see it as soon as possible, as not to miss out on one of the most amazing movies to date.… Expand

Wow. Surprisingly good. I caught some of the episodes of the original show and thought it was pretty cool (though I could never remember when the show was on). I thought I'd give the movie a chance and I'm glad I did. The writing Wow. Surprisingly good. The writing is excellent--really funny and an all around great sci-fi movie with wonderful real world issues all through-out. Loved this movie. Great story and great dialogue. It is nice to see a sci-fi movie where you are not constantly assaulted by CGI. Whoever cancelled this show should be ashamed. Ok I just got back in from watching Serenity and all I can say is WOW! Great movie, good plot, action, acting and overall coherence of the story. I haven't seen even one episode of TV series but this was amazing. Everything was Ok I just got back in from watching Serenity and all I can say is WOW! Serenity is hard-hitting, witty, and completely delightful. The characters are full of vigor, and the visuals are a dream. Yes, seeing the television show, Firefly, is an enormous boost - but the movie stands on it's own fabulously!
